Conquest - 962 AD

Kaufmanstad
01-10-2004, 03:12
This thread is based in Europe, North Africa, and the Near East in the year 962. This means no guns, and the most technologically advanced transportation are Viking Long Boats and Turkish Galleys. The Roman Empire ceased to exist 500 years ago. This is the age of Charlamange, of the Vikings, and of the Rise of Islam...

In 962, Kaufmanstad had existed for only 142 years. It had started as a loose confederation of cheiftains, but now, Kaufmanstad is a unified Kingdom under the leadership of King Erich the Bold, who had his capital at the growing town of Kaufmansburg. His Kingdom stretched over the delta region of the Rhine River.
Now that Kaufmanstad was united and under his firm leadership, Erich looked elsewhere to expand...

OOC: Kaufmanstad occupies RL Holland and Belgium.
Also, Kihameria has laid claim to Sicily, Tunisia, and most of Italy.

*A man stood on the northern shores of Tunisia, he wore and odd asortment of robes and trousers, he had a belt around his waist, on it were numerous weapons, mainly a short falchion and a schimitar, on his chest was an iron breastplate, with numerous stars chiseled into it. Behind him were two guards, each with a large battle axe. To his side was a man dressed in full robes and a turban, who had a weak look to him.*
"King sir, do you not appriciate youre land ? you fought, you united many roaming tribes and formed a single nation, and then, you sailed across the water, conquerd another island, are you not happy ? you are king..."*said the man. A camel walked slowly by behind them, it made a loud noise, and moved on.*
"I am not king, a ruler, a leader. I lead a lot of desert nomads and am ruler over deserts and....camels"*he said, camels he said with a distain for.*
"There are no camels, in the land of ruins..."*said the man.*
"The land of ruins... there is little sand there.... grass..... oh how i do long the touch of grass..."*said the leader.*
"S...Sir, our fleets are rotting away, and our soldiers are drinking and getting fat, we could... sail, cross the oceans and conquer those lands."*said the man, with a slight bit of fear in his already weak voice.*
"I have waited... and waited for this moment. But you have neglected to tell me my armies are bored and my fleets rotting... you have told me they are busy training... my ships trading..."*said the man with anger.*"Why do i still have you as my advisor ?"*he shouted.*
"B..b...because, sir... i am well trained in economic, and military studies, ... i have read books and..."*said the man, cowering.*
"And you are Ottavio's younger brother, I fought with him, he was like a brother to me, until he was killed. Now, you prove youreself and go, ready my fleets, prepare my army, we sail at sunset."*said the leader, who then began to walk off, his guards following him.*
*At sunset, fifteen galleys set sail out of Tunisia, their destination, Sicily. They arrived during the night, the ships went on and were to dock at the north east of the island, the leader, his two guards, and over a hundred other men, all armed, rode on Arabian stallions towards Sabbia (RL Agrigento) They stormed the palace that had been built, none of the guards stoped them, they marched in the the rulers bedroom. The bed wasnt empty, the sheets concealed a large bulge. The leader of Tunisia marched in, and grabbed the sheets and pulled them off.*
"No ! i am not ready to die !"*said the man who was under the covers, he sighed when he saw who it was.*
"Octavio, it is you... a man riding with full escort scares one... but"*said the man.*
"Renold, prepare youre fleet and men, we set sail at sunrise."*said the man as he walked out, he then went back to his men and rode to rendevous with the fleet. By sunrise, seventy five riders, and two hundred twenty-five intanry men were there, seventy five archers, one hundred and fifty footmen. Renold was at thier lead, he wore a breastplate with a single small star in the center. They rendevoud with the fleet, and boarded the ships. The ships set sail, they looked like galleys, with a fore and aft castles for offensive reasons, but a deep hull to hold men, supplies or both. As the sun rose the next day, they had landed in Calabria, they galleys sailed ashore, they unloaded the men, about four hundred men in all. They then got togather, loaded supplies on spare horses, or camels, and marches fowards. During the night, other galleys had been sent, the islands of Malta and Sardegna had been occupied. During the course of one, long night, two more islands and part of the main contenient had been occupied. The armies of the Tunisian/Sicilians werent ready yet, barely any of the fleets had been used, the conquest was just begining.*

OOC: I lay claim to the small islands of Denmark & Northern Germany

In 962, much of what the Atising Atisau tribes occupy a small fringe of islands off the coast of the land known as Atislon. Although they do not possess soveriegnty, they are employed as mercenaries to the Atisling King, whom is more concentrated with the Atislos, whom occupy the North.

IC:

King Erich sat with his warriors in the his Mead Hall, Herot in the rising town of Kaufmansburg.
Erich and his warriors feasted. "By Thor's hammer!" cried Erich as he slammed down his mead cup, "We have fought hard to unite Kaufmanstad! But I believe there is more glory to be had outside of our kingdom! Tomorrow, we prepare to venture out, to explore, and to conquer!" Erich threw back his mead and shouted "VALHALLA!"
Erich's warriors responded in kind. The revelry continued throughout the night and into the small hours of the morning.

