In the past few weeks the Jarridian economy has been under increased stress due to an escalating trade deficit. In the late afternoon yesterday our markets plunged into depression. The Jarridian Mau is nearly worthless in comparison to the dollar. Many Jarridians have lost everything, and our Bureau of Economic and Employment Affairs has had the following results:

In the upcoming weeks and months, nearly 45% of all Jarridians will collapse into poverty. 20% of these people will be within the realm of absolute poverty. An estimated 15 million people will be homeless, and another 8 million will starve in our own streets.

Already, many of the more prestigious areas of Jarridian cities have been ransacked by poorer members of society, and many houses have been abandoned. The Jarridian automobile industry is expected to layoff as many as 250-500 thousand employees over the next 5 months.

Presidential Economic Advisors have informed the president and the rest of his staff that with current conditions, we are expecting no economic turn around of any kind. Optimism has been shot in the high ranks of our government as the conditions worsen today. This has been the largest economic collapse in Jarridian history, and our deficit continues to increase.

The President is expected to make an address to the nation later tonight on the events of yesterday and today. In a sense, the Pure Democracy of Jarridia has turned into a 3rd world nation overnight, with no hope of an economic rebound in the near future.

Presidential Speech

It was in the early evening as Jarrod entered the press room. The cameras flashed all around him and he was cued by the television director when it was time to begin.

"Good evening Jarridia. I come to you in a very dark and depressing hour. As many of you are aware by now, our economy has collapsed. Our coffers are exhausted and our deficit is increasing. In short, our great nation is bankrupt.

We are taking precautionary measures in an effort to avoid imperialistic ideals by hostile nations, who wish to use our misfortune to their advantage. Security has been stepped up, while other programs have been slashed.

For many years we have been a bright light in prosperity and peace, offering money to nations in need and having a very extensive welfare program for our citizens. Today, I am announcing a turn around policy. Today, in a suprisingly quick move, I, along with congress, have accepted a new doctrine. We collectively call this the "Jarridia First" policy. All foreign aid, in the form of monetary or military, will be suspended until further notice. All money previously spent on foreign aid will now be placed in economic recovery and temporary welfare programs.

Do not fear Jarridia. Your government is determined to find the root of the issues, and right what is wrong. The recent terror activities by Terror of the world have little to do with our economic downfall. We must be vigilant, and above all, keep eachother safe in our upturned world. The police of all cities have been given the word to end any suspicious activity. This includes looting, and violent actions towards other citizens. We will take action, and Jarridia will rise again"

The press room is quiet, except for a few quick clicks of cameras. The president walks off the stage, he enters the hall, and his head lowers. Jarrod has always been very close to his nation, when its in pain, he is too.

They are mainly manufacturing jobs. They are not sweat-shop jobs, but rather skilled work in computer parts, automobile, and appliance. There are also some data entry and other office related jobs. Your people will be paid in Khrysts at Kryozerkian full-time minimum wage, which is §20/h, or $12 (USD) per hour, and we will provide full benefits for them until Jarradia can get back on its feet.

1) not entirely true, doesnt work in reality as most money goes into the first people's pockets and stays there. The money also has to come from corporations, which slows them down, the net effect of 1) is actually very little.

however you can also create jobs by just making people's expectations rise, they expect jobs, and spedn a bit more. a bit like one, but without the government taking money from anywhere and so cancelling the effect... so like you described one, but its better if you just raise incetives for growth,m subsidies and tax breaks for business and stuff.

Trade deficits have yet to actually hurt anyone, it just lowers your output, as it is a cost. (GDP) its moeny leaving the country, but if gorwth is occuring, then obviously more output is being created than money is lost.. well sort of..

Evil Overlord Enterprises is insterested in opening the Jarridian market. EOE would like to open mines, build factories, and create subsidiary businesses to support these functions within Jarridia. Local workers will be hired- initially under EOE management, but talented managers and leaders will be promoted to control local operations under EOE oversight. The total Jarridian employment by EOE could eventually reach as many as 200,000, all over the country. EOE is also willing to hire skilled construction workers to assist in re-building the local infrastructure in the Redoubt Islands.

EOE wages are historically higher than most other corporations, and exceptional personnel can expect to be promoted rapidly. Evil Overlord Enterprises intends to manufacture and sell goods and provide services useful to Jarridians and the Jarridian government, as well as Jarridia's neighbors. The resulting increase in wages and business (and therefore taxes) should help re-stimulate Jarridia's faltering economy.

Evil Overlord Enterprises intends to make a profit, but His Omniferocity's policy is to improve economic stability worldwide wherever practical. This creates more people who can afford EOE's products and services. Everyone benefits, in the long run.

This is subject to the Jarridian government's approval, of course, but EOE is ready to begin operations within two weeks.

We would likewise be interested in entering the Jarridian market. Our main industries are "heavy" industries, but we also have a good sideline in electronics, which is being rapidly expanded for both military and civil purposes. We are committed to providing the highest possible standards for the workers; all of our companies are obliged in law to provide workers working for them, regardless of location or origin, with:

*Dining facilities;
*Accommodation, supplied with running, treated water and electricity;
*Medical care up to minor surgery (in other words first aid, but nothing major like a heart bypass);
*Wages at least 10% above the minimum wage in the country;

My country is still very poor but we do have fertile valleys and if need be we can arrage to send some of our surplus to your country as humanitarian aid. it is not much but in situations of hardship any helping hand can oftimes be welcome.

I see that as a threat to national security. If that is how you do business, then Jarridia will have nothing to do with it.


Parthians - That's not really an option. Jarridia is bankrupt, therefore, we do not have the funds to support any more military than we already have.

In addition to the senior managers and builders we are sending to help revive your economy by building and establishing factories, as well as a charity reconstruction industry, we are going to, if you need, send reservist to assist in defending your nation if at this time you are unable to expand and you are worried about being vulnerable.
