CM proposes the "Parthian-Ottoman" Canal through Iraq and Syria

Communist Mississippi

Representatives of the Fabus Construction Conglomerate, the company that built over 20,000 miles of separate irrigation canals throughout Mississippian Libya and Mississippian Egypt, has suggested a massive canal project from the Persian Gulf, going through Iraq and Syria, and then ending in the Mediterranean Sea. The company has declared that they will handle everything at no cost to the nations the canal will be going through. The CM government will be bankrolling this endeavor.

Another possibility is going through Iran and then Turkey to the Black sea, or to the Mediterranean sea.

CM officials have declared they are not only willing to build the canal and finance it, they are willing to pay the nations involved for their cooperation.

We will think about it.

Ooc- The two nations that own the lands in question are Ottoman Khaif and The Parthians... You don't have any say in this.

The Ottoman Goverment would like a detail map of where the canal may go thougth.

Engineers from Fabus Construction have drawn up a proposal for the possible canal.

From the Persian Gulf, at Al-Basrah, along the Euphrates, until it gets to the lake in Syria, where it then goes to Latakia. (Much of the canal will just be a widened Euphrates River)

"We need assurances that our trade will always continue without interruption. It will do us no good to realize too late we need the canal if key waterways are closed to us. We must build it now while the time is right." Paul Stahlecker.

Whatever. If that thing ever breaks, you'll have a major disaster on your hands. Just a warning.

You do realize that over 90% of the canal is just going to the widened Euphrates River... Yes?

Only a small stretch from where the Euphrates enters into a lake in Syria, to the Mediterranean will be the dug canal.

We are currently awaiting approval from Parthia and Ottoman Khaif so we can start this gargantuan project of unprecedented size.

Does Communist Mississippi realize the costs involved in attempting such a project??

Also, we would like to know if we should feel threatened by this, or if this has anything to do with the NATO ultimatum issued earlier to Communist Mississippi.

"This has to do with the threat to CM commerce around the Red Sea and Gibraltar." Paul Stahlecker.

After hearing that Communist Mississippi is indeed serious about this, Dominus Kawau decides that it may be profitable to help this nation.

While our nations may not meet eye to eye, we do wish to show our trust that you are doing this for the benefit of your people. We are willing to help fund the project if you give Dominion cargo ships right of passage through with our trade in the Middle East, we are mainly concerned with the states of British Morocco and Yupon.

Trust me, I've checked the map, my idea is best. Tigris goes away from the Mediterranean, Euphrates goes so close to it.

Very well. We can supply half a trillion dollars, we do not have the funds to provide anymore, and we are having, difficulty with the Austarian Union and its allies to keep our sovereignty.
OOC: The Canal will be most beneficial for trade on our side, as we are in the Eastern part of the Pacific and we have trade agreements with a few Middle Eastern countries (mostly for glass, steel, and aluminum for our architectural projects). Also, I would like to know, if power comes back to the original government, will the right of passage stay in effect?

Secret Reply: "That sounds great, start sending survey teams to determine the best method to widen the Euphrates river to be able to accommodate all the ships that might conceivably use the canal. Super oil tankers, etc."

We support the project fully. We feel that it will speed the travel of goods to Madagascar. In leiu of funding we would like to offer labor. We are more then willing to send up to 5,000 slaves to aid in construction. We will supply the costs of transport, food, tools, water, and removal of dead for all of these slaves. Just give the word and how many you want. At no cost to you.

Secret: To Ottoman Khaif: To Parthia:

From Communist Mississippi:

"We await only your approval to begin the canal work. You will certainly be allowed to use the canal and you will profit greatly from it. Please grant us permission. Note, that CM wishes to maintain a "Canal Zone" that will be much like the Panama Canal Zone or the Suez Canal Zone, this zone will be 1/4 mile on either side of the canal and will be garrisoned by troops from a variety of nations. The territory will remain fully under the control of the nations that rightfull own it, but the troops there will be under the command of the nations they represent. We believe CM should be permitted to station perhaps 1 Military Police Company every 5 miles along each side of the canal. That is our request to you. They will help provide security to the canal to prevent possible terrorist attacks, and they will help inspect the canal for any signs of damage due to weather, wear and tear, etc. We await your reply to our proposal."
