Opening of the widened White Sea-Baltic Canal

Kopparbergs Karelia has decided to open the White Sea-Baltic Canal for other nations to use.

After three years of widening work with the canal it's finally all done. Now it's possible for a Nimitz class carrier to pass thru the waterway.

The maximum beam of a ship allowed in the canal is 260 feet (80 meters) and the maximum length is 1100 feet (335 meters). Maximum draught is 40 feet (12 meters).

The waterway that's completely inside our nationborders starts in St. Petersburg (Baltic Sea) and ends up in Belomorsk (The White Sea), passing several seas.

One absolute condition to have permission to enter the canal is that your nation must not have bad relations with Kopparbergs Karelia.
If you have an embassy in our country (or at least some kind of diplomatic relations) it will simplify matters.

Military ships will only be granted to pass upon request (permanent allowance avaliable).

A map of the canal is available on our homepage (http://peter.korkala.se/kingdom/index.php?action=map&mv=canal).

Sincerly,

Is it... frozen for much of the year? And does anyone want to get to or from the White Sea? These are the questions pondered by amature enthusiasts in Lusaka, an African nation with absolutely no direct or official interest in the apparently less than cost-effective adventure.

Well it should be frozen between november and march, but we're icebreaking it when it's necessary during the winter.

And we think that someone may want to use the canal. By useing it you don't need to round the Scandinavian peninsula. Maybe for trade routes from northern Russia to Germany/Poland? We're sure there must be a use of the canal. :)

Thank you for showing your interest. You're welcome to give us more ponders from Africa! :-)

I think it depends. What Earth are you on for a start, 'cos if you're on Earth 2 I think Russia's claimed.

Yes, it's Earth II.
As what I've found, it was only the eastern part of Russia that was claimed.

I clamed my nation in the Earth II thread, and nobody has told me that it was already claimed (of course I searched before I claimed).
