"In downtown Monterrey today, units of the Army Reserve were called out to defend the capital and assist the elite Household Guard defend the city from what is apparently a coup attempt by elements of the army. Fighting has been fierce in many sections of the city, and reports are also coming in that many conscripts and reservists have deserted.

This was apparently triggered when a rocket was launched from the new space launch facility at Cape Reyes today, and fighting has been going on there between the Crowns Lifeguards and elements of the Air Force and Army.

I see tanks are heading toward this building now, and I am trying to make out their markings. Umm, they seem to be leveling their main guns at us and

New Shiron reports that a nuclear explosion, estimated at 5 megatons, has occured just outside of the capital city of Upper Big Sur, Monterrey. This followed another nuclear explosion, estimated at 1 megaton, that occured 150 miles east of the city at a height of 50,000 feet.

New Shiron reports that it has suffered significant collateral damage to electronic systems in areas near the border of Upper Big Sur, as has the tiny nation of New Cynthia (which has temporarily lost contact with much of the outside world except via relay to New Shiron)

Estimates of the death toll in Upper Big Sur are close to 4 million dead, as Monterrey was the principal city of the nation, as well as its capital, and radiation casaulties are expected to be severe as well.

New Shiron has ordered elements of its Royal Guard to enter that nation to secure nuclear facilities (such as powerplants) and ensure that no weapons of mass destruction remain unaccounted for. In addition, all National Guard, Coast Guard and Air National Guard units are on full alert and all leaves are cancelled and all reservists ordered to report at once to their units.

Luckily, the winds are blowing out to sea, so radiation effects are expected to be minimal outside of Upper Big Sur.

Military forces from New Shiron and New Cynthia have occupied Upper Big Sur and captured the last royalist forces there. The body of the Queen has been located and her surviving advisors are being turned over to the International War Crimes Tribunal for prosecution.....
