This is an RP I'm starting for people who have never done an RP before, like me. Anyone can join, as long as you've never done an RP in NationStates before. Tell me if you're in!

Also, it would be nice if there were one or two experienced RPers who would be willing to play and help everybody else learn.

I would like to join in the RP too... my first attempt at RPing went all wrong, so I would really like to learn on how to RP properly.

I really wasn't expecting this to be all that popular, but yes, you can all join.

The current list of people who are in this RP is as follows: Jjuulliiaann, Kryozerkia, Greater Evermore, AeroSpaceCity, Kill the commie, Cam III, Taldaan, GnosticAgnostic Theist, Estholad, The Chozo, Nathan F. That is 11 people. Also, please note that Kryozerkia and Cam III are not beginners; they are here to help everyone else. I will call them "The Helpers" from now on.

If you do decide to let anyone else into the RP, I'm interested, but I don't mind if I'm left out.
I just think that more RPs for beginners should be set up. It's cool that all these people are getting real in-depth with their countries, but I can't see myself taking the time to plot out my entire country's military or make a detailed map of it. More RP threads for the more inexperienced, casual gamer would be a definite plus.

Yes, I was surprised to learn when I first started checking out the forums that there were no RPs for beginners.

I agree. My country is not a new one, but I have yet to do any sort of serious RP with it. I'd really like to get involved in the RP aspect of NationStates, so if a few more slots open up, I know I'd be interested. Just send me a telegram if I'm in, but if I'm not, then I won't be heartbroken.

Yes, now there is room for everybody. Unfortunately, I won't be able to TG anybody, ever, because so many more people have signed up for this than I expected. Sorry, but you will just have to keep on checking back here to see if anything has happened. Right now we're getting about one new player every five minutes (or so it seems) so it would take me hours to TG everybody with any updates. My e-mail inbox is already filled! This is so cool! Lol.

I'd say you're safe, this is your thread. I doubt the NS mods will really mind even if it is against the rules, they seem fair people and they won't ban you for it.

I know that you said no more helpers but there are also a lot more newbs than you expected. I check NS about 5 times a day and i'm not involved in many RP's. Therefore I can join and will be glad to help wherever possible. I also notice that only one of the three helpers has actually posted since requesting to become a helper.

Im pretty sure that this rp would start as soon as someone (suppose being it you, helpers) decides the beginning situation for this rp. Since were newbs you can't count on us knowing what to rp about :rolleyes:

IC: The Sanctaphrax docks were full of ships of all descriptions, from aircraft carriers to subs, they were being refitted for a possible breakout of war. The nation of Cam III had long been threatening to Sanctaphrax and finally it had come to a head. A Cam spy had been caught in Sanctaphrax and a telegram had been sent demanding immediate response. The army were being equipped, bombers performed short practice runs. Sanctaphrax would be ready. 50 Eurofighters were patrolling the skies over Sanctaphrax in case of an enemy attack. Cruise missiles were readied for launch. No WMD's were to be used as Sanctaphrax was strictly against them.

There are waaaaaaay too many people in this RP. It is only one day old and there are already over 6 pages of posts. Also, I think that there are a few people in it who are not beginners. This should stop.

Here's an idea. Cam III vs. Sanphrax (or whatever it is) should be only one in a series of "RPs for Beginners". We could start a big series of them. Just make sure to include "An RP for Beginners" in the title of your thread if you start one. But if you do want to start one, make sure that you discuss it here first.

I think it is an amazing idea that I had originally. I'm surprised that no one had thought of it before me.

I don't think that this RP is what I intended it to be. It really doesn't feel like a newb RP. Everyone is getting really in-depth and serious about it. It was really just supposed to be a friendly place where newbs could learn to RP. That's really not what it is right now. :mad:

They are learning how to RP really well. It is friendly and besides, of course thy're getting serious, they want to learn to RP.

Pronounced Santaphrax.
If you've read the Edge chronicles (books, very good books) then you'll know how to spell it. I have no tips on how to remember it. If it's too complicated then Sancta is fine.

Amen to that. I'm in, but we need to set up some CLEAR rules on what can and cannot happen, and enforce those rules fiercely. If we have the same crew from last time, we might end up with the same result- a stagnant, impossible RP, which started with an undefeatable armada (no offense to Cam, it was just straight flawed against the little man) and gave us new RPers little to no choices for action.

Also, I believe we should properly define the boundaries of modern tech and explain how your government model plays a direct part in your military actions- i.e. a weak economy cannot produce 100,000 ICBMs or maintain a sizeable navy, and an anarchist nation could not possibly have any form of organized military. This could be facilitated by each country producing its own set of stats (including terrain, major cities, intelligence equipment, military capabilities- active branches of the military) and describe weaknesses of their style of government or society. Even though it may seem like you are revealing too much vital information, it will help to keep things uniform and realistic (to prevent 'surprise' weapons and tactics).

And maybe introducing the fact that this is all for fun, and winning is not always the point might help. Keeping yourself alive at all costs, in the NS sense, should come second to the quality of the overall RP. What's a war without death?

Being an RP newbie, I really don't know the physics or 'turns' of war. Maybe one of the more experienced RPers could enlighten us on when attacks can be circumvented (countering or partially countering an attack) and when we should just take our lumps.

Dunno. Personally, I think that a set of 1v1 wars would better acclimate us to RPing... more like a learning experience, which this should be. If the 1v1s are successful, we may step up the difficulty by introducing allies.

Also, I don't think that it is fair that your two RPs were won by default, because these nations now will be starting the semi-finals with no damage.

I totally lost track of this. In each of my RPs one guy didn't turn up, and OS never started his RP.

Anyway... Why not let everyone recover? Otherwise you could fight a load of weak nations and win despite being weakest.

Though TBH winnignreally isnt the point.

Its about drawing history for your nation. As Cam, I hope will soon have a huge but bloody defeat in the OS system very soon. I hope. But the point is that while Cam hopefully wont win. His nation will be cagier and more agressive but will also have scars and veterans of this conflict, and lessons learnt. And history. hell he could RP a switch of emporers after this! Or A new era.

the point is that his nation may have lose or win, but its historic. Something more to add in future into his RPs (ie veterans of the war or the few remaining vessels being historic and so almost characters of their own)

In the end all that matter is your character (in this case your nation) developes and grows. Thats the joy of NS or any RP.