*the men rode and walked on slowly, there was no resistance, they hadnt even found a town, a remote patrol... nothing. As they passed over a hill they saw a band of about five hundred light militia and archers, badly put togather, with little light cavalry, but they outnumberd the invaders. The invaders took positions, pikemen and pole infantry up front, axemen in the second line, then an assortment of me narmed with blades, all had animal hide or leather covered wooden shields. The archers were behind the Infantry. The cavalry was split in two, half on each flank. Octavio(the leader) lead the cavalry, while Renold(allied Sicilian) took the infantry. the battle would be short. The defenders took a square formation, archers in the middle and pole arms men on the sides. The defenders loosed a volley of arrows, they clankced and were mainly inneffective, suffering from bad aim and poor arms. The invaders pulled togather, with few losses, a man from each side with a torch moved through the archers ranks, not a minute later the sky filled with dark smoke and flaming arrows, they rained down upon the defenders, not with incredable accuracy, few defenders were hit, but the drying ground chaugt fire and the defenders, in their square began to panic and rush out of the flames, at this moment Octavio lead a cavalry charge from both wings, each one fanning out, in an attempt to surround the defenders. Renold lead his infantry fowards. The battle hadnt lasted thirty minutes and it was over. The invaders had an astounding victory, with few lossed, the defenders were crushed, the aftermath was however unlike desert people. The captives were made to look after the wounded from both sides, and then they were given the option to drop thier weapons and return home, or join. Many went home, but a few stayed behind, the bodies of the dead were buried, and then the force continued on. The survivors who joined them called them "Kihans", the name would stick. Though they spoke a differant language, the Italian defenders were able to converse with the Sicilians easily, but the Tunisians it was more difficult. Regardless, the forces continued on towards the main land. However, at the homeland of Tunisia, all was not boring. The troops were gathering and training, some being sent on galleys to Sicily and other newly acquired lands, however a large force was massing on the eastern borders of Tunisia, mainly cavalry or camel riders, but there were some infantrymen. These men would eventually, once a leader was found, march into Libya. The Sicilians were not idle either, the men made ships or weaponary, the "Kihans" had fewer people then other countries, but that was due to a lack of land, that would change.*

ooc: I lay claim to central and southern Germany.

The nation of Tomzilla was now 100 years old. Much had happened since the fall of Rome and the collapse of its empire. Tomzilla was just a small part of that once empire trying to survive in this world. It's capital is Barlano(rl München) held 100,000 people, but much of the surrounding land held little people. However, they were peaceful. But, they did have frightening warriors and skilled archers. The current Emperor was said to be decended from the Romans themselves. His name was Thomas Derious. He now looked for alliances to find new lands.

OCC:Switzerland is SO mine!

IC:Ravea is now 352 years old. Founded by a group of wayward Buddhists from the western edge of China, the country had a fine military; some of the best horsemen in the world resided here. Paladins and knights were the main force of the army, along with a formidable Longbow unit. The army also employed Spearmen and Skermishers to great effect. It's Swordsmen and Axemen are well trained and well disiplined. However, the state of Ravea's navy was simply pathetic.

Ravea's leader, Martin Senna, was looking outward, both for new alliances and for new conqests.

King Erich and his fearsome Kaufmanstaders loaded on to 15 great longboats. Erich had with him over 1000 warriors under his command in this flotilla. They were armed with broad swords, war hammers, axes and a few bows. Their goal was to spread Kaufmanstad's influence, trade, find suitable places for future settlement, and most importantly, to pillage all towns and kingdoms that stood in their way.
Before leaving the homeland, Erich met with his brother, Thorvald. "Thorvald, I leave you in charge of our Fatherland! Take good care of it, make it flourish while you stand in my stead."
"Brother, I will do as you wish, may Odin make the winds blow in your favor."
With that they embraced, and Erich the Bold set off westward, with the helpless coastal towns of England and France as his first target.

IC:Rodasna's armies had not laid down their weapons for centuries. Constantly expanding, constantly conquering. His borders were protected, adn his men on the east shores of Italy.

He claimed Italy as his becuase it was ruled by a close ally of his before his allies empire dissolved (I do so Becuase I control it in the future). A small section was already his and his vast army was there to tkae the rest.

OOC: Alright, I take that as I can attack. Not you but Italy.

http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/country/italy.html

This is a map of Italy. The city of L'Aquila is located very close if not on Corfinium. That's where my men are. We are moving against Teramo.

IC:

50 horseman were in the trees to the right and left of the battlefield. Rodasna's men numbered upwards fo 300. He had roughly 75 archers, 150 swordsman, 100 pikeman, and 50 skirmishers. These men were to take the army of Teramo and later teh city.

