[OOC] Whats with the ...

I see so many RP's where people end a sentence with ... instead of a normal full stop.

He walked to the park...hoping to get some chips. Buying some from a store, he walked home... Opened the door...

Even if that was slightly exaggerated, I still stthink we can have less of the ... in normal writing blocks. For me, its irritating to read and I see it as a sign that the writer can't end sentences, or just can't write well.

Anyone agree?

They can indicate a break in a narrative, an omission, or be used to lead the eye to a point of some intended significance. Few novels are written on NS forums, and even fewer really formal documents.

Oh, I might add that placing such a minor OOC complaint in the International Incidents forum...

I guess. I didn't mean don't use them completely, just that its a bit odd to fill a whole block of writing with them.

Ooc- I think some of the stuff I have written and some stuff I've Rped with others, could be properly formatted and made into a novel, the content and length is there, just need to edit out all the minor errors and put it all into proper structure.

This post will provide me with minutes of laughter.

Thank you.

An ellipsis can also used to indicate a pause in speech, or be used at the end of a sentence to indicate a trailing off into silence.

That's what I do a lot. I wonder if I do it too much...

When you created this thread, you really did expect everybody to do... this, didn't you :p ?

Yeah, I tend to use them alot. I use them in multiple roles: a break in action/time; leading off to the next sentence (which may contain action/etc.); and leading off to the next paragraph.

I personally like using the ... as it doesn't mean an abrupt end but adds to the so-called 'rythm' of the post and I'd rather see them used (well, not to the point of extremity but within reason).
