The channels flicked by the screen at a speed which only men can achieve. Law & Order, stupid reality show . . . wait two stupid reality shows, cartoons, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: LA, Law & Order, more craptacular television programming . . . Chris flipped through the channels, trying to find something, anything even remotely decent to watch before his girlfriend got home with dinner. He wasn't quite fast enough.

"Hi sweetie, I'm home!" she shouted from the foyer. As she walked into the living room, she deepened and raised her voice and said, "Behold! For I bring the Pepsi, and the Tacos, and the joy, and the happy goodness which shall devour your soul!"

"Don't get so excited just yet Joan, there ain't a damn thing on the telly to watch."

"Well, let me see then."

He handed her the remote.

"Here, this doesn't look too bad, plus it's the history channel, so you know it's gonna be educational." She smiled her playful smile, snuggled up next to her love, and twisted open her drink.

Good evening, and welcome to the first part in the Nationstates History Network's special presentation of Malre: Modern Genesis. We will look at the defining moments of our past, the people who influenced their future, where it lead to, and where it is still to go. So sit back, enjoy the show, and we hope you learn a thing or two about who we all really are, and why the Day of Rebirth is so important to our society.

ACT I

Alec Johaans was born in a small town within January Province. Not much is known of his family, except that his parents were killed abroad before he was four months old. After their deaths, young Alec was taken into government care, and was adopted only a few months later by a prominent politician who held very high office within the national government. The man, Carl Fritz, a senior advisor to the then President, and his wife Maria could not bear child, so they sought to find an heir to the family's legacy. Throughout his childhood, Carl taught Alec all about government, how it worked, why it worked, and why it was needed in the first place.
When Alec had graduated from school, he had his first taste of political life, becoming an intern for the regional governor. There he learned much about the bureaucracy permeating the nation, and gave the first indications of the man he was to become.
After only two years with the governor, he left, to 'find himself,' he said. He met up with a group of young adults, and took to their cause of protesting the government, it's corruption, and it's other failings. He reached a turning point in his life on August 3, when he went to a public rally, held by then president Santio, widely acknowledged as the favorite for reelection. During Santio's speech, Alec was able to take the stage.

"When we return, we will see what Alec said, that so affected everyone around the country, and led to his rise to power."

OOC: Will have more later, and I promise it gets better.
