--Election Special--
Hello once again, I'm Don Everns coming to you live from the Royal Congressional Complex. The recent dissolution of the Royal House of Representatives has thrown the political landscape here in Hamptonshire completely on its head. Isn't that right, Rick?
Yes, Don. Even though the House is the weaker of the two chambers, Prime Minister Olendorf would certainly get a boost of NURP could pick up more seats.
As always, Rick is right. If NURP comes away from this election with a majority in the House, the Prime Minister's Hamptonshire First Policy stands a more than fair chance of being implimented.
Yes, but if the Unity Coalition manages an upset we could see his Policy derailed or even Olendorf's resignation.
I think that this reporter can safely say that Hamptonshire hasn't seen an election of this importance in quite some time.
That's right Don. This special election could very well determine our nation's path for a generation to come.
Too true, Rick, too true...and that's why we're here to help you. We will be showing you some information about the five major parties of Hamptonshire and over the next week HNN will be bringing you live debates between the highest ranking members of the competing parties.
(Information on each party comes up on the screen)
Nationalist Union Party
Party Secretary: Senator Bernard Allenby, President of the Royal Congress (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/p_joachim_ribbentrop1.jpg)
Highest Ranking Member: Prime Minister Chester Olendorf (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/Neville_Chamberlain1.jpg)
Coalition: Nationalist Union/Republic Party, popularily referred to as NURP.
Platform: The Nationalist Union Party is a right wing, conservative party. Focused on national defense, national security, and nationalist foreign policy. The cornerstone of the Nationalist Union is the proposed "Hamptonshire First Policy". Ranging from domestic issues to foreign relations, the "Hamptonshire First Policy" seeks to make Hamptonshire into a first rate power, at nearly any cost.
Positives: Enjoys the support of nearly 2/5ths of the electorate, the loyality of most Royal Armed Forces officers, and NURP politicans are known foor their powerful oratory skills.
Negatives: While the mainstream of the Party is reasonable, the far right wing faction of the Party is highly militaristic and xenophobic.
Republic Party
Party Secretary: Governor Joseph Fredericks (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/ChretienStorm01.jpg)
Highest Ranking Member: Congressman Kyle Franks, Speaker of the Royal House of Representatives (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/pic1.jpg)
Coalition: Nationalist Union/Republic Party, popularily referred to as NURP.
Platform: The Republic Party is a centre-right, "Compassionate Progressive" party. While originally formed as a party devoted to the destruction of the monarchy, the Republic Party's mainstream has taken a decidedly softer stand, the creation of a Constitutional Monarchy with a figurehead Grand Duke. The Republic Party is the junior NURP Coalition member, and has adopted nearly all the polices of its larger patner. However, these two parties differ in one major aspect, the Republic Party favors the continuation of government sponsored social programs with the Nationalist Union Party supports the dissolution of all such programs.
Positives: Enjoys the support of many so called "Protectorate Hamptonians"- Citizens of Hamptonshire that don't actually live in Hamptonshire Proper.
Negatives: Strongly dislikes and is disliked by royalists and moderates alike.
Central Coalition Party
Party Secretary: Senator Henry Flint (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/petewilson.jpg)
Highest Ranking Member: Lord Phillip Rosecrans, Defense Minister (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/rosecrans.jpg)
Coalition: Unity Coalition
Platform: The aptly named Central Coalition Party is a centrist, progressive moderate party. It is focused on law and order and domestic issues. Both its supports and detractors call it the "Status Quo" Party. Up until quite recently, the Central Coalition was the most powerful and respected Party in Hamptonshire. Due to the changing international landscape and a lack of charisma among its Congressional Leaders, the Central Coalition Party has been losing ground to the more 'populist' parties.
Positives: Nearly the entire government bureaucracy and most of the Royal Family are members or supporters of the Central Coalition Party. Voters always know that they can rely upon the steadiness of the CC.
Negatives: Due to the centrist nature of the Central Coalition and the lack of charismatic figures, the Party is fast losing ground to the NURP Coalition.
New Frontier Party
Party Secretary: Governor Norman Koines (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/governor.jpg)
Highest Ranking Member: Currently no outstanding members of this party. The most recent Foreign Minister, Lord Patrick Easton (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/000005258_sxswbartleby1x.jpg), is a member of the New Frontier Party.
Coalition: Unity Coalition
Platform: Formed by the combination of the centre-left Union Democrats and the leftist Labor Parties, the New Frontier Party is Hamptonshire's only left leaning political party. They seek to place an income tax on the population (Hamptonshire currently has no income tax) to pay for a wide range of social programs. New Frontier pushes for a decrease in the funding for the Royal Armed Forces and increased regulation of business.
Positives: Widely admired as an idealistic party, New Frontier is the champion of Hamptonshire's lower classes.
Negatives: Only 4% of the population falls under the category of "Lower Classes".
Popular Party
Party Secretary: Congressman Jacob Astor (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/aznar__145x200propertyBild.jpg)
Highest Ranking Member: Daniel Pederson, Transport and Commerce Minister (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/hamptonshire/frist.jpg)
Coalition: People's Front (formed with small parties and Independents)
Platform: The Popular Party is a centre-right, moderate conservative party. Focused mainly on business issues and smaller government. It is the choice of conservative voters who don't like the nationalism and militarism of the Nationalist Union and who do not support the anti-monarchy platform of the Republic Party. The Popular Party is a libertarian-type party, they support the idea that the people best know how to run their own affairs.
Positives: Favorite party of Hamptonshire's businessmen and women. Its libertarian policies have started to attract the youth.
Negatives: The Popular Party's waivering support of the Royal Armed Forces and its oppositon to a draft under any circumstance run contrary to traditional Hamptonian patriotism.
Well, Don, for better or worse those are our choices.
I'd like to thank Rick for coming by the studio. HNN will be keeping you updated all this week on the election.
Goodnight and a good tomorrow.
OOC: I'll come out and say this right now, the format of this post and thread were inspired by Granzi's recent election post. You can ask questions for the next week and each of the five parties will give you an answer. As for as the poll goes, the results will count not only as a foreign endorcement but as "Absentee Ballots". While the percentages will change, the ratio established in 1 RL week of voting will most likely stay in place.
