the Jeitanese Empire Ends Isolation!! (Asian and Imperial Nations, take note!)

the Citadel on Settodai, the Imperial Palace

"Are you certain this is wise, oh son of the heavens?" the Mancho Danasone, Minister of domestic affairs, asked. The young emperor smiled, a rare expression on his delicate face. "So much has happened, dear Mancho, and we have fallen so far behind. The Celestial Empire must finally breach the fogs, and see the foreigners. Not since the second great war that saw the end of Nippon and Europe have we looked out from our isles.". "And a wise isolation that was, oh blessed excellency. The foreigners are naught but blood-sucking ghosts, bull-headed warriors that know not the way of warriors, nor of peacemakers. I would protest, but.." He fell silent. The emperor looked at him quizzically, as protesting the son of the heavens was not something that had been done in over 140 years, since the age of civil strife. Then the emperor smiled again. "Your dishonourable urge is understandable, beloved retainer." He paused. "In fact, I wish to make you the first Mancho of foreign affairs - Your caution and foresight is, unless I'm mistaken," And here the emperor was almost laughing, in consideration of the serious(and likely fatal) accusation it would be anyone but him to suggest that he could be wrong - "..very much needed here. I do not remember the second "world war", but I do know it was the greatest loss of life in the history of Asia and Europe; and so we must be cautious and prudent indeed. Now let the world know of our glory, and we shall hopefully enter a new and fantastic era!".

Off the coasts of America, Dra-Pol, Sino and Roycelandia

Primitive two-engine transport planes entered the airspace of many nations around the world, bearing the Jeitanese flag with the Celestial seal on it; informing the people below that Jeitan was no longer in isolation by was of crude two-way radio transmitters, and wished to visit their leaders. Among those visited was the Choson people of Dra-Pol, where the messengers thought Wiman's line was still in charge - The Sinoese people, whom the messengers correctly guessed had grown very great and strong - the nigh-unknown land of the Americas, and finally the British Empire of Roycelandia, that had played a part in bringing down the proud Japanese people, and so they were correctly approached with humility and caution.

All nations within broad-wave rader distance of the Sea of Japan

The newly-formed "Forn Offise of Jaitahn" had its rapidly tutored clerks and translators beaming radio messages on every frequency they could find, to all nations within broadcasting range. The message was very simply that Jeitan was no longer lost, and welcomed its global neighbours with prospects of cultural relations and beneficial trade.

Hey peeps! New nation here - I normally play African Commonwealth and Red Scandinavia, but I thought I could do with a little variation, so here's the Celestial Empire of Jeitan! An island empire thought lost somewhere in the sea of Japan that is an amalgam of pre-WW2 to WW2-era China and Japan under one imperial aristocracy. As such, they'd like to open relations, and perhaps get in a few scuffles, once their growth is well underway again :)

Factbook and map is to come when I think it out.

Any and all feedback, suggestions on how the empire should look geographically and culturally, perhaps militarily, or if you just want to shoot the breeze, is heartily welcome through telegrams.

Telliria

The island of Planith was enjoying another beautiful day, and the many garrisons that dotted the island were scanning the radio waves and the real waves for anything. It had only been a few months since Telliria had made the decision to drag itself and her states out of isolation.

"Sir I'm picking up an ancient radio signal...its hard to read."

The techy pushed the ear piece closer to his ear and began to press some buttons, trying to clear the sound up.

"Got it sir! Going on the main speaker..."

The message played over and over on the main speaker and the men listened in silence. The commander of this garrison stared at the speaker for a while until all faces turned to him.

"Get this message to Emperor James." he said quitely.

"Sir shouldn't we give it to Governor Rodrigo first?" spoke a smal man lost somewhere in the gathering crowd.

"No, bring it to Emperor James."

Only 15 minutes later and aide ran to Emperor James who was sitting in the same room his great great grandparents had used to rule their nation. Telliria had been around for very long time, and Emperor James was the 12th Emperor, excluding the Fake Emperor who threw a coup so long ago. The young Emperor looked up at the men who came to him and took the paper silently, reading it.

"Can we send them an envoy?" he said in a calm calculating voice that never really changed. It was one of the reasons he was so popular.

"Sir, he will be sent shortly. We have no knowledge of their culture so it might be a problem. But if you wish it then it will be done. God bless you my lord."

