Adjuctant shook as she read the reports pouring in, her breath becomming shallow as fear overtook her. Axis faired no better, her brother able to put on a calm demeanor, but inside it was obvious he was afriad.

Afraid, and looking for revenge...

Only five hours ago, Mekanta was among the most powerful nations in the galaxy. And then, the war with Neo-Mekanta turned against the Steel Imperium...

... And the Empire would never be the same...

The details were all still blurry. Something had simultaneously attacked systems across Mekantan territory, and within minutes had eradicated defense forces. Then the attacks repeated. Again. And again. And again...

Axis had tried to regain control of the situation, but it quickly spiraled further and further out of control. Even if he had been at Central Command in the Nexus, it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference.

The enemy was just too strong, too coordinated. And now over 70% of the Grand Armada had been eradicated, and 85% of Mekantan territories had been completely wiped out.

Tears hit a command console, Adjuctant not even realizing she was crying. Unknowingly mourning the loss of the Imperium...

A loss that hadn't happened, but Axis knew too well was comming...

OOC: VERY well written. Feel free to drop me a line on MSN and tell me if there is any way that I could help with an RP. Alas, with these damned Shivans, I don't seem to be in much position to help, but you never know.

IC: The Thirteen send their deepest regrets and sympathies to Mekanta, as well as wishes of luck. Alas, they can do little else, with one of the largest battles in space history just around the corner.

Axis watched the information unblinking, Adjuctant having become exhausted and falling asleep in her command chair on the Thanatos.

Pausing the information, he looked over at his sister and gently stroked her hair, glad she was at least with him. He wished he could sleep too, despite always being plagued by nightmares. It was a matter of choice, then. This nightmare, or the other?

He shook his head. His dreams left when he woke up. This was too pressing.

Nine thousand years ago... The last time Mekanta suffered a loss of this magnitude.

There was another name for it, however. A more common one.

"The Cataclysm"

His eyes started to drift shut as he thought of that time, so many years ago...

Only one group had ever managed to cause so much destruction to Mekanta...

The entire hive knew something was wrong the moment Kuroi's near-omnipresent rantings and obsceneties stopped. It wasn't the usual stop that denoted the Administrator was thinking.

His reflection in the opaque surface of the his office wall showed him a face that few would believe was the same person everyone thought to be insane. The only sound in the office was Midori's crying.

It all seemed impossible. The glorious Mekantan Steel Imperium, force of the heavens, struck down so easily.

It didn't begin to raise the searing hatred he normally felt. A hatred of the Ferans. Of the Catholics. Of Humanity. But this...

Sadness. That was what the Organics called it. Sadness and... fear?

Turning, he noted that Midori was looking at him through tear-filled eyes. It was odd. They had worked together, Superior and Subordinate, for Jazuras. But he still didn't even know if his assistant, second in command in a way, was even male or female...

He had never really cared, until now. He gave a weak smile, an authentic one. Something that he imagined looked quite strange on his face. "Eight thousand Jazuras ago..."

Midori just blinked, confused.

"The Cataclysm, Midori. The destruction of the Mekantan Empire." He turned, a mental command making the curved surface in front of him turn opaque to see the pale blue skies of Earth. "It was the final battle of the Ascension Wars."

"The first war with Neo-Mekanta..." Midori whispered, taking a shaky breath.

"'Time flows like a river, and history repeats itself.'" He watched the smaller hives as news of Mekanta's defeat reached them, work immediately stopping. He closed his eyes, thinking. "It was Neo-Mekanta... It had to be them..."

He turned back to Midori, rage rising in him again. But it was... different...

He didn't feel blind rage, an anger that encompassed all of existance. This was more focused, clear, directed. All the seething hatred Kuroi felt was directed at one target, the old nemesis of the Imperium. "They're history! They played with fire, and now they're going to get burned!"
