At approximately 1:33 p.m. local time, several bombs went off in the capital of the region of Andalucia. Marxist seperatists in the predominatley Spanish region have declared their indenpendence as a Marxist Republic, and have executed by hanging some 30 local government officials. The regional capital, Dominica, has fallen to the rebels, but the third largest city, Catalan, is held by government forces and local allies.
The leader of the rebels, Hipolito Jimeniz, has stated that the Marxist will fight to the death against the "apartheid system and capital injustice that exists within this so-called Republic." President Davis Granger has called the accusation of apartheid "laughable," and indeed Spanish-speakers enjoy the same rights and privileges as white citizens in New Goliad. Whether or not the allegations are true is of little importance however, as the rebels hold most of Andalucia and could cross into the Galicia region very soon.
As far as we are able to tell, there are three main factions to this war: the Republicans (i.e. government forces and their white supporters), Marxists (comprising some two-thirds of Andalucia's population and about half of the total Spanish population of New Goliad, identified by red banners and red armbands), and Tejanos (those Spanish that support the government; about a fifth of Andalucia's population, identified by blue banners and blue armbands).
New Goliad requests aid from any nation, and wishes it to be known that after this is over, any attempt to aid the rebels will be seen as an act of war on the Republic.
OOC: Please, if you are one of these huge nations with billions of people, don't send like 4,000,000 soldiers, whichever side you support. It takes the fun out of the RP process and turns it into a war of size rather than a war of strategy.