He bowed and left.

A few hours later a pre-WW2 plane flew into Jaitahn airspace.

"Why are we using this anceint piece of junk again?" asked the envoy with more than a little nervousness creeping into his voice.

"Because it will be taken better this way, and we can land on their airstrip with this plane and not with ours. Understand please Sir Kenji."

Envoy Kenji nodded and short time later the pilot talked into a similiar radio that the Jaitahn were using.

"This aircraft 7-22-119po6 carrying a diplomat from Telliria. Request permission to land."

He waited for an answer.
Dra-pol

The Jeitanese aircraft was lucky not to be shot down on approaching Drapoel airspace, currently at an all time security high. In fact it was lucky enough to find its course joined by a Drapoel L2D4- a twin-piston-engined aircraft of Japanese origin, born before the second world war and based upon the American DC3. As a result, ground controllers at first believed the foreign aircraft to be another of their own, being generally on the look-out for 3rd and 4th generation fighter jets and large bombers flown by the enemies.

The Jeitanese would be most surprised by the changes since Wiman's day. In truth, though, nobody knew what had happened to the emperor, and it wouldn't be a great stretch to theorise that he may have fled to Jeitan itself in the 1930s or 40s and lived out his life in obscurity. Previously some had suggested he may have escaped to Japan or Taiwan, but little weight was given to either of these explanations for the fact that his body was never found after the 1931-38 revolution.

Normally an imperial nation such as this would have been considered a likely enemy, but Kurosite Dra-pol was in no need of new foes... the Jeitanese would be welcomed quite walmly in Dra-pol, and invited to Paegam, the former imperial capital, and a tiny city never visited by anyone but those chosen by the...Choson. Diplomats would try to break gently news of the Suloist and later Kurosite revolutions.

NATCOMM HQ (1547 Hours):

Amongst the clamour of communications and alarm:

Junior Officer from some coastal radar facility: "Sir, there word from one of our ground radars that a small unidetified aircraft is heading towards Sinoese airspace."

Sr. Col. Chan: "Acknowledged, soldier. Good spotting. You and your compatriots deserve a pat in the back."

ARSAF Brig. Gen. Fan: "Dispatch, dispatch! I want five FC-1s fighters to trail this thing and initiate radio contact. Be warned, it could carry a garage-made NBC weapon!"

Secretary: "General, Sir, one of our radars has picked up a radio message broadcasted by the small craft."

For the pilots called to do their duty, border intrusions were far too common.

4 Xiannese J-10's in coperation with SIno has now a 2mile range of the aircraft signals have been sent out. A messgae has been repeated to the 2 approaching aircraft.

Sea of Japan, near the Xiannese Coast.
"Land immediatly or we will down your craft!" yelled the pilot, another than gave the nearest landing strip, Dalian.

2 more J-10's have now intercepted the planes.
"Turn around now!" yelled the pilot. The planes seems to not understand.

Reports came over the wire from Sino and Xiaguo that strange aircraft had appeared approaching both their nations. Xiaguo's Ambassador gave the Chuang-Han government a note clarifying the situation when it became clear that one was headed towards Chuang Air Space as well. The faint radio single picked up, but mostly dismissed.

"Interesting..." Said the General of the Air Forces. "I suppose we'll see what Sino and Xiaguo do first, then respond. Besides, with all this talk of the Quad-Treaty, I suppose we should show some cooperation with those two nations... If it is really an enemy, we'll intercept and shoot it down over the straits of Hainan."

"This is Lt. Col. Hong from the ARSCF 23rd Fighter Wing. You are approaching Chinese airspace. Please state the nature of your potential intrusion or be forced to land and face justice in the courts of the Sinoese Military Junta. Do you copy?"

Lt. Col. tried to radio the potential threat, assuming that it carries no active EW/ECM systems.

"Dammit, sir. Some Xiannese in our radar." Lt. Sai called to the Colonel.

"Be nice, son. HQ told me that they've been sent over for the same reason."

"Did you hear that, that Xiannese pilot warned them to be shot down if no compliance!"

"Goddammit! Those northern rednecks always want it to be like this. They should just go back to rice farming!"

