OOC: Land claims are in regards to the "RL world" maintained in this thread:
http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=358713&page=1&pp=15
Claims on similar territory on other "worlds" are neither recognized nor threatened.
IC: A secret meeting in a seemingly abandoned warehouse in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Dark Figure #1: Well, what are we supposed to do about it?
Dark Figure #2: Yeah, they're closing down our schools and churches, taxing our businesses into oblivion, and monitoring our activities constantly.
Dark Figure #3: They say we're stupid hicks and that they won't waste money educating us or our children. When one of them told me that, I showed him a map and asked him to find Indiana. He pointed at a spot. Problem was, it was a map of Africa.
DF2: That's the trouble. It's they who are the uneducated ones, they who have been oppressive.
Dark Figure #4: Well, why don't we just fight back?
DF1: Fight? How?
DF4: We have...backers. Some people who are as dismayed by what's been going on here as we are, and are willing to help us take back our land.
Dark Figure #5: Our benefactors have provided some of us with weapons and training. All they ask in return is that we liberate ourselves from these tyrants.
DF2: Why? Why do they care?
DF4: They apparently don't like our government officers any more than we do.
DF5: That's why we called you here. We need to know if you're in.
DF3: I have nothing left to lose. I'm in.
DF1: To take our country back, I'm in.
DF2: Let's do it.
DF4: Good. Gather any friends and family, anybody who might sympathize with us, and let's get this started.

Late night news broadcast in Rochester, Minnesota
"This is an urgent news bulletin. The police station on Brown Street is under heavy fire from several unidentified gunmen. Residents are being asked to avoid the area..."
The anchorwoman cupped her hand over her earpiece. "Now I'm receiving word that the police station at 5th and Market is also under attack...and so is the station at Elm and Lyon...and now we have reports of patrol cars being stopped on the street by more gunmen...and..."
A male voice offscreen, yelled, "Everybody, hands in the air!" The woman on the screen raised her hands above her head.
"We don't want to hurt anybody, and hopefully all of you can be back with your families soon, but right now we need you to do as we say, understand? OK, good. Everyone up against the wall here." The woman got up and walked off screen, as per the orders.
A man walked on screen, turned to face the camera. "Sorry about this folks," he said, before the signal was shut off and the screen went black.

"All squads are reporting in, sir. Law enforcement has been contained, and all local media outlets are under our control. Patrols are being set up to prevent looters and maintain order."
"Good." Commander Ted Girouard of the Minnesotan Will of the People was pleased things were going well. The last part about the patrols was crucial. When all this was over and they were in control of the whole state, the people still needed their livelihood intact. Oppressive leftist governments had moved in and taken control in the wake of right-wing governments taking over on the coasts, and they needed to be overthrown, but the future of their states needed to be preserved also.
"I'm getting the news feed back up, sir. We've got success in all states. We've taken a city in each one."
The commander took a look at the news report. What the government media in each state was calling "rebel forces", the other arms of the Will of the People, had indeed gained control of their target cities. He hadn't known which cities were targeted--a precautionary measure in case they were captured--so he was curious as to which cities they were. They were the following:
Rochester, Minnesota (obviously)
Ames, Iowa
Green Bay, Wisconsin
Benton Harbor, Michigan
Carbondale, Illinois
Kokomo, Indiana
Younstown, Ohio

Throughout the night, men and women employed by Will of the People were converting factories in the captured towns. By early morning, the several factories were ready. They began production of heavier equipment. They obviously had the attention of the state governments by now, and would soon be facing a larger scale counterattack. They would need to assemble heavier weaponry and equipment to combat them.
Rebel hydrofoils, each equipped with one medium-calibre gun, were being launched from Green Bay and Benton Harbor by late morning. They began subduing the few scattered patrols from Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. With Lake Michigan under their control, they would soon be able to take the rest of its coast.

OOC: Green Bay went fairly quickly, minimal bloodshed, and I think statist forces will soon have their hands full elsewhere. The fabled "frozen tundra" would seem to be safe. Besides, doesn't the name suggest that I might want to protect the football stadiums? :)
OOC: Why Ames, IA, I live in Ames! Or should I clarify, why other than it being a Big 10 Team?
OOC: Please clarify the rebels government they wish to establish.

Save 'em all, I don't think it would make that much of a difference, give the fields to the college teams.
OOC: I've claimed NW Indiana and all of Illinois on the Earth II thread and am trying to secure it along with Israel on the one you posted a link to.
Do you want me involved in this RP?

Possible, but we are a relatively new team (we lost a few of our best guys in my eyes [Gilbert Brown]) but I am sure we will be more organized and trained by the next game.
UPDATED OOC: I got to log off for the moment, but I will check this thread again.