Teramo had sumonded its full might of 50 archers, 75 swordsman, 20 pikeman, and 20 skirmishers.

A small river ran in between teh armies and it was very cold. Who would cross?

It was made evident when Borman soldeirs began to cross, then enemy arrows came. As soon as the soldiers had crossed they began to retreat. Teramo men surged forward, only to ready for a victory. When they were no more then 3/4 across the retreating force turned and battled them. Archers quickly picked off the stragglers. It wan't long before the army of Teramo turned heels and ran. But as they fled the cavalry came out and sealed the exit. The infantry decimated tehm as they fought to open a gap in the line of horsemen.

Teramo had fallen to Borman.

The Ravean army had no sooner crossed into Italy than it began to terrorize it's citizens. The army was the most powerful in northern Italy, and it quickly took Varese with an almost non-existent amount of causilties. The almost unstoppable Ravean Calvalry crushed the small army of Varese is less then a day, with the help of it's archers. The small city was soon added to the growing Ravean Empire.

Next on the list was Milan, which would be a vastly more difficult city to take. It was much larger, huge, in fact, and would be difficult to take without seige weapons. Perhaps an ally would provide them-but first the Ravean Empire needed an ally to trade with.

ic:
*the four hundred Kihans moved on, after the short skirmish there was little resistance to be found, a rouge, a lone rider, but they showed no imediate offensive actions. As the day wore on, Octavio (overall leader) called for a quicker march and gallop. By nightfall the forces were within sight of Naples (in south-west Italy). Torches, candles and other lights could be seen in the city, the Kihans had set up tents, made fires, normal encampment tactics, but they had gatherd extra wood and tinder, and during the night, when the guards at Naples were watching, they lit the fires, making thier numbers seem bigger than they actually were. The Kihans took a two hour rest from thier march, battle and encampment. The people within Naples didnt dare to send out troops to attack, with the number of fires made the Kihans seemed to have at least a thousand men, when in fact they had less than half that number. After the two hours of rest, the archers were called to action, they were to put dark robes on and sneak to the east of the city, with a full quiver of arrows. The horsemen mounted up, and prepared for a battle in the light of thier camp. Octavio took a small, premitive spyglass(*), and looked through it at the city, it was blurred, but he could tell roughly how many guards there were. Then the attack began, a man fired a badly aimed flaming arrow at the city, the cavalry moved to the east. Naples' sounded its warning bell, in moments a good number of the garrison was on the walls, ready to fire arrows when the cavalry got close enough, but they didnt, they rode around, those thaqt had torches waved them about, but they stayed out of range. Another flaming arrow was fired from the camp. Then, the Kihan archers who layed in wait fired a volley, followed by another and another. The defenders quickly took cover behind their battlements and towers, they fired as best they could, but the Kihan archers wore dark clothes and were almost invisible in the dark. The defenders soon began to fire flaming arrows in an attempt to find the Kihan archers, but it was no use, the archers fired volleys and then fled back to the camp. the Cavalry then moved towads the northeast of the city, but still out of arrow range. This was all a bluff. The warning bell rang again, but it was to late. The Kihan infantrymen had scaled the unmanned south and southwestern walls, and charged like a flood into the city, thier numbers were small, but they to were dressed in dark clothes. They rushed along the walls, throwing men down or over them with pole arms, chopping them with axes, or cutting through them with scythes and scimitars. The defenders quickly realised the city was overun, and began to flee, the attack came from the south, so it was logic to run to the north, a big mistake. The Cavalry layed in wait, and as the gate opened and Naple's soldiers fleet, they were cut down. The cavalry tried to kill as ffew as possible citizens, but in the dark it was difficult. In the end, Naples fell. The Kihans incured few causulties to the cavalry and archers, but the infantry took the brute of the assault, and the brute of the losses. The Kihans then split thier forces, the Cavalry went back to the camp, while the infatry moved through the city pulling clean up duty. The Cavalry dismounted and moved the camp supplies into the city. The siege lasted a short time, but the results were the same. The Kihans were victorious, and now had a foothold in the land of Italy.*
(ooc: *For future referance, the Arabians were good with thier optics skills, i think it is quite possible they could have made premitive spyglasses)

Know this;

Our people were decieved by our Lords;
whom did break the bond that was bled

Thus our leader, Chief Bollinboke Si

Our King, sunning in his sin so high
did fall from his gracious sky
by fire

Thus our chief, did stand for the crown
as urged by our strength and might
rules King Bollin

True King Bollin, rules with his blade
but an open hand to all
spake to all to come and salute
his reign so true

Thus he welcomes all, trade and good

IC: Gwlacavad and his twin brother Gwalcmai knelt in the trees on the lower slopes of the mountains. His warband was hidden in the mountains right now. He and his brother were watching the Saxon's march past.
Most of the British Isles had been under Saxon rule for lifetimes. Only the Cymry were left. The Saxons called them Welas 'foreigners'. Gwalcavad and his men had been conducting raids along the border of the Welsh mountains to keep the Saxons back and for the most part, it was working. He and his men would need help to push them back though. They would need better weapons and armor. They would need allies, but as far as they knew, the world hardly knew of their plight. Everything everywhere was looking bad. Viking raids had increased on the east side of Britain. Gwlacavad had no idea what was happening on the continent.

