Colonial Navy Battlegroup 1.3 was traveling at its highest speed towards Greece as the sun slowly set behind them and the distant rumbling of thunder accompanied them on thier voyage. Upon hearing word of a massive slave-market through public channels, the Colonial Government had decided to take action. The Democratic Colonies was hoping that the Colonial Battlegroup en route to Greece, in conjunction with diplomatic efforts, would be enough to stop the slavery, but it was unlikely. For those willing to admit it, although the Colonial Navy would put on a bit of a show by having a battlegroup linger outside of Greek waters, military action was unlikely even if the slavery continued - Nikolaos The Great was a large nation, and although the Democratic Colonies often spoke of high ideals and fighting for the freedom of others, the people of the Colonies were rarely prepared to accept the losses and costs of living up to the high ideals and rhetoric they so loved. A fight with Nikolaos The Great would undoubtedly take a heavy toll on the Colonial Navy; a toll that many would consider to be far to much to buy the freedom of strangers.

Aboard the CNS Atlantis, a Pax Magellanic Class Aircraft Carrier and the command vessel of Colonial Battlegroup 1.3, an unusal silence could be heard throughout the corridors and stairwells of the great ship. Aside from the hum of the engines and the sound of waves breaking against her hull, there seemed to be near silence as the crew of the vessel were gathered around LCD screens, or personal computers, workstations, even PDAs - it seemed like the entire crew was simply gathered around anything with a video screen, thier complete and utter attention focused on what was being broadcast.

Aboard the CNS Atlantis, the other ships of Battlegroup 3.1 and indeed, homes around all of the Democratic Colonies, the image of the Colonial President flickered off the air, and all were simply left to wonder what would come next.

The Colonial Government is at a loss to explain what occured, or why it seemed to be far behind on how developments proceeded. Colonial communications specialists are offering up somekind of time lag error as a probable explanation. The Colonial Weather service believes that harsh weather slowing radio transmissions might be to blame. The Colonial Environmental Department believes that migrating geese may have caused a data-transfer failure, Colonial Energy believes a minor power fluncuation may have caused it, the Star Trek Fan Club of the Colonies believes it may have been a time warp, the various cults of the Democratic Colonies believe it to be a sign of the apocolypse (again), and the Colonial Intelligence Service insists it was all just swamp gas reflected off a weather ballon with the planet Venus somehow involved. The Jamil Union has been closely observing the situation in Greece. We applaud the Dracun Imperium's efforts in stabilizing an extremely volatile situation. As a nation, we deplore Slavery and urge Nickolas the Great to take steps to end it. In short, we fully support Kahta in the matter.

Despite our views, the Jamil Union will remain neutral should any conflict actually break out in the Mediterranean. We do not have the either the economic or military capacity to participate in any campaign. Rather we are deploying a single scout ship, the JNS Pride, to merely observe the actions of the regional powers.

The military base originally established as a result of the Al Anbar conflict in which the corrupt and murderous regime in Iraq and Syria had been toppled, was now being readied for another possible liberation. Orders had just arrived from the Caribbean that military action against Nikolaos the Great's Greece was possible at any time and a rapid strike would be needed.

Aircraft prepared for launch as already the patrol and surveillance aircraft were pulled away from the Earth and took to the air. Others prepared for bombing and air superiority missions, as in the naval portion of the Drakonian Military Base vessels prepared to disembark. Meanwhile, the battalions of the 6th Expeditionary Legion were prepared for immediate military deployment. The edge in the Drakonian's earlier message was punctuated by the almost immediate actions of those soldiers, sailors, and airmen so far from their home.

But the immediate reaction was only shared by those Drakonians in Izmir. On the continent of Nusquam Esse and in the Caribbean there was a heightened show of military preparedness. The early shipments of supplies lifted off from Bloody Bay Military Base on the isle of Tobago and several naval vessels altered their courses for the Mediterranean Sea. Where those ship currently patrolling the waves altered their own course toward Abu-Dhabi Khristatatan Turkey and NTG Greece.

The threat first made in the Diplomatic Communiqué was made clear by the action the Imperium had taken. The only question that remained was would Nikolaos the Great take it seriously, or be damned.

"I have officially closed down the slave market and it was a foolish idea from the start. I rethough this situation over and over in my head when I realized what I was doing. It was the same thing that the Ottoman Empire did to us. We where slaves to them for 400 years and as our motto says so "Freedom or Death" I have ordered all the slave camps to be closed down and turned into military bases. The slaves will be kept in a medical camps and then will be send out to the soon to be new modernized Albania and FYROM. They will be allowed to have there own governmdent under supervision of our governors in there nations. They are not permitted to have an army greater then 100,000 manpower. If they are to be attacked they will be protected from the Hellenic National Guard. I apalogize greatly to the people of Greece for putting there lives at risk in a war against international supwerpowers and I also apalogize to the slaves. You are now free men and live your lifes. But on the bright side crime in Greece has droped by 40% by the "New Law", which will soon change, and is still droping. The Assembly is dismised."