In Ohio, the newly re-armed rebel militias fanned out from Youngstown. For a few days, they were bottled in by National Guardsmen from Cleveland, Akron and Canton, but with the Will of the People growing by the day, those cities eventually fell. Many of the guardsmen switched sides, while others retreated toward the west and south. The rebels began asserting control over a significant portion of the state, taking Medina, Wooster, Elyria, Lorain, Sandusky, Massilon, and New Philadelphia. Then must of their forces began travelling down I-71 toward Columbus.
In Indiana, the Will of the People similarly fanned out from Kokomo, taking Marion, Peru, Wabash and Logansport. They ran into some resistance in Lafayette and West Lafayette, but quickly subdued the Guardsmen there (and Purdue University was largely spared from combat). The rebels were now heading north toward Plymouth and Warsaw, and southward, approaching Carmel, a town right at the doorstep of Indianapolis.
In Illinois, the rebels were only encountering tepid resistance. They knew that that would change once they started approaching the larger cities to the north: Decatur, Champaign and the capital, Springfield.
In Minnesota, the National Guardsmen had surrounded Rochester. The rebels were holding, but with limited supplies they were concerned about how long they could hold out.
In Iowa, the rebels made a beeline toward Des Moines. They'd caught the Iowa National Guard off guard, and quickly forced a surrender from the premier. Although there were still pockets of resistence in other cities, the Will of the People had gained control of the state very quickly.

OOC: Uh, you do understand this...isn't real life, right? :p
I'm operating from an alternate history here, I guess. The states are individual nations and fairly authoritarian. The Will of the People's government will be pretty much centrist and democratic.
And yeah, I'm including Iowa pretty much because of the Big Ten theme. :D

OOC Note: It's been decided that the Illinois and Indiana represented here are different than those owned by IDF.
IC: With control of Lake Michigan secured, rebel armies had proceeded out of Green Bay and Benton Harbor, meeting only tepid resistence. Soon, the rebel forces were converging on Chicago.
The Illinois and Indiana National Guards had banded together in a coordinated effort to stop the rebels from reaching the cities of Chicago and Gary. What few tanks they had were out along with the many soldiers, several lines sitting on the north and east sides of Chicago, and more on the shore to prevent an attack from the sea.
The rebel armies arrived and heavy fire was exchanged. For hours, neither side gained ground, until the National Guardsmen overheard the command over rebel channels.
What did they say? they wondered. I? Eye? Aye?
Unbeknownst to the Guardsmen, thousands of the rebels recruits lie in wait within the cities. Upon receiving the command "Ai", they took up their arms and took over the cities from within. Within a day, the Guardsmen found themselves trapped between rebel forces from outside and inside the cities.
The battle east of Gary ended quickly. The Indiana commander negotiated a surrender to the rebel forces. North of Chicago, however, the fighting continued for another day, until what was left of the Illinois Guardsmen retreated westward, leaving Chicago in the hands of the Will of the People.

In Ohio, the Will of the People forces were continuing mostly unabated along the Lake Erie coast. Sandusky had fallen quickly, and forces were nearing Toledo. However, the drive toward Columbus was meeting fierce resistence. The Ohio National Guardsmen had formed a line starting at Marion, going through Mount Vernon and on to Cochocton, and had, for now, stopped the rebels' advance. Will of the People commander Jim Tressel was patient, however. Even though the National Guard had called in support from the military airfield in Dayton, he believed that with the most concentrated industrial center in Ohio now churning out tanks and other heavy equipment and with a wide network of spies and sabateurs working behind enemy lines, that his superior ground attack and "special teams" would eventually win out.
In Indiana, Commander Joe Tiller had outfitted captured helicopters for use in strafing runs. Unlike the Ohio Guardsmen, the Indiana military had no defense against this aerial assault. In a matter of a few days, his forces had gained control of most of Northern Indiana, with only Fort Wayne and the South Bend/Mishiwaka/Elkhart area holding out.
Meanwhile, Commander Gerry DiNardo waged an all-out assault on Indianapolis and the surrounding area. While National Guardsmen were still keeping the Will of the People outside of the Highway 465 "circle", DiNardo's forces had gained much of the surrounding area: Carmel, Brownsburg, Plainfield, Greenfield, Lawrence and Greenwood had been taken.
In Illinois, the National Guardsmen were making a last stand in the central part of the state. Ron Turner's forces now had firm control of the south and were knocking on the door at Springfield, Decatur and Champaign. Meanwhile, Commander Randy Walker had begun his campaign, moving out from Chicago to take Rockford, Peoria, Moline and Bloomington, and were approaching Springfield and Champaign also.
In Michigan, the Will of the People's forces had divided in two. Commander John L Smith had taken Grand Rapids and was advancing westward on Highway 96 toward Lansing. Meanwhile, the other half of the rebels' forces were moving east on Highway 94, taking Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. Next stop was Ann Arbor. Commander Lloyd Carr was looking forward to getting to Ann Arbor. He couldn't quite figure out why, but it just seemed right somehow for him to be there.
Meanwhile, Barry Alvarez led his forces from Chicago back into Wisconsin. With the Lake Michigan coast under control, he led his army northwest toward the state captial of Madison.
With nothing left in Iowa except a few "mop up" jobs here and there to weed out loyalists of the old regime, Commander Kirk Ferentz moved some of his army into Minnesota, quickly taking Mankato and preparing to mount a counter-attack on the Minnesotan army surrounding Rochester. Glen Mason's soldiers were still hanging in there, but couldn't hold out forever.

