Shattered Peace (VERY open, first time RP)

OOC: This is my first RP, I hope I get everything right :D

Life is good.... This thought swirled through Mikhail Golovko's head as he travelled to the High Council Chambers. Although thousands of his country men had died and many more had been forced into exodus, it seemed as if the old, imperial ways of his country had died and now democracy had finally taken hold. Like a great oak expanding it's roots throughout the ground, democracy had finally stabilized his country. He, as the Chancellor and leader of his country, would be the one to lead his people to into their glorious future. In 10 or 20 years his country would truely be able to rise above it's past and take it's place among the community of nations...

As his driver, Vitaly, turned the car to the gates of the Council chambers, the gurads, belonging to the 1st Guards Division , immediately recongnized the car and sanpped to attention. The 1st Guards, Golovko thought, that was my division during the great revolutionary war, when we overran those imperialistic bastards and when my countrymen were freed.

"Comrade Chancellor!" one of the guards, a Lieutennant, said in a brisk tone," please proceed."

The chancellor nodded and smiled at the young Lt. It was cold this morning, he thought with a chuckle.

The government limousine pulled towards the inner doors of the magnificent 5 story building, the chambers were on the top floor. Suddenly, a horrific blast rocked the morning air and Golovko looked up to see the crystal skylight on the roof shatter and saw flame shoot out of it.

"Oh my god..." Vitaly started to mutter.

Several of the outer gate guards flanked the chancellor's car, rifles in hand, as another platoon of the Chancellary Guards hastily formed up and dashed towards the building. A few moments later a LAV-III Armoured Carrier pulled up right next to the Chancellor's vehicle and several soldiers hopped out of the back. They opened the Chancellor's door and pulled him out.

"Comrade Chancellor, you must come with us."

"But I must stay.."

"No, sir," one of the soldiers bellowed, drowning out the chancellor's voice,"You MUST come with us now!"

The Chancellor was thrown into the back of the LAV and it sped off.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several hours later a burned piece of paper was found buried amongst the rubble of the council chambers. It read:

You will pay for your discretions against the Czar. He is the one of god among us, and those who oppose him will be destroyed

Signed,
The Hand of The Czar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day a grim faced Mikhail Golovko appeared on National television channels.

"My fellow countrymen", he said,"Yesterday, an attempt was made upon the High Council and myself by a person or persons calling themselves The Hand of the Czar. 2 members of the High Council janitorial staff were killed while cleaning the chambers. They will become martyrs of the state and will justify our conviction to finally end the oppression that has reigned us for so many years." The chancellor then directly stared into the camera

"This was a dastardly, cowardly attack. We will not allow this sort of terrorism to run free in our land. You may run, but we will find you and you will be brought to justice. Thank You.

The chancellor then stepped down from the podium and walked off screen.

Communists, thought Magistrate-General Claudius Crassus, are just annoying. Always complaining about the free market economy, revolting against themselves, and now it seems, blowing up their own places of government.

He sighed as his heavily armored limousine turned a corner, bringing the lead pair of black sedans of his escort into view.

The only question that should really concern me at the moment is: "Can my country take advantage of the situation in the sadly war torn country of Terraniam?" Probably not. While both my country and - he checked the report again - that of Chancellor Golovko are both insanely tiny by the standards of the world, his is less so. Two million people more than us.

Yet... Terraniam is weakened after its civil war. Perhaps my Legions stand a chance. As quickly as it had come, the thought faded. Chancellor Golovko's men are more experienced than mine for that same reason. He sighed. The best course of action would be to wait and see if this 'Hand of the Czar' proves destablizing enough for more interesting options to be taken. He might throw the government into chaos, or even instigate a counter-revolution! The thought seemed overly-optimistic, but gleeful. Varrus needed land to truly become an Empire. Perhaps it would acquite that land sooner than many thought.

OOC: I'm not a communist nation. I just use "comrade" for the sake of using it.

IC: "So General Yamov," the Chancellor motioned towards his defence minister,"how will we go about removing this scourge from our nation?"

"Well comrade chancellor, such an enemy is very elusive. There is little viable military application for this type of foe in that massive deployments are of little use."

"So then what would you suggest?" grumbled Pavel Petrov, the Minister of the Interior. The military's mess would invariably be his to clean up.

"We must first locate these people. Doing so would require un-conventional means of intellingence, such assets we have little of. The good news is that once located we will be able to track and eliminate them very easily. Our smart bombs and guided missles are very accurate."

"And what if you miss!" yelled Minister Petrov,"you could be condemning innocent citizens to death. These 'smart' bombs are no smarter than those who operate them."

"How dare you call our nation's soldiers competence into question!" the Defence Minister shot back.

"Comrades, comrades," the chancellor said,"I am sure our men are fully capable in their duties. Now, comrade minister",he motioned to the defence minister,"how soon can you find these people for us."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several days later a narrow burst transmission was intercepted at a government listening station in northern Terraniam

"Comrade Lieutennant! We have an incoming burst transmission from an unknown source", a young private said while staring at his receiver terminal.

"Well decode and triangulate from the source. Do it fast before we lose the signal", the lieutennant ordered.

"Yes, sir"

A moment later the printer terminal hummed and whirred and spat out a sheet of paper which read

OOC: Can i join, i have had an idea, like my intelligence service gets a feed on that message also and then attempts to locate and investigate.

And i like the rp so far

IC: Premier Németh was up early that day, and just caught the end of the news report, hmm, he mused to himself, i had better get some intel on this, and betyer have security reviewed at Celtayoshi House. He knew this was pointless, security was always under eview at Celtayoshi House.

Soon after breakfast he gave a short press release containing the following,
"Ladies and gentlemen, in the nation of Terraniam, a rather new nation, a terrorist group has commited a terrible crime, we do not know the numbers of wounded, or indeed who the terrorists are, but our hearts go out to the people of Terraniam, they have our support if the need it.2

OOC: Sure, anyone can join basically. TG me with your ideas

IC:

Minister Valeri Yamov was sitting in his cabinet office. He stood up and looked across the street and saw the High Council chambers. The skylight was still shattered and much of the 5th floor was almost completely destroyed and some parts still smoldered. Nekulturny Swine he thought. Someone knocked on his door

"Comrade Minister", his aide said, "General Gennady Badurrin is on line 1.

"Thank you, Mishka....Gennady Badurrin", he heartly said," what news do you have?"

"Minister, listening station 2Z-A has just copied some rather...interesting traffic from a transmission. I think we've found this Hand of the Czar group. You must see this, I will send it to you immediately."

"Good comrade, very good...Mishka!"

"Yes, comrade minister?"

"Call the Council together immediately!"

"Yes, minister" The aide then ducked out and made the neccessary arrangements.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

30 minutes later the High Council met in a conference room in the Ministry building which had become their makeshift council chambers.

"For what reason have you called us together, Valeri?"

The minister then relayed what he had heard from the general,"Comrades, we have reason to believe that this Hand of the Czar is now or has been in the city of Ivanograd."

"If this is true than we must act on this comrades", the chancellor began to say.

"But Ivanograd is a populated center of 3/4 of a million people. We cannot allow bombs, our own none the less, to be dropped on that city."

"Specioal Forces?" the Chancellor said

"That is an option, comrade", the defence minister replied

"We have also had offers from several nations to help us investigate these... people", Sergei Alekseyev, the foreign minister chimed in.

"No, we cannot allow these foreign devils to meddle within our nation!" the Minister of Interior growled.

"Are you forgetting, comrade, that views like that led to our oppression before?" the Foreign minister said.

"Well comrades", the Chancellor said,"what is clear is that we cannot sit here and do nothing. We must do something fore if what Valeri says is true, than we will have another attrocity to bear. So, we will accpet the help of other nations and we will also deal with this in our own way. Minister Petrov, order the Federal Security Agency to keep the area in question in Ivanograd under surveillance. We will meet tomorrow to discuss further what to do."

The cold morning frost bit at John R. Nako's hands as he walked briskly down 15th avenue. The scattered glass from the building crunched beneath his black boots, it was a satisfying sound. The whole area of 15th avenue, which had once been a bustling urban metropolis, had a sullen quiet tone to it since the attack.

A small black taxi crept slowly through the street. Nako signalled it, it drew over to the sidewalk, close enought, just enough to avoid the glass. He gave the driver a wink and a nod, and slipped an envelope into the open glove compartment, the driver shut the compartment and locked it with a key. The driver, in return gave Nako a nod, a smaller, bulkier, envolope and sped off again. Nako smiled quietly to himself he opened the envelope, a wad of cash and a telegram fell out. He put the cash in his pocked and looked at the message;

we have confirmation-the score is settled----Yuri Cahn 'The hidden Hand'

Nako scrumpled up the paper and turned. The silver barrel of a M50 glared down at him, I'm afraid I can't let you leave said the man behind it. Nako smiled and let out a laugh, I'm inclined to disagree and pulled out a berretta concealed in his coat pocket. The man backed of a little, his voice slighty weaker now, We know your behind this John. Nako took his gun, pulled out the magazine, and put it to the floor, I'm all yours he smiled wryley arrest me, the man edged closer arrest me said Nako again his voice now more imposing than before, again the man edged closer godammit, arrest me he said his voice patronising, the man stepped forward and Nako's fist met with his face, To slow he said as the man fell to the floor. Nako opened up one of his pokets and took out a badge SIA? Nathen Scivorskey, Married, 2 Children? My my Nathan you do get around don't you He spat on him, Nathen groaned. We won't be telling anyone about this little incident will we? Again Nathen groaned, Nako shook his head No Then pulling out a knife from his Jacket stabbed him twice in the chest. Nako crept away again, into the alleyway.

The room was dark aside from a flicker from a small television screen.
With spartan furnishings there was only room for one man sit.
A large man distorted by shadow gazed at the screen, while what appeared to be an aid stood just behind his left shoulder.
They watched..

The chancellor then stepped down from the podium and walked off screen.
"This was three days ago sir." the young man that stood at heel spoke softly.
"What other information do we have? Please tell me this was not brought to my attention without following proper procedures." The man in the chair spoke, though his staement was worded as a question there was never any doubt that expected to not have to ask, and if he did ask...he already knew the answer.
"Sir, directly after the attack we dispatched a Heavenly Archer Phantom
to the area, we now have three in revolving loiter positions. This is the addtional information they have received."

"Of course."
"As well sir this snipit of a phone conversation was captured."

"Minister, listening station 2Z-A has just copied some rather...interesting traffic from a transmission. I think we've found this Hand of the Czar group. You must see this, I will send it to you immediately."

"Good comrade, very good...Mishka!"

"Number One, I want a HALO team up and in the air, Use a Heavenly Archer to insert."

"Begging your pardon sir, but is'nt a HA a dangerous insertion, wouldnt a CPA be a more logical choice? Again begging your pardon."

The seated man did not budge or even direct his gaze towards the young man.
"Send a CPA, I want it to cruise at 30,000ft, have an Archer HALO team in the Loiter rotation just in case."
"Very good sir."
"Indeed Number One."
The young man was aware that at 30,000ft the danger wasequal be the insertion done by CPA or an HA. However this was the man's comprimise, he wouldnt give another.

"Hello?... Where? How? Well so much for concealing yourself, eh? Yes Mr. Lurisov, but you have to understand, what with the bombing and all we are really very busy now...What? SIA...Who the hell is that? Yes, we'll be right over."

Lieutennant Vladimir Andropov of the Terranograd(capital city)Police Departmenmt sighed. 3/4 of his men were already investigating the bombing at the council chambers and now some poor SOB had been stabbed and had bled out on the street. Ahh well he thought, such is my life.

"Sergeant!" he bellowed,"there has been a murder on 15th avenue.

"So, who gives a shit, we're kind of busy now", he replied.

"Yes, sergeant, but this guy is said to have a badge on him claiming he is part of the SIA, whatever that is. The guy who witnessed the whole thing said that just before th murder the assailant had exchanged envelopes with a man driving a taxi...no license plate number though."

"Figures."

"Yeah, well let's go."

Just then, the lieutennant's phone rang and he picked it up.

"Lieutennant Andropov."

"You may be getting into something that is over your head."

"What in god's name are you talking about."

"Think about it, you may be getting into more than you can handle. You may be stepping into places that you shouldn't. Think about it."

"Uh huh, who are you budd--" The receiver on the other end clicked and the phone went dead.

"Well that was weird", the cop said as he walked down towards his car.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Andropov arrived at the scene, he notice alot of soldiers patrolling. One of them motioned for him to stop.

"Please, comrade, you cannot come any further."

"I am Lieutennant Vladimir Andropov of the Terranograd Police and I am investigating a murder."

"Not anymore, this is a federal case. Please, you must leave."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Andropov was returning to his precinct a car pulled up beside his. The man inside rolled down the window. Just as Andropov looked over, the man pulled out a small SMG and fired into Andropov's car. The cop got hit in several different places and was killed almost instantly, his last image was of the car's back end as it sped away.

This would work...

Yuri Cahn, disguised as a member of the 5th Guards Mechanized Division, strolled into it's base at the head of the Yamonov river. In his military pack he held a nuclear device, a small one at that, but it would do it's job. He had gotten throught the outter gates of the base without so much as a second glance from the guards stationed there. He looked back at the guard shack, when one of the guards picked up a phone, stared at him, then put it down.

"Hey you", he shouted gruffly,"come here a minute. Show me what's in that sack you're carrying."

Yuri smiled and said,"I must die to make men free." The soldiers unslung their AR-36K rifles and walked towards him. "He revealed the detonation trigger that was concealed on his arm,"This is the culmination of my being, I will kill the infidels of this land and one day we will be free." He closed his eyes as he pressed down on the trigger.

"Oh sh--", one of the guards began to utter as the nuclear device detonated and vaporised everything within a 10 mile radius, including the small town of Novosk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Comrades", Chancellor Golovko appeared on national television for the second time in a week.

"As many of you know there has been a sudden wave of terror that has hit our nation. First the bombing of the Council Chambers and today..." he paused,"..today, a nuclear detonation at Camp Simanov which killed almost all 10,000 members of the 5th Guards Mechanized Division as well as the 15,000 inhabitants of the nearby village Novosk. 25,000 people, that is a horrific number comrades. Today, we have no choice. After conferring with the High Council and after a unanamous vote, I have declared Marshal Law. Anyone seen on the street after 10:30 pm and before 8:00 am will be shot on sight. No one will leave our enter our country until these...these animals are brought to justice. Thank You."

