I'm not sure if anyone has done something like this before but here it goes. Seeing that the real world is in a bit of an oil crisis, i wanted to create a nationstates rp based on an oil crisis. There are three reasons: 1) To remind the NS community that resources aren't unlimited 2) To remind the NS community that economic action can hurt just as much as military action and 3) To possibly see how the real word oil troubles will end. Anyway, here's the setting, you'll notice it's a bit similar to the real world's situation.

Experts project that the world oil supply will run out within the next 25 years. Oil prices are nearing $3 a gallon and long lines at gas stations worldwide are forming. Some have blamed terrorists, others have blamed the oil producing countries for not creating enough supply and the rest blame everyone for too much demand. Tensions are increasing between the countries. Will there be sanctions, war or will the world be able to settle the growing crisis?

Some people need to volunteer to be the oil consumers and a few people need to be the oil producers. If possible, some one could play the terrorist part. Hopefully this RP will be fun. Anyway I guess i'll be in the consumer group.

"I am producing oil as fast as I can, but I am facing many problems each day. My wells are running dry, this is slowing production substantually. I must also supply oil to my own country, before I can even consider export. As my production slows and slows then that is less and less I will be able to export to foreighn countries each year. What am I to do eviromental laws also prevent me attempting to find oil elswhere, so I am constricted to the wells I have know. Terrorists attack my tankers and trucks when I try to ship it. Have you seen what those terrorists do to people, I have. One of my best friends was captured while he was driving one of my trucks. For days I prayed he was safe, until one morning when I walked into my office and my best friends mutilated body sat in my leather chair. Blood everywhere, I have not set foot in that office since...." He takes a moment to pause, the continues on, "Prices will continue to rise for other countries until my problems are dealt with. Why must you hound me? there are other companies more than capable of producing oil. My workers are already worked to the bone, I fear they will riot. Now I must attend to matters. Take your crisises and your news reports somewhere else and tell it someone who isnt already more than aware." Ezekial Moses then scurried off the stage and back into his largest oil refinery, slamming the door behind him. The sound of the large bolt locking the door into place was loud and clear.

Soichiro Hasegawa, economic strategist says the following:

"We believe the nation of The God Falltothzu is sincere in their efforts controlling the crisis. However one nation cannot solve the problem. The entire oil exporting union must produce at full capacity. This will increase supply on the world markets, effectively lowering the price of crude oil. However, some nations refuse to pump at full capacity because of the profits they are reaping. This greed is only hurting the rest of the world."

Michael Jordas was driving on the highway, when suddenly the fuel warning of his car blinked.
"Damn", he thought, "better get that off, its gonna be a long drive."
As a gas station appeared in the horizon few kilometers later, he pulled off. As he routinely eyed the large digital board displaying the price of fuel, he blinked, and looked it again.
Michael could not believe his eyes.
The price of fuel was atleast twice it had been yesterday! "Surely, its a mistake. The board is malfuctioning, of something" he thought as he walked to the adminstrator.
"No mistake", the admin said, after Michael has explained his problem. "Haven't you heard the news? There is a major oil crisis coming."
Michael paid the price and continued along. He thought it was a random notch. Nothing permanent.

The following day Michael was on the road again. As he drove past another gas station, he started at the board and almost lost the control of his car due to the shock. The price had yet again increased by almost half! Michael felt a chill go down his spine. What was going on? He toggled off the CD player playing classical 70's rock, and tuned on the radio.
"Special raport from The God Falltothzu: Two days ago, Ezekiel Moses, the CEO of the biggest oil company in GF, announced that the oil pumping has been less and less productive lately. Other nations have also declared an oil crisis, leading to a radical raise of the price of fuel, also here in Keimonia...."

Michael could not comprehend the rest. His thoughts were already racing.

OOC: I'm wondering, if I could RP as a rouge terrorist faction and pose a threat to some completely random oil drilling facilities/shipments/buying conferences/etc.? I just wanted to ask before attempting to post. So maybe it would run smoother than alot of other terrorist attacks do.

This HENN reporting on the oil crisis here. Prices for oil has gone up to 10 drahmas (1 drahma = $1.5820) a litre. The government knows that the NIK Oil Company isen't producing at full capacity and haves extra oil barrels in there warehouses. The government is pressuring NIKO to lower there prices and start producing at full capacity but the president of NIKO refuses to do so. We will report more updates as we get more information.

