The New Alliance Treaty Organization will be looking for nations to join this alliance. Long ago, the name of NATO was widely heard of and highly respected by most, and it is a great day for all of us that this alliance has been reborn.

Celack and Sigma Octavus, the only two surviving founding nations have accepted their invitations to rejoin.

If you would like to join: please make an official government statement expressing interest in joining. If you are a former member of NATO, please state so in your application. If you have been accepted, I will send you a telegram myself. I will also send you a telegram if you've been denied, just so you know what's going on.

We will choose only the best and most worthy nations for this alliance. Trouble makers will not be admitted under any circumstance. There has been a new way to decide upon who is accepted or not. There are five members of the Congressional Board. These 5 members debate on whether the applicant's overall status is good enough to enter NATO. If your track record is clean and you have good skills at RP'ing, then we'll recognize that, and will accept you, however, if you've supported terrorists/supressed your people/ or if you just aren't a very good RP'er, don't expect to be accepted.

Note: Nations with a creation date of October or November generally won't be admitted into NATO. It's nothing against new players, it's just that they probably haven't built up much of a reputation among the NS world. Give it a couple months, make some good RP's, and apply.

Here is the charter that I have drawn up. Feel free to discuss it.

*****
NATO Charter

*The New Alliance Treaty Organization shall herein be referred to as NATO.

*Member Nations are urged to open trade routes with one another. Not every nation must open routes with all consistent members, but trade and interaction on some level is preferred.

*Nations may not petition to join NATO soley for membership and no other action. Upholding of this charter and the responsibilities and duties that come with the status of a NATO member is required. Inactivity or failure to follow the rules and guidelines of this charter will result in a review/dismissal of said nation's membership status.

*Active and Respected Member of the International Community. (OOC: Reputable RP record.)

*Nations may apply for Economic Boost Packages, Defensive Boost Packages, and other benefits that will be exclusive to NATO members.

*Nations may petition for a redress of grievances in a International Consortium Court, if they believe a member nation has acted unaccordingly to the Charter. The court will be a panel of 3 persons from nations that do not hold cabinet positions, therein creating a 'check and balance' system. This 3 person panel shall be known as the International Consortium Court.

*No nation may attack another nation within NATO, period. All grievances must be brought before the International Consortium Court. Those nations that do attack a member naton will be expelled from NATO immediatly, and summarily have sanctions placed upon them.

* All nations are given the right to rule in sovereignty, NATO, the International Consortium Court, may not pass any statute that interferes with the sovereignty of a member nation. Save in place of sanctions or other disciplinary actions that may be decided upon by the International Consortium Court.

*NATO shall be ran by a singular individual, and an appointed Congressional Board. This board shall consist of five nations, appointed by a majority vote from Automagfreek, Sigma Octavus, and Celack.

*The International Consortium Court shall be appointed by the head of NATO, with an approval measure of 75% majority vote from the Congressional Board.

*The head of NATO may propose a new amendment to this charter, or to remove an existing one. The Congressional Board shall decide to remove or add by a 75% majority vote in accordance witht eh head of NATO's wishes.

*In cases of tied votes in the Congressional Board, the head of NATO will make the final decision.


*The head of NATO shall hold Executive Authority to declare an Emergency state on a trade route or Nation/State, and deploy NATO forces to protect them/it. If after 45 days the Congressional Board decides that there is no Emergency Situation, or the situation no longer requires NATO forces, they may, by a 50% Majority vote, order the withdrawal of forces.

*The Board shall hold the authority to approve or disapprove membership, to a petitioning Nation. This action can be vetoed by the head of NATO if just cause against the applying nation is shown.


