The Final Showdown - Capitalists vs Communists

Kodovia

The Government of the People's Republic of Kodovia, just recently returning to power after its fall in 1998, was at its weakest point throughout its forty eight years of being in power. The government, which had been setup in 1945 by the Soviet Union after its liberation from Rumanians and Germans during the Second World War, governed the nation seamlessly. In the 1980's, during which time the Communist governments throughout Europe were experiencing difficulties, Kodovia was prospering under its Communist government.

In the end, it fell because it had been isolated and was being attacked by militias supported by western countries, such as the United States. When the US lost interest in the nation after the Communist armies had been crushed, the capitalists lost their power quickly. When the Communist 'People's Liberation Militia' entered the capital city in April, 2004, the end of the Capitalist rule seemed evident. Their armies quickly dissappeared from the scene and reintegrated into the population, but the battle was not over yet.

After reorganizing, regrouping, and rearming, the capitalists have decided it is time to strike. They would seize control of the city where they had the best support of the population - but even that was considerably less than what the capitalists had in mind.

The northern Kodovian city of Briceni, being a border city with Ukraine and not too far from Romania, and where these capitalists had a base of support with the population, was a prime location. They could purchase weapons and transport them across the border from Ukraine or Romania.

"It is a great location for us," said Boris Anatolyov, leader of the newly resurrected Capitalist Freedom Party.

"Begin Barbarossa." ordered Anatolyov to his loyal deputy, Leonid. "I say again, Barbarossa."

"Barbarossa, understood." responded Leonid over the phone.

Thirty minutes later, automatic gunfire and RPG fire reverberated throughout the city with the occasional mortar round landing randomly. The city was falling. The 3rd Infantry Brigade, being caught off guard, was quickly being destroyed. The headquarters of the unit, in central Briceni, had been captured. It looked hopeless for the Communists in the city.

The city quickly began to fall to the rebel forces. Some six hours after the beginning of the rebellion, the 3rd Infantry Brigade, made up of 3,500 men and women had been reduced to a mere fragment of its former self: 1,248 men and women, many whom are dislocated from their units and spread out over a sprawling city of over 1,200,000. The police force in the city did not fare any better, with the majority being captured or having simply fled at the first signs of trouble.

The government radio station for the city and province, which operated on AM, FM, and shortwave frequencies was taken over within minutes of the uprising and by midday, was broadcasting the propaganda of the rebels. The same went for the television station that was for this province.

"People of the oppressed Briceni province, this is the Capitalist Freedom Party. We have liberated the city and province from the evil that had controlled them. Join your fellow men and women in the resistance to restore our freedom! Give our brave fighters food, shelter and women! Defend your nation!" was cried out over the radio by an overzealous rebel.

Drabikstan offers military support to Kodovia

By DRABIKSTAN SOCIALIST NEWS

Kibardograd - Drabikstani President Xer Kibard today announced he was offering full military support to the government of Kodovia in its struggle against capitalist militants. "It is our moral duty to aid our comrades in Kodovia in their struggle against imperialist agents," he said. "If the revolution in Kodovia is destroyed, our nation could become the next target."

The Drabikstani offer of help comes after capitalist forces launched a counter-attack against the northern Kodovian city of Briceni. Reports indicate the city has been captured after heavy street fighting.

The Drabikstani government said it was still waiting on a official response from Kodovia before deciding on the deployment of military forces. However, the Air Force has already been put on alert with Tu-22 strategic bombers being prepared for military operations if nessecary.

The offer of military deployments to Kodovia comes only days after an attempted coup against President Xer Kibard by elements within the military.

TO: Boris Anatolyov
FROM: Shildonian Office for Foreign Affairs

Congratulations on restoring power to the rightful government of Kodovia. True freedom can only be achieved under capitalism, and consequently we applaud your efforts to crush the communist insurgents. To help foster closer ties between our two freedom loving peoples, we would like to invite your government to establish an embassy in the People's Republic.
Alas, not everyone in the world is as happy as we to see your people throw off their shackles and retake their liberty. The recent threats made by Drabikstan appear to be more than just bluster. As you can see in the enclosed satellite images, they appear to be preparing their strategic bombers to launch strikes against your fledgling government, possibly using nuclear weapons. Doubtless you have witnessed first hand the lack of respect for human life held by the communists.
Do not fear though, for we are willing to deploy fighter aircraft to help protect you from their aggression. Already, a squadron of our new QNF-38 fighters have been scrambled to provide assistance. As they are nuclear powered, they will not need refuelling for almost two weeks, though our smaller and more manouverable aircraft will need landing facilities before they can be deployed. Please advise us on the availability of such facilities ASAP so we can send you assistance.

We are also willing to aid the capitalists, just name a place and a time, and I will deliver weapons or money to you. Whatever you need. I can even get you some Sarin...

The government, while stunned such a thing could happen, had reacted quickly. Within hours of the start of the fighting, a state of emergency was declared in the Briceni province. The army quickly mobilized and started to deploy to the outskirts of the city while the 3rd Infantry Brigade tried to regroup and reorganize throughout the night. What remained of the police force was dispatched to defend the areas behind the army, to ensure that the capitalist rebels could not attack the army from behind.

By day break the next day, two brigades, one armored and one mechanized, had been moved into the suburbs of the city. The units, however, were still at their peace-time staffing levels of about 70%, leaving them with less combat power than they would usually have. An infantry brigade, from the city of Tiraspol was being made ready to join the fight.

Briceni was now surrounded. The rebels began digging in and preparing for the apparent siege that now descended upon the city. But there was to be no siege. As night fell on the second day, the army began to attack. Artillery was used lightly to break up sectors of the city that had heavy resistance.

From the Capitalist Freedom Party - Boris Anatolyov

To the nations of Shildonia and Intelligent Neighbors:

The Capitalist Freedom Party thanks you for your offers of support, but cannot accept. The last time that the CFP accepted assistance from an outside neighbour, we were left high and dry after we returned the nation to the right path. Either we succeed on our own or we die. We will not allow ourselves to become compliant on outside assistance again.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs - People's Republic of Kodovia

To our comrades in Drabikstan:

Greetings to our comrades!

Your friends in Kodovia thank you for your offers of assistance and would be pleased to accept, if we did not have the situation under control. As per the Ministry of Defense briefing of today, the People's Republic is on the way to defeating this menance one and for all! We have the necessary equipment and manpower to complete this operation.

If, however, we require assistance at one point, we will know who to call on.

Thank you once again, Comrades!