"Sire. Italy is under siege by various enemies. It is only time till an army comes to take Bari."

"Bari shall not fall."

"Sire. We were powerful when the romans were here, we are powerful together. We must unite what remains of Italy and drive back the invaderrs."

A man burst through the door panting for breath, "Borman has come!"

"Sire I told you!"

"Arm everyone!"

"Too late, there less than a mile away."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The men of Bari stood in a line. Shields were held firm and striahgt while cavalry flanked the sides and archers stood behind. Pikeman stuck their weapons over the shields to hit any attacks.

Arrows streamed over head forcing the Infantry to rise their shields above their heads. While they did so the archers shot arrows straight and true to the now unshielded side of the enemy. Men dropped as they instictly moved tehir shields. Then the arrows from above crashed down slaying more. Then arrows streamed from the left and right and soldiers charged out. Pikeman instantly formed to slay the cavalry on teh side that had come to stop them. Behind them their own cavalry waited to charge out. IT wasn't long before the shields were of no use and the enemy was behind the lines. Sicily's archers quickly drew steel, but to no avail. Swordsman poured out from the back slaying them. And thus the major army of Sicily fell.

It was only a few more skirmishes here and there before Bari was Under Borman's control.

*Octavio had done well so far in Italy, but he had few men, and had heard rumors of other armies closing in from the north and the east. He ordered three ships to be loaded only with the needed supplies, then then to sail to Tunisia and order ships to come to Naples.*

*The Conquest of Libya had went well, the armies under Iban had so far met little resistance. Until they reached the plains outside Tripoli. A large group of Libyan spearmen had ammased outside the city walls, and were detemined to stay there, they were supplied from the city (its a port), so starving them out wasnt an option. Iban camped outside the city, away from the archers. They hadnt conquered much of Libya, but they ahd passed through citys which were looted or taxed of the much needed supplies. Iban then came up with a plan. He ordered a day of rest, which was well recieved, and then he ordered his armies into formation. The Infantry formed squares, with long front and archers behind them. The Cavalry were divided, camels and horses, and then further into either archers, pole arms, or blade weapons. The horse-mounted pole arms were ordered to be the rear guard on the northern side of the infantry. (Ibans armied are to the west of Tunisia, the city is a port so supply of food is no problem.) The Camel pole-armes, though few, took the south rear guard of the army. The mounted blade men, both horse and camel, were put togather and were on the close flanks of the infantry. The horse mounted archers took a position to the south of the infantry, by the rear camel guard. The camel mounted archers were to the front of the infantry. The battle began with the Camel archers moving up and firing a volley of arrows into the Libyan spearmen. This attack inflicted little damage. This continued until the camel arhcer emptied thier quivers, and then they retreated back to the camp. The Libyans sent a few horses east to call for reinforcements, but there was no more action for the moment.*

The cavalry swept in and slaughtered all those in their path. The enemy soldiers stood no chance against the might of Borman.

The attack on Romania had begun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

All across the land soldeirs revealed their true loyalty and began to battle. In a matter of days Most of Romania was in Borman's grasp.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The capital city was not walled. The king said no army would ever get so far in so as to threaten the capital. But Borman did.

Cavalry surrounded the south and North sides of the city while Infantry surronded the west and east side. Arcehrs were behind them ready to slay the invaders.

Borman had lines of Infantry behind cavalry with archers behind them on every side of the city. Both sides were out of arrow range of each-other.

As night began to set it was evident teh moon would not shine. Perfect.

The army crept forward until they were in range of the enemy. Half of the archers in eachline fired flaming arrows at the enemies while the other half fired unlit arrows so as to remain unseen.

When the enemy sent out cavalry to disperse the archers the Pikeman charged. While the cavalry began to fall the enemy sent out their Infantry. These men were met by Borman's infantry. In the night the army of Borman hinned while that of Romania all but disapeared.

"Sire."

"What?"

"Our men are victorious."

"Add Romania to our empire."

