I'm a bit puzzled as to how using NS populations makes sense to people trying to play real life nations.
I RP as the UK of GB and NI, and use the real population regardless of what my profile says... that seems to make a lot more sense, I think. It wouldn't feel like the UK if I had four hundred and sixty million people. I don't really want to hijack something if it's in full swing, but if you're interested in playing a real life nation I can tell you that it's not that hard to do, and you aren't doomed just because your population is reduced (in my case to around sixty million). It works best to ignore things like Earth II or III or whatever else, and be fluid about who you recognise in each part of the world, taking it one RP at a time. You're also welcome to come to The Globe (my new region) and take up a place as one of the real life nations of earth, as I have done (or even to remain outside the region and play as a real nation with its real population and real history, and to be recognised by myself and anyone else who cares to join in).

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like a funny half measure to be real nations with completely arbitrary populations, and also likely by going to some other RPG to lose you contact with a lot of good RPers.

Blah, anyway, carry on, whatever works.

Whew, I was starting to think that maybe I'd over-stepped my mark a bit, there.
Well, on the off chance that you ever decide to RP in NS as a real-world-like Greece (with all of what, ten or eleven million people?), the UK (with all of sixty million) will probably be happy to recognise you as a friendly European neighbour.
It'd be nice if we were at the birth of a new era in which people play with realistic and managable populations, and treat real-world nations as something other than a lot of defenceless puppies to roll-over. Ah well, we'll see.