As the Iowans Will of the People army apprached Rochester, they began firing on the Minnesota National Guardsmen. There were several days of fierce fighting, but soon the Guardsmen started taking heavy losses. One third of the men and equipment were captured, the rest fleeing north to make a stand in Minneapolis and St Paul.

Ohio: Will of the People saboteurs were successful in getting behind enemy lines and doing damage to Guardsmen bombers and fighter-bombers. The Guardsmen air forces were cut to barely over half their original strength. Meanwhile, Tressel's army was beginning to approach Columbus.
Indiana: Tiller's army had taken most of northern Indiana, save for the South Bend-Mishiwaka-Elkhart area. There, he faced legendary Indiana Guardsmen general Tyrone Willingham. Meanwhile, DiNardo's army, after several days of fighting, had gained control of Indianapolis and had captured most of the Indiana government officials. Now there was very little standing in the way of DiNardo taking the southern part of the state.
Michigan: Carr's forces had taken Ann Arbor and set up a command center in that city. From there, they would mount an attack into Detroit's western suburbs. At the same time, Smith had taken Lansing and Flint, and was now beginning an attack on Waterford and Pontiac. The Michigan government had fled Lansing and had set up in downtown Detroit, but were now trapped in the city.

As the combined Will of the People forces of Iowa and Minnesota approached the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, operatives within the cities were circulating pamphlets with the following message:
My friends,
As we are preparing to liberate your city, let me reassure you that we mean you no harm. No doubt you have heard your government say many things about who we are and what we are about. They lie to you out of desperation and out of habit.
We are not here to set up a fascist regime. We fight for our freedom and yours against a regime that, in its zeal to rid itself of "fascists" has become fascist themselves.
We are not here to set up a theocracy. We have no desire to deny anyone the right to vote or to hold office because of his or her religion. Instead, we fight against a regime that has banned those professing religious convictions from office and has restricted their ability to vote, all in a twisted devotion to the principle of "separation of church and state".
We have simply had enough. Enough of a regime that in its greed has taxed and taxed and taxed us until we can barely get by on our real wages. Enough of a government that sees those that take their religious beliefs seriously as backward and dangerous, rather than citizens and contributors. Enough of a regime that tells women what drugs to take, whom they may associated with, and when they can have children, all in the interest of "protecting women's rights". Enough of a government that calls its citizens "backward" and "ignorant" and which has squelched any sort of open debate.
We fight to restore our freedoms. We will take anyone who will join us in this fight. To those who cannot or will not fight, we ask only that you do your best to stay out of harm's way. We will do our best to win the fight quickly, so that you can soon go on with your lives and that we can get to the business of making your lives better.
OCC Note: Again, this is a somewhat alternate history, and the government represented here is not meant to reflect any past or present government of or in the United States.

A report from the newly established Radio Free Indiana, the voice of the Will of the People braodcasting out of Indianapolis:
With this Radio Free Indiana breaking news alert, I'm Leelee Hamden.
Will of the People Commander Joe Tiller has announced that a cease fire agreement has been reached, and that Indiana Guard General Tyrone Willingham and his forces in and around South Bend have surrendered. A statement released by Willingham says that at this point, the victory of the Will of the People has become inevitable, and that the wisest course of action would be to stop the bloodshed, if allowed, to help to guide the Will of the People away from any oppressive tendencies and toward making Hoosiers safer and more free. Willingham and his men have been formally incarcerated, they are expected to be released on their own recognisance once an end to major fighting has been declared.
With this Radio Free Indiana breaking news alert, I'm Leelee Hamden.
