The New Asia (Diplomatic Roleplay)

Xiaguo
22-09-2004, 01:47
In Beijing, the New Asia Peace Conference has now started. Ending the 2 month talks on establishing borders and and governments. Asia is now ready to enter its new, era.

The Host, Bei Zhong Guo, or commonly known as, Xiaguo or North China has prepared the conference to be held between Asian and International countries having influence in Asian Affairs. The conference is to further expand Asia's diplomatic friendship.

Some areas and topics are,
Trade
Technology
Millitary
Transportation
And other issues which will be brought up by other nations.

"Welcome to the Constitutional Republic of China! Let us welcome you to New China, the New Great CHina! And for the basic idea of this conference, is to talk about trade and economics. of course, not only that, but other diplomatic subjects. We, I can say, have a bit to talk about." said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wu tse Min

Some Points Xiaguo wishes to point out is Trade. Throught RP's, we have never really had an official trading partners and such and I wish to have it established here.

I would also like others to post any sort of an alliance with who here, so we can all know about it before hand. Anything related, this is just a wrap up of our geography thread and such.

LRR would like to declare its borders:

In the north, the arctic ocean

In the south, China and Mongolia, probably Kyrgystan etc. too, although not as far as the Urals.

In the east, the sea of okhotsk and bering sea

I tend not to really deal with the western border. Sort of a russian wasteland between the Urals and, like, the Yienisey (s.p.).

I generally don't claim the Vladivostok area, as I sort of prefer Sakhalin. That and I don't want to be stuck bordering Dra-pol.

Also, does anyone have a link to the thing in Burma?

The Official List of Alliances and Etc

The Chinese Allegiance - Sino, Taiwan, Xiaguo, and Chuang-Han.
*Chuang-Han however does not wish to re-unite with CHina as whole.

Xiaguo - Agricultural Goods, Electronics, Automobile Parts, Raw Materials;Timber, Coal, minerals, etc, Frabrics, Seafood;Products. Xiaguo also is well known in the paper industry. Most car parts in Asia also comes from the big factories of Xiaguo.

I do have to, however, announce Xiaguo's decision to set a tariff, a permanent tariff on all foreign imports except for food products = 4.7%. The tariff on Chuang-Han, respectively has been also reduced to 4.7%. The rate is due to be lowered after economic screening.

Xiaguo is also looking forward in building stronger ties with Dra-Pol in regarding trade and tourism.

(I assume that there are already strong trade relations between me and you, Xiaguo, bordering eachother and all.)

LRR's major industries are as follows:

manufacturing (especially shipbuilding), agriculture (very limited, towards the southern steppe areas), technology, shipping, logging (due to stringent environmental regulations, much less than it was but still an industry worthy of note)...er...that's it I guess.

We've got plenty of older merchant ships that we'd be happy to offload onto Dra-pol.

The Empire of The Japanese People would like to offer an alliance. We also trade similar products to what your nation does.

We trade -

Uranium, Steel, Coal, Iron, Rice, Silk, Cotton, Wool, Paper, Papyrus, Jewelry, Diamonds, Glass, Furniture, Marble, Magnet, Agricultural Products (Vegetables, Fruit.) We do not import beer or export beer, nor do we import/export tobacco products or illegal drugs. Drugs only may be used if it is for medical use only. We also trade timber, and we are big for our book publishing. We are big manufacturers too.

We are techonlogical and informative advancers. We are willing to pay the tariffs. But we forbid any control over what we trade.

Spyr
22-09-2004, 15:01
The People's Republic of Spyr occupies the northern side of the Lyong Peninsula, which juts out into the Sea of Japan just above Vladivostok.

Major Exports: Steel and manufactured steel products*, electronics, computer software, published goods, textiles (cotton and silk), soy beans and processed soy products, electricity**.

Spyr's economy is based primarily off 'finished goods', with agriculture and raw material harvesting focussed soley on domestic consumption. Export industries tend to import raw materials, or partiall-manufactured goods from countries with cheaper labour, and complete them in Spyr to take advantage of the prevalence of specialists.

*These include aircraft and shipping, as well as trains, buses, and transport vehicles, and both electric and manualbicycles. However, the Spyran personal automobile industry is negligible due to domestic market issues.

** Not particularly relevant without a direct land-line link to the Spyran power grid, this export is consumed by neighbouring Lyong nations rather than those further afield.