Air Celtayoshi Flight ACY346
During the blast Agent Franz Sergetov (now operating as Fraez Goodwin) of the CYSIS was aboard an Air Celtayoshi flight directly to Terraniam. However, he was watching the inflight news when he heard of the nuclear detonation. Now his trained mind went to work, he needed to be on the ground, but that would be in a neighbouring nation, the area had been closed off. Damn he thought, this complicates things.
On his arrival he went immediately to a cab and got a cheap motel. His only baggage was his hand luggage, which contained what anyone else would carry, and his suitcase, which ceratinly was not what any ordinary person would carry, were in the corner. With a dimed light on, the door locked and the curtains pulled shut he opened his communications gear, for the hundredth time he blessed the CYSIS good relationship with Air Celtayoshi that allowed him to carry all he needed. His reply was what he thought "gain entry to Terraniam asap"

OOC:Terraniam How much land border do you have, and what are its defenses if it does exist.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

"We must do something."

"We are minister, the CYSIS has one of its best agents attempting to get in," replied MoI to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"What do you mean trying?" replied the man.

"Well sir, you see, he was mid flight when the detoantion happened, his palne was diverted, he can get in, but it may take some time."

"Ensure that he does, we must trace this grup, they are very dangerous and cannot survive any longer!"

http://img83.exs.cx/img83/6650/Terraniam1.jpg

Red lines represent borders

Blue lines are rivers

Red dots are cities and other RP sepcific places

Although we don't have any border defences we have border guards( about half a platoon 10-15 men + 1 LAV III per station) at border crossings. However. each black dot represents a military base of the TDF(Terraniam Defence Forces) which houses a mechanized infantry division plus attachments (usually a tank company, attack helicopter squadron, logistics company, field engineer company and military police platoon).

'Fraez' observed his map, he decided that it would be best to cross away from the large rivers, and open plains. After gathering up his stuff he disposed of his hand luggage, well, he wouldn't be needed that again.

Crossing at around 2am he crept quickly and silently, his was wering the clthoes expected of a student backapcking, although due to the curfew that would only work during the day. He crossed the border without being detected, although he had to stay cramped in a hole for about thirty minutes while a sniffer dog patrol passed by. Once in he proceeded to the nearest town, where he hoped he could catch a bus to as close to 23-57N 79-21E
as he could, before walking the rest and finding an observation post. He planned for this to take about a day, he would begin his investigation soon after.

OOC: 23-57N 79-21E is that a built up area or countryside?

OOC: Not communists? Blast it. My mistake. Sorry about that.

Magistrate-General Claudius Crassus grimaced as he tossed yet another intelligence report onto his desk. He sighed and put his boots up on the table. When his radio intercepts and research teams could make mistakes about the political affiliation of a foreign country, someone needed to be fired. Or executed.

The nuclear detonation was a mixed blessing for expansionist 'Empire' of Varrus. On the one hand, Terraniam was that much weaker, that much less prepared. That many more troops would be working in disaster-relief. On the other hand, there was that much less territory to conquer. Crassus weighed his options carefully.

Suddenly, he picked up the phone on his desk and pressed a button. The phone connected to his own was a 10 minute walk down through the Government District to a large building designed with a tasteful, neo-classical architecture in mind. It was a landmark, with or without the knowldege of the concealed machine guns and regular patrols. The Intelligence Operations Directorate was one of the more heavily guarded buildings in the country, and for good reason. Director Gaius picked up the ringing phone.

"My Lord?"

"Dear Gaius, I have a little op for you. I am going to be extending an offer of aid to Terraniam. Only, aid will not be the primary concern of the people you are going to send."

Director Gaius smiled. "I see, sir. Surveilance of their military and recconaisance, or sabotage?"

"I think we had best stick to keeping our eyes open at the moment. I'm going to be placing some Legions near our border with Terraniam... or our border with one of the countries that borders Terraniam. Whatever. I'll make it look nice and friendly, but I want you to have some maps and things available for the Legates and such if and when we move. We may not ever attack at all. Terraniam needs just on more little push before troops pour over the border."

Another smile. "Excellent, Sir. You will yet make our people proud."

-------------
"In other news, Magistrate-General Claudius Crassus publically extended a helping hand to the battered nation of Terraniam today. His generous offer of humanitarian contributions has not yet received a response from Terraniam, but we can all hope and pray that they accept our assistance. Aid workers are already standing by with food and medical supplies."

The news correspondent accepted a sheet of paper from off camera. "Additionally, His Lordship Claudius Crassus has deployed the First Legion near the border with Terraniam. Or the border with the country that borders both us and Terraniam. Whichever. The deployment totals at nearly 40,000 troops. Magistrate-General Crassus explains the mobilization as a step to ensure that the chaos in Terraniam does not spill over into our land. Additionally, Lord Commander Tiberius Publius was authorized to do 'all in his power to safeguard the future of the Varrian Empire.'"
--------------

OOC: Terraniam, do we share a border, or do I have to bully some non-existant third country into allowing troops through? If that happens.

Also, a Legion is the same thing as a Corp, which is a pair of divisions. A division has 10,000 men, so a Legion has 20,000 ish. Those'll be mechanized infantry with a disproportionately large artillery and tank contingent. Just FYI.

Also, are the troops you have at the bases the bulk of your Armed Forces, or are there many more? You can just make me find that one out for myself, if you want. Telegram me with answers if you don't want to clutter the thread up.

OOC: Incase I didn't mention it earlier, those coordinates are for a district in Ivanograd(see map).
Varrus, sure let's say you do share a border with me. Tell me which border you're on and I'll update the map.

IC: Just before the first flickers of dawn escaped over the horizon, 10 men of the Terraniam SOCOM, 3rd Battalion, D Compay, 1st platoon thundered over the Terraniam midlands toward Ivanograd in their H/T-60 Kasatka Helicopter. Their primary mission was to apprehend any and all suspects located by FSA agents at 37 Yefinemov Prospekt., the reputed headquarters where the orders had come to initiate the nuclear blast that had directly killed 25,000 people and was now indirectly responsible for the deaths of another 5,000. One of the commandos, Major Vasily Zeyetsev, was now preparing for his first actual combat since the Great Revolutionary War. The others, he thought, would be seeing their first time.

"2 minutes!" the pilot's voice crackled over the intercom. His erie green form visable with the commando's NVGs.

The suburbs of Ivanograd were now becoming visible over the horizon. Their target was located just NW of downtown Ivanograd. Now the buildings of the city were visible

"30 seconds"

It was close now, he could see the headlights of a few cars winding through the streets...Hmm, that's werid he thought. Ahh well, not my problem.

"10 seconds...Prepare for fast rope." The helicopter came to halt in mid-air as the ropes were pushed over the side. Officers lead the way, the captain was the first down as he slid down to the building roof and he was the first to fall as several men went fully automatic on their rifles.

The pilot swung the aircraft 90 degrees right and thus brought the helicopter's ACG-2 Chiangun to bear on the defenders. The crew chief oppperating the chain gun opened fire and tore apart the 5 man team of defenders. The rest of the assault team fast roped down onto the roof and secured the perimeter as the Kasatka began a low orbit of the perimeter.

"Get Captain Zeyetsev!" a sergeant yelled. A combat medic ran to the captain's side and saw two holes in the captain's leg and another 5 along his back. Damn, damn, damn he thought, the captain would bleed out before they could get him out. The medic took out a syrette of morphine and stabbed it into the officer's legs. "Comrade Capatin, stay here. We'll get you on the way out." The medic knew then, however, that the officer would be long dead before he got back but the drug enduce euphoria would keep him for realizing that for a minute or two.

The commandos found a door that led into the structure and descended the stairs into the building. They came to a door and throught various hand signals they were ordered to toss in a flashbang, blow the door, enter, and clear. The FSA agents had confirmed that the suspects were only on the top floor. A corporal placed an explosive on the door, while a private stood with a flashbang in hand. The corporal blew the door and almost simultaneously the private tossed the flashbang in. A split second later the commandos entered and cleared the room. There was no one there, one of the commandos looked towards the window and saw several men running towards a truck.

"Sergeant!" The man yelled," they're getting away."

The commando's then ran towards the windows and instantly opened fire. Many bullets hit the car as it sped away, but none seemd to incapacitate the driver as the car turned a street and vanished.

The commandos then secured the rest of the building until they found an old man. Enterprisingly enough, he had taken a photograph of the escaping terrorists and he thought he had gotten a shot of their leader. He took the commandos to his personal computer where he downloaded the pictures, they were shocked at what they saw next...The Minister of Interior, Pavel Petrov.

4 hrs later presidents house: A weedy looking man with glasses walked in flaked by 2 burly security gaurds he saluted the president and then said "Sir we have locted the possibility of the uraniam being mined in Austraillian. It is belived that this terrorist group the czar hand may have bought this from the japanise terrorist group zazami who as u know tested a nuclear wepon in the outback of australia the problem is is that if the nuke came from this group due to the amount of uranium they mined we estimate that at less 5 bombs could have been made. Now we know they tested one and they have probably sold one so that leaves 3 suppose they wanted to keep two for their own purposes that means they may have sold lat least one more to this group or if they wanted to cause a out cry they may have sold it to the opposite terrorist group who beleve that because of our previous relationships with the county we were responsible." the president butted in and said "well this is very serious news close off our borders with all other countrys nothing is to enter or leave this county without my prior consent. I now must brief the cheif of staff your dissmised" with that the technican wallked away

Fraez had to message the CYSIS soon, things were developing badly, after reaching the area he had found only snippets of information in the building, most of it useless. Except to say that he noticed in the trash a discarded notepad with several contacts. He decided to risk an unsecure call. He apporached the phone booth,

"+442867345690" The voice said

"Sorry, I am looking for +44287634690" said Fraez, who then hung up

He walked to a hotel and booked himself in for the night, due to the curfew hotels were offering cheap deals. Soon after he recieved a call to his mobile,

"Yes" the voice said once the line had been encrypted

"This is serious, we have parts of notepads detailing two more operations, the bad guys just fled sa I arrived, a distress call which i monitered, it seems Terraniam tried a spec op to apprehend some people which failed, details of that are unkown, except to say the car was one of many."

"That is no surprise, our government is preparing to offer military aid, and a SOD group is going in tonight, how is the border?"

"Easy if you are patient."

"Observe and remain hidden."

The line goes dead.

Well, so far we we have information that one op is happening on the listening post 2Z-A. Time to drop a line on the local cops.

At approx. 1pm, just as everyone is leaving for lunch Fraez walked up the stone steps to the police station and dropped his back before reporting his wallet missing, after filling our a form he then walked out, only someone who knew what he was doing would notice the bag left behind, and no-one would touch it until that evening when it would raise a few hairs with the police.

IC: "Comrades, it would appear that the head of this 'Hand of the Czar' is our Minister of the Interior, Pavel Petrov. Accordingly, I propose we declare him an Enemy of the State. If there is any opposition, please do it now. No?...Minister Yamov, after these meetings have been concluded please broadcast on all Official Channels that Former Minister Pavel Petrov has been declared an Enemy of the State and is to be treated as such. Comrade Alekseyev will be taking his place in addition to his current duties."

"Yes, comrade Chancellor."

"Very well, Minister Aleksyev?"

"Comrades, it appears Varrus has offered us aid and other humanitarian supplies. We should accept their gracious offer fore we were quite underprepared for such a disaster."

"Yes, I believe you are correct, comrade Minister", the Chancellor nodded,"Comrade Defence Minister, please detail an escort to them. We don't want them doing anything they shouldn't be doing, perhaps they are just being good neighbors but we can't trust anyone right now. Tell them it's for their own protection though."

"Yes, comrade Chancellor."

The new Minister of Interior spoke,"I believe it is time to lift the curfew that has been imposed. Instead, we will require all people outside after 9:00 pm and before 9:00 am to have proper identification or face imprisonment. We should, of course, leave the soldiers stationed in our cities where they are."

"Such action has risks, comrade minister", the defence minister quipped.

"Yes, but that may be the greatest objective of these terrorists. They want us to be looking over our shoulder every minute of every day. We need to stand up and say we are not afraid. We must show them our conviction, we must show them we are not afraid."

"Your passion is admirable, comrade, but it is mis-placed. If we relax our muscles now, we invite further attacks. Perhaps in the future, this will be possible, but not now. I am sorry comrades but you must see this. However, these past days have been rather hard on all of us. Some of you have not slept in many days, so I propose we suspend all High Council meetings tomorrow so that we may all rest. We will reconveene during this time if such an occasion warrants it and I believe it probably will but we can hope. Good day."

With that, the High Council got up and departed their makeshift chambers and left for various locations in and around Terranograd.

Oh-ho! The dominoes were falling like they were directed by the hand of lady luck herself! Claudius Crassus had had to struggle valliantly to not break out into fits of giggles over the simplicity of the plan and the naivity of the enemy.

Crassus was in the midst of pouring himself a generous snifter of brandy when the phone set into his desk rang. Director Gauis, yet again. "My Lord. The infiltrators have been airlifted into Terraniaman airspace disguised as members of the Varrian Red Cross. They have no weapons or devices of sabotage at the moment, for they would be too difficult to conceal. Surveillance equipment has been provided as well as discrete communications gear."

The Magistrate-General put down his drink for what he hoped would be the briefest of phone conversations. "And... if we were to decide that we wanted to... upgrade their capabilities in-field?"

"Well, we would ship weapons and explosives hidden among an aid shipment. Our operatives would be the first to access them, and so be able to use them suddenly and surprisingly. They could either attempt to kill whatever guards are assigned to them, or they could use just the explosives during the event of terrorist attack."

"Explain." Crassus eyed his drink fretfully.

"As aid workers, they would be the first to respond to, say, a bombing. Then, as their guards were distracted, say, carrying wounded out of a burning building, the majority of our operatives would provide assistance so as not to look suspicious, while a select few would inconspicuously drop satchel charges under ambulances, use silenced pistols to kill emergency coordinators, that sort of thing."

Crassus' stomach heaved at the thought of ordering the death of medical workers and civil servants. "I should hope that won't me required." His resolve hardened. "But if it must be done to ensure the future our Varrus, it shall be. now, I imagine you have work to do."

OOC: BTW, This is good. I'm thinking ideas of how to assert my country to this conflict, but heres a short post showing our intelligence starting up.

As the people settled into the room, Larf calmed them and then beckoned for his Defense Minister, Gorgev Kavorski, stood and began detailing his report.

"In some recent conflicts, it appears tension has begun to arise between Vorrus and Terraniam. While no official action has occured, it appears both sides are beginning Intelligence raids and monitors. While this is expected, it's very disturbing. With permission from the President and Senate, which I have, I've begun sending SOO units into both of those countries and investigating their strengths and actions, in the case war does break out. I'll continue updates as they come." And with that, the minister sat down and the meeting continued.

Nako crept along the road, his army beret pulled low over his head. The rest of the Terranium Central Heavy Arms Squadron Trudged around him. He would not be seen, he was sure of it.

General Stanhoen of the Terranium Central HA outpost, sat in his chair, rolling a cigar through his fingers, reading the latest instructions. His Liutenant, Lt. Cohen sat beside him, fiddling with a rifle, trying to get the loading sequence right. Across the other side of the tent lay Major. Matterson, leader of a country recently called in to help the defence, reading a Playboy concealed in a much larger newspaper.

