Core HoloNet News Alert!
After a week of deliberation, the Imperial Senate has formally adopted the Constitution of the United Federation of Planets, begun by The Fedral Union. Secretary of State Yanosuke Masaki (not a Jedi) is to be sent to the planet of Bable to sign the Constitution, accompanied by much fanfare and pomp & circumstance. The Secretary will be protected by a small squad of Royal Guards (think Palpatine's Royal Guards, but a bit nicer) and two Jedi. We are most pleased to enter into this alliance and hopefully, this will maintain the peace...

A Lambda-class shuttle reverts to realspace near the planet of Bable, and now enters the traffic control system.

"Sir, we are now in the Bable system." The pilot announced to the Secretary.

"Very well. Let me know when we land."

In the back of the shuttle, two Jedi were in conversation with each other, talking about things.

"Master, I have a bad feeling about this." Padawan Jake Valen muttered, looking out of the window. The young man had brown hair, and a fairly long braid denoting his status. His soft-chocolate eyes often makes girls swoon, but he's usually in control of his hormones (he's 16). Usually.

"I don't sense anything." Master Chris O'Neill said. The Jedi Master has short-cropped black hair, and violet-blue eyes. He wonders what his apprentice is talking about.

"It's not about our charge, not really. It's something...different. More elusive."

"Hmm. Don't center your anxiety on the future, Jake. Keep your focus on the here and now."

Ok, Master, you have been watching waaay too much Episode One, but I'll bite. :D "But Master Elendil says I must be mindful of the future."

So have you, Padawan. :p "But not at the expense of the moment."

"Yes Master. I'm sure everything will be fine."

"Of course. The signing itself will be short."

"But it's the speeches that will be long."

"Indeed, Padawan, indeed." The Master had to agree, but his apprentice also needs to learn patience. The shuttle contined down to the planet, zooming over majestic mountains while holding a traffic pattern. Delegates from all over the galaxy has already come for the signing, and the Secretary, who is incidently the Emperor's cousin as well, is but one more delegate to the grand ceremony.

President Server was all smiles as he sat in front of the Congress! He looked out at all the delegates as a very unusual roll call vote.

As the vote was concluded, the secretary of the Congress stood up with the vote results.

"Mr. President of Corneliu. It is with great honor to announce that the vote to ratify the UFP Constitution was Unanamous."

"Thank you Secretary. Members of Congress! With the passing of this legislation, I willbe leaving immediately to the signing ceremony. Until I return, my son will be here in my sted. May God bless you all!"

An hour later, he was aboard Space Force 1 heading for the signing ceremony.

Black turned to white, white turned to black, and the universe paused for a moment that took an eternity.

In space, there is no sound, unless one is traveling through a thick gas cloud. One moment there was nothing; the next moment a big ship was hurtling towards the sun of the Babel planet's system. Thoughts arced across the bridge of the battleship WSGS Pyre. System lights dimmed momentarily as the fusactors engaged.

Engaging fusactors, the chief engineer's thoughts were heard by all plugged into the 'net of the battleship.

Time dilation is twelve hours, forty-two minutes, and twelve-point-one seconds, the navigator responded, then repeated the statement in words that seemed harsh after the eery harmonies and dissonances of etherspace.

"Chain drive online, artgrav online, fusactors at eighty percent," the engineer stated. His fingers deftly disengaged the nano-enhanced five-point harness of his cushioned chair at the front of the 'bridge'. Clicks echoed around the circular structure located within the superstructure of the starship -- if the engineer thought it was safe, then it had to be safe.

"Setting course for the planet Bable," the navigator commented. The pilot sighed.

"Good insertion," Commodore McKenzie said, sincerely. Translation was often violent enough to damage ship systems. This time, he hardly felt the shift from etherspace to mundane space. "Open frequency, 'This is the WSGS Pyre, carrying the Weyrean delegate and observer Jean Havok to the signing of the charter of the Union of Federated Planets. Requesting permission to enter orbit around the planet Babel.'"

The comm-tech nodded imperceptable, keying in cocommands. She would have done so via the 'net, but something made her want to do this task 'full body'.

The battleship Pyre continued on its heading towards the planet Babel. Perhaps a full battleship was overkill for a peaceful signing, legate Jean Havok reflected, walking briskly to the Strike Bay. The battlehsip did not carry a real fighter complement, and the bay contained two planetary shuttles.

The Pyre class superficially resembled a twentieth-century Terran sea battleship. It had tripple-gun turrets, missile (the old timers called them torpedo) bays, and numerous flak and chain guns. That was where the similarities ended. The Pyre had a dozen torrets, six below and six above, which fired sub-etheric projectiles at nearly the speed of light, where the projectiles became more akin to waves than physical objects, and were capable of shredding meters of high-grade armor.

At the far edges of the Bable System...

Space might be silent, but the interior of an Ork warship isn't. Barely functional machinery whined constantly, occasionally giving an ominous cough. The corridors were poorly lit, the lamps giving off more of a “buzz” than light. And wherever two or more Orks were in close proximity, there was an argument. The bridge in particular was chaotic, as crewmen bickered over who got to press which button and why Grok was gunnery captain and not Ylerg. Disputes often came to blows as bigger Orks attempted to establish themselves in more choice positions.

However, in his raised throne in the center of the bridge, Hurog Half-Troll, Grand Boss of the Fleshcleaver Clan and most powerful Ork this side of Solomon remained silent. A full eight feet tall and almost as wide, he was undoubtedly the biggest Ork in the fleet. His face scarred from numerous battles (and efforts to look just that meaner), he did not look like someone who’s wrath you wanted to incur. But the president of the Fedral Union had did just that.

