Protectorates into Provinces?

The Island of Rose

Rose International New Network:

A controversial bill entered Parliament today. This bill will turn Nueva Rose, New Roska, New Rosktai, New Red, and Prospero 4 into Provinces of The Island of Rose. Of course, these lands are Protectorates. Supporters of the bill which includes members of the Militant Communists, say it will lead into a united Island, in which the Island may be more safe. In a surprising move, the Red Party and the Corporate Party are fighting fervishly to stop the bill from being passed. And even more surprisingly the Fascist Party is helping the Militant Communists to pass the bill."

A video of people holding flags that represent freedom is shown. They are in front of the Parliamentary Building and police are protecting the Senators.

Protests have already erupted all over the Protectorates and in the City of Rose itself. We have a statement from President Sergei Ilyanov.

Official Statement from President Sergei Ilyanov:

I will veto the bill as soon as it passes. The protectorates should run themselves. They should not be subject to the City of Rose. I tell my comrades to vote against this. If you do vote for it, well, I'm going to veto it anyway, so there.
-President Sergei Ilyanov of The Island of Rose

More as it develops.

We believe it would be right to institute your protectorates as provinces, as the people of you protectorates would be gaurnteed the same economic advantages as a province of Rose. However, if the people want to remain autonomous, they must be given that right.

To The Island of Rose:

You're going to have one hell of a bloody civil war on hands if you go through with this, I tell you that. Keep the Protectorates Independent.

Official Statement of President Sergei Ilyanov:

The people wish to remain autonomus, they will. Unfortunately, our Legislative doesn't allow referendum and it takes a 75% vote to change rewrite the constitution. Which is impossible. Hm.

OOC: Yes, but the Protectorates are all over the place, more likely they'd become independent nations...

OOC: but it still would be like ancient japan, especially from the time era that the nove Shogun took place, each warlord was fighting his rivals for territories, gaining more and more until he had become a dictator

OOC: Eh. I'm doing this for fun anyway. There won't be a civil war for years. Unlike other nations, I hate war ;)

I say no. Any reduction in autonomy would disastrous to any area, as ultimately no one wishes to lose any kind of control.

Rose International News Network:

By a close vote of 52.66% to 46.34%, the bill has failed to pass Parliament. Celebrations in the street erupted when Minister of Internal Affairs, Galaph Yultanov, announced the result. Analysts say that the passing of the bill would've caused a civil war, the second in the Island of Rose's history. President Sergei is elated, saying "I'm glad people have some common sense" at the press conference. Supporters of the bill are furious. A riot almost ensued near Parliament Hall, but police were luckily able to calm them down. Thank you, God bless.

((OOC: Hm, that's the end of that!))
