Austar Union to begin "Operation Freedom" in Bosnia and Herzegovina [SemiClosed]

Austar Union

He was a man of his word. Just a few days earlier, he had committed the nation to a global war in the name of the future. (OOC: See this thread for the speech (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=6811789))

President Edward Grove had been in meeting with his closest advisors, and they had decided on the opening front in what they had named, "Operation Freedom". Surprisingly, this front was on the very doorstep of the Austar Union, and to make an impact in the world, first they would have to make an impact in Europe.

As he prepared to make a speech, he took a sip of water. Stepping out onto the podium, he cleared his throat;

"People of the world,

Not too long ago, you would recall that I made a speech, saying that I was dedicating the nation to the cause of freedom. The freedom from fear, oppression, even death.

I am here today, to highlight the growing problem in the nearby nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this nation, racial hatred has spiralled into a massive war of unnessasary violence and bloodshed. Those who choose to fight each other, spark fear into the lives of men, women, and even children. In this nation, which by now ought to be established and modernised, entire families must move location time and time again, to only ensure the lives of each other.

This is all happening within just a thousand kilometres of where I stand today, in Anatoba City. I have a strong belief, that if we are to fight the global fight, we ought to fight at our doorsteps first. It would be hypocritical for us to aid Africa first, yet not our brothers.

This is why, I am committing a small contingent of forces to Bosnia and Herzegovina, into the nation which is literally in a state of civil war. No longer must people run for their lives from the greedy, power-hungry warlords. Genocide, fighting, murder is all a normal thing in that nation, and no longer must the world remain tolerant.

To the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are coming. We are coming for you, your children, your fathers, your mothers. We will not leave you, nor will we forget you. We will win in the opening front, and we will save you from the oppression, from the fear you have in daily life.

To the warlords of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are coming for you. Do not mistake the almighty force of the Austar Union military for just a tiny, weak force. We will overwhelm you, surpass you, and arrest you. Lay down your weapons, and save the lives of many. You will surely recieve a reward for saving the lives of thousands.

To the government in exile, we are coming to restore order in your nation. We are coming to set a new course for your nation, on a path which will benefit your people. Please, realise this is for the benefit of the people. We will restore a government once we have finished, so that your nation, will once again be great. But instead of racial violence, there will be tolerance of all people, black, white, grey, yellow. Bosnia and Herzegovina will be a great nation, in the blood of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ."

In the meantime, in other central areas of command, preparations were being made for soldiers to be shipped out to the Balkan region. This would be a successful war, and President Grove hoped that others would have a wish to join him.

OOC: This roleplay is semi-closed, just ask me before participating. I want it fairly realistic, so no millions of troops or anything. And before you even post, I am not recognising any claims to this nation, or any surrounding nations. So dont even bother trying to claim Bosnia and Herzegovina.

OOC: The Hadulan Government wishes to bring the Unspoken Truth Army humanitarian aid organization to protect the innocents in this conflict and bring food, drink, and medical aid to hose in need. We will be deploying 25,000 members, but we can do no more, as 25,000 must remain at home (due to deployment procedure), 25,000 are working with the Grenvali military, 25,000 are stationed in Yupon, and the last 25,000 are currently working in Demonic Terrorists.

Private Henry Carson was reading his mail, when he noticed one letter in particular. Ripping it open in excitement, he had a general idea of its content. Laughing in happiness, he ran and gave his best mate a hug with a pat on the back, "Looks like we're goin together Steve!"

Steve smiled, "I was hoping I would get selected for the opening campaign, but I never really expected it. Nor did I expect for us to go together. This is good news..."

Soldiers in the Austar Union were quiet patriotic. At the same time, they had grown a fondness for the battlefield, and were eager to apply to go. When they had heard the news of the operation-to-be in Bosnia and Herzegovina, many had rushed to apply. So many, that hopes to actually be selected werent too high.

Nevertheless, the hopeful's applied to go, and many dreams were made, many were shattered. Private Steve and Private Henry Carson were brothers. Well, not bilogically, but as they had grown together through training, they adopted each other, and now they were the best of mates. Going together to foriegn soil would be a pleasure for both, as it was the first they had been to.

Quickly, they made preparations to leave, and with many others, they reported to command to confirm their participation in the war. Some 225 000 soldiers would be reporting for duty, and would serve their nation in the Balkans.

OOC: Heh, we are in the middle of the Pacific, it might take a while to reach Bosnia.

General John Doolittle (http://www.iownjoo.com/freeimghost/VeniceDamon/un50-053.gif) didn't like the sea. The waves, tossing and turning the ship, always bothered him. In the steel behemoth that was the HI Freedom, flagship of the UTA Naval division, he was forced to stay and plan the deplyment into Bosnia as the fleet crossed the Pacific, heading westward towards the Persian Gulf. Long weeks were to come.

He coughed and looked over the map. The HI Freedom (OOC: HI is the USS of the Hadulan navy, it means Hadulan Issue) was the only aircraft carrier the small UTA navy had, but it was enough to carry enough transport planes and helicopters to disperse the UTA stationed on the HI Freedom, HI Peacemaker, HI Lawbringer, and the HI Godsend had onboard. He smiled. It may just work.

He had received word that the Austar Union would be emplyoign the military brunt, so the UTA of the Hadulan governmetn had the main job of clean-up. They would focus on bringing humanitarian aid to those in need as the AU army swept Bosnia and Herzegovnia. All UTA members were volunteers and well trained in medical procedures, basic arms training, technology, and vehicle operation. They could probally stave off the left over resistence and insurrection groups with little help from the Austar Union army.

"Ensign, please wire in the Austar Union General in cahrge of the peacekeeping operation. We need to compare notes, as it would seem."

Roycelandia would be most interested in assisting with the Liberation of Bosnia, with the deployment of the Imperial Guard and the Imperial Air Force to the region (in realistic numbers, obviously).

OOC: I've been having a lot of trouble finding a decent RP lately... this one looks like a good canditate- something with some sensibility to it, along with the oppurtunity for some combat too...

"As you can see, President. They plan to invade Bosnia-Herzegovina" The aide said, whilst gesturing to the large, sattelite screen in front of him.

"But we have assests in Bosnia! We can't let them invade! It would take a sizeable chunk of profits away!" The President responded.

"But the deal could still continue. If they win the war"

"You know the deal we signed with them James. We supply them with arms and war tanks and they pay us a sizeable sum of money. No questions asked."

"Perhaps if we send a submarine.... Anyway James, we can still supply them with arms, we just have to give the Austarian forces a little warning..."

"I'll notify the SS Dorlas, they are in the immediate area"

"Good man. Do it now"

"Yes sir" The aide gave a curt nod and left the room.

Somewhere near the Aegean sea....

The SS Dorlas dived, it's sleek sinister hull glinting off the dying rays of the sun. It was heading to the Balkans.....

Private Steve Robertson, and Private Henry Carson both sat together, in a small team on one of the BlackHawk helicoptors. Being injected into a nation in a state of almost total civil war wouldnt be too difficult, but just in case, they were being escorted with the usual Apache presense. This would be a relitavely smaller mission, as it would commence the injection of first special forces teams into the Balkan nation.

As they neared their target destination, the helicoptors began to take up defensive positions, preparing to make the drop. Nearing a small clearing in the forest, the pilots gently hovered the helicoptors down, to a safe height. In compliance with training standards, both pilots were required to have their hands on the controls, in case of nearby snipers.

The choppers lowered, and the coast seemed clear. With the signal of a hand, the team of men jumped down from the chopper, and landed on the Bosnian soil with a clud. Rolling across through the grass, the choppers began to take off, and their sounds faded into the distance as the teams began to take positions in nearby vegetation.

In total, a small team of 100 troops had been dropped successfully into the area, and were now compeltly silent, looking for signs that anyone had noticed. As they watched and listened carefully, motion could be seen near the entrance of the clearing. Raising their rifles, they remained in cover as they watched through their scopes the new presense. It was only a civillian. A farmer who had heard the noise, but apparently didnt know what it was.

As the farmer dissapeared back into the jungle, the teams began to make contact with one another. There were five squads in the one platoon. Each squad had twenty members, making a total of one hundred men in the platoon which had been dropped.

Pulling out a map, Private Henry Carson studied it carefully, looking to see his mission map. The goal of this operation was to capture a small, disused airfield nearby. Unfortunately, intelligence showed a minor rebel presense there. Rebel forces had been using the field to distribute arms through-out the area, and although it was minor, with some small adjustments, it could become one of the main centers of operation.

With a few quick calculations, Private Carson figured it would take a few hours walking to reach the destination. They had a few contacts in the area, so if anything went wrong, they had several places where they could go for safety.