OOC: I must second Marimaia and Hudecia here- much as I'd like to include as many people as possible, I would like to maintain my home territory!

The Kingdom of Sangun is cautiously interested in establising closer links to our neighbours, provided their interests can be made compatible with ours.

In terms of trade, Sangun can provide the following commodities for export: motor vehicles, metals, textiles, plastics and rubber products, chemicals, some forestry and agricultural products (most are needed for domestic industry).

We are interested in locating a source of uranium oxide for our powerplants (Hudecia- are we right in remembering that you can provide this?). Uranium is a key requirement for us considering our ambitious plans to eventually provide most of our electricity requirements from nuclear and hydro-electric sources.

At present Sangun also requires oil, to a figure of approximately 2.2 million bbl per day.

OOC:I want to role play a nation that has to reenter China, kinda like hong kong or taiwan. But then has questions about how its territories will be handled and its peoples treated - because they've all been living under a similar government as the US for decades and wouldnt want to go back to being a communist state. I know theres representation and a congress in the current chinese system - but I want to argue that its for show and bogus.

In the mean time we've establish a robust space exploration and colonization program with currently half our population off world. We could hostily use space resources to defend our island and destroy a navy and aproaching armies. So this becomes a very diplomatic issue - and a sensitive one because china doesnt want to risk apearing weak, so it wont risk an attack.

If China is convincing we will turn over everthing in our territories except space assets - this can be an issue too.

I'll be back from work in about 12 hours - will begin then if you will allow it. I should have a look at a chinese map and refer to a large island off the coast of the mainland, not taiwan, if I cant find one Ill just make it up.

Marimaia's lands:

Thailand, Laos, Cambodia + the Shan State, Mon State, Tenasserim, Karen State and Kayah State regions of Burma (the Burmese areas will be offically annexed once the nation is stabilised and Suu Kyi becomes Burmese President...anyhoo)

Desired ties:

Marimaia wishes to establish a close relationship with the nations of Sangun and Chuang-Han out of ethnic closeness and the desire for a peaceful Indochina; Marimaia also wishes to heal the rifts with nations like East Islandia and Hudecia over Myanmar and the Dra-pol situation. In essence, with the taking of Myanmar, Marimaia has achieved all of her territorial goals and now wants to settle down.

Current ties:

Marimaia is a member of the 'Shining Sphere of Revolutionary Co-Prosperity', an alliance organisation which includes Dra-pol and Spyr (thread - http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=358998 )

Trade potential:

Marimaia's major industries include - Petroleum/natural gas (Sangun, we may have what you're after); mineral mining (rubies, sapphires, gold, etc.); electronic goods; automotive & aerospace vehicles; armaments; information technology; raw materials (inc. rubber, tin, tungsten, iron ore and others); fishing & agriculture; timber. We can also offer hydroelectric power deals to our neighbours.

We also offer great tourist destinations (due to relaxed attitudes on prostitution, public nudity, gambling and recreational drugs).

(OOC: I second Bedou's claims since I've RP'ed with him before; not much, but we have some of his people living in Marimaia. Under the new population figures I'd make it about 50,000 Bedou at the most in Marimaia.)

Dra-pol's extent: The Choson People's Republic covers the majority of the Korean peninsula, but is not in direct control of the far south, nor of the area around Hamhung and Hungnam. The Drapoel consider the entire peninsula to be Dra-pol, and view foreign occupation as nothing short of invasion.

Current ties: The Choson People's Republic of Dra-pol is party to the Shining Sphere of Revolutionary Co-Prosperity, an alliance linking her closely with the revolutionary nation states of Spyr and Marimaia.

Trade potential: Dra-pol controls significant mineral and raw material wealth in coal, lead, tungsten, zinc, graphite, magnesite, iron ore, copper, gold, and pyrites... the nation lacks valuable nuclear materials and fossil fuels, which it is always keen to acquire, along with foodstuffs. The supply of food has been a major problem ever since the Quinntonian annexation of the fertile ground beyond Hamhung's hills.
Essentially, the CPRD needs fuels and food, and produces several valuable minerals along with cheap armaments and, like Spyr, bicycles, several million of which have been exported.

OOC:Sorry I've been gone everyone, my computer is out of order for awhile and classes have just tarted over te past three weeks. This leaves me with lots of work, and a shitty keyboard at a public computer...which will explain ALL typeo's.

