How long IRL do NS patents last?

Well RL patents IRL last 20 years so....If 1 NS year = 1 RL week then 20 RL weeks.

Thx a lot!

You could also switch to using the 21 day = NS year or Month = NS year, and effectively multiply your patent for a very, very long time :)

The better of that system would be a 12 day to 1 year conversion.

There is no set time, and if you want to copyright something you can do it in the NS Copyright thread and it's copyrighted for all time.

Well, patents can be extended...

And, of course, nations have to agree to the patents... if I copy someones design, they have two choices... invade or embargo...

And, of course, nations have to agree to the patents... if I copy someones design, they have two choices... invade or embargo...They could also ignore you, use diplomatic pressure, ask someone else to invade your nation, et cetera.

How long IRL do NS patents last?

Technicly, that would be determined by your government, as patent laws are a function of national governments.

OOCly in NS, they're basicly eternal, tho no one respects patent claims on anything you didn't create yourself.

There's a copyright/patent thread?

Well I want to patent a new technology. It will totaly change the way NS people design ships, planes, and ground vehicles. We will make our own designs but we want to make sure we can make some money off of this and not have a billion copies made. BTW I am talking about modern tech.

It doesn't really matter what kind of tech it is and it's not a patent, it's a copyright. I believe to earn an NS Patent you have to present technical drawings from all major angles. So if you wanted to patent an aircraft you'd have to come up with your own CAD drawings with angles from the top, side, and front.

As for original art, that's a RL copyright. IIRC a couple of people tried to rip off Doujin's artwork, he contacted the Mods, the host sites (angelfire and geocities, respectively), and the offending persons' ISP. I don't think I have to tell you what happened to either person in those cases.

Patents eh... We just buy 1 of them, and then produce as many as we want. Sometimes we'll tweak the design and relabel it, like Saddam did with Eastern Bloc weaponry.

Like we call the M-14, the M-14B.

The Oliver Hazard Perry and Areleigh Burke, are Stalin and Hitler Class ships, the Nimitz is the Fabus Super Carrier. :D

Well is there anyway I can stop people from using this tech for an extended period? I can provide information on the tech, but I wont untill I copyright/patent it.

Not really, if you go to the Copyright thread there are a list of nations who have volunteered to enforce the copyrights with whatever means necessary. However, if someone gets ahold of an example they can reverse engineer it and manufacture it. Totally over running the county is about the only way to stop that kind of thing, unless you can find the locations of the factories and plans and then hit both with some surgical strikes.

CM, no one can copyright RL technology in NS, it's assumed that anyone can manufacture it.

It doesn't really matter what kind of tech it is and it's not a patent, it's a copyright.A copyright is for a literary, musical, dramatic, or artistic work, and a patent is for an invention. He'd want a patent.
I believe to earn an NS Patent you have to present technical drawings from all major angles.I don't think one needs to fill out a patent form for something to be patented IC.
So if you wanted to patent an aircraft you'd have to come up with your own CAD drawings with angles from the top, side, and front. Why would they have to be CAD?
Well is there anyway I can stop people from using this tech for an extended period? I can provide information on the tech, but I wont untill I copyright/patent it.Well, you can't really stop them, but if you keep it top secret and only OOCly provide information, I think people might ignore people who copy it.

I guess..... but it is sad when you have to think about people stealing your stuff. I guess you could either ignor them or take them over. And evn if you do reverse engineer stuff you wont have a true knowledge of the material and tech.

Nianacio, that's what I read once when I was going through the thread, if that's wrong then my mistake.

the IM (http://s6.invisionfree.com/International_Mall/index.php?act=idx)

The IM (International Mall) gives you automatic Copyright on any item you make yourself and is enforced by most people there (DGNT,CF,me,etc etc) its also a good place to shop. if your worried about someone stealing your designs well set up shop at the IM.

{this is not an add its some helpful advice}
