The International Dodgeball Tournament

The International Dodgeball Tournament (IDT) will be hosted this year in the Castillanian Capital of Santiago and include nations from across the NationStates World, where nations will play Dodgeball and compete with each other to hold the title of World Dodgeball Champion. The tournament will span over two weeks and include twenty four teams, which will both be placed in five groups of four, where the top two teams of each group will advance to the next round, where teams will compete against each other in a play-off style competition, and the two finalists will play each other in the championship game. The tournament will be hosted at the Copa Drome (http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/europe/greece/athens_velodrome.jpg) in Downtown Santiago, Castillanos.

Once the slots are filled, the teams will be ranked from 1 - 24, which will have major effects on the scores of the tournament. To determine ranks, Castillanos will roll dice, and the teams with the highest rolls will be in the top ranks of the tournament, while teams with the lowest rolls will be at the bottom. Teams on top will have bonous's, such as the top two teams will receive a bye, while the two teams on bottom will be handicaped and
have to play with four players, which will have a major affect on scores. The rules of the game are as followed:

PLAY
A. There will be 6 people playing per team during the game.
B. A match consists 3 game series. Teams change court/sides after each game.
C. The number of balls for a 12 player games six balls — four standard (8.5') and 2 “stingers”™(5')
D. Prior to the match, the referees will conduct a coin toss with both team captains to determine choice of ends.
E. Players then take a position behind their endline. After a signal by the official, teams approach the centerlines to retrieve he balls.
F. Balls must be taken back across the end lines before they can be thrown at an opposing player. If the ball is not taken behind the endline before it is thrown the throw will not count.
G. Players then attempt to eliminate members of the opposing team by tagging them with the ball. If a player is hit with any ball that has not yet touched the floor, that player is “out”.
H. Play continues until one team is eliminated. At that point, the referee calls time and awards the winning team one point for each remaining player.
I. The balls are then reset on the centerline and play resumes when the whistle is blown.
J. When time runs out (at the half and at the end of the match) both teams are awarded points for all remaining players.
K. The first team to win a majority of games wins the match.

RULES OF PLAY
A. Uniforms are considered part of a player's body.

B. Any ball that touches the ceiling or wall is a dead ball.

C. If a defender catches a “live” thrown ball the thrower is out and one player then returns to the defenders side in order of first out, first in.

D. If a defender attempts to catch a live ball, but drops it, the defender is out.

E. The defender may block a live ball with another ball. That ball is still a live ball however, until it hits the floor, wall or ceiling.

F. If a blocking ball is dropped as a result of contact from a live ball, then the player who drops the ball is out.

G. A player may block a live ball, then throw the blocking ball down and catch a live ball.

H. A player shall not leave the playing field to avoid being hit or in an attempt to catch a ball.

I. A player may not step into the dead zone.

J. Players who have been called out cannot retrieve stray balls for their teammates, or that ball will be given to the other team.

K. It is illegal for the leading team to control all the balls for more then 5 seconds. A violation will result in the referee stopping play and the balls will be divided evenly.

L. Headshots resulting from a high thrown ball, result in the thrower being called out.

M. A player hit in the head while ducking or dodging IS out.

N. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate ejection from the game.

The Castillanos Heat vs The Tropical Region

At the first round, the Heat recovered all of four balls at the start of the game, leaving the Legion defenseless. Reynaldo Gianecchini scored first, throwing an over-hand ball smashing into Mike Bibbys leg, who crashed to the floor, taking him out of the game. Jackie Chang soon recovered that ball and threw a low ball at Giselle Garvalho, who blocked it with the ball she was holding sending Chang out onto the sidelines with Bibby. Gianecchini threw another fire ball, this time sending Peja Stoyakavic to the sidelines, and maybe also to the hospital. The game continued with Ji Li catching a ball thrown by Yanira Barajas, making her the first player on the Heat to be sent to the sidelines. Ji Li then threw the ball he caught at Loreen Amaya, who dodged it but landed out of bounds, sending her to the sideline, evening the playing field a bit.

The next person out was BoA Kwon, who was hit in the chest by a speeding bullet sent by Garvalho, giving her two kills in the game. With two balls on each side, Li and Owen Thrope double teamed on Luis Perez and Leonel Campos, sending them out of the game. Gianecchini threw another fast ball at Li, who had jumped and tryed to dodge it, but was hit in the leg in mid-air and sending him crashing to the floor. He walked off the field with a bleeding nose while Thrope threw the ball on his side of the field and knocked out Gianecchini who was scrambling trying to get another ball. The field was now one-one, with both Thrope and Garvalho on the field. Thrope, with three of four balls on his side, threw a fast ball at Garvalho, who dodged it and landed on her side. Thrope threw another one at her, but missed as she quickly got up and moved out of the way as the ball bounced right next to her foot. She quickly grabbed a ball as Thrope threw his last ball directly at her, but Garvalho blocked it witht he ball she was holding, sending Thrope out.

Castillanos leads 1 - 0 in the first half, the second half coming up soon.

(OOC: Hawaiian Islands: You can RP the second half.)

The concordiat of Wirraway would also like Castillanos to know that it is creating an Airport database for all NS airports so airlines can find airports better. The concordait would be honored if Castillanos would list its airport in the database

Sure thing, we have just posted our first major airport in your database, and we will continue with our other airports later. Our team, the Heat, would like to play your team, the Wallabies, in a quick scrimmage later on, would you be interested?