When the Skeelzanian ship had crash-landed on one of their worlds, the Greenskinz suddenly found the ability to travel amongst the stars at their fingertips. Hurog and his brother, Brunk, had led the charge from their homesystem of Grantris IV into surrounding space, beginning an era of unprecedented conquest. But when the Greenskinz ran headlong into the Skeelzanian Principality, they found themselves outgunned and outmatched. Desperate to buy time (and ultimately get better weapons), Hurog had proposed that the Greenskinz join the growing United Federation of Planets. Despite being “open to all races and species”, the UFP, under the pompous leadership of the Fedral Union, ignored the Greenskin envoy.

Hurog was furious. In his subsequent tantrum over twenty slaves were killed and none dared approach him for three days. Suddenly, in a bizarre twist, for help Hurog went to the people he had hoped to defeat: the Skeelzanians. The Grand Prince was about as happy with the UFP as the Orks, seeing it as another Fedral plot for domination. Hoping to strike them a blow in their early stages, the Skeelzanians and Greenskinz made an unholy alliance. The Principality would supply weapons and ships, the Orks would supply the muscle.

In fact, the Ork flagship was the first fruit of this alliance. Constructed at a secret Skeelzanian base (with input from Orkish Meks), Hurog’s Fury (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/Bad_Skeelz/OrkBattle3.jpg) bristled with plasma and torpedo launchers, and was even armored with Corpsacian endor armor. Now Hurog would personally command from it during his strike against the Federation.

A smaller Ork, unsuited to more important tasks clambered up from the sensor room below. “Boss, da scanner boyz say der sum big ship comin’ in towards da conference. Shul weze get ready to attak?” Nearby Orks perked up, the prospect of battle with the enemy overriding their urge to battle with each other.

The Warboss showed uncharacteristic restraint. “No, weze wait fer all da Federation leaders ta showz. Dey gunna be makin’ a big fuss over der constitution, and will all bez on da planet. Once dey all here, we move in and crush em’ all.” The bridge crew gave a cheer of approval. “Radio da fleet, tell em to wait fer my signal to attack. Shuld be soon now.”

OCC: The Greenskinz Factbook (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=353395), complete with ship stats for everything but the Hurog's Fury (which I'll try to put up later). Just for future reference, the fleet consists of 4 kroozers, 5 Reavers and 12 Marauders, in addition to the Fury.

The ship carrying the Foolish Pesants delegation appeared from The Warp in orbit over the planet. Not warp speed, but The Warp, Chaos space, a dangerous realm where demons live. Usually such trips can take hundreds of years, though if you can strike a deal with an unaligned patron, trips can take less than a few days. The costs were usually bizarre in the extreme, for this trip, a solid gold coin had to be placed on the third step of the second stairway.

The ship itself was a beaten cargo transport, covered in scorch marks from weapons fire and rust. The gothic Imperial designs had long since been destroyed and lost over the centuries. The weapons, two forward mounted las-cannons, had long since stopped working, serving only to make look more menacing and not an easy target. The ship also sported two side engines that could be rotated to allow for atmospheric flight, which were the only part that looked like it received any upkeep.

The treaty had already been agreed upon by the Government, though if they wanted to make a fuss about a signature that was their choice. A few lights began blinking on the underside of the ship as it began its decent into the planets atmosphere

OCC: The roles of crewman, marine, and trooper are all interchangeable as far as Orks go. However, a small (200+) contingent of elite troops are on Hurog's flagshigh that are intended for a ground assualt on the signing. In addition the escorts (not Kroozers) can land if need be, allowing their crews to act as ground troops in a pinch.

OOC: I won't post the ship stats unless it's absolutely necessary. Let's just say that if something gets within firing distance of a Pyre-class starship's Torch cannons, then it's going to be very crisply toasted. I assume I have clearance to go into high orbit.

"Cradle disengaged."

"Planetbound is out of the hold. May The Lady be with you."

"And with you."

A small vessel flashed from the Pyre-class battleship orbiting the planet Babel. Streaking past the armored turrets and lesser cannon, it put on a burst of speed, then slowed before entering the atmosphere of the planet.

Entering atmosphere, Jean. We will be at target co-ordinates in twelve minutes. Havok's ghost, a small crystal implant above the corpus collosum, 'spoke', its words transmitted to havok via neurochemical and subetheric paths.

Havok watched the exterior visual feeds, enhanced with thermal and EMF imagery. The small shuttle craft shuddered, buffeted by atmoshperic current, a streak across the sky as it went from planetary night and into daylight.

Behind him, the two magi'i who acted as the legate's escort were abscently discussing the lack of apparent defenses at the meeting.

The shuttle craft's body, charred from countless atmospheric insertions, gently settled onto the landing pad outside the facility. It resembeled nothing more than a mishaped pear with stubby wings. Havok's ghost was an excellent pilot, if somewhat formal. Hydraulics hissed and whined, releasing the gangway. The legate Jean Havok, in the gray uniform of the legate of the Kingdom of Weyr, stepped out of the craft, flanked by two magi'i in black.

OOC: Dont just dump ships in because theres a threat.

The Brand New ACSV Casena, one of the freshly designed Dreadnaughts, exited its wormhole above the planet of Babel, the President was away on buisness, so a famous delegate, a Miss Tydera Ankul had been sent to the signing, with all the powers necessary.

She was a Fairly pretty woman, a half elf, half human that now made up a majority of the population, She had long blonde hair and Hazel eyes.

She boarded her shuttle, with 2 Gaurds, the shuttle promptly engaged its auto pilot, and slowly crawled out of the Hangar, before entering the traffic lane that would guide it down to the place of the signing ceremony, automatically, she sat back and waited for the shuttle to descend, its shields protecting its fragile hull from the atmosphere, the Sleek and unused hull got its first few almost un-noticable scorches.

