The blood stained sands of Libya

DPUO told me it was okay to make the first move, then he'll reply.

Location:
Mississippian Libya. Just outside New Jerusalem. About 1/2 mile east of the border of Arabian Libya.

Time: 1400 hours.

The cool winds of the evening were beginning to pick up, the were coming early. A young soldier, scarcely over nineteen, was sitting on his T-98 tank, he was the driver, he was taking this brief moment of rest to enjoy a cigar, the good Mississippian tobacco... It was his last one, he'd have to enjoy it, remember the taste, it'd be a while before more came. Supplies had to come in from a long route, or by C-130s, and cigars were low on the priority list. CM had been flying in millions of shells and billions of small arms ammunition, ever since they learned of the intrigue against her commonwealth. The soldier was mostly thinking of his wife and one-year old son in Tripoli, they were only 25 miles away... But here on the border, mobilized and ready, he'd might as well be thousands of miles from home... He knew the order was going to come soon. Over 100 Commonwealth and Federal Divisions had been massed for this, joined by 2 million paramilitaries and 500,000 private citizens who were armed and equipped just like the soldiers... You'd never know they weren't in an army unless they told you... Well they'd probably say, "We're a private army, an army of the white citizenry", but anyway, he knew they were good and determined soldiers, they'd do well.

Finally the order came, the colonel in his tank opened the hatch and shouted, "Hurry up Tom, put that thing out and get in here!". He tossed the cigar down, sighing, he so wanted to finish it... But that wasn't going to happen, the colonel would never let him smoke inside the tank, he hated smoke.

Tom got into the tank and pulled the hatch down, readying to move out...

Along the border of AL/ML, had been amassed a great army, a great army indeed.

2 million paramilitaries organized into the same standard organization as Commonwealth Reserve Divisions. (Except these paramilitaries lack howitzers and the heaviest weapons they have are MILANs and 81mm mortars. But they are trained to about the same level as Federal Army Infantry)

500,000 private citizens, organized into the same standard organization as Commonwealth Reserve Divisions. (Except these people have only assorted heavy weapons. Maybe a few odd mortars, howtizers. The most common weapons are RPG-7s, M-14Bs, AK-74s, M-16A2s, whatever they had in their house. For them, this is an adventure. They have formal training though, and can be counted at least about as good as most reserve units)

I'm just going to count the Paramilitaries and Private Citizens as "Private Divisions"

Commonwealth forces in the attack.
5 Commonwealth Infantry Divisions
3 Commonwealth Armored Division
4 Commonwealth Mechanized Division
1 Commonwealth Marine Divisions
1 Commonwealth Parachute Divisions
20 Commonwealth Reserve Divisions
140 Commonwealth Private Divisions

Federal Forces in the attack.
20 Reserve Divisions
1 Parachute Divisions
1 Rapid Response Airmobile Division
4 Regular Army Infantry Divisions
1 Mechanized BMP Division
1 Mechanized Warrior Division
1 Regular Army Armored Division

The forces were all readying to move against Arabian Libya, where large concentrations of DPUO forces had been stationed under the guise of protecting AL. They knew DPUO forces would seek to use AL as a staging ground to attack ML... They had to move fast and catch them by surprise, at least try to... They figured that DPUO would know they were coming, but not in what strength, where, or when... But they were coming, and they were going to crush the forces massed in AL, at least that was the plan.

100 Commonwealth Libyan B-52s were being loaded with ALCMs in the event they needed to shut the Suez Canal down.. Preparations were already beginning to sink 20+ merchant ships in the Suez Canal to make it useless, at least for a while.

Libyan and Egyptian u-boats were prowling the mediterranean with orders to "Sink without warning, any armed or unarmed ship bearing a hostile flag."

Within a few minutes, the masses of howitzers, SPA, mortars, RPGs, and rocket artillery would come crashing down all along the AL/ML border, as the massive "Army Group West Libya" crashed across the border in a massive juggernaut that would seize Zuwarah and Ghadamis to prevent their being used as a massive staging area by hostiel forces.

The signal was given, the soldiers in the tanks began to drive forward, the BMPs advanced, it was going to be a race againts time. The enemy could reinforce AL by sea. But if Zuwarah was taken quickly enough, it'd be denied to them and they'd have to launch costly amphibious attacks against units entrenched on beaches.

It was all a race against time... And CM high command knew their T-98 tanks would have problems in Arabian Libya... They needed to move fast, and AL was not the sort of terrain for moving fast. But fortunately, those seeking to use AL against ML, had built large networks of roads... If the roads could be held open and the key intersections seized, it might just work.

AL border guards near the main crossing on the coastal highway, repored, "My God! There are millions of them! Coming straight for us!"

Units of the Commonwealth air force wereflying cover:

Total of the ML commonwealth air force.
2,000 F-16Ds
600 Su-25s
600 MiG-31s
100 MiG-41s
200 F-35s
100 B-52s

Note there are also 10,000 federal air force, F-16Ds and a few 100 other assorted craft in ML. Also those numbers don't include Mi-24s, as those are permanently assigned to army units to provide Close-air-support.

Soon the sands of Libya would be stained red, awash with blood...

General Yuna Downing, commander of Sevarisian forces in AL, was shocked when she heard the news.

"There's not much we can do- we have only 10,000 troops. However, we can try to sabotage the roads."

Downing then turned around and sent a directive to the field commanders.

"CM INVASION- THIS IS NO DRILL. RETREAT TO ZUWARAH. BLOW UP ALL BRIDGES/ROADWORK ON YOUR WAY BACK. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!"

The Sevarisian troops then fortified themselves for the coming onslaught. It would be a while until transports would arrive to relieve them.

