In the Capital City of New Islamabad
The leaders of the nation of The Lightning Star, the council of scholars, has stepped down from power. When asked why they resigned, the simply said "We resigned because it was our time to step down. It is time for a new government." Under the council, the Lightning Star has made leaps and bounds in cultural society, in civil rights, and in education. This move has puzzled most people, and they now wonder what will happen to their fair and prosperous nation.
On the 38th of Favian, 719 in the Grand Council Building
The new president of the nation, Thomas McFarland, walked into the hall of champions. Having overwhelmingly won the first succesfull democratic election since 320 years before, he had much to be happy about. After given his opening speech(which had to be cut from this post due to time contraints), he walked into a room with his most trusted adviors.
"O.K. Gentlemen, first things first, what shall we do about the armed forces?" he started out. The Lightning Star hadn't had an army in the last 19 years, but the nation had vast reserves of men and even more vast reserves of weapons. This had been a pressing issue, seeing how the world had beome way too dangerous to rely on foreign nations for defence. One of the advisros stood up. "Sir, if we WERE to amass an army, we have around 5,710,000 men which can be used. That would leave us with around... 571,000 fighting men and...5,139,000 support people, I.E. Truck Dirvers, medics, supply people, quartermasters." "Good," The president replied. "O.K., give the orders to begin calling for recruits. You, call the weapons companies to divert all weapons to the army. You there! how much will this all costs?"
"Uhh.... around $500 billion to start, sir! Around $300 billion for every year after that."
"Excelent! We can do that. Alright men, the Lightning Starian ARmy is ab out to be put back on the map!"

The Lightning Starian War machine is steadily re-building itself. The vast amount of factories and fortress' from the Bewaffnung der Leute are being brought back online. The Iron Fields, a massive 30 sq. mile area of land covered in weapons factories over 500 yards high was slowly becoming filled with life. Massive amounts of men were clamoring to join the army, and the nation was once again feeling safe. The Lightning Starian War Monster, which lay dormant for nearly a generation, has begun to awaken.
((OOC: If you do the math, you will notice that my army is 1% of my total population as of Sept. 23, 2004. While that may seem small to those war-mongerers amoung you, I am focusing more on QUALITY than quantity. I may have only 500,000 fighting men, but they are all trained greatly. My government spends more than $50,000 arming, training, feeding, and paying most of the men, as well as for building new forts. And even though it may be small, my army could still crush many a opponent who, even though they have more people, is poorly trained. Consider yourself warned.))