Finally, it set itself down at the site on Babel, Tydera and the 2 Gaurds began their walk towards the ceremony building.

"I dont know why i get chosen for a boring signing ceremony" Tydera said to herself, before entering and scanning the room for other delegates or leaders.

OOC: Ya probably crap but i cant think of anything, you could always pretend youve met her and chat to her yay! j/k

OCC: Its alright Arenumberg. I use a "floating ship skill" periodicially, where the skill of my individual ships increases as people dump in more. Makes for a slightly more interesting fight. Also, theres a link to show the Hurog's Fury in my original post if you didn't see it.

IC:
"Alright, dats enough. Signal da fleet, were goin' in." The Orks roared their approval before turning to their respective duties. Radiomen frantically signaled the rest of the fleet to advance, while others in the engine room engaged the nine huge fusion drives. Slowly the Ork fleet got underway, rapidly losing any sense of formation as individual ships jockeyed for position.

Starting at the very edge of the system, the warfleet had plenty of time to gain momentum. By the time the diplomat's vessels entered range, the Orks were screaming along at dangerously high speeds. Straining against the immensene g-forces (which would crush a human), Hurog reached forward, slamming his fist down on the "Fire!" button.

The front of his ship exploded as nearly a dozen plasma cannons let loose on the closest ship, the Casena. The other Ork vessels followed suit, firing multi-ton slugs with their railguns as fast as the greenskinz could reload them.

By now the Meks had cut thrust to the engines, figuring this was a good time to begin slowing down.

OOC: STOP IT FFS..

The sirens and klaxons on the Casena went berserk.

"What the fu.." The captain began

"Incoming fire, we got .. alot of ships out there to say the least, all beginning their firing sequence, raising shields and increasing power.. " An officer interrupted

"All hands, Brace for multiple impacts!" The captain shouted over the internal comms "And comm's officer, get out a distress signal now!"

The Casena's new shiled generators hummed and prepared for the inevitable insult, her entire side was open and vulnerable, then the multiple mismatch of weapons smashed into her.

"Shields.. 40%...20%.. holding at 3%, weve got hull breaches through decks 12-41, casualty reports coming in.. 123 decompression deaths.. 38 Injuries, 78 other deaths, damn it, engine's 1 and 2 are dead, entire broadside crumpled, trying to turn her front to face them Captain" Another officer reported, the bridge had turned from pristine to a wreck.

"Get the nose of this wounded beast around, and release the fury of everything we have on those bastards! And check our distress signal!" The Captain ordered.

The wounded casena turned herself as best as she could, then she let rip, as more enemy weapons began their impact on her.

OOC: Gah......not very polite to produce ships out of nowhere...

Commodore McKenzie, C.O. of the Pyre figured he'd take a long nap. As alarms went off throughout the battleship, he went full-net, leaving a small conscuious part behind to run to the bridge.

Unidentified formation incoming, the navigator's voice sounded through the ship net.

Artgrav went off just as McKenzie vaulted into the dimmed bridge, making him grasp for the handles built into the sip's bulkheads. How? he asked, automatically strapping into the captain's chair.

They looked like asteroids, came the navigator. The bridge crew was firing up active sensors, illuminating the ships around the WSGS Pyre with everything from LIDAR to subetherics.

Shields cycling, the engineer said.

Cover that ship, the commodore commanded. the greenskinz ships were on trideo, and on the 'net, firing upon the ship (the Casena) that had released its shuttle moments before.

A dozen turrets turned in synch, targeting one of the smaller Greenskinz ships as the Pyre vectored head on at the enemy formation. Weyrean battleships were not meant to be fast, but they were capable of covering distances at a goodly rate. Eight forward facing turrets opened in synch with shields, flashing them on and off faster than the human eye could follow. Multi-ton shells ripped towards the closest Greenskinz vessel.

Meanwhile, the Pyre's comm-tech synched the telemetry from the battleship's sensors to the weyrean fleet on Paradigm.

<Paradigm Prefecture, outside Majora's asteroid picket ring>

[b]"All hands prepare for emergency translation,"[/i] comms blasted the message throughout the First Star Group. In ten minutes, the small fleet would be translating into the Babel system, hopefully without major time dilations.

<Planet Babel>

"Interesting," legate Jean Havok commented, tapping into the net to listen to the battleship's movements above.

The Ork fleet continued its headlong charge at the ships orbiting Babel, apparently heedless to any damage sustained. One of the Marauder dessies caught the volly from the Pyre head-on, disintegrating upon impact. Several large pieces of debris tumbled into the enemy fleet, propelled along by their own momentum. A second Marauder ship, one of its broadsides torn away by a shot from the Pyre, lined up for a suicidal ramming against the Weyrian battleship.

The bridge shaking around him, Hurog directed the battle as best he could. However, whatever coordination the Orks started with had rapidly disappeared. Many of the smaller dessies were lining up their own targets, disregarding any orders from the flagship; only the kroozers and several Reavers stayed in formation. By now the Casena and the Fury were exchanging shots, even as they hurtled towards one another. Although a head-on ramming was tempting, Hurog didn’t relish diving into the enemy “zappah gunz.” Instead, he ordered his ship (and any that were still listening) to swing around the planet and hit the enemy again.

As the ponderous ships began to slingshot around Babel, a lucky shot from the Casena slammed into the engines of the ’Ammer, a Marauder class dessie. While Hurog and his kroozers continued the maneuver, the unfortunate ship rapidly began losing altitude. On the bridge, Kaptain Jelok desperately tried to keep his ship level, even as they plummeted through the atmosphere. His teeth definitely clenched, Jelok strained against the crude control stick that directed the ’Ammer’s thrusters, guiding the crippled ship down even as the outer hull turned to slag. Suddenly they were in the clear, the fields of Babel stretching out below them.