Outside Nako had reached the outpost. The commanders tent was a little way ahead, atop a small rift in the hill. He'd separated a little way away from the rest of the Squad now, drawn away into the darkness. He cocked his gun, The same Beretta he'd pointed at that rookie SIA a while ago He laughed to himself, only a snigger though, laughing was out of line in Terranium. He attatched the silencer, locked, loaded and headed up toward the tent. Showtime

Meanwhile back at CYSIS headquarters the communications team was desperately trying to decypher the trnasmission sent by Terraniam ministers. However as they did not yet have the encryption code they could only try to 'brute force' which may never work, and would almost certainly take up to a day.

Meanwhile Premier Németh ordered that Terraniam be offered an emergancy aid package of food and vital medical supplies. He hoped that this would help in rebuilding the damage caused.

In Terraniam itself the Fraez was busy observing the Ministers leave and enter parliament, when they noticed something strange, the Interior Mininster seemed to have more protection around him, or was it surveillence? With that in mind he followed a small hunch at the back of his brain telling him to watch this man again, and he set about locating his home. To do that involved some discreet conversations communications with his base, who then looked up the info and reported back. Fraez took a taxi towards the ministers house, before getting off and walking past the the, well, mansion was what it really was. Unfortunately he did not see anywhere where he could observe, and so had to keep walking and find a way in.

That he did, a low point in the outer wall which was under some construction proved very easy to climb, that he did, with a quick look around. He had to risk it anyway, there was no way he would get the information any other way.

After gaining enterance he found a nice bushy garden to take up observation from.

A flight of 4 F/I-33 interceptors streaked through the skies of western Terrainiam at an alittude of 20,000 feet.

"Eagle Eye, this is Delta 221 requesting new bearing."

"Roger, 221." the sole Terraniam RA-2 AWACS aircraft replied,"turn port to course 285 and maintain angels 20."

"Roger, Eagle Eye, turning to course 285 and maintaining angels 20. 221 out."

The fighter planes turned port as one in their staggered 'V' formation.

As the planes approached the Terraniam/Varrus border, the lead plane noticed something. "November 221 to Eagle Eye. I've got a SAM search radar lighting us up."

"Roger 221, has he aquired you yet?"

"Negative, he's just searching---EAGLE EYE WE HAVE A SAM RADAR IN ACQUISITION. REPEAT, WE HAVE A SAM RARDAR ATTEMPTING TO AQUIRE US...REQUEST PERMISSION TO FIRE!"

"Negative 221. Where is it coming from?"

"No, no that can't be...it's coming from inside Varrus." Then, alarms started blaring in the pilot's cockpit. "Eagle Eye, I have been launched upon, repeat November flight has just beeen launched upon!"

Seconds later a SAM shot up from the earth and vaporized 221's aircraft."

"Tally-ho," screamed one of the pilots as he launched an anti-radiation missle.

The SAM site operators detected the missle's seeker head and switched off their radar. This ARM, however, wasn't stupid because it remembered the radar's location and sped towards it. It proceeded on it's high tech kamikaze as it detonated a few feet beside the radar receiver, destroying it and the technicians operating it, but not the SAM launcher.

"This is November 222, taking command, over," the pilot radioed,"November flight has successfully destroyed an enemy radar and is requesting new instructions."

"November flight, you are RTB until we get this sorted out. Steer vector 125, angels 10. Eage Eye out."

"Roger Eagle Eye, November flight RTB...Jesus, what the hell was that?"

Message Terraniam Varrus

Celtayoshi has noted that a minor conflict occured on the border with Terraniam/Varrus earlier today. We believe that it is important neither side gets too excited and so propose a no-fly zone extending into either side of the territory, as a neutral party we are willing to enforce this using our own aircraft operating of a flight deck, we could be ready within days. Durign this time an investigation can occur to estbalish the facts of the engagement. If our offer is declined we still encourage caution on the border.

IC: After the High Council had reconveened a day later, they were discussing various formalities when a military aide, a Colnel, burst in.

"Comrades, we have reports from one of our air patrols was attacked by a SAM site which was reportedly in Varrus."

"My god", said on of junior ministers.

"What happened?" said the Chancellor.

"One of our patrols was flying near the Terraniam/Varrus border when they were atacked, one of the planes was shot down and the pilot killed. One of our pilots then launched a Anti-Radar missle at the radar and destroyed it."

"How sure are they of this?" the Defence Minister queried.

"They are very sure, comrade. The signal originated over the border", the aide replied.

"Could they have stumbled into Varrus by accident?" it was the Foreign Minister now.

"No comrade, all of our fighter aircraft have flight recorders for much this purpose. They were checked and revealed that, although our planes came close, they did not cross the border."

"Minister Alekseyev send condloences to the man's family and then send a message to Varrus saying that although we regret the loss of life on both sides, they fired on our aircraft while they were still in our airspace. Formally request whomever is responsible to be punished...Bar that, I will go on TV tonight and say that."

"Yes, Chancellor."

"Very well comrades...Let us move onto other issues..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

That evening...

"My fellow countrymen", the chancellor said during a press conference," today one of our fighter aircraft was shotdown near the border between our country and the Empire of Varrus. We are deeply saddened at the loss of life on both sides we are afraid that the blame for this incident rests on their soldiers. We request that they conduct a full investigation into this incident and that reparations be made both for our lost aircraft and for the pilot's family. Although we welcome a third party to help keep the peace I speak for my nation only when I respectfully decline Celtayoshi's offer to establish a no-fly zone.

OOC: Agreed.

Faez was in some trouble, having gotten in to the interior ministers grounds, he was strugling to get out, he had established that he was being watched, but that also meant he would not be able to creep out again until the morning when the minister left for work. Due to security complications Fraez could not directly contact his operator, instead they had to be alert to contact him, but he had no way of doing this without getting away from here to make a phone call. It would be a long night, and he had nothing else for it but to rough it out in some bushes...

There was 30 seconds of electronic 'noise' over the line as his phone and the one on the other line fought with each other to synchronize. Then an electronic voice came on the line and said,"Line is clear."

"Yes?"

"Valeri? It is Sergei."

"Ahh yes my old friend, what can I do for you tonight?"

"I fear that someone is following me. Although my guards have no physical evdence, they suspect it nonetheless. Is there anything that can be done?"

"Well, your hous is swept for electronic surveillance equipment every day and you, of course, have some sort of protection with you at all times?"

"Yes, Alexei is with me almost always and..." he felt his 9mm pistol in his jacket.

"Yes I also have more...less visible protection if an occasion should warrant it."

"Well Sergei, there is nothing more that you can do I'm afraid. We all have to put that out of our minds as best we can. As you know, such jobs as ours will always attract people to us whom we do not want there but it is the risk we take. Just don't be careless with any material of a 'sensitive' nature. They all had very innocent names: the Circumference, the Salmon the Applebee, the Oak and the Ark and to anyone but the most scrutious person they appeared to be fishing trawlers. Even then, it wasn't entirely odd for deep-sea fishing boats to have large antennae. These antennae, however, weren't used for sending, but for receiving and had been budgeted as a low cost ocean early warning system against enemy naval vessels. Their real job was to pick up ESM and radio transmissions from an enemy battle group and during the early hours of the morning they set off from their berths and out to begin pre-determined search patterns.

Two days ago word had come the higher-ups that a foreign nation had offered to set up a no-fly zone using a carrier battle group, which had been rejected. Although it was considered extremely low on the ebb of probability that this nation would still try, the politicos, as they seemed to always be, were getting nervous and they wanted to know, if at all possible, the groups location should it approach. They all knew that a CVBG is extremely hard to track, let alone find but they had their oirders and they didn't relish the alternative as they slipped out of the naval base and towards the horizon.

OOC:Terraniam, Tgd with information. However the Stealth aircraft I am using and the Altitude they flying reduce the chances of detection and being shot down.
I did however want to mention that the best time detection is likly is during rotation as screening you parimeter is more likly to notice something coming or going as opposed to Loitering. Also I dont what Celtayoshi has in you area but if he is begining to monitor air traffic it is likly (since I am maintaining constant air presence) that the older nation would have greater detection capabilities.

OOC: In case you didn't know Temujinn, I pretty much have a no-fly zone in place over my country. This entails that no aircraft, such as airliners, are allowed to fly over. Only aircraft with authorization (Terraniam government/military aircraft) are allowed access. So let's say that during the airliner's electronic malfunction, they staryed into Terraniam airspace.
I also wasn't planning on finding your stealth aircraft, maybe in the near future one of my patrols will stumble upon it. I'll TG you if I plan to RP this.

IC: "Temujinni Flight 233, this is TDF Flight Romeo 17, you have violated our no-fly zone. You will be escorted to the nearest airbase or you will be shot down."

There was a pause and then a crackled voice filled with electronic static came over the frequency," Roger that Romeo flight, we'll follow you."

The F/I-33 Interceptors formed up on the airline. One in front two on either side, and one behind.

"Okay Flight 223, folow us."

"Roger that Romeo flight."

"This is Romeo flight calling Papa Bear over."

"Roger Romeo, what's your status?"

"Papa, we have a Temujinn civilian airliner that has encountered electrical trouble. Request permission to bring the baby home, over."

"Roger 17, steer course 020, descend to angels 10, out."

"Roger Papa Bear."

In the cargo hold of the airliner, 5 commandos began to decompress their sealed section of the hold. The commander signalled the rest of his team and they went to their individual air supply. Then they waited for the red light by the jump door to turn to green. A few moments later the light changed and the commander jumped first, and as soon as he did he caught a glimpse of 2 fighter planes. One to his left, the other in front and above him as he began his plummet to the earth. It wasn't dark enoguh yet, they've probably seen me. Damn...

As the planes decended through 20,000 feet the rear escort saw 5 black objects fall from the lower half of the plane."

"Lead, this is 4", the rear plane said over the flight channel,' I have visual of four black objects falling from the airliner."

"What the hell...This is Romeo 17 to Flight 223. We have visual conformation of four objects falling from your aircraft. Is everything all right?"

Oh crap... the pilot thought, it wasn't dark enough yet. "Uhh...roger that Romeo, we have warning lights coming up all over the place. We're going to have to come right in to land."

"Okay 223...Papa Bear, this is Romeo. Flight 223 has lost some debris off it's lower side and we're going to need to bring them straight in."

"Roger that Romeo, bring straight in. emergency teams are waiting. Papa Bear out."

"Okay 223, you're cleared straight in to land."

"Roger 17, wish us luck, out."

"Good luck, 223."

The airliner touched down at the airbase and rolled to one of the gates. The passengers were quickly filed off the aircraft. Many were still totally unaware of what had happened. There were over 600 passengers in addition to the 10 crewmembers. Only 2 people knew the real reason for their diversion. This massive influx of visitors were herded into a hanger.

Maeanwhile, a team of repair technicians scoured the bottom of the aircraft looking for where the debris could have come from. They found nothing to explain what had happend.

The technicians returned to the hangar with an escort of MPs to take the pilots into custody for interrogation. When they returned, the pilots were gone...

The plane lurched suddenly upwards as engines accelerate.
"Son of b*tch!! They will shot us down. What are you doing Tom???"
"It isnt me!!!"
"Nose down, press nose down"
The two men heaved their bodies against the controls, as the egine noise become overwhelming.
"This is flight 233 we are in serious trouble..."
Suddenly without warning the aircraft released its tulmtuos climb and hit a steep dive as the ment were leaning in on the Yoke.
The engines stopped, the consoles went black.
"Dave??!!??"
"This is flight 233, I am afraid your course isnt going to be do able, we are coming in dead."
"Dave???"
"I need verbal direction away from population centers, this is a crash."
The pilot fixxed his vision out the wind screen. The looked of panick left his face.
"Land the fecking plane Dave!!!!"
"Flight 233, Carrying 124 passengers 9 crew aside from Myslef and my Co-pilot"
"Feck you Dave!!!, Land the plane"
"Be advised, We are out of control, I have a dead stick."
"Dave!!!!"

The sounds of a man screeming carried the plane almost all the way to the ground, the radio on the entire time.
then suddenly and for reason the instrument panels lit up, the stick became responsive, the engines fired, all was as it should be.
The Captain brought the plane back from the dive , and raised his speed as high as it could go without looking like he was running...he wanted to get where ever they were going before the plane changed its mind.
"Feck you Dave, from the heart, feck you."

The strains of the Ave Maria wafted through Magistrate-General Crassus' office. He stood in front of his floor-to-ceiling window, watching the motionless courtyard below. Of course, he wasn't standing at the window. He was standing at a huge projection of the window in his "war office" eight stories under the ground. In fact, the entire part of the city where the government and military buildings were was a vast network of subterranean defensive positions, complete with SAM launchers and heavy artillery concealed under wide-open spaces like public parks and urban highways.

He spoke to his adjundant tersely. "So what is it?"

No one liked to see a powerful man in bad mood. The adjundant was no exception, though, he reflected, it was unfathomably worse to deliver bad news to one. "Signal intercepts, as well as foreign press releases indicate that there are major powers observing the Terraniam conflict, as well as those actively operating inside it and tendering aid to the Terraniam government." He cleared his throught. "They're obstructionists, sir."

'Obstructionist' was a Varrian term used in military circles to denote those nations which bridled at Varrus' pursuit of her destiny.

"This is unfortunate, my friend. We will need to construct some semblance of 'legitimacy' to our actions if we are to escape the wrath of these 'super powers', these 'democracies.'" He sighed. "We'll do the SAM trick again. Only, this time, you must destroy the entire squadron on patrol. Have a squadron of SU-34s standing by to pick off survivors. But keep them out of radar range of Terraniam until the SAMs have fired. Don't forget to set the radar up by itself again, so none of the AA technicians get hurt." He turned. "Is there anything else?"

"No, my Lord. Nothing." The adjundant was enourmously glad that the Magistrate-General was taking it so well. "I will have the orders delivered by hand so as to prevent any of the more advanced nations from intercepting." He saluted, klicked his heels together and retreated.

Well. We'll arrange for a press release to the affect that the first Terraniam fighter was downed by a tragic accidental misfire. Some sort of power surge, or something. Claudius grinned savagely. And now, I will prepare another briefing condemning the acts of aggression from Terraniam that resulted in the deaths of their pilots. Oh, and...

He reached for the phone to Director Gaius.

OOC: Terraniam, please check your telegrams. Also, neither of the press releases or the attack have actually "happened", yet. I'd like to do those myself, by Terraniam and I need to chat to preclude godmodding on my part.

OOC: The plane that was shot down by Varrus landed inside Terraniam borders.

A platoon of Terraniam Defence Forces Army soldiers trudged along the somewhat rocky terrain of the Terraniam-Varrus border. Their official orders were to search and recover any debris of a 'sensitive' nature from the downed F/I-33, however they had also received orders to scout and reconoiter the border for any increased signs of Varrusian(?) military activity. THe Mil Mi 26 'Halo' thundered above them as it searched for any large pieces to store in it's cavernous cargo hold. It saw several large pieces in a depression, but the helicopter was too large to fit in.

