OOC: Favorite Defense Websites

Defense websites, can't live, research RP technology or RP without them! For pictures, weapons R&D and RP ideas I often use the following:

http://www.sinodefence.com/ (I've sort of named my country after it. LOL!)

http://english.pladaily.com.cn/ (Where I get some my pictures for RPs.)

http://www.china-defense.com/ (Very comprehnsive articles.)

http://mil.jschina.com.cn/huitong/index.html (Good information and images for my Air Force and Navy.)

NEW Addition: http://www.israeli-weapons.com (Detailed information on Israeli weapons, multimedia samples too.)

http://www.globalsecurity.org/ (THE most comprehesive of defense information. Incredibly wideranging and indepth.)

http://www.fas.org (Same as Global Security in many aspects of the weapons section as both are maintained by the same Mr. John Pike. When the pictures of links in Global Security don't work, try identical pages in FAS.)

http://world.guns.ru/ (Good place to find information and pictures regarding small arms.)

http://www.warlink.com/ (A comprehensive collections of Chinese weapons and military history articles.)

http://www.zgjunshi.com/ (Another Chinese website devoted to defense.)

http://www.aeronautics.ru/ (One of the best websites regarding military aircraft.)

http://www.google.com (You'd stupid if you don't know the world's greatest search engine!)

What are some of your favorites?

Everything you just listed :D.

I've been having trouble finding a website to use to build the armies of one of my 'puppets' (I say 'puppets' because this is more like a puppet, and I don't like that term anyway as it implies one nation is controlling another), but now I've got a ruck. Cheers!

May I ask of what culture/race is your puppet? Some of the Chinese links are not suitable.

No I know, but the ones that aren't Chinese-specific are very useful. Heck, even the Chinese ones could be of some small use.

Heh, that's sort-of the vain I was thinking. What I need most at the moment are some number statistics, you know, how many tanks each nation has. Stuff like that. Something to base my numbers off. Gorkon's a bigger nation than the US and I was stuck in my early-newb days, saying I had only hundreds of tanks. One of those websites suggested the US had thousands of MBTs alone :S. I need to do some research :D. Thanks for those, though; I'll have a proper look through them later. I'm at work now so I just had a glance through.

Isn't this where it was before someone moved it to General  ?

hmm , I don't know. Was it moved before? I don't see why, it appears to be an OCC discussion about RP. I believe it belongs here. I admit I'm not one of the RP mods, but it seems to belong here. *Shrug*

I belive FAs and global security are pretty mcuh the same sites but with different lay outs

Anyway:
the place for helos and other oddities (yes where i got a lot of ideas for my rotodynes):
http://avia.russian.ee/

A very good site for small arms and medium cal weapons tech:
http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/

tanks, tank tech and more tanks:
http://www.ciar.org/ttk/mbt/

and many many more, but as sino said a goggle search does the job most of the time and will take you right to correct page in the good sites.

Though GlobalSecurity seems to have more newer information on some cases...

Anyways, most valuable links are already posted... Though I could add these;

http://www.canit.se/~griffon/aviation/
http://members.surfeu.fi/stefan.allen/index.html
And to some extent, http://en.wikipedia.org

true but soemtimes it can be hard to spot as FAS puts everything in the one big page while GS spreads it out and adds interesting links to related sections.
of coruse both of them feature the same abundance of dead links...

Well yes, but only the Army has *some* descriptions of their stuff in English... For Navy and AF equipment, you'd need to understand Finnish.
Though this Insignia of rank (http://www.mil.fi/varusmies/arvomerkki/index_en.dsp) page is pretty nice.

Actually. I've found every info at there in English.
As you can see in my storefront.

For all you futuretech fans out there who may wish to get inspiration from Gundam, as well as Gundam fans:

Mecha Anime HQ -> I forgot the link, do a search on Yahoo on something and you should be able to find it. Sorry guys!

Oh, and Patrick's Battletech Archives are pretty interesting too. :)
www.kerensky.tierranet.com or something like that.

Darn, my memory sucks lol. :)

I have the official web sites for the militaries of about 45 nations, so if you want to see a particular site, say so and I'll see if I have it. Although I have India, I will not give you any links for it...Last I checked, their sites had viruses.
Actually, if you want a site on any particular military subject, say so and I'll look through my bookmarks...I have maybe 150.

true but soemtimes it can be hard to spot as FAS puts everything in the one big page while GS spreads it out and adds interesting links to related sections.I think if you want to look through all of a type of system (such as tanks), FAS is better, but if you want to find stuff from a certain nation, GS is better.

Some of mine -

www.g2mil.com - Good magazine there. Some interesting points and articles.

www.militaryphotos.net/forums - although the site is obviously related to military photography, it's forums are quite interesting, and does contain good information.

www.acig.org - an excellent site about air combat and milutary aerospace. Quite a few articles and an excellent forum

www.edefenseonline.com - more like an online magazine, if you like aircraft and is really interested in the spectrum of avionics. Quite interesting.

www.achtungpanzer.com/panzer.htm - though not related to modern defence information, it is an interesting site if you are interested about German armored vehicles and tanks in WWII.

Here (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0KAA/is_5_32/ai_111506026) is a link to an article about U.S. Navy plans to purchase 6 Virgininia Class Submarines. When I worked out the math, it came to about $1.45 billion a piece.

Here (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/877.htm) is an article from the Global Security.org place. I worked out some of the math on it. The price of a Kilo Class submarine works out to about $146 million.

If I wasn't lazy, I'd find some more. :p

$1,500 million / 8 = $187.5 million
Your math seems a bit off there.

By the way, for ship pricing:
