Fox News (Jarridian Owned): Breaking News

The screen changed to say "We interrupt this broadcast with an important news bulletin"

The screen switched to show Jasmine Means sitting behind the desk, her blonde hair bright in the glaring lights from above. She cleared her throat and began to utter the urgent news.

"Good morning, we have urgent news to report. All over our nation Schools are reported closing as teachers have lead a historically massive strike throughout the nation. Not only are teachers fighting back, due to the lack of funds the schools have recieved because of nationwide budget cuts, but healthcare and mass transit workers have dropped their jobs saying 'No more.'

All over, hospitals, schools, universities, construction crews, buses, trains and airports have all been shut down. It is reported that all incoming Jarridian flights have been rerouted to Smithsilian or Utcheeri Airports until the situation is remedied. Thousand of workers have hit the streets and cities are basically at a standstill as the highway systems are unable to cope with the influx of vehicular travel.

In other news, President Branam's trip to Utcheer in order to discuss a possible aid situation between the nations, was cut short so that he could return and began trying to cool the flaring tempers back home. We are unsure at the moment if any progress has been made, but union leaders have stated that no one will return to work until their points have been met.

All in all, the Jarridian Economic situation has worstened due to the onset of these strikes. The only people rejoicing in this matter are the children who now have an indefinite vacation time. We will keep you updated at this strory progresses. Thank you for your time, I'm Jasmine Means with Fox News."

Presidential Office; Shelbin, Jarridia

Jarrod entered the room quickly, as he had just returned from Utcheer. His advisors stood up, and he waved them down as he sat in his chair behind his desk leaning forward on his elbows.

"Tell me what is going on!" said Jarrod angrily.

"Well sir, its quite simple. Our nation has shut down, without mass transit, the cities can't run. Without healthcare, people will surely die, and without education, the juvenile crime may increase." responded Jason Jahari, the Workforce Commisioner, with slight sarcasm in his voice.

"I don't need snide remarks from you Jason!," Jarrod yelled, "I want to know how we can fix this. The economy is in bad enough shape as it is."

"The cities mainly affected," said Kim as she directed their attention to a map, "are Kiakor, Seaton, Corvica, Regence, Westwood, and other main cities. Shelbin is one of the few that have been left running. However, the entire education system is shut, except for some of the smaller towns and villages."

"Does anyone have any ideas?" said Jarrod looking at everyone's faces.

Most of his advisors looked at eachother and shook their heads. Rachel Murphy, Secretary of Transportation stood up and said, "We could try to temporarily remedy the situation with those already unemployed. They would be willing to work in conditions such as these in order to make a few bucks."

Marty Freveson, the Fiscal Advisor, snarled instantly, "We have no money Rachel. The nation is bankrupt. The best we could do is give them free tickets to tour Shelbin. Other than that, I'm not sure how we can get anyone to work."

A heavy sigh went throughout the room, and Jarrod, using his last patience said, "well...we must do something. Our economy will never recover if no one has a means of education, health, and a way to get from point A to point B."

Everyone sat quietly. The day was starting off terrible, the busy streets of Shelbin were not far from being gripped in its on terrifying ordeal in itself.

How much do you need to pay for education? Nothing should get in the way of a good education. Kahta is willing to give you a grant to pay for replacement teachers and anything that is needed for the education up to grade 12.

This is definately bad news:
We'll wire you 15 billion cheetos(15 billion USD). I don't know how much it will help you, but take it anyway.
Also, I'll send over some more medical personnel: As you know, I've already stated that the medical personnel we have within your borders will gladly offer free medical assistance to Jarridan citizens.

Dear President Branam,

As we are already assisting you in your economic crisis, we are sadden and shocked by the news of a teacher's strike. That is the last thing your nation needs at a time like this.

We have a fulltime staff of full-qualifiied teachers, partime teachers and substitute teachers. Our partime teachers are hoping for full-time opportunities. We know that you are unable to pay salaries that are being paid by our treasury to the teachers right now. However, we can make a deal to help you out.

We will pay the full salary for the teachers, but you would provide boarding for them. This would ease up funds so that they can go to actual supplies. This means that if your teachers want work, then they would have to deal with the current flow of the economy or face poverty themselves. We are aware that this is harsh, but, we feel that education is amongst one of the most important things to creating and maintain or restoring a viable economy.

Let us know what you think.

We also have many potential grads who will be looking for work and student-teacher opportunities.

