Inside the immense 230-story ATNN Broadcast Building in Tellerus, crews bustled about. The 9:00 news were about to go live. With a nod from the technical crew, the lead anchor, a pretty woman with brown hair, began the broadcast.
"Hello, and thank you for joining us on the Ancient Terran News Network. I'm Melissa Ariya..."
"And I'm Koushiro Iyagi. We have several news reports for you tonight. First, we're going downtown to report on a protest occuring in fr-."
Koushiro stopped talking abruptly as a message popped up on his recessed flatscreen monitor. He paused and read the report, gulping a bit as he looked back up at the camera.
"Well, viewers, it appears that we have a report just in!"
The words "Breaking News" flashed up on televisions across the country, followed by a short clip of thousands of people dancing around a large flag. This is quickly replaced by Melissa again, although the words "Breaking News" remain at the bottom of the screen, scrolling ticker-tape style and interrupted by tidbits of information on the incident. Melissa shuffled her papers and spoke.
“After hundreds of years of conflict, the clan states of Lorardian have finally agreed to lay aside their differences and come together as the Republic of Lorardian. The leaders of the largest clans convened upon neutral grounds earlier this month, and launched into extensive peace talks. The 5 Major Clans of Lorar, Avir, Jirdar, Rakari, and Tirpai played the central role in these negotiations, while over 20 smaller clans were also invited to the meeting.” Kourshiro took over at this point.
“The various clans worked together to hammer out a constitution, select leaders, and to resolve the various border issues that have plauged the island of Lorardian for centuries.
Tariki Karse, Crown Prince of Clan Lorar, has accepted the position of President. He will serve a one-year term. During this time, he will work to establish a stable government, the nation's capital, and to resolve any problems that could endanger Lorardian's stability. Following the end of his term, the people of Lorardian will vote for their leader in the country's first-ever election.
President Karse delivered this statement during a press conference that took place outside of the peace talks:”
A video of President Karse appears on the screen. He is standing behind a podium, and speaking into several microphones. The heads of reporters and cameramen are visible.
"The people of Lorardian have suffered throughout the years. They have suffered through conflict. They have suffered through poverty. They have seen their children lost to the pointless wars that have plagued our lands. They have wondered if the fighting would ever stop.
Today, we finally have an answer, and that answer is yes! No longer must we live in fear! No longer must we suffer through conflict. We must reach out! We cannot allow ourselves to be held back by old rivalries. From this day forward, I ask the people of Lorardian to band together. Regard the other clans as enemies no longer! The clan structure that has dominated our history for centuries is no more. The Republic of Lorardian stands united in its place. Long live the Republic!"
Despite all of the progress that has been made, the Republic still faces a number of struggles in the near-future. Although the largest clans have all agreed on the new constitution, several of the smaller clans refuse to acknowledge the Republic of Lorardian, and have vowed to 'bring it down, whatever the cost'. These clans, mostly located in the Southwest of the country, have banded together under the banner of the “People’s Loyalists Party" (PLP), and are said to be preparing for an offensive against the young nation. President Karse has said that the PLP "will be dealt with".
Melissa began speaking again. “General Tetsu Nomuri, former commander of Clan Rakari's army, has been named 'Commander of the Armed Forces' for Lorardian. The Lorardian army is composed of all of the weapons systems previously used by the Clans against each other. With the cessation of hostilities, they will now form the nucleus of Lorardian's armed forces. Their equipment ranges from 1940's-era aircraft to modern Main Battle Tanks. In the preliminary tally, the army's inventory was shown to be this:”
The inventory appeared on screen, scrowling slowly as information on the various weapons systems flashed up.

Melissa took over. "Now, live downtown is Jessica Balayne, covering the protests..." The newscast continued.
(ooc: Any comments on my armed forces would be appreciated. I expect a lot of it to get mulched in the coming civil war, as well. :D)