"Attention Xiannese pilots, do not threaten the target. Approach with extreme caution, we have the latest intel stating that they are from some isolationist 'nation', the message ain't so clear. They seem to want recognition and diplomacy." Capt. Pan, their 2IC explained to the Xiannese.

"I don't beleive it... Is that a Vickers Vimy???"

The Coastal Watch observers adjusted their binoculars, trying to see better.

"I thought they went out of service in 1923?"

"Obviously someone's still flying them."

"Give them landing permission and see what they want..."

His Imperial Majesty Emperor Royce I didn't like being disturbed from his morning Paper, but the aide assured him that this time it was actually important, and not merely the Lusakan Ambassador claiming the plumbing in the Lusakan Embassy had mysteriously stopped working again.

His Majesty strode to the Royal Wardrobe and faced a difficult decision... which one of his Royal Loud Shirts should he wear?

After summoning his Secretary, his Butler, the Minister for Foreign Affairs ("Tell me, Jeff, how Do I go about having an Affair with a Foreigner?" His Majesty always joked whenever he saw Jeff Lebowski, the Foreign Affairs Minister), and some random passersby from the street outside, he finally decided on a tasteful Loud Shirt in Electric Blue, with "Koala Beer" motifs, all involving Koalas in various stages of intoxication, holding cans of Beer with the amusing pun on the label.

Finally seated on the Imperial Throne, with his Pith Helmet/Crown on, His Majesty bade the Jeitan delegation enter.

"So, what can I do for you?" he asked, accepting a Black Russian from his Aide. "Something to drink?" he asked of the Delegates, indicating His Majesty's very large and very well stocked Liquor Cabinet.

All undisclosed aircraft entering Xiannese water are to be interogated or shot down. They are nearing Bohai.

"Damn niggers, why don't they go back and farm their rice." muttered the pilot.
"Well, they got their point"said the captain, now just twitching buttons around.
"Why the heck would aomeone fly such an old thing out into forbidden waters?"
"Well, beats me, but have you heard about a story of a secret island somewehre in the Pacific of the Japanese Sea, forgot where,"
"People believe there may be a hidden island dating from the World wars."

Decked out in light armour, both were members of the Hakken, the aristocracy in charge of the day-to-day government of Jeitan. His Majesty regarded the two envoys with interest. Even the Imperial Guard had given up wearing armour years ago, after some bright spark invented Kevlar and they could make their famous Red Combat Jackets out of the bullet-resistant material.

"Of course. Let me be the first to welcome you to the Empire of Roycelandia, and extend the hand of Friendship to you."

His Majesty listened to the envoys, and nodded.

"Of course, we would be delighted to allow you to establish an Embassy with us." His Majesty waved his right hand to indicate that one of Minions should start making some phone calls and get this sorted out, preferably before the Jeitan envoys left.

"We are always open to trade. What would you be interested in trading in?"

His Majesty had an idea. "As a gift of friendship between our peoples, the people of Roycelandia would like to give you a brand new Sunderland Flying Boat."

Jeff Lebowski (The Foreign Affairs Minister) nodded approvingly.

"What sort of goods and resources have the Jetian people to trade?" he enquired politely.

The Pilot nodded his head as he turned off the com unit. The plan jolted a bit more than usual, although nothing dangerous. Still the envoy clung to the saftey straps. Of course he hadn't experience the landing yet.

The craft saw the airstrip that it was supposed to land on and headed down after circling once. When the wheels first hit the ground there was an enormous jolt that sent the diplomat into fits of fear. Even though it was bouncing like nobodies buissness inside, the craft landed and the co-pilot even remarked about such a "good" landing.

Still the envoy composed himself and walked to the door, breifcase in hand. Two other men dressed completely in red with automatic weapons in hand stood up and followed him, only their silent eyes showed.

The Envoy stepped out of the plane, waiting to see what awaited him.

My military level is, at worst, around Japans at WW2, and as other participants have stated, there could be interference from world powers against you. Perhaps we should just let it lie? The JAI-44 Mara transport landed roughly on the airstrip, and inside the two diplomats looked quizzically out on the heavily-armed reception.

"Switch off the engine of your aircraft and step outside of it, standing with your feet apart and hands high in the air." A gigantic loudspeaker boomed out the words in Mandarin, followed by another one but in English. This seems like the Olympic compettition announcements only that the airfield was the stadium and the sport was called 'stand off'.

