Elections in the Bonstocknian Colony of Maropian Coast

Maropian Coast
12-09-2004, 17:02
The Bonstocknian government has allowed elections to take place in the Bonstocknian colony of Maropian Coast, for the post of Governor. Citizens will be allowed to choose which of two cantidates shall be thier Governor.

Lee Xiang Zhou, People's Liberation Party

"I believe we must work to make this colony independent! Our government, our role in Bonstocknian politics, are all a dshonest fabrication by corporate overlords bent on making us serve them. I say we rise up! Shun the Bonstocknians and their corporations! All power to the proletariat!"

Seen as a communist, Lee served with distinction during the First Asian War. He is 47 years old, and has published a radical pro-independence news paper, the Independence Daily for years, after he was fired from his factory job for organizing a union.

Johan Hu, Bonstocknian Capitalist Moderate Party

"Maropian Coast has grown prosperous under Bonstocknian rule, and that prosperity will only increase. Our economy is one of the best in the world, and maintaining the status quo will only make it better."

Many see Hu, a longtime factory manager known for employing children to make cars, as a lackey of Corporate Bonstock. He is 59, and divides his time between his penthouse in Port Yuko, Bonstock proper, and his mansion on a private island off the coast of Bonstocknian Taiwan. He promises stablity and status quo.

I make it hard. Either you get Maropian independence and a nuke-crazy commie, or you get a corporate aristocrat who oppresses the people and keeps it part of Bonstock. Both are evil, you decide which is the lesser evil.

Yes, it is a US thing, I'm American, so there are influences there. So choose... there is no third option! Unless you vote for Ralph Nader, but he has no chance anyway, so you'd be throwing you're vote away.

OOC: Oh boy. You guys don't know Bonstock like I do. Whenever he talks aboubt communism in a positive way, assume something fishy is going on. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see MC gain independence so that Sino, Taiwan and Bonstock can all struggle to regain it. however, that would mean the People's Liberation of Bonstock (or something) will get support from newly communistm MC, which will need to struggle with Bonstock to get free.

However, bad news for me that Hu might cut off relations with me, since I'm a socialist state, but I don't see anything Bonstock can pull off with Hu besides cutting off relations with me. At least, nothing as drastic as independence.

IC: Having long evaluated the situation, Zecro has come to a descision. We will endorce Lee, not because we agree with his policies, but because Lee will set Maropian Coast free, giving rise to communist parties within Bonstock, thus sending Bonstock proper into (another) civil war. Need i remind you, gentlemen, the havoc the latest civil war caused in Bonstock. Also, Maropian Coast would become less secure of foreign attack without the power of Bonstock backing it up. Moreover, should Maropian Coast gain independence, we feel that technological advancements that were once limited to our alliance would be passed on to other countries, namely Sino and other Asian countries. An alliance between Maropian Coast and Sino and Taiwan, coupled with the inside information Maropian Coast could provide, would make Bonstock a sitting duck in a wide ocean.

Hualien, Maropian Coast, Bonstocknian Taiwanese possessions

A large crowd gathered in the streets. Suddenly, motorcycle police came buzzing down the road, followed by four black limousines. They went at a rather quick pace, but slow enough to aim at. Which is why a 19-year-old former Maropian Defense soldier named Liang Hao was hidden in the top floor of an old warehouse with a stolen RPG launcher. He saw the limos approach. Taking his RPG launcher, he aimed carefully at the lead limousine. It came within range. He squeezed the trigger. The RPG went flying, hitting the lead limousine. It blew up. The other limos went around, and sped to top speed. Army soldiers guarding the roadway fired thier AK-47s wildly in every direction. Liang tried to fit a second RPG onto the launcher before the others got away. Unfortunatly, he was spotted. An MP-40 burst from a Maropian soldier found his throat. He died instantly. Governor-elect Johan Hu, having been in the 3rd limo, was unharmed.

The limo approached the Maropian Assembly house, and Hu got out, walking briskly into the chamber. The chamber was filled with supporters, all of them rich factory owners, lawyers, doctors, and bureaucrats. He approached the podium. Standing there was none other then Lord Harald Gustavsson himself, who drawfed his Maropian counterpart. He said, "Please put your left hand on this copy of the Bonstocknian constitution and put your right hand in the air, and repeat the following words."

Hu stood and did as told. Harald continued, and Hu repeated, "On my honor, I do solemnly swear, to uphold and protect the Bonstocknian constitution, and the Maropian Charter, to the best of my ability, and to faithfully execute the office of Governor of Maropian Coast, knowing and upholding the rule of law, so help me God."

The chamber applauded. Harald shook hands with Hu, and then turned and left. Hu continued the celebrations late into the night.

"Hu won the election," Yuki remarked casually to Premier Kim. The two sat on the veranda of the Imperial Palace, watching the sunset.