*The stalemate between the Libyan forces and Ibans soon ended, a group of Libyan spearmen came, as reinforcments, but came at the flank of Ibans army, this worked to his advantage. His Infantry fell back, acting very dissorginized, while the camels held the Libyan reinforcements, thinking they had the upper hand, the Libyan men that wer outside the city charged fowards, but this was a mistake. Ibans cavalry moved in, the mounted archers rode along the lines, aiming as best they could at whatever higher ranks of men that could be seen. Then, the camel archers returned and fired their arrows into the ranks of the Libyans, it was a fierce battle, but Ibans mounted men slowly fell back in order, and then a flaming arrow was shot from Ibans camp and the mounted men began a full retreat, since they were already falling back, there were few causulties from the retreat. The Libyans persued Ibans mounted men, but Ibans archers layed in wait and, when the Libyans came clsoe enough, they let loose, then Ibans infantry moved fowards, and a fierce infantry battle waged. Iban took advantage of this moment, he called togather his cavalry (on horses) and he ordered a charge into the now undefended Tripoli. He ordered his camels around to flank the Libyan forces. As Ibans forces moved to thier positions, the Libyans made a mad advance into a certain position on Ibans line, and then they began a full retreat, with a number of soldiers carrying a wounded and well dressed man. Ibans forces took advantage of this, his cavalry moved into the city, easily dispatching the few who stood in their way, the infantry persued them, the archers fired as best they could, and then the camels came around, incircling the Libyan force. The archers ,mounted and footmen, fired at close range into the Libyan forces, and then one of them managed to raise a white flag, the remaining Libyans, a group of some one hundred, layed down thier arms. Iban came to the circle of men, a transilator was found in the city and brought out. In short, the leader of Tripoli was badly wounded, the city was in Iban's hands, and the men surrendered. Tripoli had fallen. Standard precedures were followed, the men were gatherd and buried. Shortly after the battle, the leader of Tripoli died, due to blood loss. There was soem time to rest and re-supply, but the major city of Libya had fallen. Ibans infantry stayed in the city, his Cavalry and Camel forces were replinished, and a number of Libyan spearmen joined his force. The Libyans were sent out to spread word of the fall of Tripoli, and to gather forces for future conquest. A messenger was sent back to Tunisiato tell of Ibans succes, and the rest of Ibans men, camel mounted and horse mounted, continued on, being lead by Iban himself. Meanwhile, in Tunisia, more forces had gatherd, still a good number of cavalry as it took footmen some time to cross the deserts. Forces werent the only thing gathering, enemies of Octavio(leader, currently in Naples) had gatherd, lead by his weak advisor. When, or if Octavio returned there would be a plan to depose him.*

*Eventually five galleys arrived within sight of Naples, on board were sailors and archers. As they neared the docks of Naples they loosed a hail of arrows upon the city, this incited a mutiny between the sailors, who were loyal to Octavio, and the archers who werent. The sailors managed to dock and lower planks, within moments the infantry from the city stormed the ships and dispatched the archers. In all, most of the infantry in Naples were harmed, but a few fell to the archer fire, more were wounded. Octavio rounded up fifty of his most loyal cavalrymen, and boarded the galleys, then the sailors began to sail back to Tunisia. He left Renaldo in charge, but would soon send more galleys to fetch him and his men.
In Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia, a large force of some five hundred had gatherd, another general came to power to lead these forces, his name was Rozzen. Rozzen lead his cavalry forces westward, into Algeria, to begin conquest. The Kihan provinces had began their expansion, four major general for four directions. Octavio, the leader of the Kihan empire, would soon return to Tunisia, Renaldo stayed behind temporarily in Italy, Iban had captured Tripoli in the east, and now Rozzen began his exploits westward.*

OOC: I edited the map, orange is the new guy.

IC:
The empire was growing. The new emperor, Valk, set his sights on Bulgaria.

Bulgaria was a peaceful land. There army numbered around a hundred. And they would all die.

Arrows cut the men down as the cavalry charged across the plain. The soldiers of Bulgaria huddled behind their shields. These were no warriors and they were easy meat for the army of Borman. After their defeat and the capture of several towns Bulgaria surrendered.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Valk had a large empire. But no allies, and no enemies, at least none he knew about. So he sent out ships to all the lands (Spain, Sicily, and merchant wagons to Switzerland)

Pirates attacked and sunk the ships for Sicily but those to spain ran into something else.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Sir, look here."

The man peered through the crude spyglass. He placed it down and said one word, "Flag?"

"We don't know sir. Arn't pirates. No one we know."

"Tell the men to get to battle stations, and to arm themselves."

As the ship sailed near they found it to was an exploration vessel.

"Whats the closest land?"

"Sicily, hundred miles or so."

"Then I guess we'll meet on the ships."

Admiral Lovinikich walked across the plank that connected the two ships.

"Hail. I am from the nation of Borman. Our lands are vast, our armies great, and our women even better."

He chuckled as he stuck his hand out. THe man took it and gave it a hearty shake.

"I represent Kyleralia."

It was time to expand again.

The lords had had ablut enough of Italy; they would advance there to milan later. Now, Ravea had plans of moving east, into Austria, as well as into France. Bloth campains were successful. Ravean horsemen blew into the french countryside like an unstoppable force, and did indeed not stop until it controlled everything between Lyon and Dijon. Orleans was the next sutible target.

http://www.map.freegk.com/france/france.jpg

As for Austria, about 500 spearmen and a little over 200 archers pushed thier way through the countryside with relitive ease. The campain finally halted when the force took Innsbruck, controlling all the surronding countryside from there to Switzerland.