Sincerely,
Sarii Junlkre
Minister of Education

Evil Overlord Enterprises is willing to provide public transportation (buses, aircraft, taxis, trucks, etc) and skilled operators for up to six months to assist Jarridia in coping with this calamity- provided the Jarridian government can provide adequate security for the EOE personnel in-country.

EOE will also undertake the construction and maintenance of sufficient energy infrastructure to cope with the public transportation and provide basic services to the cities- again assuming the security of EOE personnel can be guaranteed.

If the Jarridian government does not feel that it can guarantee security, His Omniferocity has two suggestions to improve the security situation:

- Allow EOE to maintain civic worker payrolls until such time as the government can take back the burden. This may be the quickest solution, as it will get your own personnel back on the streets with no lapse of coverage.

- Allow EOE to provide security for the Dominion personnel. This will take longer to impliment, and your government might justifiably be leery of allowing armed foreigners to wander about your country.

His Omniferocity's government will treat these expenses as a loan, and we are willing to discuss a favorable payment schedule which will allow Jarridia to base payments on ability to repay. The interest on this loan would be a nominal 1% APR.

Please advise us of your decision.

The mighty lord Magius gives the following advice:

"You should shoot them. Striking is for traitors."
He says smashing his fist down on his obsidian table.
"Your children should be educated until 12 and assigned their career, at which point they should begin training in it. Why waste money on compulsory education? It's for the weak."

South Islandia - Don't bring your communist propoganda into my country. Jarridians are proud of the freedoms that get from their democratic government and will never be swayed by your liberal ways. As long as the people believe in and exercise their rights, Jarridia shall remain without oppression and tyranny for centuries to come.

JNN (Jarridian News Network; Fox owned, Jarridian based)

Today, teachers, healthcare and transportation workers dropped their pickets and went back to work. The three week strike ended this morning with the reestablishment of funds to these Jarridian programs. The president stated that this was because of a major boost to the economy.

The Jarridian economy has increased over the past few days, and Jarridians are finally able to, yet again, live in prosperity.

In other news....

OOC: I will post the rest of the story in the Jarridian Economic Crisis thread.
Wolfish

Wolfish would like to offer you a long term arrangement that can help sustain your economy.

We would like to lease from you a military base - specifically a deep-water harbour, with no less than 600 acres (about 2 sq kilometres) of land.

We would use this as a pre-positioning point for our naval forces.

Approximately 2,000 Wolfish forces would be based at this location.

We would have to employ about 5,000 Jarridian civilians to support this base, with other "off-base" jobs and economic development anticipated.

Please advise.

Subject: To help the people

Greetings, My name is Hurlush, I am a head of the Kriegos Industrialist's council. I would be more than happy to take in however many refugees you need. Just give me a reply should you be interested.

-Yours, Hurlush Ziathia

Hurlush clicked the mouse and the email went soaring off, finding it's way through cyberspace until it arrived in the recipients inbox.

The ruthless industrialist leaned back on his chair and looked down on the workshop below him, through misted windows, the work being done seemed almost ethereal, he saw a slave- A refugee- Asking for some food, the slavedriver wasn't pleased and cracked his whip on the slave, leavings bloody gouges visible through even through the polluted glass. Bloody slaves always ask for food, the simple fact is, I like food, therefore I get it, they need food, they get it once every 3 days. The cruel man grinned, showing a sinister, sharp set of teeth.

Wolfish - Your request has been approved and you have been given a plot of land estimated at 605 acres on the Jarridian Western Coast along with a deep harbor.

Kriegorgrad - We have no refugees to send you. But we thank you for your interest. Jarridians prefer to stay within their borders, rather than go into dictatorships. Freedom is forever here.

We are pleased to hear that Jarradia is back on her feet.

With permission from your government, we wish to leave some of our workers there to help build up your economy. We will pay our workers, but, they will contribute to the economy. They will also help those just getting back on their feet.

We will also begin to slowly withdraw the surplus of workers and begin the transfer of manufacturing plants and other industrial outlets to Jarradian hands, so that they may control their economy again. The transfer will be a gradual shift in power so that in the event of a relapse, the economy don't crash again, and there is still something supporting it. However, we eventually wish to completely pull out, unless of course, you would like us to keep a few workers there, as well as maintain this sector of your industry.

Kryozerkia, your support has been phenomenal. I greatly appreciate everything you have done. We will allow you to keep workers within our borders, and we hope that we can keep trade ties open between our two countries. Thank you for everything.
