Overview

The Valour-class Battleship was comissioned by the Arenumberg Offices for the Defence of the Motherland, or ODM. The ODM approached the DPUO government requesting a new battleship be built to provide fire-support, ship-to-ship capability, etc. DPUO's Government took up the contract and requested design submissions from the three large shipbuilding companies of the nation. The winning design proposal, chosen after much careful thought and investigation, came from the State Shipbuilding Company (SSC).
The SSC co-operated with the Casena Bay Shipyard and its owners Hyuga Technologies to ensure compatibility with Arunembergian conditions and design needs, and the two were then hired to construct the ships for the ODM.

The specification given by the ODM allowed a high degree of design flexibility - in fact no specification was given, short of "build us a Battleship" - and thus the designers were able to employ various methods to make these ships as effective and safe as possible.

General

Crew: 2,365
Dimensions: Length 407.3m, Beam 41.8m, Draught 9.1m
Displacement: 86,032 tonnes unladen, 97,853 tonnes fully laden
Endurance: 150 days' steaming, 80 days' combat.

Armament

The main arament of these ships is the DK-23 18-inch rifled gun, as fitted to the Frunze-class Battleship, firing a shell of 3,392lbs (this for an armour-piercing round). The guns have a maximum accurate range of approximately 26.9 kilometres and maximum range of 45.2 kilometres, and can fire APDS, HE-FRAG, HE and low-calibre (10-inch) guided shells, as well as a rocket-assisted shells with a range of 56km and accurate an accurate range of 23.4Km, and chemical shells. Barrel life is estimated at 270 full-charge firings per gun. The guns can elavate to 41 degrees and depress to -12 degrees. Rate of fire is approximately 3 RPM per gun. The guns are arrenged in four twin turrets in A, B, X, Y positions, with turrets B and X superfiring.

Secondary armament is composed of 8 2A88N (for Naval) 203mm guns mounted in four twin-gun turrets with an elevation of 44 degrees and depression of -13 degrees. Rate of fire is 2 RPM per gun with the aird of automatic loaders. These guns have a maximum range of 27Km and an optimum accurate range of 18Km, and can fire APHE, HE, HE-FRAG and chemical munitions.

The ship also carries six AK-130 130mm quick-firing guns in two triple turrets mounted abreast the aft superstructure. Rate of fire is 25-30 RPM in burst fire and 12-15 RPM in sustained fire. The guns can elevate to 31 degrees and depress to -17 degrees, have a maximum range of 24.1Km and an optimum accurate range of 15.1Km, and fire AP, APHE, HE-FRAG and smoke shells.

Missile armament comprises the SS-N-22 SSM in two trainable four-round launcher boxes mounted abaft the forward superstructure and the SS-N-19 SSM mounted in a 36-cell VLS system on the centreline of the ship which pierces the reactor spaces.

Long-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile armament is provided by an SA-N-6 long-range SAM system contained in two VLS blocks each of eight launcher cells. The cells are fed by a system of horizontal reloading chutes and a vertical reload system. Mid-range AA/AM systems are the SA-N-9 SAMs of which four are carried on the forward superstructure, again reloaded by vertical ammunition loaders. Short-range air defence si handled by the SA-N-20 SAM (four launchers) and the AO-18 CIWS system (four carried).

The ship is provided with a hangar bay which can accommodate two Ka-27 ASW helicopters or similar, including eight Yak-061 "Shmel" UAVs.

Finally, the class carries three RBU-1000 ASW rocket launchers and four covered torpedo tubes.
