Maria Saranova lay awake in the darkened room of her apartment. She contemplated the earlier events. The Empire seemed to have its fist in every aspect of life as she knew it. The economy, the media, everything. She sat up quickly as she was seized by a fit of rage. Her frustration was boiling over. She reached into the drawer on the bedside table, and removed a small caliber pistol. She looked at the instrument, ran her fingers over the grip and barrel. She raised it, slowly.

Suddenly, there came a pounding on the door. She slid the gun under her pillow, and got out of bed. She walked to the door. The pounding continued. As she reached to turn the handle, the door flew open, slamming her backwards to the floor. Three Imperial Praetorians rushed into the room, the flashlights attached to their brandished assault rifles illuminating her. She stared at the men, wide eyed with terror, before scrambling to get away. If she could only reach the pistol.

The boot of one of the Praetorians came down hard on the back of the woman’s leg. She screamed in agony. Behind the black mask the soldier grinned. The captain of the soldiers stepped forward, and stood before the grimacing figure of Maria.

“Maria Saranova, you are hereby charged with high treason in the form of support of the Communist party. By order of Chancellor Avidius Cassius, you are to be taken into Imperial custody and deported to a residential re-education camp.”

Maria had stopped struggling. The soldier was pressing his foot down harder on her leg. Her sight began to waver. Just before she lost consciousness, she caught sight of the captain chuckling, overcome with demonic glee.

"It's about damned time," commented the Prime Minister through gritted teeth, "that these fashisti learned a lesson." He crushed a pencil in his hand. "Let me know what we can do ASAP. I've had enough of being kind to them, and if Pavlov can do it, so can I."

((OOC: Oh yeah, forgot to mention that all of these actions are 100% secret IC. There is no way anyone could find out what the hell is going on as of now.))

Maria recovered consciousness in a small, nearly pitch black room. The walls shook with an unfamiliar rumble, and the buzz of electricity resounded through the strange place. She tried to move, but realized that she was bound to the floor where she lay. An iron door swung open and the clank of steel bottomed boots could be heard. A dark figure moved in front of her awkwardly angled view. The figure spoke. His speech was slow, and strangely marked by a bizarre accent.

“Miss Saranova, I see the charges against you are quite s-severe. Are you aware of the charges?

Maria replied. Her throat was dry, and it pained her to speak, thus her usually sonerous voice possessed a gravelly quality.

“I have no idea what you are talking about.”

“I see. Then perhaps I shall enlighten you. Do you know where you are, Miss Saranova? Of course you don’t. I shall tell you. You are aboard the GI-1 land ship Maria. Ironic isn’t it?”

Maria groaned. The chains were digging into her appendages.

“To business then. Are you the author of the Marxist work All Glory to The Proletariat?”

Maria did not reply.

“Obviously you are. There you go. That is your crime. By the order of our most gracious and noble Chancellor General Avidius Cassius, you are being carried over the Alberian steppe to a facility where you will receive re-education.”

The man smiled.

“And more.”

The figure brought his face close to Maria’s. A small light on the floor illuminated the man’s ghastly pale features. He moved his skeletal hand to her chin, and ran it over her skin. His mouth contorted to reveal jet black teeth.

“Yesss…You will do very nicely.”

She turned her head, but the man’s grip clenched like a vice, wrenching her face so that her eyes stared directly into his black orbs. He brought his nearly white, wormlike lips to hers and forced her to comply. She let out a muffled scream. As he withdrew, the sick grin still fashioned to his face, she spat on him.

He wiped the saliva away, and drew a thick wooden club from his belt. He raised his fist. Maria braced herself. The blow fell alongside her skull, and she was out cold.

OOC: I did wonder. Well anyway, reserve that for when it's probable that they'd be known - for god's sake don't do a DA and go "it's all secret, I can never be found MWAHAHA!".

Well, not really. First off, that be hijacking a thread, and second, on Army size, I /wish/! But I'd loooove to get in on this RP when things start becoming known.

The sky was clear, and the air was as ice when inhaled. The freezing winds of the steppe whipped around the enormous steel body of the GI-1 as it moved into position alongside a docking platform. A group of praetorians filed out, and assembled on either side of the short gangplank that led to the elevated platform.

The man who had accosted Maria stepped out, his black leather coat blowing around in the stiff winds. The sun illuminated his ghastly white face, augmenting the man’s lack of pigment. He took a pair of sunglasses from his coat pocket and put them on. A soldier walked quickly towards the gangplank. As the man in the coat approached him, the soldier saluted smartly and spoke.