As for this Asian RP, North Yaman is included in that beautiful little oddity that is Lyong Peninsula. Right now we're cleaning up the region, we've had some nations that got deleted, so I believe we (The Lyong Treaty - Tord, Spyr, NY are still active) are getting ready to annex large parts of these shitty backwaters.

However, there seems to be some problems...for example the constant flow of newbies and puppet states wanting to set up in this new "Alternate history" Asia(look, I read too much Harry Turtledove...and this really is alternate history, as it is a modern day RL RP). I humbly suggest some rules sould be put down to stem this horde and ensure an interesting RP...for example, what does everyone think of NO PUPPETS. I'm sure that Turkmeny may be a good RPer, but anyone with TWO nations should be splitting their time between them...ergo chaos and ignoring our specifc RP area.

I would also suggest that we use one name to describe the new RL Asian RP...like Alternate History Asia, or something, just so we can be sure of what we are talkng on AND maintain an arrogant sense of exclusiveness!

I'm not sure who, generally, would accept these ideas...peraps just a yay or nay for the No Puppets idea, and a approval of whatever Asia name you guys want...

Now some NY info!

North Yaman, located in the central north of the Lyong Peninsula is roughly 22,000 km2; population estimates are still incomplete but could be as large as 15 million. The rough mountainous region makes agriculture a problem outside of the river valleys and the Lowland marshes, with the traditional tribes sticking with dairy cattle and some root vegetables. Mining extracts much in gold and oil, amongst other minerals. In terms of culture and language the populace is Animist Lyongian, and speaks the same language. The Sen is used, as in Spyr, but North Yaman is very weak in economy, unlike its neghbour.

Existing in tribal units split between nine clans and five priestly orders, the country has only recently embraced modernization and unification under the Socialist Federal Dominion, a Spyran backed Strainist revolution. The capital is based around the ancient shrine of Mioka-ro, this is the center of the SFD, along with their army; the Spearguard Command is based here. Arentaka is on the Ogawa river in the south, across the border from Helekar. Michi governs the river valley cities in the east, near the Spyran border. The mountain valley city of Shi-Daoken borders the ancient Kingdom of Dawi Grung in the north. The last neighbour, Kaioken, lies to the west.

The SFD has been a member state of the AA and only recently left. This leaves the country associated with the Lyong Treaty, the Strainist Congress and the new coalition, the Shining Sphere of Revolutionary Co-Prosperity(just use the SSRC).
Spyr
27-09-2004, 20:57
Spyr's food problems arent caused by communist policies... theyre caused by capitalist ones!

Its the bloody low-subsidy/zero tariff agri industry, making imported food cheaper, and in turn leading to young rurals migrating to cities because they can get better jobs there, in theory...

... and in practice, since all the really crappy jobs are filled by Tordian and Yamani immigrants earning citizenship.

Which leaves us with a pile of empty, unprofitable agricultural land. Not a massive pile, but a pile nonetheless.

Kosong rises

Once known as the open city before its brutal obliteration by Kilean and Joshuan missile attacks even prior to the nuclear attacks on Dra-pol, Kosong has lain silent for the better part of two years. An experiment first in the simple but long avoided practice of simple international trade, and later in a measure of capitalism, the city’s destruction by western nations came as a great surprise to Da’Khiem, which had expected it to be seen first as a favourable step, and second as a purely civilian target.

Today, the military cordon long maintained around the city was breached on Direction of Secretary Hotan.

A massive volume of heavy construction machinery and manpower began to filter into the dead city, hundreds of workers and materials having been gradually re-assigned by Dra-pol’s centrally planned economy to the task of re-building the Open City.

Da’Khiem announced that Kosong will in coming months operate a new programme of industrial and economic development, no longer called a mere experiment. Hotan is not what one could call touchy-feely, and only embarks upon enterprises with the full intention of seeing them to their specifically stated end. Exactly what that end may be is, in this case, a matter open to speculation and has not been declared by Da’Khiem. The Communist Party of Dra-pol says that Kosong will be opened to limited visitation and temporary residency by foreign nationals, where the rest of Dra-pol is strictly closed except in rare cases to specific diplomatic visitations.

This means that importers will no longer be forced to remain on their ships when delivering goods to the CPRD, and will be able to come ashore, making trade significantly less complicated.

