Imperialism and expansion

Guffingford

OOC: This is actually my first RP, but I lurked a lot on the forums so I know pretty much how things go. The setting is pre WW1, that means around 1870-1914. This is the real world setting but only a few decades earlier. The colonies are either made up landmasses or real world. When you have colonized something, you can't use in in modern tech roleplays (seeing Chellis' RL nation claims list is modern tech). Keep the troop numbers a bit realistic and you start with your own nation somewhere on the globe and then: start spreading your glory! Everybody is welcome.

IC:
The Emperor was looking at the marble steps in his palace in Beauford City, the grand capital of the newly founded empire of Guffingford. Other mighty countries were expanding their territory rapidly and most of the world mapped there was little time left. Guffingford needed more land to produce weaponry and to supply their troops. He sat down and started thinking about his new adventures. Tensions between the mightiest empires of the world were growing and the Balkan was a powder keg, to explode with even the slightest happening. The Ottoman Empire was weakened by internal corruption and loss of their lands were daily practice. The middle-east would be a good starting point. Yes, what a splendid idea.

Lord Buford, wire this telegram to the admirality. We are going to undertake the same things as our colleagues on the mainland. For it I, the grand emperor of Guffingford that we need to expand our borders, contribute to the economy and create an empire that will blurr the laws of time, it will exist forever. I want 10 cruisers, battleships and frigates mobilzed and ready for battle. Tell the high admiral of the Guffingford fleet we will be heading to the Persian Gulf. Furthermore, I want a detachment of explorers who know their way in Africa, and establish a seat of power there. The British and French are still trying procure as much coastline, but I think the inlands are far more interesting.

The telegram was sent, and Guffingford would enter a new age, an age of Imperialism and expansionism. South American was regaining its freedom after hundreds of years of Spanish rule, those countries are still weak and ready for the taking. The Spanish may have looted the treasures from the long forgotten Mayan and Aztec temples but in the earth beneath those countries are the real treasures hidden.

Guffingford will be in for a surprise when they find that Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are already part of Roycelandian East Africa, with a sizeable Roycelandian presence there....

The Guffingford Royal Navy was sailing paralel to the African shores, looking for a suitable place to tie up and rest for the night. The last 3 weeks were a nightmare, the Gods were enraged and storms plagued the seas. The moral of the men was low and the supplies were growing thin. Captain Blair looked at the map of Africa and noticed some small uncolonized islands. Those will be the primary harbour for our Emperors fleet.

The plans had to be adjusted slightly. The Belgians had a large colony, Congo... If we would drop our men on the shores during the night we might have a chance of gaining some land near the Victoria lake. It was a long walk and the German colonists are friendly towards Guffingford so they wouldn't be a problem to us. 2 Ships were assigned to this daring task. The rest had to continue their way eastwards, to the Persian Gulf.
