There has been a public outcry today in the Roycelandian Colony of North Terristan after a 16 year old girl was jailed for 14 days on a charge of "Dressing in a provocative manner without intent to perform sexual acts".

The 16 year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was apparently wearing knee-high boots, fishnet stockings, a miniskirt, and low cut top when she approached undercover police officers. The girl flirted with the police officers and made "some suggestive comments", according to the arresting officers, before becoming upset when the officer refused to buy her clothes that she liked from a nearby fashion store. The officers identified themselves as Police Officers and warned her that dressing like a slut was illegal unless she was prepared to have sex with men that she hit on for "goods, services, or favours". She refused and was arrested, charged, and given access to her parents and a lawyer.

Civil Rights groups have criticised the Desert colony's Laws on the subject, calling them "Sexist", "outdated", and "discriminatory".

The Honourable Justice Mustafa Al-Salah responded to the critics in his usual blunt but honest style: "It's very simple. Don't dress like a slut if you're not prepared to put out."

North Terristan's Governor-General has promised to intervene on this matter, as the North Terristanian Law is unconstitutional by Roycelandian legislation. It is likely that the girl's sentence will be overturned, her conviction quashed, and the North Terristanian law annulled.

North Terristanian Citizens are upset at the Imperial Government's interference in "A purely domestic matter", but His Majesty himself made a brief statement at a press conference earlier, pointing out that the Imperial Constitution "regards EVERYONE, Male or Female, as being equal, with the same rights and responsibilities. And besides, I think I speak for most men when I say we rather enjoy looking at slutty women- and if they choose to share their favours with us, so much the better. But we certainly aren't going to force them- that's just wrong, uncivilised, unconstitutional, and just not the done thing in Roycelandia."

Demonstrations so far have been peaceful, but the Colonial Guard are maintaining a discreet presence should they turn ugly or violent...

Official Statement from the Island of Rose:

Littler girls shouldn't even be dressing up like sluts, that should be left to the professionals, aka the prostitute. Tsk, they dress up like whores without especting to give head...

I say let them do what they want. If you have hot young women who like to dress in slutty and/or skimpy clothes, send them my way. I'll take care of them.

In my mind, people can dress how they want. This law seems to have been implemented by the religious right.

Hmm. However, the whole legal prostitution, and arresting those that seem like prostitutes but aren't, lead me to believe that this was set forward by Hedonists. So... the Hedonistic Religious Right?

This is an example of the conflict between Religion and Libertarianism that North Terristan is experiencing as they are integrated into the Roycelandian Empire.

That, and anyone who dresses like a slut should be prepared to accept the consequences...

Popular culture in the UK has begun to imply that prostitution is now legal in the Roycelandian empire, since a girl was arrested for not having sex for money. It appears to many in the UK that, in Roycelandia, one must now 'put-out' in return for any capital expenditure by another party.

Widespread concern has been incited by the idea that, "she was asking for it" might become a viable defence for various sexual crimes in the apparently backwards empire. Pressure has mounted for the production of an information sheet describing specifically to visitors from the Roycelandian empire what sort of behaviour is and is not likely to incite, "a good kicking" when in the United Kingdom.

Prostitution has ALWAYS been legal in the Roycelandian Empire...

Fortunately for overseas visitors, the Roycelandian Foreign Affairs Ministry issues a series of helpful pamphlets outlining some of the Roycelandian Laws and Social Customs, including the ever popular "Anti-Stupidity Laws explained", "Don't dress like a slut unless you put out", and "Blackjack & Hookers: A Guide to Entertainment in Roycelandia".

Other titles are available from most airports, travel agents, police stations, and anywhere else Tourists can be found...

Seems like a rather stupid decision, you might as well arrest people who wear camo pattern clothes who aren't in the military, those who wear trucker hats who aren't really truckers or those that wear yellow raincoats who aren't fishermen.

No-one said the laws made any sense... that's part of the problem.

Roycelandia's laws are a strange bunch- they *SEEM* over the top until you see them in action, and people realise that they actually work.

It is legal to dress as sluttily as you like- but it is illegal to flirt with guys and get them hot and bothered, or try and get lifts in cars etc out of them, without putting out. The same applies in reverse- guys must sleep with women they flirt with, call after one night stands if they say they will, and so on. It all works out rather well, oddly enough...
