EM-125 Swordfish Class Corvette/Light Frigate (FSG)
An enlarged version of the extremely popular Barracuda (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=274974&page=9&pp=15) Class, the swordfish is a result of a program to update that class, but because the Barracuda was originally designed to be compact, little growth room was available. This ship therefore uses very similar technology and equipment but based on a larger hull form to include new features. It is designed to engage a wide range of underwater, aerial and surface targets, has a very low radar signature due to the hull and superstructure design and a very low acoustic signaturedueto the pump jet propulsors.
Owing to improvements in miniaturisation since the original Barracuda was developed and the extra space available, some advanced computer systems found on the larger EM-140 (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=275113) type frigate.
The unique radar system has a range that covers the entire range of the missiles and beyond, tracking concurrently up to 30 targets. The gun fire control system detects air and surface targets, performs automatic tracking, and computes firing data. The radar which is used to detect surface targets provides fire control system with designation data for eight targets at a time. The propulsion system is an automated, gas turbine installation, which can be controlled from either the Pilot House or the Central Control Station. With both turbines on line and both pump jets running, the plant can deliver a top speed in excess of 33 knots.
The EM-125 is equipped with air-conditioning and ventilation systems to provide efficient operation in any climatic conditions and NBC chemical protection systems. It can be operated in sea conditions up to Sea State 8. The Swordfish class has a modern, automated communications system. This system is joined with a satellite communications transceiver and a satellite receiver to provide high-speed, low- interference information transfer via satellite links. For two-way tactical communications, the vessels carry a full range of modern UHF, VHF, and HF radio equipment.