Then the engines died.

The outer hull finally tumbled away moments before the destroyer plowed into the countryside, obliterating the prow and leaving a four mile trench. On the bridge, Jelok slowly unwrapped himself from the control stick, determined to find out just how many of his crew survived.

the commotion had retracted the attention of the security fleet .. once they found out what was going on the captain had ordered the fleet to move in and attack the ships attacking the conference the captain said "all units brake off and start attacking!" the 2 strike classes in the fleet broke off and at near light speed maneuvered around like it weighed nothing at those speeds the strikes began to fire at the orcs ships they swooped and fired so fast no one could barley get a chance to even target them a few other ships broke off and began to attack the enemy from behind firing volleys of photon quantum and transphaisic torpedoes the ships charged up there phaser arrays and fired burst of crimson orange energy at the orc ships charging up and firing charging up and firing again and again . constantly with volleys of torpedoes following behind the constant phaser fire the ships maneuvered in flanks with them firing there torpedoes and phasers the strike classes continually started to bomb the hell out of the enemy vassals again and again

OOC: if any of this does not hash with what you intend, please tell me and I'll fix this post. I'm basing the damage taken on the link you provided.I'm assuming that the Marauder is coming head on in its ramming run.

The WSGS Pyre shuddered beneath the Greenskinz onslaught. Polarized mithril-steel charred beneath plasma bolts. Railgun projectiles, deflected by shielding, slammed into the battleship's armor at odd angles, sometimes skipping off the plates entirely. Weryrean battleships were designed to take damage.

Shields at forty-nine percent and falling,

A lucky shot went through the second topside turret, destroying the primary munition elevator.

One of the Marauder dessies caught the volly from the Pyre head-on, disintegrating upon impact.

One down!

A second Marauder ship, one of its broadsides torn away by a shot from the Pyre, lined up for a suicidal ramming against the Weyrian battleship.

Rammer, coming in!

Activate Torch One.

Tortured mithril-steel groaned as the battleship tweisted to face the incoming Greenskinz vessel. A dense jet of antimatter blasted towards the Marauder, seconds before impact. Torch cannons were a single-shot affair, taking an hour or more to recharge. The Pyre class of battlehsips carried three of them.

OCC:A simple rule-of-thumb for Ork attacks is that their almost always going to be kinetic or missile attacks. By and large they lack the technical expertise to build energy weapons suitable for ship combat. The one exception here is Hurog's Fury, since it was built by the Skeelzanians for the Orks and thus carries the latest in plasma weaponry.

Heres my current ship positions (more or less): Hurog and the four kroozers are rounding the planet, and are about to run smack into the Fedral fleet. The 'Ammer is crashed on the main continent (or whatever) of Babel; the remaining dessies are battling it out in high orbit.

IC:
The Torch cannon gutted the Marauder, completely destroying its interior, leaving only an empty shell. Continuing through space, this empty shell met the prow of the Pyre head on. Meanwhile, the main body of the Ork fleet began absorbing huge amounts of damage from the Fedral ships. Solid construction meant that the dessies were almost impervious to "one shot, one kill" weapons, though several did have holes punched through them.

As the desperate battle continued, Reavers began launching swarms of Ork fighta-bomberz: crude contraptions capable of both space and atmospheric flight and packing more bombs than speed. Scores were destroyed moments after launch, falling to PD fire and nearby explosions; however, those that survived quickly iniated attack runs against the various ships, launching large megaton range torpedoes at whatever happened to be infront of them.

Their sensors temporarily blocked by the planet of Babel, Hurog and his kroozers emerged from their slightshot manuever...and smashed into the Fedral flank. Quickly overcoming their initial shock, the Orks began pouring fire into the saucer-'eads.

Meanwhile, planet-side...

Jelok looked over the remnants of his crew, wishing more had survived the re-entry. A good portion had been incinerated during the crash-landing, or sucked out of the ship entirely. However, 300 orks had survived, and had quickly armed themselves with whatever was at hand. Jelok himself hefted a sizable shotax: part shotgun, part ax. "Mooove out!" The battered army set out across the scorched plains of Babel, with no real goal in mind.

OOC: 'k, thanks. I saw the plasma/rail gun weapons in the Marauder's description, and figured some of that would be operational.

With no ability to maneuver, the two vessels rammed head on. The Pyre's shield flared, overloaded from the kinetic stress, yet deflecting slightly the path of the ork Marauder. The husk of the ork ship scraped against the upper forward section of the Pyre, heading up to pass over the squat superstructure. Two of the Pyre's three Torch cannon muzzles shredded on impact. Small artillery turrets collapsed as the the Marauder scraped against them. Three main wave motion turrets had their barrels torn from their sockets.

Ninety-eight hands missing; WMC one, two, and three disabled; Section One flak cannons disabled; primary comm array offline; LIDAR/ethersense arrays off-line; Torch canons one and three damaged; the damage report from the collision began pouring opver the ship net in even before the orkish ship ripped the sensor, flak, and communication arrays off the superstructure.

On the ground, the two magi'i and the legate briefly lost communication with the WSGS Pyre, before the backup equipment came online.

Vampires, incoming, the ship's ghost warned. The McKenzie cursed, his thoughts streaming on the ship net. The opyre class, liek the rest of Weyrean battleships, was not designed to take on fighter craft.

The few flak and chain gun emplacements on the Pyre opened up at the approaching craft, using both the enemy emmissions and their own sensors to track targets, but they were too few. The engineer of the Pyre raced through the ship's systems, struggling to reactivate shields, bypassing damaged routes.