Much more amazingly (foreigners were allowed ashore at Kosong during the Directorship of Kurosian I), Da’Khiem said that currency would be exchanged in the Open City, though it will at first be used in commerce carried out under direct state control. That is to say the Central Directorature shall set wages and prices. This is none the less a major departure, with the possibility of people acquiring what they want rather than what they need potentially opening the way for some recognisable consumer culture in the future. There seemed to be some hint that the direct state administration of trade may be a temporary measure, and Dra-pol may be allowing foreign companies to establish subsidiaries in Kosong.

There has also been speculation on the possibility of the western harbour-town of Haeju seeing similar reforms, perhaps along with a number of towns in the liberated south.

-Ulsan-

With the reopening of Kosong, thanks to Drapol benevolence, it gave the south a rare chance to breathe easy.

Hudecian military and political leaders never saw the use of destroying Kosong in the first place since it was symbolic of everything Hudecia stood for (in foreigner's eyes at least). In any case, it had been viewed as a collosal waste of ammunition since there were more pressing targets during the war.

In a clear statement reinforcing Hudecia's position on Kosong, the Hudecian president welcomed the reconstruction of Kosong. More so however, he apologized for being allied with those nation who sought to destroy the city. He pledged that not only would Hudecian and South Korean warships not interfere with the project city's trade, but promised that as long as its troops are stationed in Korea they would never attempt to obliterate the city as had been done before.

In a statement from the Spyran government, after a long-winded tirade against the 'ignorant enemies of all humanity' in the Kilean and POJ who ordered the city flattened for no apparent purpose, the reopening of Kosong is applauded in most glowing terms, with great hope for the opening of Dra-pol to the infinite benefits of the greater global economic world, and the prosperity such opening will bring. It is also stated that Spyr eagerly awaits the opening of ports such as Haeju, which will allow the flow of trade between the two peninsulas to expand for the benefit of all their nations.

-Busan-

The South Korea government was slow to react to the announcement of the reopening of Kosong, and when they did respond it was with muted pleasure.

According to South Korean logic, if Drapol could be kept busy experimenting with the wonders of capitalism, perhaps they would be too busy and have invested too much to attack the south again.

In any case, with less than 50 000 Hudecian troops, about 150 000 South Korean trainees, and whatever LRR troops remained, the security situation in the south was still desperate. They needed time to rebuild the navy, airforce and army properly.

Hudecian funding was also running out, but since tax collecting efforts had begun again, they were beginning to provide for themselves in some fields.

The government congratualtes on the reopening of Kusong. The news sparked interest throughout the trade system.

Mongolia is now an official SAR of China. Their former government remains as the ruling party. Major cities will recieve an extra budget due to the newer reforms which grants a larger share of taxes to cities themselves for development. Cities are said to have sprung suddenly to life over night.

The new tariffs rate allowed more interest in trade with the Chinese, imports and exports went up. The production rate and the labor force was growing enormously. All areas were allowed to raise spending.

[OOC: fearfully imagines a Sinoese perspective on Chuang-Han foreign policy.... "Chuang Han China, consumed with a burning spirit of Chinese nationalism, willfully annexes itself into Sino, and both states launch NBC weapons to destroy LRR. China for the Sino-supporting Chinese! Death to all liberals!"]

Eeek!

On Korea, the LRRMFs presence has diminished visibly. Only a handful of Super Gripens patrol southern skies, and if Dra-pol ever was to try a final push, the LRRAF in korea would have to rely on reinforcements from the mainland.

Fortunately for their pilots, the Super Gripen was small enough to manouver with any Dra-pol fighter, and still had the range of a much larger aircraft and respectable weapons capacity. Along with the Super Viggen and the handful of 5th generation fighter/interceptors operated by the LRRAF to prove that it has uBERpOWN3Z0rFiGHTRJTZ, the Dra-pol airforce would probably meet a loty of trouble in the air.

On the water, the LRRN crews are able to do quite a bit in the way of strategy with the ROKN's Sea Eagle patrol boats and smaller vessels, as well as the larger ships. In the LRRN, the Son House missile boat, 40 meters in length, is the dominant craft when it comes to coastal defense, and there is no way the ROKN is getting any. With a 55 knot top speed and a superlow draft, the LRRN simply does not give any away. However, the ROKA does get some old Nanuchkas and a few of the older model Grishas.