*All NATO member nations must stand ready to commit military forces in any conflict against a NATO member. While not required to go to war immediately when when a conflict arises, all members must be ready and on alert if the Congressional Board feels that said member is innocent of provocation. Provocation of a attack without NATO approval will result in an emergency meeting of the Congressional Board to discuss the situation and rule on it accordingly. Suspension of NATO membership for unjustified aggression can result at any time by either a 50% vote from the Congressional Board, a 50% vote from the International Consortium Court, or a singular vote by the head of NATO. This action can only be appealed by a member of the Board or the Court, and NOT by the member in question.

*The Congressional Board may review the membership of a current member-state of NATO. If the Congressional Board finds due cause, with a vote of 4/5ths a member-state may be expelled from NATO. A member-state may also be expelled, with due cause, by a simple majority vote of both the Congressional Board and the International Consortium Court, if action is taken this way the NATO Leader may veto the decision.



*The Leader of NATO may, with due cause, suspend a member-state for a period not to exceed 14 days. During that time the Congressional Board shall review the member-state's conduct, should a majority of the Congressional Board find against the aforementioned member-state, explusion will occur. If the Congressional Board finds for the aforementioned member-state, they shall be reinstated into NATO and the Leader of NATO may not suspend their membership in NATO for a period of at least 14 days.

We would like to apply for a position in NATO. I have heard of it and think of it as one of if not the most powerful alliance. However if i am accepted i would like you to know before hand i go 'inactive' some times for stretches up to 2 weeks due to constant trips. And i would like to ask what if a NATO nation is attacked but another does not notice. WOuld there be a telagram sent. Ex. Your attacked. I dont notice. Could you send a telegram if you see my assistance is of need.

The Iron Concordiat of Wirraway has decided that it would be in it's be in its best interests to apply for acceptance to NATO. We have long watched NATO act fairly and cooly in time of crisis. The longevity this alliance has enjoyed speaks to its stability and ability make decisions without splintering or resorting to the petty feuds which have broken up so many other alliances. It is for these reasons and the continued security of Wirraway that we apply for admittance to NATO.

OOC: Indeed, I too am waiting on an answer. Perhaps the Right Wing Collective would be easier to join or the Red Block Army. I believe if NATO wishes to keep its membership application high, they should work hard on processing applications. However I will wait on an answer before I make a move to any of the other alliances on NS.

Why not join the RWC then? We accept everybody and if we don't like them, we kick them out. Saves both of us a LOT of time.

I know the my nation is under investigation for my application to NATO, and you mentioned that any RP experience that was avaliable would be useful.

Most of my good stuff was on the last forum ( OOC:why on earth didn't they keep a link to it, just for history's sake?) and any RP on this forum has not been very large, some applied force, financial and diplomatic stuff here and there. I have recently become involved in a an RP with potential and i'll post the link underneath this so that it can be reviewed by the NATO council.

I know that I should take this gracefully, and I will try to. However, I have a couple of niggling questions regarding my application.

1) In what way is my RP record not 'quite conclusive enough for NATO to grant you membership'? I was under the impression that I was holding a quite an extensive RP record, which is (with no offense to existing members) longer than some already holding NATO membership.

2) When I was contacted regarding my application, no-where was my RP record mentioned. Of course, if this is not the actual reason for my application being sidelined, then I could of been contacted. However, no such action has been taken.

Again, I am sorry if this sounds offensive. I have been waiting for over a month, just to be told to 'get more rp's'. Nothing else? I can rp, and I can write very well. Just look at my Ruin of Ages thread. This is irratating to me, as I feel that the grounds for my temporal refusal to be unsubtanciated.

We here in Presgreif are still bemused that Euroslavia is capable of belonging to both NATO and GDODAD. Our nation's greatest minds are still hard at work trying to come up with a formula which would decipher where Euroslavia's loyalties lay, and in what proportions.

I think its probably safe to say that you don't quite have enough experience to enter NATO. Due to the fact that you only have 26 posts, I believe, we must defer your application until you get into some more RP's, and get some overall experience in NS. We hope you will still be interested in joining NATO, in say, a month or so, and I certainly wish you the best of luck in creating some very interesting RP's.