As the Weyrean battleship opened fire with eight of its remaining nine cannon against the nearest ork vessel, the first torpedoes from ork fighta-bomberz impacted against the polarized armor. I assume orks are good enough to hit a giant turret An underside turret exploded in flames, flames quickly doused by lack of oxygen as bulkheads groaned but held, leaving a charred hole. Two torpedoes in quick succession impacted against the armor damaged by the Marauder ship, setting off the battleship's missile magazine. Quick action by the on-site engineering crew shut down the Torch cannons' antimatter chambers before they were breached. Explosions ripped through the foreward hull.

On the outsirts of the system, the first of the Weyrean rapid-response fleet began translating in. The Hornet-class carrier WSGS Rondo appeared below the system eliptic, broadcasting onall frequencies that it was a Weyrean ship on all frequencies even as it hurled towards the planet Babel along the route followed by the orkish fleet.

Pilots scrambled into their Neo-Zero fighters and Starfortress bombers as it neared the combat zone around the planet Babel. Still hundreds of kilometers away from the planet, a quarter of an hour would pass before it would launch its fighters.

Remaining armament on the WSGS Pyre: one forward-facing Wave Motion turret and two rear-facing turrets on the underside; two rear-facing wave-motion turrets on the topside, behind the superstructure; a few flak and chain gun cannon spread around the ship, but not in front of the superstructure. The pic attached is more or less what Weyrean starships look like.

"Captain. We're getting reports of some activity at Bable." The comms officer aboard the ISD Nighthawk reports.

"What kind of activity?" Captain Needa, commander of the fleet asked.

"Like...I dunno. Some idiots decided to attack the signing ceremony, methinks."

"Really? Will they be needing help?"

"I don't really know, but I'm sure the Fedral fleet and whatever's there can deal with them."

"Very well. Detach the Dragon Rage and send it over to investigate and join the party if need be. Add in a couple of squadrons."

"As noted, sir."

"One more thing, notify the Corneluian Admiral of this update so we can talk."

"Yes sir."

As the ISD and two extra X-wing squadrons disappeared into hyperspace, the task force continued to play war games, at least until things start going bad.

The Dragon Rage reappeared several minutes later, nearly on top of the enemy fleet! As the enemy poured fire into the Fedral fleet, the 1-mile long battlecruiser powered up weapons and shields.

"Doesn't look like there's much left for the party, sir." The scanner officer reported, quipping as well.

"But there's still a few for us to chew on. Open fire!"

The Imperial Star Destroyer opened fire with it's dozens of turbolaser batteries, while the X-wings dove after the enemy fighter-bombers, throwing scarlet laser fire into shields/armor.

Meanwhile, the Jedi noticed some flaming debris, and felt life-forms disappear at times.

"I do believe that we're being attacked." Master O'Neill said, and his words put his apprentice on alert, ready to ignite his saber at a moment's notice. The Royal Guards checked their blasters and force pikes and made a circle around the delegates with other guards, scanning the area for enemy troops and preparing to die if need be.

The rest of the Federation ships ran into the Orks. 4 ships were lightly damaged, three moderately by the flak fire. 2 small ships closest to the enemy fleet were heavily damaged, a medical ship and a Venture-class. The Federation ships continued to fire powerful phasers and volley after volley of torpedoes at the ork vessals. With the gigatons of firepower poured at the enemy, the ships swarmed the Orcs like deadly sharks.

OCC: Ships alive at the start of this post: Hurog's Fury, 4 Kroozers, 5 Reavers, 9 Marauders.

The battle was not going as planned. Scattered reports were coming in from the dessie fleet, blathering on about some giant triangle attacking them. One of the Reaver ships, caught in Fedral sights, blew open like a tin can as its reactors reached critical, transforming the powerplant into an atmoic bomb. Huge chunks of debris, thoroughly radiated by to dense to be destroyed outright, tumbled off in all directions, a few falling onto the planet below.

With the kroozers on both flanks, Hurog charged his ship into the heart of the Fedral fleet. Torpedoes slammed into the hard shields surronding them, any remaining force being abosrbed by the meters of Endor armor. The Fury gave as good as she got, firing plasma and railgun slugs indiscriminately into the fleet. When an Akira loomed infront of them, Hurog didn't bother altering course, trusting in his ship's superior bulk as the two warships glanced off one another.

However, the four kroozers lacked the sophisticated armor and shields of the Fury. With Fedral fire becoming to intense, one lost control completely as one of its engines exploded thanks to a direct torpedo hit. All stability and control lost, the kroozer tumbled prow-over-stern into the enemy, slamming against one of the larger Fedral ships. The unreliable fusion engines finally gave up the ghost, unable to sustain any more damage. Containment fields collapsed and energy cores expanded out of control, quickly erupting with the strength of a small starburst.

Back at Babel the Ork dessies fought a desperate struggle against the new arrivals. One of the remaining Marauders, trying to ram the Star Destroyer's bridge, was felled by a fusilade of turbo-laser fire as it closed in. Reavers, lacking the armor of the Marauders, increasingly came under fire as their fighter cover fled or was destroyed.

Their torpedoes spent, the fighta-bomberz continued to attack enemy capital ships and fighters, peppering them with mini-slugs from their chaingunz. The arrival of X-wings made it apparent to the Ork pilots that they were out of their league. Abandoning targets in orbit, nearly 3 dozen Ork strikecraft descended on Planet Babel itself, tearing through its atmosphere to strike at the signing itself.

Two Reavers, seeing their fighter cover deserting them, decided to follow suit. Disengaging from the main battle they began a "controlled" descent through Babel's atmoshpere, braving counter-fire from both the ground and above. After a typically meteroric flight, the two destroyers put down several miles to the north of the main city. In less than two hours nearly 800 Ork troops, equipped mostly with small arms (for Orks, anyway) were advancing towards the city they had overshot.

