Czar Roger Fabus had spent a restless night in bed, the voice had told him of the intrigue against him in the Department of Internal Security, and of the planned Jihadist attack against him… But how could Jihadists get into Mississippi herself, it must be certain then that they had help from some personnel in the DIS.

The clock slowly moved along, the bright yellow-green numbers changed from 12:31 to 12:50, and then before Roger knew it, it was 3:06. He sighed loudly, more loudly than he realized, stirring Alice from her sleep. She rubbed her eyes before she voiced her concerns, “Roger, it is after 3 o’clock, you need to get some sleep.”

Roger slid out of bed and started to pace back and forth, apparently paying little attention to her, his mind still on the messages from God that he had been receiving over the last few days.

Alice looked at him again and reiterated, “Roger, you need your rest”, in a very friendly yet persistent tone.

Roger stopped his pacing, but a hand on his face, turned to face Alice, then nervously replied, “Alice, I cannot sleep tonight and shall likely scarcely be able to sleep for a while.”

Her expressions revealed her concern for him, “Well, will you be okay?”

He nodded silently as he continued to pace back and forth, occasionally studding to place a hand on his face and sigh.

Alice drifted back to sleep, Roger continued to pace, until the numbers on the clock read, “3:54” at which time the voice spoke to him again, “Roger, Roger”

(Roger) “Yes, Lord, I am here.”

(Voice) “Remember Roger, you must be ready and in good health to make the speech. You need your sleep.”

(Roger) “But I cannot sleep now… I’m too nervous.”

(Voice) “Get into bed and the sleep shall come to you.”

Roger nodded and then without hesitation he softly climbed into bed so as not to disturb Alice. Within about four minutes, Roger was sound asleep.

The next morning, Roger awoke at about 6:30, but he felt as though he’d slept for at least 12 hours, well rested, energetic, ready to take on the world.

After he showered and was getting dressed, the voice spoke to him again, “Remember Roger, they will come at you from the right side, but never close your mind to the possibility they may come from any direction. But this time, it will be the right side.”

Roger nodded and said, “I understand, Lord.”

Alice was walking by and asked, “Who are you talking to, Roger?”

Roger quickly replied, “Nobody dear, just the radio going.”

She accepted his explanation and continued to get ready for the speech to come right around noon. Shortly before her Roger was to host a gathering for top party officials.

Roger had trouble getting his boots on; he just couldn’t hold his hands still enough to do it. He called Alice for help, she arrived and help the nervous Czar slide his feet into his boots.

Roger kissed her, then said, “Thanks dear, I’d be lost without you”, which caused her to blush and smile, before saying, “You’re welcome Roger, I’d do anything for you.”

He then looked at her with an odd glance and said, “I need you to do me a big favor today, stay here while I give my speech. Trust me on this one, please.”

She nodded and obediently replied, “I trust you, anything you say, Roger.”

Roger smiled and then went off to the car that was to take him to Jackson City for the speech.

A few hours later in Jackson City…

There were over 200 members of the Special Republican Guard patrolling back and forth around the vicinity of the podium Roger would be speaking from, and a further 5,000 were in the city itself, with 10 of the men forming a circle around their Czar. They would protect him at any cost, for they believed his rule was divinely ordained.

The crowd of 500,000 was jubilant as the young Czar, just twenty years old, mounted the platform and readied to give his speech. Young women were blushing when he looked there way, even though he wasn’t looking at them with such thoughts in mind, he was married, and happily so, but he was still the envy of most all of the women in the Federation.

Roger smiled at a young man in a Republican Guard Cavalry uniform before giving him the secret cavalry sign which the young man promptly gave the counter-sign for.

The cool morning breeze had given way to a sort of pre-evening warmth that was humid and left the body to perspire and the clothing to stick to the skin, it was uncomfortable but not unbearable.

As Roger started to speak, the crowd suddenly fell silent, immediately submitting to the authority of their master, the Czar.

“Mississippians, today is a great day in our nation’s history, we are moving forward into the future, with God as our supreme leader, and myself an instrument of God, a representative, if you will, of God’s will on Earth. Our military is strong, our people are devout, and our economy is improving and expanding. The economics and finance ministers report that real GPD will increase 18% this year as we are using supply side and fiscal expansion policies to increase the economy. We are stimulating jobs by offering businesses subsidies. We are encouraging businesses to produce more by giving tax breaks to consumers so they can buy more. And when businesses produce more, they hire more. And jobs are an integral and essential part of any real nation! And we are a real nation, we are a great nation!”