Watching as the two men stepped out, dressed in WWII-era pilot uniforms, the soldiers could only imagine such in a war movie. Three teams of five soldiers were ordered to search the men and their plane for weapons, explosives and NBC agents.

"Place your weapons on the floor! We know about your sidearm." The voice boomed as the teams moved in cautiously, the safeties off and the hindsights always at eye level. An ARSAF 2nd Lt. in summer service uniform watched, not too far from the teams approaching cautiously. He had wore a peak cap purposefully to indicate his authority as the nearest officer to the strangers.

His ARSAF cap badge gleamed in the afternoon sun.

Frankly, the pilots weren't very tight on extra-asian geographics, and thus didn't know that Vancouver wasn't in America. The plane landed in Hudecia, and the Jeitanese diplomats aboard(once informed about their location) stated their wish to visit the Hudecian leader.

The Hakken envoys were overjoyed to find a friendly western nation in the east(or west, depending on ones point of view), and they set upon their assignment - Being formal and polite to the point of exaggeration(or so it would seem, this is actually Jeitanese custom) they requested of O'Hara an exchange of embassies, along with what mutually beneficial commercial, cultural or research arrangements could be made with Hudecia.

Paegam, The Choson People's Republic of Dra-pol

Mist seemed to hang deliberately around the lower reaches of the hills upon which the Forbidden City rested in ignorance of the passing of time. Much as the vapours below shifted and heaved without direction in the trees so hung clouds on the hilltops, the stone city, over-grown in greenery, standing betwix as some neverworld.

Such descriptions may seem a little dramatic, but justified in that one could count on his hands the foreign eyes allowed ever to gaze upon such giant faces and imposing monsters as were hewn into the rock.

Here and there went a few Drapoel men and women all clad in similar fashion to Hotan's traditional favour, and more martially-dressed soldiers could be seen in silhouette at least, perched here and there around ancient battlements. These warriors directed through the milky firmament their 7.7mm Type D-92 machineguns, weapons machined after the Japanese Tashio 92nd Year machineguns of the Second World War and the time of Korea's division. As the Jeitanese were received within the grounds of the old fortress-palace itself there rattled over-head what appeared to be -though it was obscured by cloud- a Mitsubishi Zero, and was in fact a two-seat S-1 elemental flight trainer operating out of the Republic's northeastern proving grounds.

"...I am Director Choi." Said a woman who had appeared before the foreigners, saluted, and welcomed them to Paegam, addressing them as comrades.

"Please." She said, gesturing for the Jeitanese to follow her into the weather-beaten stone palace. Choi, Regional Director for Paegam District, would soon be seated with her guests at a table made also of old stone in a room with elaborate freezes upon its walls and without glass to its tall, narrow window. There would be Drapoel tea flavoured -one might say rather polluted- by god only knows what roots and other goods, along with soju and Drapoel sake. Guards lurking, too. These were armed with shortswords akin to wakizashi with which they were supposed to defend the little corridors and twisted ruins about.

Choi was keen to discuss trade and to talk history, politics, and culture if it pleased the Jeitanese.

The first-mentioned treaties were found quite satisfactory, and after a short telegram to and from Jeitan, the son of the heavens signed the treaties in absentia via the envoys.

Technology exchange, particularly in the field of military aviation, was met with eagerness by the envoys, he confided that the british had given them enfield designs on which they had designed the Mabu(essentially, a .303 bolt action enfield) and the newer self-loading carbine(disturbingly much like the SLLE..), but that the spitfires had a certain advantage on the aging fighters used by the Silver Host, or imperial air force.

Paegam

The envoys would happily supply the communist regime with machine parts, vital chemicals as well as the many agricultural products that came out of the lowlands. In the long run, some sort of whole machine tool and defense hardware exchange could likely be arranged as well.

Keen as they also were to talk history, the envoys were most interested in the current asian political climate, what regimes and forms of government were prevalent and which regimes could be counted as friendly, both to the CPRD and to the Empire of Jeitan.

Vancouver

The envoys enjoyed the food with gusto, sampling most of the platter(but passing on the rye bread and liquorice.. That was indeed a bit too much). While exchange students could be interesting(think of the culture shock!), first and foremost the Jeitanese would like to see concrete and vital diplomatical applications, preferably in the form of commerce and research agreements rather than cultural exchanges(though the emperors government was very keen to do this as well, in the future).