Informing the Captain of the situation, the captain gave his orders over the radio frequency, in standard military code. If translated, the orders would read, "Make Bearings at 148 degree, pace 3km, time eta, 3 hours, 45 minutes."

Sorry!

I intend to start out as a "benefactor" of the current Bosnia-Herzegovinan government. I might lend military aid to Bosnia later in the rp......

OOC: Nah thats cool. I would prefer that not be the case though. Whilst im not against any opposition, the Bosnian government and its 'allies' generally have a passive role, most of it being the Coalition forces vs Any Warlord faction, considering this isnt an invasion, but actually a peacekeeping force. Any government that trys to fight a peacekeeping force thats assisting them, would be simply stupid and unrealistic, though, saying that Sudanese government apparently wants just that, well did. Anyhow, i really dont want the Bosnian government or allies involved. But thanks for your interest anyway :)

The small contingent of Austarian Forces walked carefully through the forest, being careful to make as much silence as possible. A twig snapped, and the entire contingent paused, ready for combat. Nothing happened, but the wind blowing through the trees around them. Standing competley still and silent for several moments, a hand signal was given, and the men continued on their way.

On the map, Private Robertson identified a small road up ahead. Notifying the commander of the operation, he gave orders to approach the road with maximum caution. If they were to just run out in the open, they would make easy target for any nearby gunships or battalions.

Carefully, the approached the end of the treeline, and just where it was about to end, they paused, keeping low and hidden amongst the vegetation. Just as they were about to creep forward, Robertson raised his hand, and everyone paused, completley still in response.

There was nothing, and the soldiers wondered why they were pausing. Then to answer their question, the sound of an engine could be heard in the far distance, coming closer by the second. A pickup appeared at the bend only a few hundred metres away, and at first, the soldiers thought they had encountered only another group of civillians.

The pickup slowed, and pulled on the side of the road, only twenty metres from the site where Robertson was standing. In the bushes, he watched as a group of five soldiers clambered out of the back, and two jumped out the front. By their uniform, they were identified as Serbian rebels. This area was controlled by the Serbs, so this was not a surpirse.

Lighting a cigarette, the man who seemed to be in command stood looking out at the landscape. He wandered directly toward Robertson, and stopped just a few metres away, unknowing of the Austarian presense just metres away. With a quick, yet discreet hand-signal, Robertson signalled to a nearby soldier to hold back. They had orders to engage only if they were fired upon, and so far, they had heard no shots.

Cigarette smoke filled Robertson's nostrils, and he tried to sniffle a sneeze. Holding it in, he went blue in the face, before finally, the Serbian man turned back, and walked toward the pickup. Saying something in Serbian, the other soldiers climbed back into the truck and drove off, back in the direction they came from.

Then Robertson breathed...

Night was beginning to fall by the time the small contingent had arrived at their destination. As they reached an area where they could have a good view of the airfield, they noted that vegetation was reasonably scarce down the bottom of the hill, where the airfield was.

There was obviously a small presense there, mostly of Serbian rebel forces. A few tanks, a contingent of troops not unlike the Austarian contingent which watched from a few hundred metres away... Nothing more than the Austarians couldnt handle.

Nevertheless, the assault would be best performed at night, which would be in a few hours anyway. In the meantime, the Austarians made camp, being careful to remain as invisible as possible to the military presense below.

Imperial High Command had debated for some time on how to best infiltrate the area.

Finally, it was decided on an amphibious landing in the town of Dubrovnik, coupled with a paratroop incursion as well.

The Imperial Guard swarmed ashore under cover of darkness and overpowered the Port Authority guards with only minor resistance, whilst the Parartroops, dropped via a C-47, managed to seize the city's TV transmitter without a shot being fired.

However, their attempts at securing the airport were not as successfull... 25 Imperial Guardsmen were paradropped in, and were soon involved in a nasty firefight with local Militia.

The capture of the harbour and TV station would be key factors, as another 500 soldiers were bought in via ship with the news the port was securted, bringing the total number of Imperial Guard in the city to approxmately 720, although the airport was still contested and shooting between both sides was heavy...

Master-Chief John Doolittle spits at the radio, slamming his fists on the table.

"Damn it all to hell!"

He just received the word that they had to turn back to combat the native terrorrists who took over Hadula. He put the Austarian general on the line.

"This is an official declaration of our retreat. We are in civil war in our homeland, and thus, while we would like to aid you Bosnia, we must bring back Hadula to the people."

OOC: Just an official declaration, since it was already implied in the other thread.