Kim shook her head. "Probably rigged," Kim snorted. She had little respect for Bonstock, especially its military; she had served in the Japann war, and remembered full well that Bonstock had only gained the upper hand after breaking a truce, which was still a sore point for many Islandians.

Yuki shrugged. "At least it wasnt us who tried to assassinate the new governor," she said. "If it was, then we would have succeeded...and no one wouuld have known."

Kim laughed. "Typical Bonstockian work, to make it seem as if someone really did try to assassinate a leader," she said with disdain. "But still, we need to be wary of them."

"NOt fear them," Yuki said.

"No, not fear," Kim said. "But be wary. We laugh, we joke, but although they may be disrespectful in every sense of the word...they are Bonstock. And they are tricky."

Yuki nodded. "But if Maropian Coast decides to expand...."

They carried iron from Bonstocknian mountains to be made into cars and other manufactured goods in Maropian Coast. Most of the 12 active Bonstocknian carrier battle groups are currently in port, but at least 2 are patrolling in the seas between the Sakishima Islands and Maropian Coast, and two more within the islands themselves. The Chuang (Zhuang) man in the drivers seat, seemingly alone in the car, gulped and got his passport and everything ready. A Border Guard asked for his information.

"It was obviously rigged!" The Hudecian MP for Vancouver South exclaimed to several members of the press who excitedly published his statement on the front pages along with other unconfirmed 'evidences' of the electoral malfeances commited by Bonstock in the Maropian Coast elections.

-Edmonton-

From the Hudecian Foreign Ministry, Securities Division, it was arranged for several messages to be delivered to Hudecia's most well hidden agents inside the Maropian Coast.

-Hualien-

Along with the morning mail came an odd envelope to the apartment of a seemingly normal Maropian businessman. He had been selected and hired by Hudecia several years ago, right after the Bonstockian Wars and had been 'sleeping' ever since then.

In the envelope was new instructions. He was no longer to be a 'sleeper' agent and was to try to identify anti-Bonstockian elements and enlist their support and obediance.

The border guard asked, "What country do you come from? What business do you have in Maropian Coast? How long will you be here? Are you transporting anything illegal, be it arms, drugs, or animals? Is there anyone travelling with you?"

There was quite an atmosphere of an uneasy border. The guard was in camoflouge, with a helmet and boots, and had an AK-47 slung over his shoulder. There were guards in a nearby watch tower with a machine gun aimed right at this traveller. Machine gun nests and observation towers were everywhere, and many soldiers manned them.

It was routine, however. It had been this way for twenty years.

Meanwhile, it was fortunate for the Hudecian agent that he had the mail personally delivered to him. Had it been sent electronically, the BSS would have known all about it. That would also be true if it had been sent in the actual mail, as the BSS regularly examined personal letters, despite the constitutional ban on that. Indeed, the BSS was largely considered to be above the law.

The car drove through the border crossing, Lee took a sigh of relief and wiped seat from his brow. He pulled over before he got to the Consulate so as to put the Bumper Sticker on. He put the ID in his trunk, weary that it may contain listening devices.

The car moved on until it got to the Consulate. It pulled into the garage and stopped. A man walked up to the passenger door and opened it. "Ah, good to see you again!"

"Hello cousin!" The driver made a movement as if he were signaling his cousin something. His cousin handed him a piece of paper which read
The Consulate is bugged, resort to the careful plan.
Lee smiled and pointed at the passenger seat.

"Do you need help with you bags?" Ping San said.

"Yes, thank you."

Ping San pushed the passenger seat forward, Lee got out of the car and did the same on the driver's side. They both unlatched small hidden clasps at the base of the back-seat very quietly. "Yes, you get that suitcase there!" Lee said rather loudly.

They pushed the Seat up a couple of feet, and from the hidden compartment underneath the seat, crawled out a woman. She smiled at Ping San, they quietly put the seat back into place.

"Okay, lets go to my office cousin! We can have a drink and discuss things!" Ping San gestured to Lee and the woman.

The woman stepped out of the car, making sure only to put her feet to the ground when Lee did. They walked carefully in unison, so that any very sensitive bugs would only pick up two sounds of footsteps, Lee's and Ping San's. The woman even made certain to only breathe when Lee was.

When they got up to the office Ping San rushed to his desk. "I've made arrangements for you at the Imperial Hotel. It has a lovely view of the downtown area. Right near a bunch of well designed Government offices, including the new Governor's." Ping San getting some documents out of his desk. "Here's the information on it." He put several papers down on his desk.

"Now, lets relax and discuss things." Ping San sitting down and gesturing Lee to sit down. The woman remained perfectly still, carefully reading the papers Ping San had left out on his desk. She remembered to breath only when Lee was, every 5 seconds. Ping San and Lee carried on with Chit Chat.
