The Blooded Lands

Even from the outside the din of children could be heard from the one story stone building. A fairly young woman can be seen nearly running down the leading dirt path towards the building, clad in a fairly simple dress she rushes up its few steep steps to the molded wooden door.
The doors moan as she shoves them aside, and the roaring din from within drops to a sudden and stony silence. Within the stone structure a cozy room is found, with two fire places blazing merrily against the morning chill, whitewashed walls, a chalkboard, desk and row after row of desk benches.
“Good morning Ms. Elysian,” the children cry out in unison. An odd assortment, wearing clothing from handspun cotton dresses to silken vests.
“Good morning class, may the Goddess bless each of your hearts, you beat me today you’ve earned that extra break later today, but first. Who can tell me where we last left off?” Ms. Elysian inquired. A small boy, dressed in a gray tunic stands up, “Yes Parsm?”
“You were teaching us our history, ma’am.” The small child replied.
“Of course, adjust your textreaders to page 75…”
A Brief History of the Blooded Lands:
In the beginning, there was sea, then the Goddess, our Great Lord, descended from above. She was wounded, scarred from the lost of her Second Born (pg 42). Using her blood she forged our land, made is sweet and soft. With her tears of sorrow she carved our rivers, which gave life to out land. With the shedding down she created us, in the image of the First and Second Born (pg 12).
With the creation complete she set about on our leader, plucking the brightest feather from her coat, she breathed our Speaker (pg 25), whom has been with us since.
Or so the old story goes. From what we have derived from both Earth and Water mage and from the rare chance of talking to the Goddess herself that the land was created around 312 AD, from a sudden bursting of a volcanic bubble on the ocean floor. As to the rest, only the Speaker and the Goddess know, and they are not talking.
With the Speaker leading us we quickly advanced technologically, assisted by her magic and the mages (for further information about speed refer to chart B on pg 108).
The Dividing
As time went on, subcultures began to form within certain areas of the land. This was not a problem for the Speaker whom kept the faith of the Goddess across the cultures. However, the idea of homogeneous society was not attractive to all. This is one of the main driving points of the Dividing. Rallying behind strong voices the lands were partitioned among seven distinct groups, which now form our modern day princedoms (see map for names).
However, as with most “countries” each land was not satisfied with their partition, war broke out. The Weaver War, which many think was inspired by demons, was nothing more than a land grab. However, out of this unnecessary conflict arose our modern weapons. Forged by some of the greatest mages we have ever known (pg 173) the “stick” was born. An enchanted stick usually made of wood, fires opposing energy types (earth and air, fire and water), which upon striking a target react violently. Though swords were and are still used they are more for show than purpose.
The war threatened to consume the lands, until the Speaker decided it had lasted to long. Gathering religious commoners from ever subculture she endowed them with power from all four elements, she trained them in the arts, as well as the blade. With these few hundred young men the first Paladins were formed. Wielding their magic and their blades they were sent to seek peace. And peace they found, thought not after a few more major (and pointless battles), leaving us with our modern boarders.
Modern History
Within the past fifty years has come the greatest change since the Dividing. Our land has been concealed from the sea by a curtain of mist, which from the outside shows only Open Ocean. However, it has failed, and today we can finally see the endless expanse around us. Yet, it also has led us into contact with the Elder children (First and Second Born), which whom have given us references that we never had access to before. This event, the Falling of the Veil, has, for now, unified our once divided lands.
“…I think that will be enough reading for now,” chimed Ms. Elysian, “How about I let you take that break you won?”
A cheer resounded across the room as they raced outside.