“Colonel!”

The man in the coat returned the salute.

“How are the facilities?”

“Running perfectly, and ready to receive prisoners.”

“Excellent. We have our first with us right here.”

Two praetorians dragged Maria onto the dock.

“See to it that she gets accustomed to her new home.”

The Praetorians dragged Maria off, towards a lift. The Colonel and the man he had spoken to walked towards another lift, flanked by the first group of Praetorians. The soldier put his eye next to a scanning machine, and the doors opened. The two men boarded the elevator, and began to descend.

“The construction is really quite ingenious. The natural subterranean thermal heating keeps the generators running smoothly, and gives us complete climate control over every section of the facility. Not to mention the fact that security is incredibly easy to provide. The entire base is one gigantic mousetrap for escapees and infiltrators. No one gets in or out of this place unless we want them to.”

“I know. I designed it that way.”

“Well, of course, but it is a magnificent piece of architecture.”

The elevator traveled downward for several minutes, penetrating far below the surface of the Earth. The door finally opened, and the two men stepped out into a large reception hall. Their footsteps echoed on the stainless steel floor as they approached a sliding metal door behind a reception desk.

The soldier performed another retina scan, and the door slid open. They walked for several minutes through winding metal corridors, past groups of Imperial Praetorians and strange equipment, until they came to their final door. It bore a red stripe across the front, and there was a strange symbol emblazoned above it. One retina scan later, they entered a room buzzing with electronic noise, and droning voices of technicians, who sat at the computer terminals lining the walls.

The operations center was several layers deep. Lifts and staircases provided access to the other floors. At the end of each room of the operations center was a large glass window. The two men approached the first. Below them was an enormous cavern.

It was such that of one were looking down from above, one would be able to see to the bottom, but walkways crisscrossed the many layers, hanging suspended above the great pit, so as to facilitate movement to different areas, rooms, and cells. The walls were lined with walkways and doors. Praetorians marched about on every level.

The Colonel’s eyes caught sight of two soldiers dragging a figure towards one of the doors. The steel door slid open, and the men tossed the figure inside. The door sealed shut, and a red light appeared above the cell.

“Welcome to Nod, colonel.”

Across the Empire it was happening. The great purge of Communism was roaring to fulfillment in complete silence. In the dead of night they would come to your home, break down your door, and you would never be seen again.

Friends, neighbors, relatives here one day, gone the next morning. Nothing but a bashed in front door and some tire tracks outside the building. In reality, it was a small minority that was vanishing, but the frequency of the abductions made them seemed more numerous.

The Imperial Military Intelligence Agency had always been nothing more than a myth. A bedtime story to scare disobedient children. Now it was different. Men, women, children. For everyone it was all too real. The victims all had one thing in common, however: ties to the Communist party. Some were renowned leftist authors, others were merely subscribers to ‘Proletariat Today.’

Of course, it would have been impossible to draw that conclusion, as the GIMI did an excellent job of providing misinformation, and the abductions happened so fast, and were spread out over such a distance, that anyone who was not in the know would not have been able to see the obvious relation between victims. In practice and principle, it was brilliant.

For the neighbors and relatives of the victims, the story ended with the disappearances. For the GIMI and the victims themselves, that was just the beginning. The prisoners were rushed to a large military facility outside of Generia City, whereupon they were loaded onto GI-1 APCs, and shipped to the Alberian steppe, and the ‘facility.’

The official name of this facility was Nod. Nod was a prison, a detention and re-education facility for captured Communists, and other political prisoners. It was also any sane man’s worst nightmare. Buried deep beneath the frozen surface of the steppe, the facility was a self-sufficient holding facility, slave labor camp, military base, research facility, death camp, and apartment complex for officers.

Nod was run by a ghost. The name of the ghost was Colonel Isadore Georg Ilsyich. This name existed in no set of records, and was completely unknown even to most of the people he encountered on a daily basis. Not only was Colonel Ilsyich a ghost, he was also a monster.

The good Colonel had been indicted for war crimes at a scarcely publicized trial in Sofia five years earlier. He had been charged with rape and the massacre of several small Alberian villages. The trial had been fixed, however, by the GIMI, and he had gotten off with scarcely any punishment. After that, he had disappeared, but had continued to exist as a member of Project Revelations. Now, he had been put in charge of the Empire’s nightmare.

The prison was slowly filling as hundreds of shipments arrived at the docking facility, and the gateway to Nod.