"Overwatch to ground team...We've found several large pieces 2 clicks NNW of your current position. Advise they're in a depression so you'll have to climb down ."

"Roger overwatch, we're heading there now", the platoon leader then beckoned to his men,"Come on, let's get moving."

As they approached the depression the helicopter began a
slow, arcing orbit over the debris. The platoon began to descend the side, using rocks as foot and hand holds. The last soldier slammed his foot down on a rock at the bottom and it made a hollow 'clank'.

"Huh? That's weird...Hey, over hear, there's something in this rock."

"Ivan, you've been at that vodka again. I told you, heh."

"Shut up and come here. There's something behind it."

As Ivan began to crouch down, he heard a sound that registered only as the cocking of an automatic rifle. He didn't even have time to think before 7 fully automatic rounds tore into his body. He screamed out in pain before he died, seconds later.

"What the hell was that?" the platoon leader thoght aloud. He new perfectly well what it was, there little else it could have been.

"Take cover!" he screamed as his men dashed behind various boulders of different sizes.

"Over watch, this is gound team", he shouted into the radio,"we have automatic weapons fire coming from a concealed position."

"Roger that, give me your SITREP."

"One's dead, everyone else is pinned down."

Several bullets glanced off his concealment, inches from his head. Then the platoon leader saw a young soldier pop up and throw a grenade at the rock, seconds before being cut down by weapons fire. The grenade detonated centimeteres from the rock and the firing ceased.

"PLATOON, OPEN FIRE!!!!" the leader yelled. Every platoon memeber went fully automatic on his rifles as hundreds of bullets tore into the rock..well it wasn't a rock.

"CEASE FIRE, CEASE FIRE."

They approached the covering which appeared to be made of cloth and some other, unknown material. The tore it off and found a body with many bullet holes all over his body, the steaming machine gun beside him. More interestingly though, they found a massive amount of electronic equipment: NVGs, radios, a GPS tracker, explosives. The man was not wearing any form of identification, no divisional or country patches and all the equipment had had their labels removed.

"Ground team to over watch, get down here."

"Negative, we still have our orders."

"Fuck our orders, this is more important."

The captain was disturbed by the reports from his advanced submarine, someone was looking for them, and they were far from home, he got on the ships intercom, "This is the captain, all non-essential electronic equipment is to be switched off, we are now proceeding away from this area to a postion 500miles south. Battlestations will be at full strength until further notice, simulations will begin at 1800 hours today. Out."

Satisfied he began to move his carrier group out of the way, leaving one submarine behind to check the rear.

OOC: I should have been more clear in my tag, the PassengerLiner crew and customers are lgetimate, the plane itself was designed to do what it did, making the crew unable to comprimise the mission, while an early jump being also unliky because all you need is watch and know your airspeed to keep that from happening and the Jump were the only people on the plane who did know what was going on. Your fighter...They have no control over what so ever, So I dont mind being seen(I can roll with that). But The plane and Crew are 100% Civilian. That is what makes it an effective tactic.
IC: The five man team rocketed towrds the Earth. At 2000ft the powder gray and black chutes disappaered against the night sky.
They remain in the air for about another minute.
Capt.DutTran watched his men head towards the ground.

Cpl.Gua Shan was first done and began surveilling the area Passive Infared night vision, with thermal over-lay.
Lt.Osaka was second, he tuned up his scope and started scanning the area while Cpl.Gua Shan began watching the Sky.
Capt.DutTran bgan "We must operate under the assumption we have been spotted. We bring our packs with us for now, no fire from anyone, I will kill what needs to be killed." He Produced a small H&K 9mm silenced, from his pack, he slide into a shoulder holster.

OOC: Varrus, I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds with this, TG me if you want to add your feedback to this sub-plot.

IC: Jeez, this was going to get worse before this got better thought Ivan Eduardovich (who's cover name was John Edwards). He was a seasoned Foreign Intelligence Officer of the Terraniam State Security Ministry, First Directorate(Foreign Espionage Divison). However, he began his carrer as an officer of the Imperial Agency of Intelligence and Foreign Affairs. He was sitting at a cafe in the capital of Varrus looking over a status report hand delivered to him by the Ambassador at the Terraniam Embassy. He looked it over again just to make sure.

Relations between Terraniam and Varrus are becoming increasingly hostile. You are directed to aquire any information regarding recent developements. OPERATION SONGBIRD HAS BEEN AUTHORIZED.

Damn, this would get complicated. Well his cover job with the Xavier Computing & Electronics Company (XCEC for future reference) allowed him to put the songbird into place. 'Songbird' was a program that was designed to copy all contents on a hard drive, compress them and shoot them off to an e-mail account, Eduardovich's in this case. Since it was embedded in the OS of every computer it was extremely hard to find, let alone remove and only activated after 5 hours of inactivity. This time it was in the OS of a modified Xavier CS2075 computer which the Varrusian government had oredered from his company. He folded the printout and took an order sheet with the Xavier company logo emblazoned on the top. Hmm...today he would be visitng the office of a..Director Gaius, that name sounded familiar. Ahh well he thought, he wasn't being paid by the hour but at least he got two paychecks every month.

He pulled up across the street from the Varrusian Intelligence Agency building, it's top covered in barbed wire and machine gun nests.

"Execuse me sir", a uniformed man approached Eduardovich (well, Edwards in this case),"what business do you have."

"My name is John Edwards and I'm with the Xavier Computing and Electronics Company. I'm here to meet with someone regarding a computer purchase for Direcor Gaius' office."

"Wait here", the guard walked back to the front guard station and picked up a phone. A few moments later he returned to Edwards," Very well, you may enter."

Edwards entered the front lobby and deposited all his metallic items in a cup and walked through the metal detecor. He gathered his belongings on the other side and proceeded to the front desk. He cleared his throat and the guard looked up, "Yeah, what do you want?"

"Director Gaius' office please."

"Top floor."

"Thank You"

Edwards approached th elevbator and hit the call button and soon after entered the elevator and hit the button for the top floor. He emerged in a plush hallway. He walked up to a desk with a civilian behind it.

"My name's John Edwards ma'am and I'm here to see Director Gaius'"

"The Director is busy, so we will talk."

"Very well... The CS2075 is our top of the line machine. It has dual wireless internet and networking connections."

"Why two different connections?"

"It offers dual connectivity so that optimum speed can be achieved."

"Ahh, ok I see..."

"Yes and each unit comes with a personal encryption unit that uses random characters to encrypt files. This system provides greater protection against un-authorized users."

"Why is this encryption system better than others."

"Because this system uses random characters it has billions of possible combinations rather than a set list. It can only be deciphered by a system with the same system."

The two then discussed several other technical details and at the end the secreatary stood up," I will speak to the director, I believe he will be most pleased and will authorize the purchase."

"Thank you very much ma'am."

"Good bye Mr. Edwards."

What this secreatary wouldn't have known was that each computer would now be sendingall it's data to Edwards' laptop. What she also didn't know was that the encryption system had actually been developed in a Terraniam computer lab and that Edwards had the deciphering software on his laptop.

He exited the building and walked to his parked car and drove away.

OOC: Oh, dear God. The forum almost lost my post. Oh my. I spent a lot of time on it. Anyway, this is going extremely well, guys. Three cheers!
IC:

Three things happened within an incredibly short span of time.

----------
"Sector 3b SAM installations, this is Fortress Command. Please acknowledge."

First Centurion Titus had been the lowest-ranking Varrian fully aware of the deception to bring down the first Terranian fighter. His immediate superior at Fortress Command (the Varrian organization that handles all defences - fixed and portable) had warned him that there would be more ops.

"Fortress Command, this is Sector Command. We acknowledge."

The land line was uninterceptable, untraceable, and conveyed the voice from Fortress Command without a hint of distortion. "Previously prepped Operation Birthright is now go. For the People. Over and out."

Titus deactivated the link and turned to his plotting board. A wing of Terranian F/I-33s had been on his screens for about twenty minutes now. There were five, as opposed to the usual three. It appeared no one was taking any chances.

Sector 3b was well within Varrian territory, but the heavy, subterranean SAMs Titus commanded were still within easy reach. The six SU-34s that were standing by would finish off the leftovers.

"Battery, prepare to engage." The Centurion's face was basked in a green light from his console, and he raised it to recieve acknowledgements from the individual battery commanders. He had them immediately.

"Engage at will."

There was a dull war while the actual launchers - hundreds of yards away, and secreted in rock and earth, flared to life. The Centurion watched a screen as his deadly charges darted into the night. He directed his attention to the plotting screen, and watched as the Terranian formation broke apart in a mad pattern of twists and turns. But in vain. Only one interceptor survived to streak away back towards home, and it had but moments to scream its story as the Varrian craft pounced from above.

----------

The second sordid event was the flight of the Varrian operatives masquerading as aids workers. Another shipment of foodstuffs had been airlifted in. The Jolly Green Giant helicopters that had dropped it off had manuevered as if this load was slightly heavier, but none of the guards noticed. The "Aid Co-ordinator" was the first to inspect the crates. The serial numbers were identical to the previous ones... except for the last digit. The Varrian frowned in thought.

"Comrade Captain! Would you help me with this, please?" As the newly minted Captain turned and strode toward the Varrian, the other spies and inflitrators noted their leader's tone and moved toward their pre-assigned Terranian guards, shielding their small combat knives from view.

"Comrade, what is it that-" the officer scrambled to draw his sidearm as the Aid Co-ordinator drew a Berreta 9mm and gave the captain a quick double-tap.

Guards whirled at the report, raising their weapons - but the Varrians were good, had surprise on their side, and had known what was coming. They all went down. One or two got off a shot, and a Varrian took their hits, but it was a clear victory for the agents. They immediately proceeded to collect their new explosives and weapons and started trudging to the first checkpoint.

The Co-ordinator looked around. "Who are we missing?" One of his men motioned with his light machine gun. The headless corpse was of a man they both had personally disliked. "Eh." Said the Co-ordinator as he hefted a block of C-4.

----------
MAgistrate-General Crassus perpetrated the third item himself. In front of the press, no less. He revelled in hoaxing the entire world. Not ONE person would know of his moves outside of the Terranian government. The planes, now well inside their own territory, would be in Varrian territory once his Legions had begun moving. And as for his sabotuers... he'd take care of that right here.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have no time for question, there will be a breifing later by the press secretary." Flash bulbs went off in his face. "Just hours ago, a quintet of Terraniam fighters invaded Varrian airspace. After many warnings that went tragically unheaded, they were destroyed. There were no Varrian combat casualties. This follows the previous invasion of our sovereignity earlier this month where we defended our nation against another foray into our space." He looked down to check his notes. "Also, in gross violation of human rights, the Terranian government failed to provide for the safety of our Varrian brothers and sisters working to care for our Terranian 'neighbors.' They are beleived to have perished, along with the bulk of their 'protectors' were attacked by terrorists calling themselves the 'Hand of the Czar.' This group, we now have reason to believe, is in fact run by the Terranian government to perpetuate their illegal rule over their innocent people!" He delivered the lie superbly, with just the right amount of righteous indignation. The dark muttering that had been gathering while he spoke rose to a pitch with angry shouts and fist-waving.

"These crimes against our nation - and against their own people, as well as human dignity - shall not go unavenged. It is with a heavy heart that I, in the office of Magistrate-General of the Empire of Varrus," he paused for affect. "do declare war on the nation of Terraniam."

----------

Back at his office, he spoke with his Minister of Defence, Lucius.

"My Lord, we must move quickly. The First and Second Legions, a total of 80,000 men, are the bulk of our military, if we forget calling up the citizen reserves for a moment. They will attack quickly, primarily with armor covered by close air support and heavy as well as rocket artillery. They must move quickly to reach the river running by Ivanograd. Once we take the land we need to make us great, we will use our superior defensive position and concentration of firepower to show the Terranians that they cannot budge us. Then, they will sign our treaty admitting responsiblity to the conflict, and we will have both the land we need, and a great victory. We may also have a foreign agent to support our covert efforts. Perhaps his government may even be willing to share the spoils! But this is not yet confirmed. Anyway, we will strike while their forces are spread about stamping out rebellion and chasing our inflitrators. The two bases we will encounter hold but little more than a division and a half each - and will hopefully be cut off from mutual support. Our 80,000 men will crush the piecemeal, depriving them of two of their fixed iinstallations."

Crassus gazed languidly out of his window, the Ave Maria playing in his head. "Excellent. Excellent. My grandchildren will hear great stories. Find this foreign operative. See if he will work with us, and see if his government will take this opportunity to further weaken the Terranians." He turned, grinning. "Now shoo - I have work to do."

OOC: Hope you don't mind me doing this and "being" the foriegn body that could aide your side against a superior force. Plus it fits into the story you've woven....and helps me get forum cred :D I'll get rid of this right away if I've been mistaken

It had been almost 3 AM in the morning when President Onsorn had recieved the urgent message from his staff. In grudgingly leaving his wife and home, he had taken the short 5 minute ride to the Capitol building and moved up towards the meeting room his staff and him had used as recently.

He had burst through the two double doors, still in his night clothes and with a nice robe tucked and sashed squarely around his body. His staff gave a few light nods and salutes as he sat at the head, passing a hand to rub at his still red eyes. Everyone sitting at the table seemed to be in states of hastily waking up. Save for the Defense Minister who Larf swore he had never seen sleep, everyone was in night clothes of some type, some of his women on his staff only placing on risque undergarments before coming to this emergency meeting.

"This better be important, or I'll have some heads to twist." The comment of course was a joke, and the laughs were light and wispy, which told Larf somethings was very wrong. His Minister of Defense stood hastily and cleared his throat.

"On the behalf of everyone here, I can assure it is very important. In fact, a decision that could effect the nation." He coughed again and then started in."A short while ago, our agent and his team placed in Varrus recieved a communication from the government there. It was a request for aid against their hostile neighbor Terraniam. It seemed sincere and geniuine. Our agents only wait for a response to convey." The Minister sat and though none of the heads seemed to turn, all the eyes were on him. He took off the reading glasses he had been wearing and glanced down, rubbing his eyes. He put them back on and turned to his staff.

"I see. Tell them this. Sarctic is in agreement with Varrus over this matter. However, Sarctic is ill prepared for open war. This is which why Sarctic is willing to compromise. We will place insurgency plans at Varrus's approval that could disrupt their enemy's ability to fight. We could act as a "Ghost Force" to supplement your own forces. However, at this time, shall we openly declare war. We await your response" As he dictated this, his staff wrote it down and began moving out to their assigned actions. The only one who remained was his Vice President Markov Brechen. The somber man turned to his good friend and spoke.

"Larf, are you sure this is the right thing to do?"