*The trip from Naples to Tunis was a short one, but when Octavios galleys arrived in Tripoli, they didnt sail into town, rather waited in the shallows. A few smallers boats were launched, making their way ashore away from the city. The men in the smaller boats all had thick wooden shields, it proved well as when they came ashore they were met with a shower of arrows, they blocked and blocked, buying time for Octavio andh is cavalry force to disembark in the shallow waters and get ashore, they quickly surrounded the archers, they surrendered quickly. Then, Octavio's advisor rode out from the city gates with fifty horsemen looking for a fight. Octavio wasted no time. The two forces charged and meet, horse to horse and blade to blade. Octavios cavalry crushed his advisors, the advisor somehow escaped, and began to retreat, but a lucky long shot from a bow, shot by Octavio, hit him in the back of the neck, it went through. Octavio now had full support of his people. He quickly ordered a fleet of galleys to sail to Naples to pick up Renaldo.*
*To the east, Ibans forces had ammased again, some five hundred Libyan spearmen gathered, along with two hundred riders, all mounted on Arabian stallions, his forces numberd seven hundred. Along with the spearmen, the Libyan tribes gave their allegience to this new general. Iban, after some time, moved his forces eastward. The cavalry took to the front and back of the army, it was sizeable, infantry were prone to ambush, espically in the large desert, but luckily there were no ambushes and Iban made his way easily through the lands, they stopped at a small desert outpost (equivilent of RL Al Jaghbub) and re supplied and rested.*
*With word of Octavio toppling the plot against him, it inspired a great sense of patriotisim, and Rozzens cavalrymen equiped thier horses and moved into Algeria sooner than excpected, they made little was into Algeria before various forces harrased Rozzens advancement, it came to a head as a group of about six hundred camel riders and cavalrymen charged into Rozzens forces. There was a major battle, and no time for formations. In the end, Rozzens forces triumphed, but incured about 100 losses, and some 150 wounded. The dead were buried and the wounded sent back to Tunis. Rozzens forces had been halfed in one battle, but he continued on, there was now little resistance as Rozzen had defeated most of the oppisition.*

A sail appeared on the horizon as the greek people began to worry. Then another, then another, and yet still more. By the time the Greeks realized they were being invaded it was to late.

Men charged off the ships and attacked the port. It quickly fell. This happened likewise in many Greek ports.

Armies clashed on many hills and valleys as Greeks steadily lost land to the Borman attack. Men rallied and one battle would decide the fate of Greece.

A rolling plain was where the armies met. Cliffs were on the sides of the plain and paths were behind each army. Borman had 200 swordsman, 200 cavalry, 50 cavalry archers, 100 archers, 100 pikeman, and 50 skirmishers. Greece had rallied a grand total of 500 men. 200 swordsman, 150 cavalry, 150 archers. Grass brushed against the feet of the armies as they prepared for comabat.

Bormans cavalry were divided into two groups, one on either side of the infantry. The infantry formed up in rows, flanked by the cavalry. Behind them archers drew back their bows and released a volley.

Greek infantry brought their shields up to protect from the volleys. Cavalry rode backwards to avoid the arrows as archers huddled under the shields of the swordsman.

Borman archers formed 4 groups, 25 each. 2 groups shot to the heads of the enemies while 2 shot straight at the bodies. While one group shot the other reloaded. This way there were always arrows shooting straight and above at the enemy.

By the time Infantry and cavalry moved in on the enemy they had lost more than half their numbers.

The demoralized men were no match for the fierce soldiers of Borman. As these men turned to flee. So did that which was Greece. Now it is not but part of the empire.

OOC:Articas, how did you just walk through Saxon controled England to get to Wales? In 962 the Britons were ONLY in Wales and Cornwall. The Celts had Scotland. IC: Gwalcavad returned to the Caer to hear reports from the other Cymry. The Saxons had learned by now that marching into the mountains was a bad plan. For the most part the Saxons seemed content with what they had stolen.

