It has been a tough summer for Lacomb. Terrorists, U.N. problems, and now this. Over 2000 acres of lush green forests are burning, the cause as of yet unknown. The fire was reported on Saturday and since the Lacomb Forest Service along with some 6 private wildland firefighting companies have been engaged head on with this tragedy. The section of land burning is home to nearly 5% of Lacombs Golden bear Population. The Lacomb Militia may be called in to assist in evacuations of the nearby city; Carcassonetown. The Sr. Fire Official told CNN/L that she could not speculate on when the fire would be contained. This fire is very bad and is endangering many homes and a city at that. The current wheather situation doesnt help either with temp.s in the 100's for the next two weeks. No Firefighter has been killed and only a dozen have received minor injuries. If not contained soon the fire could become alot like the USA Yellowstone Fire. The president of Lacomb "Maffret" is scheduling a visit to one of the Base camps early this week. Some Eco-companies are already in staging for a very difficult clean-up and re-forestation plan. This is the first Fire of this caliber in Lacomb history.

CNN/L....

After a heroic effort from various Wildland Firefighters from around Lacomb, it has ended. According to Sr. Wildland Manager Bitalle all of the fire has been contained and is undercontrol. The destruction from the fire has put a serious strain on the local economy of Catlow Valley [where the fire took place]. With a large death toll and damage estimated in the millions this will take time for Lacomb to recover. Emergency relief has come from the Government. People have been housed and fed, and insurance companies are being urged to settle soon. Of course this will most likely effect everyones tax rate.

Did you ever think of burning off the fuel infront of the fire with a drip torch? Or digging trenches thus removing the fuel and directing the fire where you wish?

Sr. Wildland Manager Bitalle....Yes we applied current firefighting techniques to this attack. To include digging huge fire lines with dozers as well as controled burns to remove as much of the feul as possible. Due to the climate of the Catlow Valley, the high winds and scorching heats as well as the rapid pressure movements we had a hard time. We also had a series of logistical problems ranging from lack of air support to low man power. But, we do thank you for your input, we may call on you next time we have a fire this size.