"I don't know Markov. Either way, I believe lives may be lost and it is always wise to take the lesser evil. The only thing in the balance now is fate......"

The Chancellor of Terraniam, Mikhail Golovko, walked towards the podium in the press room

"Ladies and Gentlemen", he said,"I will make a statement, but I have no time to answer questions. Earlier today the Empire of Varrus declared war upon the Republic of Terraniam. They have claimed that this is a consequence of attacking and invading their soverignty. I can tell you this is not true and that no such attacks were ever carried out, let alone contemplated. Although there have been no major clashes between our nation and the Empire of Varrus we believe this to be an imminent occurance. We therefore advise that anyone living within 75 miles of the Terraniam-Varrus border to evacuate if at all possible, those wishing to remain will be allowed to stay. Today, we make an appeal to the community of nations to stop Varrus from taking such action, however it would appear that such help is too far away to be of use. We also make an appeal directly to the government of Varrus: Cease this hostility between our nations and let us discuss this matter as civilized leaders should, we ask nothing else, just the opportunity to avert needless bloodshed. As a sign of good faith, we will be shuttling out all Varrusian and other foreign citizens from Terraniam to their respective countries through a third party country.

However, it appears as if the government of Varrus does not wish to hear such ideas. Therefore, tonight, I am authorizing the activation of 200,000 national guardsmen to swell our numbers should attack come.

Tonight, I ask all men and women of our nation and all peace loving citizens of this world to pray for peace. May god bless us and may he give us his blessing to overcome whatever obstacles that may arise. Thank You."

"Camera flashes errupted from the members of the press and many stood up and shouted questions at the Chancellor as he walked off stage.

OOC: Varrus, TG me before we take this invasion any further.

The Varrian military was a large, ungainly beast, with little finness or real sophistication. Certain things were spent more lavishley on, like the Air Corps and Fortress Command. Then there were others, principally the Legions, that relied on older, more basic concepts.

Like crude, tried-and-true brute force. The First and Second Legions of Varrus that had thundered across the border hours before their Commander-in-Chief's fraudulent press conference was a good representation of the military in general. A greater proportion of Varrian troops were tank crewmen. Everything else was mechanized infantry, except for the slower "Specialy Units." These were heavy artillery of the sort used in the age of Stalingrad. When the fast armor divisions of Varrus ran up against something they couldn't sweep aside, they encircled the pocket of resistance and pounded it flat with Crusader and Paladin heavy artillery platforms. Type 96 and Type 98 tanks could kill many, many things. What they couldn't, the big guns could.

The air wings were mostly interceptors, with a smattering of fighter-bombers. A defensive force. The pride of the Air Corps was the pair of B-52s that Varrus had snatched from the black market for a steal of a price. Their payload was vastly more than most aircraft a nation as tiny as Varrus should have been able to field, but there they were. Everywhere they went they were protected by a veritable cloud of interceptors.

Defense Minister Lucius was of a patrician family older than the nationhood of Varrus. But he was a military man, and he'd be damned if he was going to spend the war in a comfy office. He hadn't been gicing orders from a command tank in a long time, but he'd be as close to the front as possible.

He stood in a bunker hastily constructed near the border. As yet, the barreling tanks in the lead formations had met no resistance, save for an overly excited bordergaurd who fired his rifle at the approaching infantry. Unfortunately for him, he not only missed, but discovered that a wooden guard shack did not protect from the Type 96 tank that had been following up the infantry.

Suddenly a radio tech looked up from his station. "Sir! The lead tank in the third spearhead just started taking small arms fire! I'm online with the unit commander, and - sir." Lucius turned to look at the young man intently. "Sir... they just lost the lead tank. It looks like someone had a shoulder-mounted missile."

Lucius' reply was immediate. "Burn 'em out, son. Burn 'em out."

----------

There were 1,000 mechanized infantry standing in the way of the Varrian onslaught. They had been thrown into the path of Juggernaut, and they knew it. They had only a pathetic supply of anti-tank weaponry, and they were aware of their chances. There were none. They died, as they knew they would, but they didn't die alone.

Terraniam wasn't done fighting, and now everyone knew it. If she was truely to fall, it was clear that she'd go kicking and screaming every inch of the way.

OOC: If it seems like godmodding, it's not, because Terraniam and I talked it out before hand.

IC: "Lead tank coming into view sir!" a private who looked all of 14 shouted at a sergeant,"Jeez, he must bee a platoon or company leader cuz he's got antennae coming off the tank."

"Ok boy, load 'er up."

The private loaded up the HEAT round into the VPATS(Vehicle Portable Anti Tank System) and slammed the breach home.

"Ready sir!"

The corporal commanding the three man crew pressed the firing mechanism and the missle reached out a kilometer and exploded the lead tank, sending it's turret up off the tank's body."

"Haha, take that sucker", the second private yelled out.

Just as the corporal was about to gun the jeep's engine another tank rolled over the hill and it's heavy machine gun thundered and shredded the three man crew.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sole R-2C AWACS aircraft was up and orbiting just east of Terranograd. Almost the whole Terraniam Air Force was up today and they were much like stirred up hornets, having their nest rattled by unwelcome visitors and they were hungry for targets.

Today was going to be a day to help the ground pounders. Air Command had created a plan to stage a massive air-to-air battle over the front lines, nearly 120 F/I-33 Interceptors, unoffically known as the Harbringer, their pilots and support personnel that they would be the Harbringers of death to these invaders. At the same time, 75 F/GA-19 Avenger ground attack aircraft would swoop down over the massive tank columns while they were mostly devoid of fighter cover they would soop in and attempt to decimate the advancing tanks columns. Their plan was very risky, it was do or die and there was precious little they could do. The Varrusian Legions outnumbered them and they had to try soften up the enemy before the 1st Guards Shock Army met the Varrusian Legions outside of Ivanograd.

There were close to 200 aircraft up in two groups. A signal was shot out on several differet frequencies. A few moments later the 120 F/I-33s peeled off in squadron formation and proceeded towards the contact point, 5 of the aircraft were carrying jamming pods that were designed to do the opposite of their intended tasks, they would attract the Varrusian fighters away from the ground attack aircraft. A few minutes later, the F/GA-19 aircraft peeled off in similar fashion to the fighters and proceeded to their targets.

IC: The twenty member council shuffled into the now rebuilt Council Chambers, each man or woman accompanied by a fully armed soldier in tail. Mikhail Golovko waved at the soldiers,'You may wait outside."

"Yes, comrade," they repolied in unison and filed out of the room.

"Now that any prying ears are gone, we may begin...Comrade Yamov?"

The minister nodded to the Chancellor as he stood,"It appears that Varrus has swept through our Western Command, capturing all bases there. Within a week and a half they will have reached the city of Ivanograd. The good news is that they have been stalled at the Iustitia river, it appears that in their dash across the border they left their bridging units behind. For now they are waiting on the other bank of the river. This is a mixed blessing. It will give us time to completely move Operation Unyielding Shield into place, but it will also give them time to reinforce. "However", he added with a snicker,"Celtayoshi has offered their assistance and I have accepted on our behalf, I hope no one takes objection to this."

Everyone around the table shook their heads.

"Good, we hope to stop them here", he pointed to a spot just west of Ivanograd. "We will attempt to use our regular forces, our reserve division and what other divisions Celtayoshi can offer to stonewall the Varrusian legions west of Ivanograd. Before the attack occurs, we plan to take the Celtayoshian Armored Cav units(OOC:hope I got that one right ;)) and have it sweep through the Varrusian lines and gut their supply lines in the rear. We will also allow what Air Force units they send us to fly from our bases and aid us there too. Comrades, many will die, but this is our best and only course of action. We will either win the day or be crushed, that much is certain but if this plan succeds, we shall win the day."

OOC: yes, one carrier group close enough, the others will take one NS day to arrive and about another to set up your plan. The air force shall begin opertations within the next 12 hours. Also, yup, it is 'Celtayoshian'

IC: "Captain, new fleet orders," screamed the signals officer.

"let me see, ... turn the ship around, set new course Terraniam. Full Battlestations, ships offiers to my quaters now." The captain said after reading the message.

Meanwhile in Fort CeltaFuror...

At 0800 hours the final transport ship left port, with the remainder of the 100th Armoured Cavalry. The journey would be fairly short by Celtayoshi deployment times, only a days sailing at full speed for the ship, which was part of the fleets newest tranports. The plan detailed involved Celtayoshi forces holding the line just west of Ivanograd. With the 100th smashing through a weak spot to take down the supplies of Varrus.

A CY-B1, somewhere on route towards Terraniam...

OOC: the b1 is a long range bomber, which we will stage from Celtayoshi, the air force units deployed in Terraniam will be CY-X1s, our main multi-role fighter.

IC: It was hardest on the navigator, he had to ensure the plane avoided Varrus airspace, Air Force Command had made it clear that Varrus was not to know of Celtayoshi's offensive envolvement until the last moment. That meant being invisible, and staying out of enemy radar. The target, a fuel dump which had been captured during the initial assault. If it went it would slow the bridging units further.

"Target 10mins out," reported the navigator.

"Rodger," replied both the pilot and engineer, each of them had a job to do.

...

"radar sweep over the craft!," said the pilot, "they won't have us until we launch.

"approaching, bay open," the pilot thumbed the correct switch, and now lights went off, the radar had got them.

"ATDJDAM away."

"locked," replied the engineer as the pilot brought the plane into a right-hand curve and back to Celtayoshi via a waiting tanker southwest of Celtayoshi.

As they turned they saw an explosion rip open the night sky, that fuel dump was gone, so much the better they all thought. The entire time they were expolsed was under 20seconds, certainly not long enough or dection they hoped.

OOC: hope this is ok, don't want to do anything big until my units are in place.

"Sir, the campaign is going well... on the surface. However, aside from the air attack last week, there has been little real resistance." The steely-looking intelligence aid Director Gaius had sent over for the Magistrate-General's morning briefing had... a talent for understatement.

First, he had mentioned the giant Terranian air offensive in a single sentence. Maybe it was the way it that a lone sentence marginalized both the deaths of thousands of brave Varrian tankers and infantrymen, but it also blew off the gleeful revenge that they had wreaked on the enemy flyers. The Terranians had become overrconfident after the fierce battle with the Varrian SU34s. They had won, and it had never been in doubt. The Varrian air cover was heavy, but brutally outnumbered in the face of the attack. Once the obstructionist planes had turned their attention to the slow, plodding tanks piddling away beneath them, they had been overconfident. So overconfident that they had almost been totally whiped out when the tracked SAM carriers and 20 mm AA guns secreted about the Varrian lines opened fire into their faces. It had been a wall of fire and steel that sprang from nowhere, and the surprise had been total. The Terranian air forces to the west of Ivanograd were essentially no more, yet they had ended the lives of many great men.

And then... silence. No offensive actions whatsoever. The airbase hadn't been completely evacuated when the Type 98 MBTs moved in to secure it, but both ground bases had. Nothing. The bulk of the Terranian forces lay to the east. Where? No one knew.

"As per your orders, the Third Legion, the last of our proffessional forces not employed in the defence of our homeland, has been sent out to the river of Ivanograd. They shall endeavor to hold the line, with the assistance of the specialty units."

Crassus broke in. "The specialty units... the artillery has taken up position amongst the fortifications the combat engineers have assembled?"

"Yes, My Lord. Anti-tank guns, rocket artillery, siege howitzers. In fact, the larger pieces are in range of Ivanograd. Director Gaius urges that you commence a general bombardment of the city. We don't have to make a decision on that now, but -"

"We're in range of the city?"

The aide looked confused. "Yes sir... this wasn't communicated to you? We're literally on the other side of the river.... Some of our tanks can shot into the suburbs, for the love of god -"

"Well, DO it! Hit the government buildings, and go soft on residential areas. But level their monuments. Their infrastructure, too. They have to be shown that they cannont win. That it's over. That they must surrender to us what we already control. And then we will expand...." He toyed with a ring on his finger. "What else?"

"As you directed, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested that Sarctic deploy its troops in the conquered territory to free up our crack units to hold The Line. It's a low-risk scenario for them, so they're likely to agree. Also, we asked if they would remain officially nuetral, and declare the troop movement a peace-keeping excercise. That will shore up the false international opinion that we are not the agressors. Except for Celtayoshi, which has decided to act the western cowboy and attack our sights in the occupied territory illegaly. They surely wished to escape detection, and they technically did, but they failed to remember that the presencce of their fleet is impossible to miss. The attacks can't be anyone elses. An attack on a fuel depot may have resulted enemy casualties, but we can't be sure. SAMs were fired at a retreating craft after the explosion, and two detonated. In chaff or next to the aircraft, we don't know. We think we hit it, but we don't know. We've condemned the attack officially."

He checked his notes. "So, in review, we think we can hold the line with the 120,000 men we've got. We have a superior position thanks to the reinforced concrete and fixed AA guns, SAM sites and heavy howitzer, as well as our massive armored force. I imagine the B 52s will be deployed in the bombardment of the enemy capitol. Is there anything else?"

Crassus rubbed his temples. "Our aid giving agents... that escaped. I want them to assasinate as many enemy politicians as possible. Make them afraid to leave their homes. Terrorize them." He looked out the window. "And... have the national reserves on ready alert. If things go to badly, hand out fire and forget missile tubes to them and local police. We will exclude the possibility of attack on Varrian soil by making every man woman and child a soldier." He waved to dismiss the aide.

With a tap of a finger, he activated his television, watched the screen coalesce into the face of one of the state news agency spokespersons.

"-and so the Varrian government today condemned the attacks of Celtayoshi as well as the continued warmongering of the Terranian government. The brave defenders of Varrus have taken up position to create a buffer zone between the homeland and the chaotic state of Terraniam. Our hopes and prayers go with them, even as the enemy refuses to lay down their arms and stop the war they've started."

Crassus chuckled.

Ivanograd

The untis were up, and ready to fight, lined up on the other side of the River they would had only had time to dig a few trenchs to sink untis into, the air local population had taken to helpnig the army well, those that had not left that is. Hundreds of tanks and infantry were lined up and poised to fight. Just then the artillery and tanks started firing into the suburbs. With that the artillery return fire, suing sofisticated locator decives to pinpoint fire. Tank shells blazed out of the suburbs, the battle had begun, whatever happened Varrus could not be allowed to bridge the river.

South of Ivanograd
To the south of Ivanograd the 100th Amoured Cavalry advanced over the river, this rienforced divison would progress to the Varrus flank, and attempt to destroy it, thus relaxing the pressure on the defenders of Ivanograd. To achieve this would require the finest units at their best. It also helpe that the air force was due for one more stealth raid on SAM targets today, hopefully allowing the more nimble fighter/bombers to begin devestation air to ground raids.

Air Force Bomber, location apporaching a heavy SAM area

"Approaching target, radar sweeps frequent, i do not, repeat not have any specifically targeted on us."

