Today, the Republic of Mac Cumhail declared the first of the modernized RFMC (Republican Fianna of Mac Cumhail) organisations operational. The 1st Republican Infantry Brigade was declared "combat ready" at 1400 hours, Mac Cumhail local time.
Consisting of 5 full "Rifleman" (essentially light infantry) Regimental Combat Teams, the Brigade is a fairly straightforward military force. Each RCT fields three battalions of light infantry supported by an artillery battalion. The Infantry are equipped with the usual assortment of assault rifles, light machine guns, and light anti-armour weaponry, while the artillery forces rely on fixed artillery emplacements with a mixture of long and short ranged weaponry.
"We're quite proud of these men and women. They've been training dedicatedly together for a year since their initial drop camp, and we feel they're as prepared as we can possibly ask for short of actual combat experience," said Prime Minister Sean Dempsey in his address.
The RFMC plans to ultimately expand the brigade (which is intended to be the backbone of the revitalized RFMC) into a full Division within the next decade. It is expected that the next unit to go operational will be the Republican Reserve Cavalry brigade, which is expected to become the RMFC's primary heavy armoured force.
