Reborn Free Peoples
20-09-2004, 20:55
OOC: This is an RP of events that technically have already taken place. This RP is about the collapse of my previous nation "People who are Free" (which was deleted due to inactivity) and the rise of my current nation "Reborn Free Peoples." The RP is completely open, though I prefer it if you t-gram me in advance if you are planning any major action, and it wouldn't really make sense for me to be completely erradicated as I have already created this new nation. So, please don't totally wipe out my country and take over my land...:)

"This just in. In an exclusive report by Free Action News, we have learnt that the controversial bill before the Free Peoples Parliament, the "Freedom Protection Act" has been passed by a vote of 57% in favor. Opposition leader John Mardok has the following comments"
"I am simply appauled by the actions that this government has taken recently. They have used their majority power over this government to give themselves complete power, removing the political power that was given to the people in the democratic revolutions years ago. Our party will not accept this final act and is calling upon the other parties in the Parliament to help us in enacting the Governmental Recall Act and force an election"
-----
"Force an Election! Damn! This man is trying to destroy our country! How can he be willing to sacrifice the freedom of this nation for a chance at political power" shouted Chief of State Thomas Handsworth.
"Can he even do that? You only recently took power. What are the conditions of the GRA?" asked one of Handsworth's younger advisors.
"The GRA requires that a period of 2 months passes after an election. It also requires the authorization of all opposition parties, and at least 40% of the parliament to pass the act. We control 62% so as long as we get 60% + 1 of our members to vote against it, he hasn't got a chance" replied the Party Whip, James Orthon.
"Yes, but how confident are you that you can get that 60% on an issue like this." snapped Handsworth.
"Our party may not be as united as the others, but they don't want to lose the power they have now...we'll be fine" replied Orthon.
-----
"Have the other parties signed the authorization?" asked John Mardok.
"Well, they are all worried about the kind of recognition that you will get from leading this kind of radical action. They think that you will end up as Chief of State. They've signed, but we have have some trouble with them later." replied his Chief Aide.
"Okay, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. What else is required to enact the GRA?"
"You need a 40% majority in the Representatives Board and at least one member from each region to approve the act in the Executive Council"
"Do we have any friends on the Executive Council?"
"Yes, the representatives from the North and South Regions as well as the Capital Region and the Outlands, but the East Region and the Midlands are associated with other opposition parties"
"Alright, talk to them and see if they're willing to go with us. What else do we need?"
"That's it, but we may need foreign support if the Government rejects the act. We could end up in civil war."
"We have to be careful to avoid that, no one wants a civil war"
OOC: I know there's not much for others to get involved in yet, but i promise that things will get more interesting.
