ic- "LAND LAND LAND" a cry came from the deck of the CCSS St John. "Captain look- land"
The captain gave the order to let the soldiers go ashore to look around. They were greeted by a barrage of spears. The archers quickly pulled out arrows. They fired them. Then the archers fired again. The savages then ran out and attacked the soldiers. The savages killed 3 soldiers before the Cherry Ridgians could respond. Then the foot soldiers drew there swords. They swung them decpitating some, wounding others, and killing others as well by striking them in the heart. The cavalry then splashed threw the shallow water. They were finally ashore. They swung there weapons. They savages, there numbers gretly diminished, retreated. The archers fired their crossbows. A savagein the woods cried out in pain. A cavalryman quickly entered the woods and they returned with his head. He dropped in the sand. Infantryman entered the forest of palm trees. They returned with the remaining savages. A few were still left free but that was it. The savages were then bound with rope and thrown into the sand until the commander Sir William Mc Greeley could decide what to do with them. The wounded savages were killed. The dead CR soldiers buried but the dead savages left to rot.

The cavalryman rode off into the woods. They had torches. They found the savages village and killed the warriors that attacked them. They then set fire to the houses and captured the remaining savages. They marched them to the beach. The others were untied and then all of them were made to stand in a line. One tried to escape but was shot with an arrow in the back, and left to die. He squirmed. Then he was still. The savages gasped. The commander then walked and made them draw straws. The one with the longer straws wouls be executed. There were 253 savages. Only 100 would remain. The straws were drawn and then the condemned were told to stay but the remaining 100 were moved. Then a hail of arrows kille dall of the condemned. The prisoners were told to get to work. They did. One woman bolted but was caught and whipped and beaten as an example. That night the were branded with the mark CCS. The prisoners slpt. The next day they worked again.

OOC: Okay, I'm going to post some stuff, and you'll have to tell me if I'm taking too many liberties or anything. The Ralish Empire, by the way, is huge and ancient... I'm flexible about its location in space and time... I'm currently in a Napoleonic era region, but still playing The Ralish as a backwards state without gunpowder and the like, dominating Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Greece. Alternately, I play on a fictional continent named Aisa, which looks a little like Europe less Iberia and Scandinavia, plus the Middle East. We're really late bronze age to early iron age, though some outlying provinces are savage and primitive.
IC: The news of Eruah's invasion by a power unknown took some days to return to mainland Aisa, and a full week to fall upon the ears of King Ralish in far-off Azaria. The island wasn't very important- the local population offered limited trade, and hadn't proven especially worthy warriors when asked to fight as auxilliaries beside the Alshorian Guard, but that wasn't the point. The Eternal Alshorian Empire hadn't faced an external foe since the Rustican clansmen submitted to the combined armies of nine provinces, and it seemed well to put this threat away before it harmed trade in the central empire.
In Atlan, a force of some two score (forty) trireme-like warships assembled, and along with a few less impressive hulls, embarked four thousand soldiers of the Atlan Provincials, a total augmented by mercenaries from the surrounding provinces of the western empire.
They had a good two days sailing to the island they called Eruah, but within forty-some hours their sails would be outlined against the island's sunrise...

Govonor Mc Greeley saw warships against the horizon. He had heard that a foriegn power had called this place Eruah. Now it was St. Margarets Ise. Nothing would change that. The remaining prisoners were killed. No more natives. he ordered that the catapaults be brought forward. He would stop this invasion before it happened. He launched 10 huge rocks at the ships. They appeared to hit the ship but he wasnt sure. Then he had 5 more boulders put on the rocks. He soaked them in oil and then lit them. Then they were launched. They appeared to catch on to the ships but he couldnt tell. He had the islands small fleet of only 7 warships go out to meet them. He lit 2 of them on fire. The sailors jumped off. They were pickedup by the other warships. The 2 lit on fire crashed into 2 enemy ships. The 5 remianing ships retreated into the cove. They were safe for now.

As the Atlan vessels coasted towards Eruah, their crews were a little surprised to observe the defensive readiness of the enemy, who seemed -and nobody knew how- to have been forewarned of their approach, right down to exactly which part of the island would be involved. Perhaps it was just an unfortunate coincidence, the commanders supposed, as catapults splashed rocks into the sea not far from the sleek triremes leading the way.
Frantic activity saw the ships, still moving quickly along the coast when the attack began, manoeuvring rapidly to starboard. That was easy enough to predict given that land was in the way on the other side, but still, considering the likely range of the enemy weapons, the few ships that'd been in range of the first probing volley were out by the time the flaming second could be arranged.
The appearance of foreign sails was spotted soon enough as the morning sun illuminated them for the alerted lookouts to see, but there were still problems to be faced as the Atlan flotilla doubled back on itself, fast triremes dodging through lumbering transports requesitioned from merchants when news of invasion broke. Still, as difficult as it may have been for the Atlan to swing about all of their hulls in the slightly confined waters off shore, it proved little compared to the task of setting light two warships and directing them against a target on the move... had the Ralish ships been at anchor it would have been a different matter, but not today. In fact, a number of transports -on seeing the enemy vessels run for port- closed again with the burning hulls. They didn't seem to be dedicated fireships at all! Just ordinary boats set ablaze and hurridly abandoned, as witnessed by Atlan lookouts. An intrepid few provincials attempted to board the ships and seek plunder abandoned as men simply jumped over board- great jugs of water were cast at flames that seemed most critical, and a trireme closed and deployed a primitive crane, powered by men and simply pulleys, was used to dump further water, where normally it would have deployed oil.
It became clear -at the expense of serveral serious burns to provincial conscripts- that the enemy hulls could not be saved, and would soon sink, but still, a few trinkets were returned as minor spoils, and perhaps an insight into the outsiders' culture. A small holy cross was not considered more important than the few other pieces taken, and most who saw it theorised over what sort of tool it may be. The burning hulks sank shortly there after, and Cassir Ordenvis commanding the Ralish expedition sent five of his transports along with twenty-eight trireme along the coast to the north, away from the shore-bound catapults. The remaining twelve trireme moved to blockade the cove into which five hostile vessels had retreated- they would not be allowed to get a message out from the island.
A launch was sent into the cove, carrying a small assembly of diplomats, slaves, and warriors. The hope was to make contact with the strangers. Meanwhile, the larger force of triremes and transports would attempt to put soldiers ashore quite some way up the coast, and to deploy them before the soldiers seen back at the catapults could possibly catch-up.

Eh, okay. We'll just record the battle for Eruah as a minor historical event in which some strange outsiders picked a fight, made some baffling mistakes, and got themselves sacrificed to any number of deities observed in the western empire. Have fun, anyway.