"Target in sight, bomb bay opening now"

"Radar locked on us, we are being tracked"

"Target 10seconds out, loose bombs."

With that a devestating mass of bombs fell onto Varrus forces, dsepite that, many of the SAM launchers got off their missiles, of the 10 planes involved 20 missiles were locked onto 6 of them. Even though the launch platforms were gone the missiles continued automatic tracking. One plane was destroyed as it flew over head, causing yet more carnage, another had 5 missiles targeted onto it, there was no hope for it and the crew ejected south of the target.
The remaining targeted planes had roughly two missiles each. The first plane suffred structural damgage when a missile exploded in close proximity to its left wing, but made it back. one more was wiped form the air by a direct hit from 3 seperate SAMs. Another dove low and confused the SAM sufficently that the plane escpaed free. The final plane dodged one missile and avoided the second, only to be caught unaware by soem tall hills whch weren't spotted intime, and it suffered a spectacualr crash from which only one man escaped. It had been a very costly raid, but Varrus had lost several of its moblie SAMs and the air would not be open to larger attacks, with less risk.

OOC: Final total losses for me 4gone, 1 damaged, 5 safely back. Varrus you can post your own casulty figures, basically I carpet bombed a number of SAM areas :)

The always-gritty Defense Minister Lucius had decided the Line was as good a place as any to oversee the war from, especially since he didn't intend to budge. His great-coated bodyguards eyed everyone with suspiscion, and let the approaching Captain speak with their charge only grudgingly.

"Sir, the casualty reports from the obstructionist strike are coming in. It's not good. They were attempting to target SAM areas, but they only really knew where a few of them were. It's not like it's that easy to see a camoflauged SAM vehicle, and it seems they really only had a good idea of where a few machines were. They were, however, using cluster munitions, so they got more than they should have, anyway. I'd say the long-range anti-aircraft artillery in sectors Kappa and Delta are at 20 percent strength and lower."

Lucius cursed silently. DAMN the foriegn interferers! They had NO proof, NO evidence whatsoever that they had made public. The WORLD would show that Celtayoshi would be ostracized for this.

"Captain, what is the guiding principle behind defense? You were taught it at the Officer Command School."

The Captain answered without reservation or pause. "Redundancy, sir. The defensive fortifications must have interlocking firing arcs, multiple lines of protection, overlapping support - "

"Yes, thank you, Captain. The operational doctrine which you are reffering to is something I wrote. Now, would you be so kind as to activate the reserve SAM sights. There's no reason to keep them hidden now, and they'll bring us back up to optimal strength. Or near it. They won't surprise us again, though they may just send more planes."

He smiled. "I believe, anyway that our Air Corp is putting on a little show of its own at this very moment."

----------

Major Publius was, by most measures of mental health, totally, completely, hideously unfit to pilot a B-52 strategic bomber. Or any machine of any type ever. Or hold a sharp object. Or be free to roam in public. To do anything, really.

But he was the most efficient bomber captain Varrus could find. And he was about to do something he loved. Carpet bomb a city.

It's not like a pair of strategic bombers could destroy Ivanograd, but the High Command felt that the destruction of the Terranian council chambers would deal a punishing blow to enemy moral, and force them to finally reach a settlement.

So, the bombers Fortitude and Perserverence left the captured airbase, flew over the 120,000 troops and thundered toward the enemy capitol, surrounded by the remains of the Varrian Air Corp.

The altitude of the bombers was higher than anything the Varrians should have had, and they hoped that would convey the added bonus of surprise.

Publius opened the bomb bay doors. As the portals whispered open, he grinned. Surprise or no surprise, he was about to kill some people.

OOC: As we like to say in the Star Wars fan boards, "Yub yub Commander"

The night on the countryside was quiet, the only sound from some crickets and a tiny fire of something resembling what was a car. It burned very lightly, the metal slowly corroding and melting to the ground. A few spent shell cases lie next to it. Above, in the air, the AL-510 flew overhead, its quad propeller engines letting it cruise at a safe altitude and a good speed.

Inside the hold, 20 men and women sat ready to drop, each of them clad in paratrooper gear. They packed numerous types of weapons, but the big one seemed to be the Vector CR-21 that was tipped with a tiny silencer. The gun was very slick and compact, ideal for these kinds of operations. There was also some others, including some Dragonuvs, some AKMS's and even a LAW or two strapped to someones back.

Down the line, sitting 10 people in was their own President Onsorn. Many Chief's of Staff ever rode with their men, but Onsorn was a firm believer in morale and he felt nothing else could help but to see their own leader fighting with them. It couldn't help only months before he had led a freedom fighting revolution against their corrupt government. In that sense, he had plenty of combat experience. And their landing zone wasn't supposed to be hot anyways.

While waiting for the drop, Larf remembered back to the hurried meeting yesterday. They had recieved their reply, but it hadn't been to their liking. It was too obvious to someone who was looking hard enough. So they kept to their plan of deploying themselves silently in the territory that Varrus had conquered. They had replied they wouldn't annouce themselves until it was neccessary to do so. So in this case, they were still silent.

As everyone stood, Larf followed and glanced at the light. Yellow. They were getting ready to drop. As the lines moved on the bar, Larf followed and watch as the doors on each side and the main cargo door opened. Choose your direction. Larf followed into the left and waited until the light went green. A person went. Another. And then it was his. He hadn't dropped since taking the capital of Sarctic....and then he was dropping slowly.

His touchdown was smooth. He cut it the chute and gripped his CR-21 tightly. He glanced around in his crouch and followed the other soldiers, his eyes set ahead as they moved into the country. Like drops began all around the other conquered territory.

Sarctic had entered the war.

"Sir, Ivanograd has been carpet bombed!"

"Good god above, thats it, we need to show we mean business."

"How sir?"

I will alert the relavent comanders now, dismissed"

The MoAF ordered 10 destroyers battlegroups to sail for Terraniam within the hour, they would take about 2 days to reach the destination, with one taking as little as a day, each was acompanied with its escorts. The Navy's largest ship, the Doujin superdreadnought would be place on standby, while its pocket dreadnoughts would be ready to move also. The air force was ordered to send over 100 more F/A-18 super hornets, as well as AWACS support and more than enough air ground support. Portable SAMS would be shipped over, as well as more units, these would form a line due east of Ivangrad, ready to stop the advancing armies south of the river running east. With the permission of Terrianiam they wanted the bridges along that river destroyed, and Terraniam reserve forces to line up north of the river. Together it was hoped, no, they knew they could stop the advancing forces.

In the meantime in Terraniam... (OOC: where have your forces landed Sarctic, i won't use it IC, i just need to know incase any of my untis accidentally run into them)

Damage was high, many units were lost although for once the forward lines were least hit, but the 100th Armoured Cav was still unhit and now approaching the Southern Varrus flank. Within sights of the enemy they halted, and took up good positions, the targets were anything that was Varrus, and they were determinded to do there worst. As an added distraction CNV - Németh, so named for its likeness to the iron fist of our glourious leader along with its sister ship, CNV - Frem , so named for the pervious leader of Celtayoshi, opened fire from the water to targets just behind the front line, many, there aim was to destroy the infrastructure that Varrus needed for their advance, and to distract units away for the 100th's attack. The cav. opened fire less than 5mins later, the results were mayhem as Varrus forces struggled to figure out what was happening were. Further complicated when Celtayoshi forces on the out skirts of Ivanograd began firing into Varrus forces, it would take a skilled commander to regroup before the southern flank collapsed, we were under no illusions, Varrus had many of those.

OOC: Terranograd is the capital of Terraniam, no big deal;)
Celtayoshi, all your requests are approved

IC: The SAM and AAA regiment guarding the capital detected faint glimpses 50 miles out.

"Sir, we have inbound tracks at extreme range."

"OK airman, get 'em started up."

With that the nearly 200 air defence sites in and around Terranograde went to full alert and activated their passive scanners. They all began to report in blips on their screens to the air defence commander. The mammoth B-52s came into extreme range of the outer SAMs and the defence commander ordered all sites active. However, the Terraniam SAMs had a less than perfect aquisition system and a low service ceilling of 25,000 feet. The operators discovered that the B-52s were flying at 35,000 feet, the SAMs were therefore useless. But 100s of missles lifted off thier launchers alhough many detonated at and around 25,00 feet. A few of the SAMs exceeded their service ceiling and raced towards the two bombers but were feinted by counter-measures and jamming.

"Damnit!" shouted the commander as he slammed his fist down on a table in the command center.

"Hit the air raid siren...NOW!"

"Yes, comrade", replied a junior rating as he flicked the switch which sent out a long wail through the city.

The High Council had already be herded into the executive bomb shelter in the basement of the Council Chambers. They heard distant thumps, then the thumps began to grow luder and the floor began to shake. Some wondered about those above them, they wouldn't all have shelter such as theirs, what would become of them, Terranograd was a city of 2,000,000 people. Others, the more self-centered ones began to wonder if this would be their resting place, encased in a steel box.

The thumps began to intensify and then the lights went out and a ear-shattering bang resonated throughout the shelter as all the glass shattered. They all thought the same thing

Am I dead...?

Bingo, a light triggered in the Premier's head, propaganda, if they condem our attacks, all we have to do is show what they have done to Terraniam, people can decide form that.

Celtayoshi State News

"Ladies and gentlement, many of you are aware of the bitter fighting even now raging in Terraniam, our Permier has decided to speak personally with the nation, we should warn you that the footage you are going to see may be distressing, and has only just be soht by a freelance reporter in Terraniam, ladies and gentlemen, the Premier..."

"Citizens of the free world, my beloved countrymen, look at what we are fighting, death, destruction, imperialism on the most crude and brutal scale (the TV now shows the fires of the capital, barely even have fire crews had time to respond). This is why we are fighting over there, can you fathom the prospect of being ruled by the same inhumane people that did this, well, that is what the people of Terraniam have to face, as we speak our soldiers are trying to fight the advancing army, whilst shifting throught he rubble for people, for every one we pull out alive, many more are dead. We must fight to stop this, and we will not stop until the fight is over. Celtayoshi will commit itself to the defense of Terraniam, even if it means the invasion of Varrus..."

The Premier thought that last comment brillant, Varrus should be worried he thought, Celtayoshi was capable of staging an invasion, though it success would depend on how Varrus reacted at the front, and should Varrus try to invade Celtayoshi, then the wrath of the Ottoman Alliance would fall upon it.

In a park in a suburb of Terranograd, an anchor of the Terraniam Broadcasting Network stood.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are boradcasting here, from the Park of National Solidarity tonight because our studios in downtown Terranograd were destroyed earlier today. Our top story tonight, the foreign invaders bombed downtown Terranograd today. Although official estimates have not been released, we count the death toll at nearly 15,000 civilians and 250 military personnel dead. Although we have not been allowed near the area, we have reports that most of downtown Terranograd, including all Government offices are...gone, they're gone. Buildings within a 20 square block radius are severely damaged.

As I said before, we were not allowed into the area, we do have limited footage of the aftermath and we will show it to you now, viewer discretion is advised."

The camera showed various destroyed government offices and then closed on the Council Chambers, all but the first floor missing. Amidst the rubble lay many civilian corpses: men, women and children. A tattered Terraniam flag flew in the center of Terraniam Square.

"As you can see, much of the Terraniam Square Government Offices, including the High Council Chambers are completely destroyed. Although we have no official word, the High Council is belived to be trapped underneath the rubble in a reinforced shelter. As a result, the Chief of the Terraniam Armed Forces, General Gregory Petrovich has been declared the new-interim leader of Terraniam and we speak with him now via videophone...General?"

"Yes, Natalya", replied a man in full military battle dres in a non-descript location.

"General, many people are wondering what the situation is rgith now, what is the state of government?"

"Well, I am the new interim Chancellor, however, as my title implies, if and when Chancellor Golovko is found, he will resume his duties. If he is not found, then democratic elections will be held once hostilities between Terraniam and Varrus."

A voiceless man called the general off-screen

"I can see you have other business to attend to General Petrovich, is there a final statement you want to make?"

"Yes...I want to speak directly to Magistrate-General Claudius. You, sir, are a coward. You have blatantly killed tens of thousands of helpless civilians and are obviously too much of a coward to wage war in, if there is such, a civlized manner. I don't care whether it takes a month, a year or a god-damned century, we will drive you back to where you came from, vermin scum. You will be made to pay for your heinous crimes."

Petrovich tore off his microphone and stormed off-screen.

"Uhh, Thank-you General Petrovich. Now..."

"GodDAMN it!" The Magistrate-General of Varrus flung his glass at the wall, where it shattered loudly. "What the HELL was that? Who commanded that flight?! WHO DID IT?!"

He was in the ops room below his office at the Varrian Capitol Building. Three and four star generals edged away from the screaming national leader. A courageous one stepped forward to supply an answer.

"My lord... the - "

"SHUT UP! SHUT THE HELL UP! Do you understand what this means? I wanted a bombing of the CAPITOL BUILDING. Not thousands of CIVILIANS! Do you GET IT? Every shred of legitimacy I've scrabbled together is worthless now! No one will fight with us! Only against us!" He put both hands on a fire control panel, leaned over it. "Damn." He cursed silently. "This was supposed to be our destiny. This bastard turned it into mass murder. Damn." He blinked back tears. "Get me the Foreign Minister. We need to get out of this damn war. Prepare to pull the troops back."

"Sir! We've put so much into - " The huge, grey-haired man withered under the stare of his commander-in-chief. "Yes, sir... yes, My Lord."

On his way out, Crassus stopped at the door. "And shoot that crazy bastard when he lands."

----------
Captain Publius had tuned into Terranian civil broadcasting on the flight out, and had cackled with glee at the numbers that were read in a devastated whisper by some radio operator far beneath his mighty plane.

His good mood continued unabated as he dropped down the access ladder. It faded somewhat as he saw the pair of huge, great-coated men waiting for him. They wore the dark grey of the most senior officers, but both wore the rank patch of mere NCOs. That meant that they must have been beyond elite. They might have been the Defense Minister's personal bodyguards - was he getting some sort of medal?

His smile faded somewhat as the more grizzly looking of the two drew his service automatic and emptied half a clip into the pilot. His body hit the ground with a wet smack. These men knew what their target had cost their homeland. The war.

"Will they let us out of it? Let us stop fighting?" The man who hadn't fired turned to the other.

"I don't know. God help us, I don't know. What are we supposed to do with the body? Leave it on the tarmac?"

"The Magistrate is doing something with it." He grunted. "You get his legs."
----------
The big guns firing over the river into Ivanograd stopped firing. The news had spread quickly, but not as quickly as the orders to stopp all offensive action. The B-52s stayed grounded. The two divisions that had been manuevering to surprise the Celtayoshi Armored CAV that so plainly thought itself cleverly hidden halted in their tracks. The radio operators all along the front were screaming for a cease-fire, screaming to begin negotiations. And up above the river, a small, unarmed helicopter with Varrian markings was requesting clearance to land in Terraniam.

