In a shocking move earlier today, President Edward Grove became the first President of the Austar Union to take notice of the environment.
In this month's cabinet meeting, senior ministers of the Austar Union discussed the merits of the current state of the economy and environment of the Austar Union. Then it was raised, that there is no need for any changes to be made nation-wide, but that a global conference could be held to discuss the very same thing, in an effort to preserve the global environment.
President Grove made his speech relating to the very issue this morning;
"In today's age of the global economy, it is easy to forget the effects we are having on the world around us in our bid for furthering our own dollar value.
A man may build a factory, with intentions to create jobs, to make money, and to grow the economy in general, whilst he may completly be unwise to the devestating effects his factory can have.
If one man can build a devestating factory, then a thousand men can build a thousand devestating factories. If a thousand factories can be built, a million factories can be built. If a million factories can be built, then a billion factories can be built.
One factory affects the area, a thousand factories affects a city, a million factories affects a nation, a billion factories affects the world. Imagine, for a moment the devestating concequences which a factory, outputting billions of tons of waste into the surrounding environment.
In ten years, there is little changes, but the people are slightly less healthy than their non-industrialised counterparts. In fifty years, the people are sick, the air is empty of oxygen, and the rivers are dying from the tons of waste which is being poured into its systems every day.
In a hundred years, the area is completly barren. The area is uninhabitable to humans, for the air is too filled with toxins, and the waters too toxin to drink. Food growing in the area is virtually impossible, and across, in another area, the cycle is starting again, with that area being slightly affected at first.
What kind of future do you want for your children? Do you want your children to fall sick, perhaps even fatally because you made a desision today to ignore the effects of an unrestricted industry? Do you want your nation to become a barren wasteland, all because you today refused to recognise the future?
This is why, I am hosting a global conference in the name of the environment in Barricade City, Austar Union. Our environment minister will be attending, and hopefully, together, we can make a stand in the name of our children. Hopefully, out of this conference, will come a treaty, making industry standards across the globe.
Today is the time to make and affect the changes which are happening in the world around us, before the changes around us affect, and break the very lives we enjoy today..."
This conference is expected to be hosted sometime next year (RL WEEK), and although President Grove will not be attending himself, the environment minister will be trying her best to push for a pro-future policy in the global arena. This is expected to rise a surge of support for President Grove, who is quickly becoming the nation's favorite president, as he is the first in the Austar Union to tackle environmental issues.
