---Office of the President of the Royal Congress, Royal Senate Office Building, Royal Congressional Complex, Hamptonshire City---

Sitting in his chair, hunched over the now certified results of the Royal Senate vote, Senator Allenby was filled with disbelief and anger. His close friend, advisor, and "co-conspirator" Field Marshal Alexander Kepplar paced in front of the Senator's desk.

"You told me we had this sown up tight. All I needed to do was assassinate Sir Walter and you'd get Robert Crane into the Defense Ministry...Now we have Lord Rosecrans. How the hell did this happen!" Field Marshal yelled.

"Do you think I meant for this to happen? Public opinion was overwhelmingly behind Rosecrans. Maybe you forget this Alex, but this is still a democracy. The members of the Nationalist Union can only rule if we are elected."

"Then why the hell did you have me kill Melville?" Kepplar said while pouring himself a scotch.

"We couldn't have forseen the popularity of Rosecrans and the fact that NURP is losing ground in the Royal Senate. We just don't have the votes to push the other parties around anymore." Senator Allenby said while reluctantly filling the results of the vote.

By a vote of 121-63, with 16 abstaining, Fleet Admiral Lord Phillip Rosecrans was appointed the new Defense Minister. He replaced Sir Walter Melville, who served as Defense Minister for a record 25 years. Throughout his service, Sir Walter forced the Royal Armed Forces to be subservient to the rule of the civilian authorities and curtailed the command power of the Joint High Command Council. Senator Allenby, Field Marshal Kepplar, and the rest of the organization known simply as "The Insurrection" wanted a new man in the Ministry. It was their hope that they could appoint Congressman Crane, by all account a fool and a near idiot, to the Defense Ministry thereby gaining control of the military for themselves.

"There is a bright side to this, Bernard." Kepplar said while finishing his drink. "As Defense Minister, Lord Rosecrans must resign from the Joint High Command Council and must step down as Chief of Staff of the Royal Navy.

Do you think you can get some of our men in those positions, Bernie?" he deliberately chose to use the one nickname Senator Allenby absolutely despised.

"You just make sure to have another assassin team ready, should we need it." Allenby said with a laugh.

Recent photo of Fleet Admiral Lord Phillip Rosecrans

A thrity-one year vetern of the Royal Navy, Lord Rosecrans is the secondly most highly decorated military officer alive, surpassed only by retired Field Marshal Otto von Gersten.

First as Chief of Staff of the Royal Navy and then as both National Security Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Joint High Command Council, Lord Rosecrans has supported civilian control over the military, the lessening of the command ability of the Joint High Command Council, and decreased interference from the Nationalist Union Party in the Royal Senate. While the Fleet Admiral tries to avoid public political comments, he has numerously voiced his dissaproval of the ruiling NURP Coalition.

Our political observers note that the election of Lord Rosecrans, a close personal friend and ally of the Grand Duke, indicates that the Nationalist Union Party and their allies in the Royal Senate may be losing power. When asked for a comment on his failed push to get Congressman Robert Crane appointed Defense Minister, President of the Royal Senate, Senatory Allenby refused to issue a comment.

On a personal side the new Defense Minister has three children, two of which...[broadcast continues]
