Sketchy rumors within the Bonstocknian Air Force apparatus has led to this speech by Harald Gustavsson, President of the Federal Republic:

The Federal Republic of Bonstock Air Force has announced today the revealing of the new JAS-42 Norrsken fighter. Having been tested for many years under secrecy, it will now be put into production and deployed to all 240 Bonstocknian Tactical Fighter wings.

A photograph has been revealed to the public. Statistics were not avaliable, due to the secrecy surrounding this aircraft, but some sources claimed "if flies above 100,000 feet at above Mach 4, and has a long range."

Sources say "More information is on the way.

ooc: A more detailed post

ic:

Designed to be a direct counter to high-performance _Taiwanese and Sinoese aircraft, the Bonstocknian JAS-42 Norrsken (Northern Lights) was tested over many years at a secret Bonstocknian base. Its pulse scramjet engine propells it to speeds of over Mach 4, and to altitudes over 100,000 feet. Designed to suit all tactical needs of the Bonstocknian Military, it is now undergoing an introduction phase. Currently, two fighter wings, the 21st and the 15th, are fully equipped with the plane. There is also a carrier version now equipping the carrier Volvgrad. All are now being deployed to the East Asia theater of forces. There they will be proven and all the Bonstocknian fighter units will be equipped with them.

Interesting.

Is there any way i could buy an aircraft for antiaircraft testing?

Response from the Commission on the Export of Military Arms:

Absolutly not. These are for display only, for the time being. We'll wait-list you.

ooc: It's still semi-classified. For ooc, it goes Mach 4.5, and can climb to 120,000 feet, though both only in short bursts. It can carry 6 Air to air missiles, or 4 missiles and two 2000lb. JDAM bombs for strike missions. It's best as an interceptor or quick-reaction strike fighter; its not exactly durable enough for close air support or maneuverable enough for dogfights. We're working on something better for those, though we may be using A-10s for ground attack for many years to come.

OOC: The only glaring error I can see is the pulse detonation scramjet - it's not modern tech, but then again EI had a Mach 4 bomber in the last round of wars.

A-10s will get ripped by flak fire. The idea of ground hugging assault is something I'm uncomfortable with.

A-10s and Frogfoots and similar planes are made to take it.

If the guns don't do it the SAMs will.

The A-10 is designed to take 20mm rounds and survive. However, any hits directly on the fuselage by a SAM will destoy any plane.

No questions about that.

The Su-25 Frogfoot is also armored, but is designed to evade missiles and AA fire rather than absorb them.

OOC: In the last Japann Wars, he developed some fighter with Mach 5.0 max., we all flamed him for it. At Mach 3+ speeds, wouldn't the pilot's body be buried into the seat? Why does Bonsy have such fetish for Mach 3.0 fighters?

A direct hit from a SAM would not destroy the plane in one giant explosion, but would damage the plane to the point where the pilot would have to bail out. But that's big SA-2 type missile. If an A-10 is flying low over a target, first of all, a guy with a Stinger or SA-7 missile isn't going to have enough time to aim and fire. Even then, if he shoots off one of the engines, the A-10 can make it home on one. So the A-10 really can survive (given adequate support from air superiority aircraft). And that aside, it packs some powerful lead. That 30mm cannon turns T-90s into scrap metal! Never mind the bombs and missiles it carries.

No sh*t! That's why the Sinoese employ SAM/AAA blankets all the time on ground assault.
