Agrigentian Army Unit Overview

Summary:
The Agrigentian Army currently maintains a high number of Active Duty Divisions. Compulsory Military Service provides for very large numbers, however the majority of Reserve Units are organized only by Brigade, to be formed into divisional commands as needed, and most of them will never see combat. (OOC: As of August 16, 2004, to be updated periodically)

All divisions, regardless of type, are comprised of 12,000 Professional Soldiers and necessary equipment. Divisions are devoid of Logistics Support in the listings below because DIVLOG, DIVENG and DIVART are employed on the Operational Level and are under their own heading.

Divisions are often combined into larger tactical elements called Operational Maneuver Groups. They are the Agrigentian equivalent of Corps. At this level, Logistics and Engineering are allocated for both tactical and strategic usage. Also for the purposes of this listing, APC numbers are not shown.

The Divisional Breakdown is as follows:

12,000 soldiers
___________________
Squad = 10 Soldiers
Platoon = 2 Squads (20 Soldiers)
Company = 10 Platoons (200 Soldiers)
Battalion = 5 Companies (1,000 Soldiers)
Brigade = 3 Battalions (3,000 Soldiers)
Division = 4 Brigades (12,000 Soldiers)

Armored Divisions

The armored division has a division base of command and control, and combat service support capabilities, and several maneuver battalions. Heavy divisions have large amounts of mobile, armor-protected firepower. Because of mobility, survivability, and firepower, armored divisions are normally employed where battles are fought over wide areas against a threat with similar capabilities. During offensive operations, heavy divisions move rapidly, concentrate overwhelming combat power against the threat, break through the threat's defenses and then strike deep to destroy the threat's field artillery. The heavy divisions operate best in open terrain where they can move quickly and can use their long-range direct fire weapons to their best advantage. The heavy divisions are not designed to operate in jungles, dense forests or mountains, infantry is most often used in these areas) large cities towns and built-up areas restrict operations of the heavy divisions; although these divisions will have to operate in built-up areas from time to time.

An Armored Division's 4 brigades are broken down as follows:

Motorized Infantry Divisions

The Motorized Infantry Division was organized to meet the security demands of the dynamic and potentially volatile international environment, and to be highly flexible and strategically responsive across a broad spectrum of conflict. It is organized, equipped, and trained for combat in desert and arid mountainous areas and it retains the utility to respond to appropriate missions or to provide increased mobility and firepower in a low-intensity conflict.

The Motorized Infantry Division is a lethal, flexible, and versatile fighting force capable of responding quickly to crisis situations. The division is organized for responsive deployment, immediate combat operations upon arrival in any conflict environment, and quick retrieval from the operational area after the mission is completed. To meet a worst-case armored threat, the division is organized around combined arms battalions equipped with a substantial number of long-range anti-armor weapons. These weapons can be maneuvered quickly about the integrated battlefield using organic air and ground mobility.

The division maintains the capability to see far enough into the battlefield to execute operations and influence the air-land battle. It achieves maximum combat effectiveness including survivability, through force mobility system agility, distribution of command and control, and force-oriented tactics emphasizing indirect approaches and stand-off attacks to ensure survivability, the division habitually operates widely dispersed and relies on deception to mask its location and intentions. Such dispersion and the nature of the battle maneuver require that motorized units be organized on a combined arms basis.

The division can be deployed in conjunction with heavy divisions and may be employed in an economy of force role thereby freeing heavy units to conduct other missions.

The division is capable of operating on a nuclear or chemical battlefield. It has essential CSS capabilities to operate for up to 72 hours except for having water in arid environment and Class V (artillery) in high-intensity conflicts.

Airborne Divisions

The Airborne Division is organized to be rapidly deployed anywhere in the world to: secure critical installations or facilities; reinforce Agrigentian and allied forces; and conduct a show of force. This division can conduct a parachute assault in the threat's rear to secure terrain or to interdict routes of resupply or threat withdrawal. It can conduct air assault operations as well as other missions normally assigned to infantry divisions

Airborne operations are most often joint operations with the Agrigentian Air Force, which provides the airlift, close air support, and aerial resupply for the airborne forces. Normally, units participating in an airborne operation are assigned to a joint task force. Airborne operations may be supported by naval air and naval gunfire if the operational area is within range.