By now Jelok's warband had passed out of the scorched fields that marked their dropzone and into the city.*

OOC: @Drakun: your commanders -did- notice that everyone is shooting at the Greenskinz fleet?

On the outskirts of the Bable system, the rest of the Weyrean fleet was translating in. New Paradigm class cruisers flashed in at velocities of hundreds of kilometers per second, their active sensors flaring on, shields at full. The fleet was small, packing only two Pyre-class battlewagons, six cruisers, a dreadnaught, and another carrier. It would be some time before it would get within visual contact of the battle.

The WSGS Rondo carrier fired off maneuvering engines, swinging sideways to launch its entire complement of over two hundred fighters and bombers before activatng its own shields. With plasma shielding on, the small craft were practically invisible to active sensors. They swarmed towards the Greenskinz ships closest to the WSGS Pyre.

The Pyre, its forward section blown away, launched grapnels onto a passing enemy ship. Your choice which one Scores of nanofiber cables groaned beneath the stress, as the Pyre pulled the enemy close, while its remaining cannon blasted at the ork gun emplacements. When the ships would get within a hundred meters, boarding pods would launch towards the enemy, ready to shred through armor, carrying hundreds of men and women in full armor.

Starfortress bombers came in fast, dumping their payloads of fragile antimatter canisters onto the nearest Greenskinz ships, covered by their fighter escort. A score went down to enemy fire.

On the surface, the two magi'i nonchalantly watched their surroundings OOC: waiting description. The Weyrean legate's eyes were unfocused, as though looking at something far away.

"Very well. Order the starfighters to take down as many as they can, and start spinning up the assault shuttles! They want a ground war, we'll give them one! As for us, let's finish off the enemy fleet!"

"Aye, aye, sir!"

Even as the Star Destroyer continues to a fire green rays of death at the orcs, battle-hardened marines started piling into their assigned assault LAAT shuttles, and the shuttles headed for Babel, behind the starfighters. The X-wings split into fighter wings (4 per wing) and went fighting the enemy fighter-bomberz or attacking the ships heading for the surface. 1000 troops were sent, and the other half were held in reserve.

Babel City, where the signing is held, is a lightly forested city with a population of 2-3 million inhabitants. It borders a lake, with bridges crossing to and from the suburbs. The orcs would enter a rather large park before they reach the city itself, spooking the civilians so that they fled and locked their doors or grabbed weapons in defense.

As the Pyre pulled the Marauder ship Leet Spaze Boyz closer to iniate boardings, the Leet's kaptain took matters into his own hands. Grabbing the control stick, he swerved the destroyer towards the Weyrean battleship, slamming into its side at immense speeds. As both ships became entangled in the wreckage, swarms of Greenskinz in primitive vacuum suits began swarming across to the wounded battleship, clashing with marines en route. Though vastly outnumbered the Orks fought with all the fury and determination characteristic of their race, launching suicidal attacks or coming to grips with the enemy, fighting with short range pistols and cutting torches.

On the surface, Ork warriors cheered as fighta-bomberz thundered overhead, those still with torpedoes dropping them on whatever looked good. Most were duds and simply left a big crater, but too many of the "nukleer" warheads went off, paving the way for the Greenskinz. As they entered the suburbs, Jelok's Orks and those from the Reaver ships spotted and quickly lost sight of one another, as both groups charged into the city proper. Ignoring the cowering civilians, the Orks would pour firepower into any house that offered resistance, relentlessly advancing towards the city center.

Back in space, another kroozer fell victim to Fedral guns, its crew firing to the very end. As Hurog squinted through the dense smoke filling the bridge, a message from the enemy fleet arrived.

"Enemy fleet, this is the Nighthawk of the Allied fleet. You are outnumbered and outmatched. Surrender now and we'll all spare your lives."

The Ork warlod laughed at this, patching through his own message.

"Yooz must be real stoopid to think dat an Ork wuld surrender to the likez of yoo. Dis was just a skirmish, and weze see how weak yoo really are. Da Greenskinz will have der revenge, and will have yoor peoples as slaves."

Grand Cleava' Hurog, leader of the Fleshcleaver Clan and Supreme Warlord of the Greenskinz (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/Bad_Skeelz/Hurog.gif)

With that, Hurog turned on the tachyon drive. The space around his ship was encompassed by a bubble of pure energy, with the rules of physics taking a vacation from the inside. All practical laws of nature temporarily abolished, Hurog and the surviving kroozers zipped off into the void, abandoning the rest of the fleet to fight another day.

Not that the rest of the fleet noticed. Outmatched and outgunned, the dessies were fighting a losing battle against the Federation. Of the two remaining Reaver ships, one was afire and the second had crashed while attempting to land on Babel. A huge, smoking crater marked its impact point south of the city. Three Marauders had been destroyed outright, melted into slag by the cannons of the enemy fleet. The remaining five (the six being engaged with the Pyre ) became increasingly reckless, as kaptains tried to ram the enemy with their failing ships. By now almost all of the Ork fighters had abandoned the space fight, instead battling X-wings over the city.

*Theme from Mortal Kombat plays*

The 4 Star Destroyers formed up and dipped their bows to unleash their finishing moves: the Heavy Dorsal Turbolaser Attack! These 8 turbolasers on each ISD are the heaviest in their arsenal, the bolts from them are two meters thick and several kilometers long, and they are the main reason why a single ISD can melt the crust of a planet in an hour. They cannot track light ships or fighters very well, but the can snap a heavier ship in half or vaporize an unlucky light ship, shields and all.

Now, it was these turbolasers that were unleashed upon the remaining Ork fleet, each bolt packing several teratons of purely destructive energy. Woe be to the Orks, for their destruction is at hand!

