New Bonstocknian Constitution

Delegates from Bonstock proper, Maropian Coast, and the Sakishima Islands have met in Port Yuko to decide on a new constitution for the Federal Republic.

Central tenets of this new constitution are that Bonstock, Maropian Coast, and the Sakishima Islands will all become equal states in a new Federal Republic.

Each state will hav responsibility for domestic affairs that happen within it. For example, education, health, police, and other local powers.

Meanwhile, they will delegate powers of defense, foreign affairs, and interstate commerce regulation to the new Federal Republic.

The Federal Republic government will have the sole power to raise taxes, coin money, raise armies, create post offices, (basically everything the US government can do; this is sorta based off the US model and I'm not interested in writing some big long constitution).

There will be three branches of Bonstocknian government. The executive power will be vested in the President and his cabinet. Legaslative power will be based in a bicameral Congress. Judicial power will be vested in a Supreme Court and lesser courts established by the Congress.

After all is said and done, Bonstock, Maropian Coast, and the Sakishima Islands should be equal states under a single government, dispelling accusations of Bonstock being a colonial overlord to them both.

OOC: does the constitution make reference to a 'united, indivisible federal republic' by any chance? Just wondering if you are going to try to solidify your hold on the MC and Sakishimas.

Yes... "One Nation, Under Nothing, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."

Keep in mind that MC, Bonstock, and SI will be equals in this new Federal Republic.

OOC: Yes but I figure that people objecting to your presence in MC will seize on that sentence to say 'aha!' Bonstock never intended to give them up anyway

I never did intend to give them up, and far as I see I wont.

This is a highly suspicious action. But more ridiculous then suspicious, as the people of Bonstock will probably, after however many years of colonial overlordship of these territories, feel insulted as these former Colonial underlings are now their equal citizens.

Furthermore, it has not been established that Bonstock has rightful claim over these hotly contested areas.

We shall be waiting for __Taiwan's reaction to this...

ooc: actually, MC citizens have always been equal to Bonstock. Sure, Bonstocknian presidents handed defense and foreign affairs matters for them, but politically, there was no difference. that's been standing since the Great Bonstocknian Civil War, when communists took over Bonstock proper and the government fled to Maropian Coast. Eventually, the government won out. Maropians have always been represented in the Bonstocknian parliament, and their citizens vote for the Bonstocknian President. MC is almost to Bonstock as Hawaii is to the United States, only it has a lot more power because the population is so much greater in comparison with the rest of Bonstock.

It's not some colony where an elite majority of foreign rulers oppresses the native majority. Indeed, many Maropians have emigrated to Bonstock, and at least 80% of all Bonstocknians can trace ancestry to MC, thanks in part to intermarriage.

OOC:Bonstock always have his citizens in full support of his nation, theres never a majority of peaople against anything. SO sometimes I don't like RPing with you Bonstock. Remeber that survey of having Maropian COast returned to Taiwan had onlt 1%. Thant is bs'. Sorry, just needed to make a point.

Xiaguo reopened trade with Bonstock as of yesterday and major Xiannese companies with government backing are in agreement to purchase ports and such from Bonstock.

he Xiannese Constitution is kind of like the French Constitution. However, with Monarchs and greater power for the monarchs.

OOC: Kim jong-il always has the support of his whole nation, and Bush never complains!

Remember, a majority of Maropians want to be independent, but they see Taiwan and President Zhang as too friendly to Sino, who they are quite weary of.

Also, back in the first Japann war, most of the Bonstocknian people didn't want to go to war. That all changed when East Islandia bombed us. From then on, most Bonstocknians wanted their blood.

During the Yemen invasion, most Bonstocknians simply didn't care. There were protests, but people were more interested in watching soap operas.

True, not many Bonstocknians would have supported Harald's invasion of Okinawa, but they were too supportive of Harald as eh had liberated them from Monty Burns. Besides, only Harald's personally loyal guards fought.

During the Taiwan missile crisis, most Maropians wanted the nukes, but most Bonstocknians didn't want the nukes there. So they cancelled each other out.
