After five years of service, it has been determined that UMACs CAS-870 serries of shotgun is in need of replacing. The ICSPECWARCOM, IAN, and IAF all require new weapons to replace their outdated CAS-870s.
The CAS-870, produced by Imitora's United Military Arms Corporation, was based on the Remington 870 chasis, with modifications made by UMAC. However, UMAC will not be the only one submitting bids. All arms manufacturing corporations are welcome to submit a bid. The following parameters are the only required for pre test:
Military Submitions:
The shotgun must be automatic, with the ability to hold seven rounds (one in the chamber, six in the magazine), and have at least one rail interface unit for the attachemnt of reflex and holosights. It must have a pistol grip style stock, and fire the 12ga round. It must be able to handle both shotshell rounds and solid slug rounds. Stock can be collapsable or solid.
UMAC has submitted a design based on the Benelli M4 shotgun, now titled the UMAC CAS-400. Cost per shotgun is $2,900 per weapon, and once other submitions are made, the testing for the military weapon will start.
However, the military isn't the only one looking for a new shotgun. The Northern Provinces Carabineri is also looking for a new shot gun. It finds that the CAS-870, while reliable, isn't well suited for their requirements. The following requirements are made for the Carabineri weapon:
The shotgun can be automatic, however, they prefere it to be a pump action. It muse be able to hold 6 rounds (one in the chamber, five in the mag), and be lightweight, and have a system to prevent snags on the pump action. It must be able to accept both solid slug and shotshell rounds in either 12ga or 20ga.
UMAC has submitted a desing based on Benelli's Nova Pump chasis, but with modification to hold more rounds, and slight other modification to the weapon. Again, this is open for other designs, and teh awarded contract will be for slightly over 2.5million of shotguns.