On the ground, the first wave of Orks soon reached the Ceremony grounds and were met with heavy resistance by the Guards, the Jedi and the delegates-who-can-fight. Blaster and gunfire and the humm of lightsabers filled the air as the royal guards shot them and the two Jedi cut them down, blurs to the naked eye.

While some troop decimated "ugly" troops others were cut down at differnt landing zones. Sith Knights ignited their ruby red sabers and charged blocking using the force and slicing the "Uglies". A group of Sith Knights (6) had their own transport and had landed near the conference area. Ignoring the Jedi the Sith fought darkly...

One by one, the gunz of the Ork ships fell silent as power failed or bulkheads collapsed. Soon there would only be drifting hulks above Babel. The one exception was the dessie grappling with the Pyre: sporadic explosions could still be seen as the two crews battled it out.

The surface troops were rapidly losing the battle, but as they had no where to go they didn't bother surrendering. After the intial assault on the Council Hall, the vast bulk of the Orks retreated into the suburbs, reluctant to expose themselves to sniper fire. Nearly 300 were killed outside the Hall, though it was hard to determine exactly how many Greenskinz were wandering the city, clashing with Federation troops.

One of these groups was the survivors from the ill-fated 'Ammer, still under the command of Kaptain Jelok. He had left his shotax buried in a soldier's chest a few miles back, and he now carried a hand flamer. In all, he and about twenty of his krew were holed up in a hotel overlooking the lake. With Federal troops closing in, Jelok had ordered all civilains to the windows in an effort to block incoming fire. He found the hand flamer particularly useful in speeding up those who moved too slowly...

The Pyre's flank caved unde the impact. Boarding parties, magi'i, and alchemists raced to the breaches made by the orcs, activating their armor seals. Small battles developed along the outer corridors of the battleship, where magi'i and Star Guard soldiers engaged orks with nanite shields and blades.

The Pyre's corridors were narrow, and battles stalemated. Alchemists coud not use their powers to juch effect. Magi'i shot bursts of azure-gold magefire, incinerating orcs.

Those who chose to cut through bulkheads men with stiff resistance from men and women armed with short blades, who fought retreating action throughout the ship until experienced Star guard and magi'i closed in, hampered by atmospheric leaks where orks had cut through.

The Casena Drifted, during the fight her distress's had gone mostly un-noticed, a few more volleys had crumpled the rest of her engines, only the backup generator keeping her fragile contents alive, a small SOS signal began to emit from the almost lifeless vessel

The four kilometers of mithtil-steel that was the WSGS Rondo shot around the planet of Bable. The carrier had nothing to do with the battle winding down except to wait for the rest pf the Weyrean fleet and refit its fighers.

Recieving what a distress signal....trace completed.... the comm-tech of the Rondo flashed, attaching her thoght tag to the package of data that was the Casena's distress signal

Input target co-ordinates, the captain commanded. The ship altered its trajectory, braking thrusters activated to bring her alongside the damaged vessel.

We have her on visual, the navigator commented moments later.

Looks bad, someone's thought flashed.

Activate tractors.

Emergency crews please report to your transports, the thought/audio words flashed through the carrier's corridors.

Little flashes of light against the Rondo's hull announced the departure of the utility transports. Four headed towards waht appeared to be the launch bay doors -- they were easier to cut through. The other six utilitarian craft chose various positions on the upper hull, near what appeared to be the bridge.

Each craft atched onto a relatively stable piece of hull, and began to cut, their nanite-assisted fusion torches flaring to life, but not before establishing a seal around the cutting area.

"Right, let's get to the bridge"[/i] lieutenant Marche Black spoke, his voice hollow over the comm bands as he stepped into the ruined outer corridor of the ship, followed by his squad of engineer-medic-soldiers.

Other squads from other transport craft were sweeping for survivors as they moved towards pre-assigned areas of the ship, among them the warp core controls, the bridge, the transporter room, and the crew quarters.

On the planet surface, the two magi'i abscently carved up orks alongside the legate, who produced a gravity blade (think light sabre but with a messed up name) from beneth the folds of his cloak. Their job was to observe, and to protect the legate, who really did not need all too much protection. They held their ground, their dual curved katanas A few well-placed blasts of azure-gold flame helped, too, but the magi'i were under orders not to reveal the full scale of their abilities.

The stun grenade rolled across the floor aways before exploding, the concussion slamming into everyone in the room. Jelok, in the middle of issusing orders to another Ork, was dazed by the impact, but not enough to put him out of action. As the Federal marines rushed in, the Ork Kaptain whirled with unnatrual speed, dousing the room with napalm. Diving into the next room -narrowly avoiding a burst of bullets- he heard firing coming from other windows as Federal forces closed in. Seeingg marines coming in through another window, he exhausted the remainder of his fuel, then ditched the flamer. Withdrawing a large pistol, he grabbed a human hostage who was attempting to flee. Using her as a shield he began retreating upstairs, trying to link up with the ten or so Orks (and the 30 odd hostages) there, as the ground floor was quickly being overrun.

With the collapse of a real battlefront, the ground conflict degenerated into house-to-house fighting as Orks seized families and civilians, using them as sheilds against enemy fire. Others simply went down in a blaze of glory: one Ork managed to tear a chaingun from a downed fighta-bomba, practically obliterating an entire commercial section before falling to sniper fire.

Onboard the Leet, things were getting critical. Upon collision with the Pyre, many of the Meks charged with overseeing the fission reactors abandoned their stations, grabbing fuel rods to use in the fight. The few remaining Orks were quickly overwhelmed by the huge task of keeping the nuclear reactors online, and in quick succession both melted down completely. Deadly radiation flooded the dessie, a good deal also spilling out onto the Pyre.