The Democratic Confederation of Yerffej would like to take this opportunity to convey it's deepest disgust for DPUO's selfish warmongering actions. CM has every right to do what he likes in his own territory, and since Yerffej is a strong pro-sovereignty nation, we are deeply opposed to this.
We are seriously considering intervening on the side of CM.

The two Commonwealth navies of Egypt and Libya were ordered to "Halt all hositle traffic in the Mediterranean at all costs. Fight until your ships are destroyed and the sailors are dead."

The Libyan Navy sailed out of Tripoli, New Jackson City, Tobruk, and Benghazi, readying to move against Zuwarah to stop any supplies and relief from getting in.

The Egyptian Navy sailed from Alexandria and Damietta, towards Suez... They were going to shut the canal down by sinking 20 merchant ships throughout the canal at various points.

Also the 3rd and 4th Federal Fleets were sailing out along the coasts to interrupt any attempts to land along the shores of ML, ME, or AL.

Admiral Ernst Raedar of the 3rd Fleet was ready, he had complete confidence in the fleets abilities to handle themselves.

Mississippi is declaring that, "Any and all hostile ships in world, especially in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, will be sunk without warning. This will apply universally to naval and merchant ships, armed and unarmed. We are hereby advising all non-combatants to take measures to assure they are readily identifiable as non-hostile ships." "Air warning red. Enemy aircraft approaching in attack patterns. Authorise use of all weapons. Engage at will."

It was the order that everyone had been waiting for, none more than Yuri "Crab" Fiddler. An odd name, but not unusual at home, where ethnicities were mixed indeed. The 2S6 was a powerful machine. Four 30mm cannon and 8 SA-19 SAMs, capable of blowing anything from the sky. This was one of ten that had been sitting in the dust all day, camouflaged beneath the sand. They were assigned to the 225th motor-rifle, one of the divisions assigned to guard the borderline against Nazi aggression. Now it ewas time.

He watched through the painstakingly camouflaged optical sight as a flight of F-16Ds came closer to his unit, evidently having not seen him. He waited, waited as he had been taught in training, until it looked right and felt right. And was right.

With a roar of power, the 2S6's engine started and its' turrest swivelled round, throwing off the layer of cloth and sand cover its' top. Four 30mm guns blazed into the belly of an F-16, tearing the fuel tank apart and generating a satisfying explosion as the turret rotated and fired a missile off. The F-16 targeted took the hit quare in the read and exploded. The other two turned to attack his gun vehicle, but the Tunguska destroyed another with cannon fire and the fourth was eliminated by another SAM unit. "Drive! NOW! Back to line two!" shouted Yuri. The Tunguska heaved itself out and began to run for the next defence line, firing indiscriminately at F-16s.

The scene was repeated all over the line. The front could not be held against such air attacks, but the air attacks could be hurt. The SAM and AA crews were skilled, but so were their opponents. The guarding divisions retreated to line #2, behind the layers of mines a mile deep, and artillery and MRLS began to pound the anticipated front line as men with SA-18s hidden in the deserts awaited the arrival of the CM helicopters.

Naval units were able to help. Using their powerful SA-N-6 SAMs, the ships waiting in Zuwarah lit off their SAM radars and began to launch at the targets within range. The N-6 had a range of 300Km, and they were sure to hit something.

Total losses to air attack: 22 2S6M, 15 ZSU-23-4, 8 SA-15, 5 SA-10s, 90 T-94B, 150 BMP-3M, 1,800 personnel.

"Very well. Transmit warning to all stations."

The submarine Poseidon had been halted some 70Km away from the CM fleet for hours at antenna depth. Now she raised her thin radio mast and transmitted a burst message to HQ.

1300 Hours; Grenvali Naval Base Descree; Rufushian, Grenval

In the city, a three million man army was amassing. All fifty Heavy Infantry Divisions were called to active duty. All one hundred Light Infantry Divisions were called to active duty. They had flooded the highways and streets of the city of Rufushian, having recieved their orders. Three million men were to be airdropped into Communist Mississippi, to support the very ideal that Grenval stood against: Imperialism. But the order had come, and the order was fulfilled. The planes, massive giants holding three hundred men each were lining up along the runways of the airfield. With a screech and a roar, the beasts took to the sky, headed for Libya.

And below, on the shoreline, hundreds of ships headed out for sea. Ten entire naval armaments had been called in to support the war effort. They broke the waves of the shoreline, bellowing into the ocean. And onboard the Carrier Vialish, three helicopters took to the skys, scanning every direction.

Mark Gerton, a twenty-three year old special operations squadron leader, sat back in his seat, onboard a Blackhawk with the other ten members of his crew. Their objective was to create a massive diversion with a few well placed explosives inside enemy territory. He sat back, looking out the windows in the door. Below him, the waves rolled on and the dolphins swum, carefree from the oppresive worries of the world. He thought of home, still visible behind him in the city of Rufushian. A small apartment was all, but it was home. Outside the window, two more Blackhawks flew together. And Mark Gerton gave them a thumbs up and he closed his eyes and began to daydream of home.

The front of the tanks were starting to cross over the border crossing checkpoints when suddenly, they all stopped, right on the border they came to a stop. Over 4 million soldiers in tanks, APCs, trucks, Hummers, IFVs, all just stopped.

CM high command had issued a total halt pending peace agreements...

The governor-general, Rivera, who was leading the effort, smashed his hand down on the desk in his mobile command post. He was enraged, how dare high command take his glory, his war... This was supposed to be his moment to shine.

CM Naval forces in the mediterranean also halted and raised flags of truce so all who were looking could see.

Ah, it's all about managing your free time. When you're not working and it's raining outside and the shooting range is closed, get on NS. For those who work in office buildings, you can do two things at once (NS and work)

I find it's quite easy to do multiple things at once, and to do them well.

But hey, we all can't multi-task. :D
