The Myanmar Confrontation (request for a Myanmar player, OOC thread)

OOC:
Okay, here's the backstory. In the Dra-pol/East Islandia/Xiaguo/Lyong Peninsula/etc. version of Asia, Marimaia occupies the space we know as Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Marimaia and Myanmar (Burma) are both fairly totalitarian dictatorships, except Marimaia is more concerned about civil rights and standard of living.

As part of the NeoSuunist Revolution, Marimaia has pressed its claim on territory which was part of the medieval kingdom it replaced, more specifically Tenasserim, Mon State, Karen State, Kayah State and several townships of Shan State (a map will follow shortly to show where these are in Myanmar). The Marimaian secret services have been training and assisting insurgent groups in these areas for years now, with plans to use them in the 'liberation of rightful Marimaian citizens' (these areas are seen rather like the Sudetenland was seen by Nazi Germany); the insurgents have been promised autonomous region status within Marimaia, as well as all the benefits associated with Marimaian citizenship.

With everyone currently focused on Dra-pol's offensive in Korea, Marimaia has decided to resolve the Myanmar situation while no-one's looking (standard Marimaian practise really). Diplomacy will be tried first, but Marimaia is really just using diplomacy as a distraction while building up on the Myanmar border. If diplomacy works, then all the better, but military action is looking likely.

Since I don't know if anyone actually RPs as Myanmar, I'm asking anyone who does to join in; if no-one does, then I'd like someone to step into the role for this.

[I will use one of my puppets as Myanmar if you like. T-gram the nation "Sengoku Daimyo". As a side note, I thought the Shan States were in Thailand?]

OOC: Thanks Turkmeny. From what I've read, the Shan and the Thai are very closely related, but the Shan State I'm talking about is the huge Myanmar administrative region on their border with Thailand. It could be that Thailand has a Shan State area as well, but I can't find a Thai administrative region map to check (not that it's all that important for this RP, but you've got me wanting to know now).

(OOC: Actually, I am reviving another old nation of mine, Babu Nanu, to fight you. It is slightly larger then Sengoku Daimyo. You are still a full billion or so larger, and thus would likely win, I just didn't want you to steamroll Myanmar. At least let them set up a good fight, and all that. :)

Anyway, I just checked and Shan State does belong to Myanmar, and there is no Shan area of Thailand. However, I think when Thailand was still Siam they did have authority over that region, at least to the east of the Salween River (I think that is what the river is called, don't remember).

OOC: No problem. It looks like I'll have more than just you to deal with eventually, but I hope the AA realises that they'll be supporting a harsh brutal military dictatorship against a dictatorship which will be liberating Myanmar's minorities from persecution, etc.

They'll have to decide whether they can live with denying the minorities a better standard of living. Besides, it's not like Myanmar will be completely invaded; we only want a part of it (because that makes it all the better).

OOC: Damn, I think I made Babu Nanu a civil rights lovefest ... hmm ...

OOC: It is official, Sengoku Daimyo is Myanmar. First it is a dictatorship, and second Babu Nanu (even though it is a November 03 nation) is only 700 million strong, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Is there an IC thread yet?

Well, dead nations don't grow while ...dead, or I'd be reactivating me some billions :)

Anyway... hurrah!
Needless to say, Marimaian forces can expect to benefit if they so desire from combat-experienced Drapoel tunnel-warfare, sniper, and booby-trap experts (to the best of my knowledge, Dra-pol is the most heavily tunneled and most heavily mined/trapped nation in the modern world).

As a result of the rift with Marimaia, agents in Southeast Asia have begun supplying the rebel forces with various firearms, American-issue camouflage fatigues, rockets, and American-made flakvests.

If the Burmese wish, the East Islandians will open the Joint Jungle Warfare School to them (not that they really need to further their training, but just in case they want to), home of the best guerillas in Asia.

Let's have fun, people :)

The invasion/liberation is set about a week after the start of Dra-pol's offensive.

Dra-pol: I've tied your offer of experts into the backstory, whereby Marimaian and Drapoel specialists have been teaching the minority insurgent groups about tunnel warfare, booby trapping etc., with a little help from surviving Vietcong experts.

East Islandia: Should be fun to be opponents for once ;)

If you notice, I gave each of my generals different tactics, to make this interesting.

Tenasserim will be mostly conventional warfare with large forces, Karen will mostly be conventional warfare, but with smaller forces on a larger front in rougher terrain, and Kayah will be complete guerilla warfare.

As for Shan, once your troops actually invade that region (the IC thread didn't mention troops entering it), it will probably be a mix of them.