*The galleys were able to quickly cut across the waves towards Naples, thier, Renaldo loaded his men onto the ships and left one hundred men their, along with galleys for escape, if needed. Renaldo and his men quickly returned to Tunisia and met with Octavio.*
"We bring rumors of more... vast armies conquering the lands"*said Renaldo.*
"How far east ?"*asked Octavio.*
"Greece has fallen, i would assume they are moving towards Turkey.*"replied Renaldo.*
"This is truly bad news. I want you back on those galleys, take one hundred horsemen and go to Constantanople (Istambul) and see how the battles go, no matter what i dont want foreign armies to control land past that city, barter with them, we must control eastern Turkey. I dont care which side you fight with, or ally with, but you cant let any empire, kingdom or monarchy control eastern Turkey. Understand ?"*asked Octavio. Renaldo nodded, he quickly gatherd up one hundred cavalry, twenty mounted archers nad eieghty mounted blademen. He embarked on the galleys who then sailed to Turkey, if they were to ally with the native Turks, or the Invading empire, his orders were clear.*
*In the east, Iban had rested and re supplied his men, he then ordered his men to advance, in a short time they were in Egypt, marching towards Cairo.*
*In the west, Rozzens cavalry rode on to Algeries, the capital city. There were few mounted archers left, so it would be some time before Algiers fell to them.*
*In Tunis, after Renaldo departed, Octavio quickly thought about how to expand more. His armies were to the east and west, they had a foothold in Italy, but the heart of Africa wasnt open. Legends spoke of great beasts and fierce spearmen abound, but this only made Octavio more Curious. He ordered a group of twenty five men to go with horses for speed and camels to carry cargo. He ordered these men to go south, into the heart of Africa, to learn more about the land, and to scout it out.*

The men held their shields up as arrows pelted their boats. They were less than a mile from Morroco's ports. When the ships finally crashed into the ports men quicklt tried to clamber on. Borman soldiers fiercley fought and repelled the invaders. Soon they began to fall back and Borman pursued. And thus Borman gained a port in Morroco.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

THe trebuchet spun as it released its massive boulder. This smashed into the tower guarding the gate. Several more boulders and the gate fell.

Men quickly clambered teh debris and stood at the top. Arcehrs had their bows drawn tight on the wall.

"Charge!"

Infantry rran forward with their shields upwards. Arrwos smashed into these, unfortunately some went through the shields and hit men.

They climbed the boulders and met the defenders head on. With the assistance of pikeman they gained the foothold on th edebris and swarmed in.

When the lord of the town awoke he found a knife at his neck.

"Morroco is ours."

The man slit his throat and thusly another city of Morroco fell to Borman.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Morroco had called every last man they had. 1,000 all told. 300 Swordsman, 300 archers, 200 cavalry, and 200 pikeman.

Borman had brought one and a half that number. But the field was in favor of Morroco.

A large hill was where they made their stance. The men held in shields as archers stood behind them and cavalry furhter back. they knew there only chance would be minimal casualties.

Borman cavalry charged up the slope. It was steep enough that some horses slipped and fell bring their riders and those behind them down with them. When they neared teh top they battered the shields.

THe men held fast and eventually the cavalry slowly fell back. Several eager soldeirs broke from the wall with the hopes of a Borman skull as a trophy. It was their skulls that would be trophies.

Several more cavlary charges ensued, all failiure. Finally archers came forward. Arrows smashed into and even a littel through shields. Finally Morroco archers came to retaliate.

All Bormans that could held shields to protect from the raining hell.

While this happened Borman archers who had snuck through the forests on the side of the hill released volleys on the weak side of the shield wall. It turned to protect form this threat, givng the opportunity Borman needed.

Pikeman wided the gap in the wall and Borman cavalry surged through.

They attacked the men from the back and a tumult ensued as all Morroccan order was lost. Infantry quickly hit the now panicked solciers and within minutes the battle was won.

The hill fell, and with it Morrocco.

King Erich had had a immensley succesfull campaign in raiding the southern coast of England and Normady. However, Northeastern France had been more successfull and Kaufmanstaders had moved into that are now occupied by Kaufmanstad.

OOC: The area I have conquered (sorry for not posting in a while) is the area south west to Calais from Belgium.

Returning to Kaufmansburg, Erich read the message sent from the Kay Son. He sent the following response:

"Brothers! I look greatly to strengthening our bonds of friendship. Kaufmanstad is a mighty and powerful kingdom, and I am sure that fate has much in store for us. Please accept as a gift of friendship this long boat, and my fourth daughter, Helga.
Valhalla, I am coming!"

King Kyle makes a striking move as he mobilizes forces along the northern Russian Border. After mobilizing his forces King Kyle Declared war on Russia.

Hours later Kyleralian forces invade Russia and push forward. They are met with great resistance and lose about 100 men. They then push south to St.Petersbugh and capture it, it is renamed St.Kylesburgh. They continue pushing south until they Reach The border of the Borman Empire.

The chancellor had been in the dungeon for years. More than a decade. In fact...he couldn't remember his name. What was it? John, Locker, Fred..No. He would call himself...Count. But he had not been falling apart during this time. He had kept himself in shape to the best of his abilities with the things ion his cell. And he had dug a tunell. He had stated over twice becuase he had gone the wrong direction..but now he was close.

Count bashed at the rock with his home made shovel. It fell off and light streamed through.

"Aggghh! My eyes."

He looked around and then was horrified at what he saw. The castle had been surrounded with a wall while he was inside and guards were all over. He would never get out.