A hastily-organised demonstration of Roycelandia's Military Forces was thrown together... the Imperial Guard, Emperor Heavy Tanks, and, of course, the Spitfire Fighter. An additional bonus was that other advent of Modern Technology, the Helicopter.

Roycelandian Iroquois and some ADV-33 Attack Choppers staged a mock attack on the Dreadnought IRNS Roycelandia, moored in Torpedo Bay, whilst the Dreadnought demonstrated it's powerful armament by firing a salvo from all of it's guns out to sea.

Settodai, en route to Ido, the Imperial capital

To the Tellirian visitor, it would seem that most of the culture is an archaic form of the asian Imperial age, showing great personal politeness to strangers, a sound work ethic, respect for ancestors and spirits of nature and a profound deference to the Imperial powers as well as the Hakken, the remarkably Samurai-like caste of warrior aristocrats, who handled day-to-day government under the all-pervading auspices of Imperial clerks.

"Not too long, honoured stranger. We must first pass the regional governour, the honoured Genzaemon, for the traditional welcome ceremony and his leave to visit the forbidden citadel."

Vancouver

Commerical openings were of vital interest, and the envoys were happy to receive shares of Hudecia's wealth. Of particular interest was minerals, and on the technological side, non-military applications of plutonium and uranium. To some extent, the Hakken knew of civilian nuclear power, but had yet to see it function; and would like to visit with Hudecian atomic scientists.

Jeitanese engineers likely had little to offer Hudecia save perhaps a vast range of knowledge on archaic engineering, such as beautiful asian rural and urban landscaping and architecture, smithing of medieval weapons and armour, construction techniques not involving heavy machinery and the like.

"We are eager as well, honourable O'Hara" the young Hakken known just as Ra answered O'Hara. "We have been lost to the mists for very long, and we need all the ties we can get to keep up."

Port Imperial

Visibly impressed, the envoys pressed for an exchange of military engineers; that Jeitan could develop its own main battle tanks superior to the aging Chinese and Japanese light tanks the armed forces were currently stuck with.

Also of great interest were the rotary aircraft, and the envoys enthusiastically requested a list of various utility and transport helicopters that they could purchase from Roycelandia in anticipation of some day building their own.

In the long run, the Silver Host(as is, the envoy explained, the formal name for the Imperial Armed Forces)s foreign imports office, an office that had, coincidentally, just opened this in Settodai, would probably be very interested in buying Roycelandian hardware.

Xiagua

The pilot Seng, also a member of the armed forces, could hardly believe his own eyes. Upon contacting his country, he learned that similar experiences were being made all over the world. Choi continued to behave coridally towards the Jeitanese, expressing interest on the Republic's behalf in making Jeitan a significant exporter of foodstuff to Dra-pol, saying that, "...in light of the theft of so much territory" it was difficult to support the nation's millions. "The associated isolation also makes it difficult to acquire such natural resources as oil that do not occur widely on the peninsula" she added, not really expecting the Jeitanese to have much better stocks themselves.

Choi did not want the affair to seem one sided, and would speak on Dra-pol's extensive use of nuclear and hydro electric plants for power generation, its renown in tunnel-building, and the great extent of its armament-building industry as well.

As for the international community she would have relatively few kind words. "Korea" she would say, "remains divided simply because foreign powers deem that it should be so. Japan, the USA, Kilean, Quinntonia, Hudecia, many more nations have all fought the Korean people and spilled their blood in the name of profit or politics.

"There are some strong countries of good national character and morally aware leadership." She said, finally. "In South East Asia Marimaia has continued to experience growth and progress and its Neo Suunist philosophy can perhaps be trusted better than the reactionary whims of other, less stable states.

"Not so very far away, on the Lyong peninsula, nations such as Spyr and North Yaman may be worthy of diplomatic approach. The former is apparently quite stable and its leadership reasonable, and the latter strives hard for progress in the proper causes and exhibts strength of conviction in face of arrogant foreign disapproval."

Conversation had then to wait as the clatter of rotors filled the stone structure with the passing overhead of an Mi-2 helicopter.