The fusion engines met a similar fate. Already damaged from the battle, their containment fields completely collapsed when the Kaptain ordered "full speed ahead!", hopinh to crash both ships into Babel. The neglected engines exploded, blowing open the rear of the Leet like a joke cigar. This, combined with the radiation spill, effectively wiped out every Ork still onboard.

(Hurog and the two remaining Kroozers escaped after that last message. At about the same time the destroyers were being pulverized by everyone else and their grandma; by the time your shots would have arrived there wouldn't have been much of a fleet to envelope. I didn't miss it, I just ran out of targets.)

Once again, the Orks used their human hostages as shields. The girl being held by Jelok was effectively turned to pulp by the multiple blasts, but the Orks emerged relatively unscathed. However, they had no where else to run to. With a beastial roar the eleven Orks surged forward, engaging the marines in hand to hand combat. Jelok quickly expended his ammunition, using his pistol as a club when the magazine ran dry. The Ork kaptain was the last to fall, his body riddled with bullets and covered with gore, though little of it was his.

Similar scenes played out over the rest of the city, as the last remnants of the Ork drop troops were surrounded and eliminated. Scores of civilains were killed or wounded, forced into the role of meatshield or simply caught in the crossfire. Many of the fighta-bomberz pilots, out of fuel and ammo, piloted teir craft into the largest troop formations they could find. One madork of a pilot almost scored a hit on the Council Hall, though his craft disintegrated under intense ground-fire, accomplishing little more than showering the delegates with flaming bits of wreckage.

With the defeat of Ork ground troops and the destruction of the Leet, the Greenskin attack was effectively over.

Edit:OCC: Whoops, wrong country. Just pretend this was Greenskinz.

Dracun troops ran to through the streets. Going from Building to building. Although it was not there usual routine the troops had been ordered to protect allied/enemy Civillians. Still confused they charged building to building complaining it was too slow. Another 50 or so had been killed or wounded.

Onboard the Dragon's Wrath there was another story due to coming in late too the battle Dracun ships had suffered no more then minimum damage from enemy fighters, and ships. Karnos was happy about this and would was eager to report to his Master. He was only part of two Sith Lords. He was the younger half altough not many people knew it. Darth Tyrano was the real leader of the Dracun Imperium not even the citizens knew his name only he was the Dark Lord of the Sith..the more powerful one. He would have to report victory in the first battle of the UFP.

@Greenskinz :: Can your Tachyon drives be tracked to wherever they were going? The Fleet Admiral Masato Storm will be very pissed when his dreadnaught translates into the system in a few moments....
Greenskinz
04-09-2004, 07:52
OCC: I suppose they could be tracked over a short distance, but the kroozers were not going a short distance. The tachyon drives work on a completely bull-flop theory in that the energy of the tachyons is used to generate a bubble where laws of nature don't apply. With the energy trails not obeying nature, their course becomes very erratic.

A much simpler way would simply to see where the Ork attacks are radiating from. They only gained FTL travel in the last 20-30 years, and much of their infastracture is still located in Gantris IV. This however is right on the Skeelzanian frontier, making a military venture difficult.

"Yes, we should." Yano said, walking out with the half-elf Tydera amid the dead bodies. "Although I can't help but wonder how angry my cousin would be when he recieves the report of the battle."

Two guards were killed in battle, and 5 starfighters & pilots will have to be replaced. About 150 marines were among the body count. The Star Destroyer Dragon Rage only lost some shield power and a few laser cannons, but it's still good to go.

Amid the medics tending to the wounded, droids helped to clean up the mess, and construction droids were sent for to make the city anew. Now, the signing must go on!

The Emperor held barely controlled anger as he read the report from his cousin the SecState and his commanders in the field. Using a Jedi calming technique to calm himself down, he crumpled up the paper and turned to his military attache.

"Bob, I want you to spin up the probe droids. Launch as many as you have available, and start looking for these Orks' space territory. I want to know everything about them, down to the number of warts on their leaders' faces. Is that understood?" Andrew ordered coldly.

"Y-yes sir!" No one liked to be in the way of the Emperor in that tone of voice, and Bob was no exception. He hurried off to carry out the order.

Fleet Admiral Masato "Mouse" Storm terminated the trideo uplink, which was instantly broadcasted on open band to the surrounding forces. His small fleet was in formation some few thousand kilometers away from the planet, exchanging tightbeam transmissions and generally drifting in orbit around the system's sun. He decided to send a transmission to CoreWorlds asking if his fleet could stay here for a period of time. He had a hunch that these 'Orks' would be back.

Four of the six repair frigates attached to the rapid response fleet were filled with muttering Star Guard crew. The Pyre's missile magazine's detonation destroyed the firien cells, while not even remotely touching the translation drive. A vessel the size of the Pyre could not be patched up anywhere except in the Paradigm stardock.....

At the edge of the hyper limit of the Bable system a trio of ship just crossed the Alpha wall of hyperspace reappearing in normal space. They quickly transitioned from hyper-sails to the gravity wedge that would propel them through normal space. The WIckian delegation had arrived late, but they were now here.

C.N.S Equality
Arduous Class BC(p)
Delegation Flagship

The Equality and her two destroyer consorts quickly accelerated towards Bable. The trio of ships went to battle alert seeing the evidence extensive battle that was just fought. Commodore McKeon sent a message to all UFP commands in the system. McKeon was short for a WIckian standing barely 5'2'', but like the rest of his race his strong, muscular body was emphasized by the form-fitting glossy green and black skin suit that the Commonwealth navy wore when on alert. He like all his people also had no hair, instead his skull was ringed with translucent neon colored "Eye-stripping" that curved around every WIckian skull in unique patterned and hue. Through years of genetic manipulation WIckians were still human but also not quite human...anymore.

The WIckian delegation apologizes for our tardiness, however we still
intend to sign the charter that is if the signing is still going to occur