After he had replaced the rocks he crept back through the tunell, but took a wrong turn. He surfaced in another cell and found a body rapped in cloth, it would soon be taken out. He quickly put the body in his cell got into the bag. He closed it and heard footsteps.

"So how did he die?"

"I dont know. But at least he's gone."

He heard a squeak and then footsteps in the cell. He was hoisted up and was carried off for a while.

Eventually he felt something wrapped around his feet. Then he realized he had made a mistake, he smelt sea air.

He began to struggle as his body rocked from side to side. When he finally began to lose himself he felt air soaring by him. He looked, and then felt the sea flush into his cloth.

The cloth began to come off as he struggled to get the chains off his feet. Finally he accepted that he was to die. He relazed and his muscles grew thinner. Then the chains slipped off.

His body shot upwards and he rose to the surface. He looked up, no one there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Count had spent another several years learnign geography, history, math, and virtually every aspect of warfare. He had gathered a fari amount of gold to his name and when he made his move he was the essence fo nobility.

"Count Lok Jailord to see king Vlad."

"Where have you been? He is emperor Ceaser."

"Oh. I have been sick for many a year."

The guards began to take pity and rose their pikes. They stomped and the door opened.

Count walked down the red carpet and founf Ceaser sitting in a massive throne.

He crawled up and kissed the mans feet.

Ceaser was old. His wrinkles were evident, his hair white, and he was completly mad. He looked left and right constantly. He moved slow and people surrounding him helped him to move.

"Do you remember me Vlad?"

"What!"

A tint of emotion shown in the mans voice as he pushed aside his aides. He feebly rose as he was unknowingly (SP?) helped by his aides.

"None have called me that for nearly half a century."

To the amazement of Count he realized that his body had to be over 50. He ruminated over this new information, "Shows you what the mind can do."

Then he rose and his hand went to his left leg, seemingly steadying him, but in reality gripping the handle of his blade. "Thats becuase you've locked me away for years."

"Is..Is...Is it you? Its been too long."

"Yes."

Count drew his blade forward and slew the man where he stood.

The guards moved, but stopped. Then an aide got to his knees and began to bow.

"All hail Ceaser II!"

"All hail," The words echoed from the rest of the crowd as they too got on ther knees.

"Send word to the armies. Reinforce the borders. I dont want to lose Romania to the Ukranians."

"Sire. We have expanded since you last saw."

A map was thrust into Ceasers hands and his mouth gaped.

"Impossible."

"Nay sire, nothing is impossible."

"Well tell them to reinforce the borders. This needless expansion comes to an end. Begin work on improving the lives or our citizens, and establishing good trade."

"Immediatly sire."

Over the many years Kyleralia had siezed vast amounts of land. The new obtained territory, mostly eastern was renamed, New Kyleralia. Colonization gradually grew and thousands were living on the new land. However the Kyleralian Government knew there needed to be more order out there. One by One provinces were set up mostly named after the King. The Provinces were ran by their own government but paid taxes to the KPG ( Kyleralian Province Gov.) wich were then taken to the Federal Government. These Provinces helped make Kyleralia Stronger as pretty large armies were produced in the settlements. Kyleralia had a new vast empire but hungered for more.

A new Ravean army, upwards to 1000 men, more than half calvalry, was sent to france to resupply the small amount of troops that Ravea still had there. The massive army expanded from Orleons alll the way to the outskirts of paris; The army then split in half. One half started to Siege Paris; the other swung north and took the city of Nancy, then swung west and took Rouen; Paris was now in a stranglehold, surrounded by a thousand men from the south and the north. Within 15 days of terrible fighting, the city was finally taken.

Almost all of france was either in control of Ravea or Kyleralia now.

OOC: Ok, this thread has spun out of control. When I set it up, I didn't mean for everyone to jump forward a decade in less than a weekend. If any of you have seen the "Colonization" thread, I was hoping it was going to flow like that.

Heck, I'm gone for a weekend, and now I'm outnumbered because I wasn't around to post!

(ooc:im out, as Kaufmanstad said, it spun out of control. And Borman, im sorry, but read other peoples posts, and think a hard, long time about the history of the era, and other peoples posts. I had conquered Libya, and working on Algeria. Greece is a land covered in mountians, you cant blast through and excpect one or two cliffs and a major battle, it would majorly be decided upon that, but you still must sieges numerous citys. And youre men cant storm across evreywhere, there are small complications, say... rivers...terrain..other armies (both PC and NPC), small things like that. And you started in parts of Europe, youre armies simply cant cope with so many differant terrains, the European crusaders didnt make it to well in the desert, just for one example. And you would need thousands, if not millions of men to control land of that size. And there are simple logistical and supply problems for an empire that size, look at Rome, they had problems getting supplies over the English channel, not to mention entire seas (the mediteranian, or the seas od sand, take youre pick). So, i will elave it at that.)