"To all and any who may be listening, this is Flight One, repeat, Flight One. We are carrying an envoy who is fully authorized by our government to accept whatever peace terms you propose. We are totally unarmed." The pilot turned away from his microphone. "Weren't even allowed to bring our sidearms, for chrissakes." He turned back. "We are willing to put down wherever you say. We bring a gift. I say again...."

All the men in and around Ivnograd had heard what had happened in Terranograd and were hungry for revenge upon Varrus and Sergeant Bure was no different. He took manual override over the fire-control computer and locked up the helicopter. He armed the missles and just before launch a thought flcikered through his mind

The missle leaped off the launch vehicle and slammed into the helicopter, vaporising it...

The "Work Men" had been hiking to Ivanograd when they were forced to take to ground.
As artillery began pounding the area, in day Celt forces began moving through it was on numerous occasions that they believed they would be captured.
"My G-d, what are they doing?" The young Cpl. asked as the team watched from a distance as Ivangrad was bombed into a pile of rubble.

"The prince has discovered that you sent a recon team into Terraniam."
The forbodding man who sat behind the desk did not turn or speak, he shut his eyes. He felt the hot pain in his back as the silenced pistol in number One's hand fired. He wondered at the very last what number One's name had been, he couldnt recall.
The young walked over to the desk andpressed a button on the com,
"Number Two, you have just recieved a promotion, I have some things I need cleared out in the office, and call the Bee Keeper, tell him it is time to close shop."

60,000ft over Terraniam

The cockpit of the Heavenly Archers remained quite while they had been on these patrols. Radio silence had been a directive.
The pilot and Electronic officer both jumped as the voice came over their head phones.
"BeeKeeper one, Beekeeper one, respond"
The two men stared at each other.
"Beekeeper One, BeeKeeper one, respond."
The pilot shrugged his shoulders.
"This is BeeKeeper one, go for Farmer."
"Farmer John."
"Farmer John, yes sir, go ahead Farmer John this is BeeKeeper One"
A long pause came.
"BeeKeeper One, Mission directive change."
The Electronics officer grabbed an envelope from a lock box, while the pilot removed one from his flight suit.
"Go farmer John for mission directive change."
"Fox is in the hen house"
"I repeat the FOx is in he Hen house"
"Confirm Farmer John, Fox in the Hen house."
"Confirmed."
"Please advise, Farmer John."
"The chickens are saying their prayers"
The CO-pilot snickered...
The pilot fought off laughter...
"CHickens are praying, please confirm Farmer John."
"Confirmed."
"You are G-d"
"I am G-d, Confirm."
"Confirmed."
"Please advise."
"Take your people home."
"COnfirmed"
The conversation ended, the pilot looked over to his crew:
"Man, who thinks that sh-t up?"
The Electronics officer responded
"Some d-ck in an office with nothing better to do but think up gibberish for us to say, like 'Praying Chickens'."

The first of the Heavenly Archers rolled out away the original plight plan.
The bomb bay doors opened.
Radar would show a faint hit, and as the doors opened the faint hit would be more clear, more like something really there, and in a minute their would be no doubt.
"Alright boys this is a mapping mission, Batai, shoot them 'long and strong' transmit back to the 'Angels' then I will get us the hell out of here."
The first Golden Arrow Stand off Area Attack missile dropped its engines fired it was not even away before the next was firing...a minute nad a half later 20 missiles were roaring into Varrus with a cruise of about 15 meters, several missiles using the MITL were even lower. The feed was beening beaned out over a wide radius, the next teams missiles would be more accurate, and so forth and so on.
Deadly intelligence gathering, the target, anything big, tank columns or school houses, it made no difference as long as they struck as deep as possible into Varrus...

OOC: It can continue with the fact that the on ground forces can incite some conflict that keeps it going. I just dropped in :D

Only 30,000 SOCF troops had landed into the conquered Varrus territory. The first hour had only been light infantry to make sure and secure some landing spots and then some light scout vehicles and armor was brought in. The odd thing seen was some digging vehicles and bulldozers, which suggested long term occupation.

President Onsorn was standing on the small rock outcropping overlooking the building encampment. Small squads would hitch onto BMPs and ride off in different directions to coordinate the occupation. Most of the soldiers were lax, calm and idily chatting with friends around the campfires set in between the pitched military tents. He turned to glance at his military aide as he stepped up to the rock.

"Sir, all forces have sucessfully deployed to our assigned region. As we speak, fortifications and SAM batteries are being put into place. We also are nearing completion of the command bunker." As he finished, Larf nodded and waved him away. He glanced off to the distance where the front lines could be. Though they had complied to Varrus's orders, they weren't under obligation. Larf smiled. Time to enact Operation Takedown .

The largely intact units of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Legions formed up quietly in the night, assumed formation, dissasembled the defensive fortifications, and turned home.

Mostly, the soldiers hadn't even seen real conflict. Only the lead divisions had really gotten their teeth into the war. The rest had subsisted mostly on building the huge, frightening concrete bunkers along the Ivanograd river that were apparently... not going to be used.

Still, they were more or less happy to return home. Unfortunately, that wasn't where they were going. They were pulling back to about half way to the border. It was a massive show of cooperation towards the Terranian and Celtayoshi governments.

AND it allowed Defense Minister Lucius to keep a stern eye on the Sarctic troops. They had been acting... suspisciously. He wasn't much concerned, though. Not much 30,000 infantry could do to 120,000 of his now well-experienced troops. Especially when they were sandwhiched between the aforementioned Juggernaut AND the formidable, siege-like defenses of the homeland.

They had better think twice about whose back to stab.

IC: Celtayoshi forces began advancing their line, it would move to the east of Ivangorad, and it was hoped Terraniam would do the same, those units caught in fighting stayed in Ivanograd and helped cleanups, with VArrus withdrawing slightly it gave tehm a short breather. The CYSIS would be watching that border to ensure reinfrocements did not come across it. They were also closely watching Sarctic, who had yet to encure the wrath of Celtayoshi.

The Celtayoshi Air Force also began conducting operations using its UAVs

OOC: OK, it can land

IC: Nearly 20,000 men of the 2nd and 5th Guards Divisions had entered Ivanograd and now only 3,500 remained. All that remained of a two division brigade was nothing more than a few under-manned battalions, a handful of tanks and a few artillery pieces. Much the same could be said of the city and it's inhabitants. The western suburbs of Ivanograd near the river where Varrus had crossed was completely destroyed and little in the way of buildings stood save a house or shed here and there. The downtown core had also been heavily hit and many of the roads bore huge craters and glass was strewn across streets from the blast of artillery shells. Estimated civilian casualties ranged from 10000 to 30000 and damages were estimated at nearly 15,000,000,000 Rubels ($0.72 USD).

The plan was clear: The 5 divisions in and around Ivanograd would hold and attempt to aid the civilian population while the relatively unused 3rd, 7th and 8th Guards Divisions would follow the Varrusian invaders on their retreat back to the border.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

After nearly 48 hours of continous digging, the Terraniam High Council was finally un-earthed. Nearly all of the council had been killed after a direct hit on their shelter, but a few were alive, including the Chancellor. Upon reaching the surface, he was taken to a medic. Under closer examination he had several major lacerations on his torso and arms and many minors ones across his face. He was quickly bandaged up and sent in an Army Medical Carrier to one of the massive aid stations in and around Terranograd.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interim Chancellor Petrovich hadn't slept for the bettter part of a month and now that it appeared as if things might just be settling down he had, on advice from his staff, gone to bed. An aide awoke him

"Yes, what is it my boy?"

"Sir, they've pulled the Chancellor out of the Counciul buildings. He is alive and except for a few junior council members, he is the only survivor.:

The Interim-Chancellors adrenaline spiked.

"They...they killed...all of them?"

"Yes, sir."

"My god. How is the Chancellor?"

"He has several major wounds but he should fully recover."

"Well at least that is good. What now?"

"Celtayoshi has offered to host peace talks."

"Yes, well we will accept but we should ask Varrus how they plan to show their faces in public after hat they've done....Don't in clude that."

"Yes, sir."

The Interim-Chancellor then stood up and looked at the clock...he had been asleep for nearly 24 hours.

However, you would be most welcome as an independent observer if you wish. The small, agile little helicopter settled gracefully onto a landing pad - surrounded by hundreds of heavily armed Terranian troopers. There was silence.

Tribune Marcus Crassus, son of Claudius Crassus, Magistrate-General of Varrus stepped from the craft. He looked about, not imperiously, not with hate in his eyes, but with a sense of wonder. He had not known so many human beings could be so truly silent.

He turned back into the open door, and hefted a large duffle-bag looking object. He took after his father, with whom he was vaguely distant. He was tall, with broad shoulders. He hefted the article easily, and strode toward the ring of grim-faced soldiers.

Again, as he looked at them, he felt no hatred. No animosity. Only a sad understanding of what had happened to them. What one of his people had done.

He stopped in front of the grizzled Terranian officer looking at him, and dropped the sack unceremoniously. He knelt, and unzipped it.

Inside was a headless corpse, rent with several heavy caliber pistol shots. While the head was gone, the B-52 pilot patch was obvious, brazenly displayed on the body's shoulder.

The son of the Magistrate cleared his throat. "We wish peace."

OOC: I hope I don't overstep my bounds on this one...nothing's permament. Terranian is basically a dialect of Russian, so I don't think Varrus and I speak the same language, IC of course.

IC: Colnel Vladimir Afineonvich approached the visitor in full ceremonial dress, his chest flowing with medals. Unfortunately, he wore a new one, won by he and every other man and woman who held the line in Ivanograd, he had been in Ivanograd since the first day of the siege, as had every one of the 375 men assembled aound the helicopter. A man got out and the Colnel barked an order, all 375 men and women, including the Colnel snapped to attention and the Colnel snapped a salute at the tribune who stared puzzedly at the salute and then returned it with the sloppiness that was to be expected of a civilian. With his full dress came a perfectly lethal military saber and he let his hand draw near it. The Varrusian saw this and he flinched, not very noticeably, but the Colnel saw it and it gave him a snicker on the inside.

So he know who's boss...good

The Trbune dropped the duffel bag between the two with an unceramonious thud. He then unzipped it and the headless body of a pilot was found inside. The Colnel stepped closer and looked, it appeared to be a bomber pilot, so this was the one was it? The Colnel stared at the Tribune for a moment and then asked in the Varrusian's native language:

"This is the one, yes?"

The Tribune was somewhat surprised at the Colnels mastery of his language, he replied with a curt nod and a weak smile. "I hope you are not upset with the liberty we have taken with this", Crassus replied in Terranian.

This time it was the Colnel who was surprised,"No, I think that is fine. However, I do not wish for any more blood to be spilt unneccesarily."

He motioned to the pilots still-bleeding copse.

"Of course", the Tribune replied,"What do you want with him?"

"I have no use for him, give him back to his family, burn it...I really don't care."

"Very well", replied the Tribune.

The Colnel then opened an official document and read from it in Varrusian(sp?):

Under International Law, Terraniam hereby sues Varrus for an immediate ceasation of hostilites, reperations of 20,000,000,000 Rubels (0.75 USD) and the trying of her leaders in an international court of law under counts of breaking the peace, grevious genocide against the citizens of Terraniam and unlawful and unprovoked commencement of hostilites between Terraniam and Varrus.

The Colnel then handed the document to the Tribune and said,"You wish peavce, then honor this document. There is nothing left for us to discuss."

The Tribune began to interrupt

"We have told you what we require for peace, you can either honor our demands in peace talks in Celtayoshi or we can begin this whole thing again. It is your choice to make, we want peace...do you?"

The Colnel snapped to attention, saluted the Tribune, and about faced. He barked another order and all 375 soldiers began marching away from the helicopter.

OOC: We're not backstabbing you Varrus, just....getting a piece of the booty for ourselves :D Also, I hope you don't mind if I take a ship and a port of yours Terraniam :) Should be in the clear, since Varrus moved up to the first river and then half back....still in very good clear.....

The lower port in the conquered part of Terraniam was quiet during the night, the only noise coming from one or two smoking fires or the cough of a battered port employee turned guerilla. There was a small amount of them, trapped in port by the charge of Varrus. In an ironic situation, a cruiser had been stationed there as defense for when Varrus might and could have attacked. And, the ironic part was that the crew had been on leave the night of the attacked. And died when the bar they were enjoying was blown apart by a tank shell.

Left in the dust by the mass of the Varrus Legions, it had easily slipped off their list of things to do and had just sat there, occupied by partisians. It might have been passed off by a military clerk, but not Sarctic's High Command. Oh no, they were very eager for sea access. Not only would it give them a "place" in this war, but the trade and military possibilities made it a hot spot on their list.

And it this night, they were going to take it. Approaching on ground and on sea, Sarctic SOO forces were moving in on the port quietly and stealthly, moving at a slow pace to avoid detection. Preisdent Onsorn had elected himself to come along, though on the three gunboat commando squads. He kept all of this in his thoughts as the almost whipser quiet motor boat crept towards the port, which loomed into view like a sore thumb. The ragged partisian there we tired, hungry and thristy, which would make it the perfect attack situation. The boat began to slow to a standstill as they rested meters away from the concrete walls of the docks.

Larf stood and glanced in the darkness, fumbiling inside his SOGs for the clicker. He found it and placed it high in the air, clicking the light on in sequence. On the opposite shore, the counterpart pattern followed and Larf gave a last click to signify <I>Go!</I>. With the clicks of safeties across the area, everything errupted into chaos.

The heavy machineguns on the decks of the gunboats opened up and poured fire into the port. Also on each of the gunboats, the 16" cannons began a slow yet steady rain of shells, pounding storage containers and buildings alike. On the ground, scout vehicles and infantry opened up into the port, ceasing almost any resistance that the battered partiasians could muster. They moved into the entrance and swept through the complex of buildings, being wary of their allies fire onto their advance. The action lasted for about 15 minutes before only the light fire of automatic weapons could pierce the night. The gunboats drove around their prize, the cruiser. It was vaguely quiet, the last of its crew-guards being dispatched with squads of infantry. It was easy to see the men now, jumping to half down ramps from the ship and anchor lines.

1 hour later

A lot of noises now filled the port. Soldiers talking or patrolling. More soldiers were hauling bodies to the shore and others were swarming over the ship, stepping over shell cases and preparing for a hurried departure. Crates were being off loaded from scout vehicles and onto the boats. Various lines were being cast off and retied to the hooks on the docks. Some of the very large supply containers were even broken open, various stuffs being hauled out to little camps of soldiers and being raided.

Larf surveyed the scene and couldn't help but smile. They had taken the whole naval base in a matter of an hour. Of course, the resistance had practically been cut to crap during the charge, so he couldn't attest the victory to himself. He turned around to the gathering in the command test, stirring his glass of fine whiskey around as he sat back to the table of his staff.