Airborne operations are generally executed in two phases: assault and defense. In the assault phase, Air Force aircraft transport division units to the operational area to conduct a parachute assault. Before and during the assault, supporting fire is delivered by close air support, naval gunfire, or both. After the parachute assault, units assemble and seize assault objectives. Artillery begins providing fire support as soon as possible after landing. Close air support continues with priority to armor and forces beyond artillery range. Additional units are airlanded as landing zones are secured. The defense phase begins when assault objectives are seized. An all-ground defense is organized when the force is in threat-occupied territory. The division masses and then conducts operations in the same manner as the infantry division. Airborne operations usually end on linkup or extraction of the division.

Engineering, Artillery and Logistical Support

Engineering: The Engineer mission is to execute mobility, survivability, sustainment engineering and topographic battlefield functions in support of the combined arms team. On order, they must also be able to fight as infantry.

Divisional Engineering Battalions or DIVENGs, are deployed by the Command and Control structure of the Operational Maneuver Group, while a portion of every HQ Company is devoted to this role, with the necessary equipment to fulfill most primary functions.

Artillery: Every single Agrigentian Army Heavy Division (with Motorized and Airborne being considered Light Divisions) has an accompanying DIVART, or Divisional Artillery..

DIVARTs are just under brigade-size with a Headquarters company and three artillery battalions.

Logistical Support: Main Support Battalions provide direct support (DS) maintenance and supply, transportation and combat health support (CHS) to divisional units operating in the Division Rear Area (DRA). The MSB also provides field services, when properly augmented. MSB provides reinforcing direct support to the Forward Support Battalions (FSB) and the Aviation Support Battalion (ASB).

These Battalions each accompany a Division, but are considered outside of Divisional Control, and under the jurisdiction of the Operational Maneuver Group leader (CINC-OMG).

Agrigentian Marine Corps Unit Overview

Summary:
The Agrigentian Marine Corps currently maintains a high number of Active Duty Divisions. Compulsory Military Service provides for very large numbers, however the majority of Reserve Units are organized only by Brigade, to be formed into divisional commands as needed and the vast majority of them will never see action. (OOC: As of August 16, 2004, to be updated periodically)

All Marine divisions, regardless of type, are comprised of 15,000 Professional Soldiers and necessary equipment. Unlike the Army DIVART, DIVENG and DIVLOG are indeed under Divisional Control.

Divisions are often combined into larger tactical elements called Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEF). They are the Corps equivalent of Operational Maneuver Groups (OMG). For the purposes of this listing, APC numbers are not shown.

Marine Corps units are generally better trained, particularly because there are fewer of them, and also due to the greater tactical complexity and lower survivability that their combat situations provide.

The Divisional Breakdown is as follows:

15,000 soldiers
___________________
Squad = 10 Soldiers
Platoon = 2 Squads (20 Soldiers)
Company = 10 Platoons (200 Soldiers)
Battalion = 5 Companies (1,000 Soldiers)
Brigade = 3 Battalions (3,000 Soldiers)
Division = 5 Brigades (15,000 Soldiers)

Armored Divisions

Marine Corps Armored Divisions are essentially the same as their Army counterparts, except that they are larger, and have an additional Support Brigade. Marine Armored Divisions are also characterized as Heavy, although they are capable of rapid deployment.

I'm trying to figure out my military's ground component, and can you guys help me out? I'm suppsoed to be Australia (and some outlying islands) with a 20 million population, so my military is considerably more limited than before.

Each brigade (bde) contains 5000 soldiers, each battalion contains 1000 soldiers, and sometimes, regiments (a unit independent of brigades and battalions) contain 2500 soldiers. Armored brigades contain about a hundred forty-four tanks, armor companies (not battalions) contain a twelve tanks each. Mechanized Infantry bdes contain about a hundred armored vehicles (tanks, APCs, IFVs). Special forces bdes contain about 3,000 men, split into battalions of six hundred each

Divisions are made of two brigades, and reinforced divisions are made of three.

Aviation detachments consist of helicopters, attack helicopters, and sometimes attack planes (Su25 Frogfoots). About 50 assorted craft in a detachment.