He paused as the crowd started to cheer, “Fabus!” “Fabus!”, “Fabus!”

Not a single member of the crowd was not swept up in the furor of the cheering, caught up in the pomp of it all; they were all joining in, shouting uncontrollably. All except for one man, a lonely looking man, but a man who looked as though he preferred to be alone… A young man of about eighteen years old, with a long beard, standing toward the left of the podium (Right side from Roger’s view)… He was holding something in his pocket; nobody seemed to notice as he drew his hand out and quickly pulled the pin on the grenade before throwing it towards the podium. He shouted, “Allah Ackbar!” before he took a cyanide capsule.

Immediately an SRG man pushed Roger out of the way as the grenade came sailing in. The man hadn’t waited and so the five second fuse still had about two seconds left, an SRG man hurriedly grabbed up the grenade and threw it at a nearby fountain, it landed inside the water just as the fuse hit zero and it blew into pieces.

The SRG shuffled Roger into a waiting car and sped off towards the SRG base in Jackson City, where he could get on a helicopter to get back to Stalingrad.

The speech had obviously been forced to be cut short, but not without cause. The crowd was enraged and had it not been for the timely intervention of RG intelligence operatives, the crowd would most certainly have mutilated the body beyond recognition.

Alec's comment on the matter (to a Sevarisian radio talk show) "Pity he missed."

Secret IC:

The DA embassy in Sevaris has relayed that message to Roger Fabus. Indeed they taped the entire talk show and sent him a copy.

Roger Fabus received the message and tore the paper up and threw it into the air (don't worry, there are many copies) he then listened to the recording and flew into a rage. He shouted to a nearby advisor, "I want them out of the League! First they hate father for no reason, now they wish me dead! These are not the actions of any ally!"

Secret IC: The government was informed that there was a good chance the radio had been taped. Alec then issued a statement.

IC: "You'll have to forgive me. I've not slept in 36 hours. Plus, I just had a glass of Vodka. Anything I said there was probably a drunken/sleep-deprived rant. If I said anything to that effect, I apologize. I'm a bit out of it. "- Kaiser Alec.

Roger mumbled something, "I'll forgive you... With a dueling pistol." (he said the last part quiet, then smiled) (this was sent over video phone)

Secret IC:

Roger was pacing back and forth, yet again, nervous as hell... He mumbled to himself, "Sevaris wants me dead, what should I do?"

Suddenly the voice spoke to him again, "Sevaris is out to get you, they were likely behind the Jihadist attack.'

Roger froze dead in his tracks and his jaw dropped wide open, "Of course, it had to be them."

(Voice) "Yes, Roger, it was them... They all must die."

(Roger) "Yes, but Sevaris is supposed to be my ally..."

(Voice) "No, not the nation, their government. You must kill Kaiser Alec."

(Roger) "What of the Kaiserine?"

(Voice) "You may take her for whatever purposes you might wish."

(Roger) "But I'm already married, and happily."

(Voice) "Then give her to top official as a gift. But the Kaiser, he must pay for his insolence."

(Roger) (Hesitant) "But, Lord... I will obey your orders, but I don't want to see him die for nothing..."

(Voice) "Did he not try to kill you?"

(Roger) "I don't know who was involved."

(Voice) "But he praised the attackers."

(Roger) "Isn't there another way he can pay restitution?"

(Voice) "Yes there might be. Contact him and demand his wife humble herself before the party elite and beg forgiveness. Also demand he make an apology for his remarks, and his sleeping excuse was a lie."

(Roger) "You know for sure he was lying?"

(Voice) "I see and know all, remember that Roger..."

The voice faded away and Roger was left by himself again, he was soon going to call the Kaiser Alec of Sevaris and discuss a way to settle this problem. If that failed, he would call either WKM, DIS, RG Intell, SRG Intell, MSAAS, or the CMB, and have them arrange to assassinate the Kaiser. The Fabus name and the family's honor would be defended at all costs.