"So, what's the condition of the Glory?" This question had been aimed at his military advisor. The man cleared his throat and shuffled some papers.

"Our first assessment shows almost no damage. The hold outs here seemed to be preparing to equip themselves for the possibility of a ground assault, but the Legions were too quick for them to get their equipment. In all told, they didn't have the power to cripple the ship herself, less they launched a missle at themselves, which would be a suicide. They actually tried though. The 4th Gunlet found some dismantled rockets and Stingers. One of them was about a bolt away from becoming a grenade, which could have cost the ship, but, well, we arrived on time. As for the ships actual status, its stocked and fully loaded for war. The techs are refitting her with our "special" surprises. The only thing that needs to be decided before shes fit for launch is a new title. And in this case, the men have had a uninamous name. They chose the Slippery Jack, with your permission of course." Larf smiled as he finished. That was a fitting name.

"It sounds excellent to me. I only request they make it colorful." He smiled and made a light toast, and then the staff filed onto the general celebration in the base.

A small whaleboat approached the newly patriated Sarctic cruiser. The Glory, as it was still being refered to, was being made ready to put to sea when it was captured. It's crew tried to sabotage her to no avail and now Sarctic wished to use it for their own means. Clearly, this could not be allowed.

The whaleboat slowly drifter with the current to the Glory. One mile out, a 5 man team dropped off the side of the boat and slipped under the waves wearind diving gear. They were members of 1st Platoon, Echo Company of the Terraniam Special Warfare division. Their task was to sabotage the cruiser by any means neccesary. Their objective was to dive under the waves and to affix several high explosive mines to the keel of the cruiser. Once they arrived at the cruiser's keel they did just that and within a half hour they had completed the task. The SW soldiers had set the detonators for 120 hours, 5 days. That was a day after the port was expected to be under Terraniam hands. If not, then...well, then the Sarctic soldiers at the port would receive a nice surprise to go along with morning revielle. The 5 men then turned around and headed back to the whaleboat, several miles distant from the cruiser.

The Speical Envoy had arrived in Terraniam, the purpose of them being thier was to oversee th peace talks, before they either moved to Celtayoshi, or were concluded in Terraniam. The Celtayoshi government was also to demand reparations off Varrus, for the loss of life and the expendature of miliary supplies. Celtayoshi would also politely request a small navy base on Terraniam to ensure long term defense of the area. As a side offer Celtayoshi was willing to enter and agreement to assist in the defense of Terraniam for the next 500years if Terraniam was invaded without good reason. This was of course not something Terraniam had to sign.

After his brief... ceremony with the Terranian officer, Tribune Marcus Crassus had returned to the pathetic little craft that had brought him to make his delivery, and sat in thought as it lifted into the air.

In what way could the war be won? Sarctic was still an ally - they obviously enjoyed their first taste of expansion, as had he. Together, they could certainly defeat the Terranian obstructionists. It was a terrible pity that what had happened to Terranograd had been done by a Varrian. All of his father's precious work in constructing legitimacy was for naught.

Until his frighteningly bright father had had the B-52 pilot executed fro treason. The world's media was confused and sputtering, which was much, much better than anti-Varrus. Celtayoshi had never really explained why it came into the war. There was no proof, no evidence that Varrus had truly "begun" the war. The world could yet be duped.

Celtayoshi is the worry. How can they be removed fromt the scene? Can they be reasoned with? Lied to? Bluffed? They have no proof. They know it. Maybe they do, but it wasn't legally obtained - they can't use it publically. They possessed totally overwhelming might as far as Sarctic and Varrus were concerned.

He continued pondering as the tiny helicopter landed at the massive defensive breastworks the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Legions had erected at their holding point. The war might still end diplomatically, but just in case Defense Minister Lucius had turned a series of pleasant, lolling pastures into a series of unpleasent, heavily armed concrete fortresses.

He continued pondering yet more as he transferred to the C-130 on the freshly construced runway behind the new Line, and took to the air with an interceptor escort.

What to do?
Varrus

OOC: Oops, sorry. Marcus is going to the conference.

Defense Minister Lucius and his personal bodyguards were on a holiday of sorts. Lucius was not a diplomat by any definition of the word, and all that he had to do at the Command Bunker was listen to reports that said there wasn't a Celtayoshi or Terranian unit in sight and listen to other reports that said he wasn't allowed to do anything until the diplomats were finished.

The capture of the Glory - no, no: Slippery Jack - was as good an excuse as any to leave the office.

He arrived at the port, trailing his great-coated security personnel everywhere. He greeted the Sarctic sentries and carried on genially with President Onsorn for some minutes, discussing the battle and such. He was about to enquire as to what sort of gunboat could mount a 16" cannon when there was some sort of commotion. He and the Sarctican whirled about to see a very sheepish young fellow in a greatcoat being fished out of the water.

Noticing the attention, the young Legionnaire snapped to perfect, yet still vaguely sheepish seeming, attention. "Sorry, sirs. I was leaning on a crate, and apparently it wasn't very stable."

"Apparently not." The simultaneous reply from the two high-rankers was similarly wry.

"Um... Mr. President?" The Legonnaire was relieved that the Onsorn responded to his title. He hadn't been sure "President" was right. "I'm not a sailor, but what are those black things all around the ship under the waterline? I noticed them when I fell in."

Onsorn and Lucius gaped at each other. Never before had a multi-million dollar warship been saved by land-lubber who fell off a pier.

IC: Chancellor Mikhail Golovko came to the podium, with much of his upper body wrapped in plaster, concealing the bruised, torn destroyed flesh underneath. He was bound to a wheelchair for now, and if he was fortunate he would only need a cane once all was done. He stood, and with the help of two leg braces, he stood fully erect at the podium. The Interim-Chancellor stood at his side.

"My fellow Terranians. Over the last decade we have seen many horrible things and many great things happen to our country. We have freed ourselves from oppression only to see it return, we have lost so much and yet have also gained much through selfless sacrifice. We have shown the evil embodiment of oppression that we cannot and will not be ensnared by its vicious grasp. We have lost so much..."

He paused as tears came to his eyes, his wife, son and daughter had been killed in the bombings.

"..and yet we have overcome. Today, we are here to make sure that it never happens again. I will shortly be departing to Celtayoshi with the newly re-instated General Ptrovich to make sure that Varrus is brought to justice for what they have done. Tonight I pledge to every citizen of this country and the free world, those who wish to oppress you will not succed. The oppression will not and cannot last. For years they have made us afraid...now it's your turn to be afraid....Thank You."

The Chancellor collapsed into the wheelcahir and rolled off the podium onto a military jet and minutes later the jet, with three F/I-33 jets as escort, thundered down the runway and took off into the dusk sky.

OOC: Yeah, the finding of those explosives was pretty stupid. But I've found a way to mediate the situation.

As Larf finished buttoning his military uniform once again, the door to his room in the Naval Base opened to his military aide. With a dreading feeling, Larf had a feeling what the report would be.

"I have a report on the mine situation with the Slippery Jack, sir. The demolitions team was able to get some of the explosives off, but without any way to get fully under the ship, they can't be taken off. The dive gear is expected to arrive in four days, in which they can be removed before her maiden voyage." The aide cleared his throat. While still worried about his prize, Larf was glad it wouldn't be hurt.

"Of course, a twenty four hour guard has been set to watch the ship and the situation of the base. Heavy detection equipment is expected in two days." Once again, a throat clear."The Military Command has forwarded the final copy of Operation Slope. It's waiting for you at the Command tent. Statistics say it will be ready for deployment in a day, regardless of the unknown quantity." That last phrase was what Larf had been thinking about for the past day. He planned to meet the Magistrate later to discuss the plan. It was risky for all parties involved, but it could provide more conquest. When the Sarctic forces had dropped, they had only brought 50,000 troops total into the country. In actuality, the country had about 800,000 troops at its disposal. Slope called for a rapid advance on Terraniam soil through identified weak points in the lines.

About another 100,000 troops would be brought in for the plan, and another 30,000 for reserve. The plan was that the mass of the Sarctic forces would surge forward at the weak points and envelope a good portion of Terraniam troops. 75,000 and the exisisting troops would deploy to assault the main line, while the important part of the operation would occure at sea. Using their captured cruiser, which was still unknowned if usable, and a fleet of gunboats and converted ships would land at the boot pennisula, in an effort to capture the naval and troop bases there. Not only would this threaten the troops trying to stop the main advance, but it would bring the war in Terraniam a lot closer to home. With a sigh of tiredness, Larf picked up his weapon and moved out of the cabin to meet with the Varrusian leader and discuss the plan.

General Ivan Gegarin had been chasing...no, that wasn't right...following the Varrusian troops back towards the border. A cease-fire was in place and the only real reason they were there was to follow the Varrusians back to the border. He stood on a once rolling hill, now degenerated into a muddy crater. He picked up his field binoculars dangling around his neck and sruveyed the Varrusian troops, they had stopped for the night. His division had liberated many small Terraniam villages and towns, all almost completely destroyed by the war...Not much left to liberate he thought.

General Gegarin had been ordered to detach a battalion that would march on the port under Sarctic control, their orders were to surround it, and if possible, capture it without any fighting. However, they were authorized to elminate the forces if neccesary. Well, he hoped cooler heads would prevail in Celtayoshi...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the Chancellor arrived in Celtayoshi, he had been greated by several high ranking officials. The eeporters of the Celtayoshi State News, as well as the TBC and several other global media networks had swarmed around him. The Chancellor was tired, however, and managed to decline various requests for an interview and was wisked off to a hotel in Celtayoshi City and to a cordoned off floor where he quickly fell asleep in his room. He was no longer a young man and these past months had certainly drained him of much of his strength.

OOC: Sorry. I'll attempt to post this evening, but the idea was that the soldier was beneath the surface. I know it was sketchy, but, hey - Slippery Jack was too cool a name to let it explode.

OOC: Just one tiny problem witht hat paln, my Navy is still sitting off the Terraniam coast, admittedly offshore but they cans till moniter it. Anyway, there ain't much i can sya here until a few more posts are made. Except Varrus, will you be sending a delegation to the peace talks in Celtayoshi?
Sarctic

OOC: Well, firstly, don't rule out the "special" packages that were emplaced on the Slippery Jack. You'd be surprised what could show up :) As second, if your asking if Sarctic is coming to the peace talks, Sarctic isn't officially "in" the war. Up to this point, they've been a "Ghost" force, the only action seen being taking of the port, and the troops there were basically employees turned fighters, so no word got out. It would most likely be really easy to find out
Sarctic was helping Varrus, but a lot of Intelligence might have overpassed this fact while looking for intel on the main enemy. I wouldn't mind if it was found that Sarctic was aiding Varrus, it just would be pointless to annouce it because the bulk of Sarctic's forces are still at home. ;D

OOC: I know, but the reason I asked is because I had said I was going before. It was a little akward, but when Marcus Crassus takes off, he's going to the conference.

The heavily armored executive transport jet touched down efficiently on the Celtayoshi runway, leaving the quartet of Varrian interceptors to circle off and land at the military facility designated for their use.

Marcus Crassus, son of his country's leader, stepped from the plane into the cool night air. There was no point in bringing bodyguards. There would be no possibility of fending off an attack by Celtayoshi in their own capitol.

Marcus had sent one last plee for help, for an idea to President Onsorn in order to successfuly conclude the war. Yet, the conference was to start in just a few hours. A reply would have to be clear cut and succinct, because it would be downloaded straight to Marcus' notepad. They had one last shot before the end of the great and glorious war.

"Do not worry my friends, we do not seek to hurt you, we promise you safe passage in Celtayoshi,"

"Now then the conference is due to begin in 48hours, you sahll stay in Celtayoshi House, in the east wing, the ambassdorial quarters. Security will keep the vairous delegations apart."

As Marcus Crassus was taken off in a diplomatic car he was handed a draft of the Celtayoshi terms. They included several military bases in Varrus, as well as repartion payments which weren't overly high, but still hard enough. Varrus would also be forced to keep its army to no larger than the Terraniam Navy. They would talk more later.

OOC: Wow. This thread has degenerated somewhat. Lemme TG Sarctic and Terraniam.

Tribune Marcus Crassus cast the insulting demands into the roaring flame of his fireplace. The rooms that Celtayoshi had provided were sumptuous, yet he could not shake off the feeling that there was a calculated threat about them. He scowled at the expensive oil paintings adorning the walls, and positively glared at the frescos on the garden boundaries.

Each and every one depicted a glorious, historical Celtayoshi battle scene. Each and every one a victory. The sheer pomposity of it, the mind-bending arrogance... needed correcting.

But how?

President Onsorn was returning no calls. Not a one. If Sarctic stood fast, then at least these absurd demands - he spat into the fireplace - could be bargained away. Until then, he was on his own.

But there would be cameras at the conference, and opportunities to play victim...

OOC: The cameras are censored in the War Room, and they are only stored in archive, never released.

As for the follwoing, well, its just a time killer.

IC:Just after breakfast a gentleman in traditional Celtayoshi Battledress knocked on the door to Marcus Crassus' room.

"Sir, I have been ordered to give you a tour of the Palace, and of our city, if it would so please you to join us."

Stunned Marcus didn't know what to do, he thought quickly, it would not do to refuse thsi man, so he agreed.

The purpose of this tour, of course, was to overpower the delegation with the the most historic and impressive parts of Celtayoshi.

The man, his full title was 'Captain of the Guard of the Palace of the Premier of The Allied States of Celtayoshi and Protectorates' Led them first round the various rooms, each corridor was lined with expensive paintings, ornate decorations and pretty looking guards, who wouldn't thing twice about using their swords on an intruder. They passed the Parliament, it was sitting at the time and Marcus Crassus was taken into the private viewing area, the Premier not present at that sitting. From there he was taken to several rooms, the Németh room, the Kerenskov room, all named for the Premiers of Celtayoshi, each containing a little more history. The final room was the War Room, where the conference was held. The massive solid wooden doors were opened by two doormen, and this room was by far the most overwhelming, each wall had paintings of the Celtayoshi victories, every warship in the fleet was painted here, every army, navy base was listed, treaties were framed on the wall, territories were painted, and about the far wall was the words "to serve and protect" the national motto.
From there Marcus was taken outside a knew guide took over, the outside was almost as impressive, a massive garden surrounded the palace, with plants of all kinds, it was more welcoming than the inside, but it was all a sign of the immense wealth of the state. Now they were showing what Celtayoshi was really about, from the huge shipyards and aircraft factories, to the skyscrapers and stadia. One thing Marcus Crassus could not fail to notice was the huge volume of police, everywhere friendly looking officers stood, and they looked proud, one would nto have thought that the nation was embrolled in two wars overseas.

The final route befroe returing at dinner, was past the headquaters of the Celtayoshi State Intelligence Service, a huge sprawling 7 story building looked ominous, and foreboding, it was not a welcoming place for those who did not want to be there.