The Imperium requests that the Emirate Humanitarian Organization (a part of the United Emirates) be allowed to assist in the Humanitarian support of refugees (and former slaves). Shipments of food, water, and other necessities would be quickly provided to those in need of them. This would also serve to verify independently to the International Community that the refugees are indeed no longer being treated poorly.

We do not wish war, but are not afraid to use force. However, diplomacy is always preferred and we wish nothing more or less than to help those suffering and ensure the civil and humane treatment that is the right of all sentient beings.

OOC: Sorry, to revive, but I am just tying up loose ends here. Now that Hurricane Francis has gone up north.

NTG, you might want to note that the Imperium has operated naval vessels in the Mediterranean for a great deal of time now, earlier Imperium vessels first sailed into the Sea probably greater than a millennia ago (yep, 1000+ years ago...the Imperium is rather old). Recently though, activity has been more than just a few deep sea patrol warships (such missions are common Drakonian naval practice). The Al Anbar conflict which I consider a year or two back (Not RL, but NS time...by my reckoning) included major naval fleets being deployed into the Sea and the establishment of a Military (Navy, Air, and Armed Forces) base in Izmir, Turkey. Anyway, things have died down greatly since then, but the random patrol vessels and those assigned to make a stop at Izmir do pass through.

Things had cooled down, but there was maintenance of an above average alert level for the Military Base so close to Greece. The situation appeared to have cleared itself, but watchfulness was required.

Surprisingly, as a second wave of aircraft landed on the Military Bases' landing strips they were not military, but civilian and clearly marked so. Sterile polished silver was marked with three white strips and in their center the universal symbol for medical and humanitarian aid: a crimson cross. These were aircraft of the Emirate Humanitarian Organization, arriving in anticipation of possible deployment to Greece.

Meanwhile, outside the base in and above the western Territorial Waters of Abu-Dhabi Khristatatan Turkey the Drakonian forces had lightened most returning and arriving at Izmir Military Base. Yet, some remained; a pair of warships along with combat air patrols and a long-range surveillance aircraft. They too were watchful.

All considered the Dracun Imperium's statements that "everything had worked out peacefully" seemed to be coming true.

And what is your response to my offer of EHO support? Please note, EHO is not just a give out free stuff organization, the establishment of infrastructure and functional government/free work force is also available. Our invasion plan on Generic empire backfired since the GE went into a civil war between the two brothers of the dead emperor and our intel reports say that one of them is interested in Greece.

The Imperium again requests that the Emirate Humanitarian Organization be allowed to assist in the Humanitarian support of refugees (and former slaves). We repeat ourselves because no answer was given. We offer Greece free assistance in care and deportation of the refugees, that is all.

The Imperium suggests NTG accept this offer, because it will also prove to the world they have ended this violation of sentient rights. However, if NTG declines the aid we are also willing to send in inspectors (if permitted) to verify NTG honorable conduct.

We await a clear answer.

The rest of that earlier message was simply saying: "do not follow through on your threats against our citizens and military in the Mediterranean Sea." That is all. But anyway on the humanitarian aid and verification, which will obviously be found true (because you just told us OOCly you did it).

I'm afraid it doesn't quite work like that in the context of slavery. Human rights covers most Nations, unless your civil rights is down to the lowest it can go. Slavery is a direct breach of such, and results in a lot of people getting terribly angry.

OOC: Okay, but isn't it that nation's choice what to do with their citizens? Furthermore, if you're so opposed, then why not resort to buying out all their slaves and setting them free?

The aid flights began almost immediately, with the Drakonians being only too glad to help. The humanitarian workers also quickly confirmed to the world that Nikolaos The Great was telling the truth. The slavery had indeed ended.

A situation that could have turned for the worse, turned for the better, thanks surprisingly to the intervention of a nation the Imperium considered an enemy. A nation of the Federated Klatchian Coast, of who, the Imperium was currently in a state of war with (a cold war, but war nonetheless).

Although, there were some questions as to the nature of this "foriegn labor force" but it appeared, to the casual eye, entirely legitament. In the end sentient basic civil rights were ensured and the beligerence of the Imperium was all for naught, which was why the Imperium was only too glad to dispatch the foriegn aid. It was a kind of peace offering. One given, one accepted, ensuring the stability of the region.

The aid flights and the Emirate Humanitarian Organizations work would continue until the needs of the refugees and former slaves were fully met, and it was hoped that in time the relations between Drakonia and NTG Greece could be patched. In the meantime, the aircraft would continue to bring their gifts and help those in need of it.

OOC: And with thus I conclude my involvement, thus far. Perhaps in the future we will run into each other again. One would hope though under better circumstances.
