The Otran Empire has enacted new law legalizing slavery. The government is going control the slave camps and how long a person can be inslave for. Also it has enacted 55% tax on all slaves and slave traders. The Otran Empire has also outlawed cruel&unusual punishment against slaves hoping this would save more lifes. This law was passed in an effort to stop illegal slavery within our borders and save the lifes of many slaves that live within our poor regions.
Thank you,

OOC : I know of various moral issues which use the exact same argument. Though for them, it's considered a legitimate argument
IC : Omicron Alpha banned slavery under a century ago. We realised that although there were short-term commercial gains in the sale of a person, that person would no longer be a consumer as such. They do work, sure. But they don't have money to spend from that work afterwards, and many businesses lose out on valuable customers. We noticed a sharp increase in consumer spending (and business prosperity) upon banning slavery and returning slaves to consumer status. Slaving companies became military (mercenary, to you foreign anti-Economists) companies to stay alive, and also prospered. To deliberately damage your economy is... well, is disgusting, really.