Two men stand at the stern of the large tanker. Both men appearing to be of Israeli or Palestinian origin, but this wasn't too terribly uncommon, considering many of FC's prisoners were allowed to be under supervision and work for companies. The tanker belonged to Confederate Oil Inc., the countries largest oil exporting and drilling company. They had been the target of many Zionist and Muslim terrorist threats, but each were investigated and found to pose no threat. The two men both turned, speaking in a Middle Eastern language, probably Israeli. Each men wore about the same clothing, yet unlike the other prisoners, a number wasn't tattooed on the backs of their necks. This caught the attention of a gaurd close by. As he approached the two, they turned, tearing open their denim toned prison attire, before shouting,"God is great!"
The two released their clenched fists... Altogether, 130 lbs. of explosive went off. In the main C4 charge, thermite had been mixed with the magnesium igniter to allow further damage. The flames rose high into the air as the second mast of the ship shook, the nuts buckling as it toppled over onto the bridge creating a fissure to the oil storage bays. The thermite quickly ate through the steel hull, burning its way into the oil tanks, before igniting the oil. A sudden eruption shook the sea for miles away as the great tanker split into seperate pieces. The two main pieces soon erupted into even smaller chunks...

FNN Special Report:
As of 6:30 this evening, an oil tanker en route to Herbert was a targert for a terrorist attack. The group known as Lehi, a Zionist terrorist organisation has claimed responisbility for the attack. As of now, no survivors are expected for ship FC-884, but FNN will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

The president's tone was easy, but Michael could sense something beneath. Concern.
"You must have some ideas", the president carried on, as Michael made no response. "Dig up some historical stuff. See what did when the last crisis occured"
Michael regained his voice.
"Sir, I haven't checked that yet, but I can already tell you that I wont find anything."
"Why so?"
"The scale of this crisis...its like nothing I have seen before."
Michael could have sworn something had moved in the president's calm expression. He carried on.
"It's even possible that...."
"What is possible? Say it."
President Zen's voice was now cold.
"It's even possible that this is the final crisis", Michael exhaled quickly.
"The final crisis - you don't mean-." Zen's voice broke.
"Yes. The usage of fossilic fuels has increased during the last decade. They wont last forever."
"You mean the world is running out of oil - completely?"
Michael took a deep breath.
"Yes Mr. President, that is what I mean."
President Zen said nothing. He had nothing to say.

With the abruptly ended speach, the RSHA representative steps away from the podium as flashes from journalist cameras take his photo hundreds of times as he is lead off stage.

This HENN reporting again on the oil crisis. It looks like the government has temporary banned the usage of cars. Also NIKO will be buying oil barrels for low prices from Middle East countrys and will be selling them expensive oil. As we speak 1 cargo ship filled with oil is leaving Greece and heading for the Middle East countries.

CEO Alton put down the phone. I should give that guy a raise,he thought to himself.That guy just saved the company. There was a knock on the door. "Come in," he said.

"The price of oil is skyrocketing. The Empire of Japanese Antarctica is doing everything it can to slow down the increase. We've pressured our oil companies to start more off shore drilling. We're also enforcing a low mileage vehicle ban, where all vehicles with a mpg of less than 20 will not be allowed to refuel. If the situation worsens, we will begin a refueling quota. Due to the inability of other nations to pump oil and/or the refusal to pump more, we have no choice but to lower demand. We ask that the rest of the world follow suit by promoting fuel efficiency."

We interupt this program for a special anouncement.
At 2:00 in the morning a a small terrorist faction attacked a Boblands army base on pienaf island. Several CV 90's were damaged and 16 Boblands Troops Killed because of lack of fuel. General Racconioff speaks "we could have taken them out without a sweat but our fuel had completely dried out. They were armed with several Swedish PSG-90's and five others were armed with mp5's." The Boblands Minister of Trade said that that and several other bases were awaiting fuel ships to resupply them. Later this morning the PM told the media that a new law had been passed on emergency conditions. "It will now be illeagal to use oil if you don't have a permit." says Prime Minister John Rednock, "Also we now have decided to build several solar power stations to power the new generation of cars." The Prime Minister walked into his car and waved his oil permit around for the people to see.

The government of Naxivan is prepared to increase its oil production. However, we are still in the process of developing new pipelines to increase oil exports. Our government is still debating whether to sell off the national oil industry to private companies in order to cope with increased demand.

Within 3 months the Lightning Star was producing 300% more oil, and pricing it 200% higher, than before the oil crisis in the rest of the world. The Lightning Stars economy grew immensly. Of course, at this rate, the countries oil supplies would run out in 30-40 years, but TLS was 20 years ahead of most other countries in developing, and using, new types of fuels. But the only way they could afford to develop them was through selling their oil. As the country grew richer, so did the Oil Companies. The company that started this act, Storm Oil Inc., had merged with Serpentis Corporation. Numerous oil Companies were eleminated, leaving only three. Serpentis Corporation controlled the Island of Stormridges oil, Outer Ring Excavations(or ORE) controlled the oil on the many Island around the nation and the Island of Thunderbrook, and Mordus Legion Controlled the Island of the East Washibars oil. There was so much money being made in the oil buisiness, that soon these three corporations controlled the government. Each corporation seemed to welcome the competition, but secretly they were planting spies in their Headquaters, raising secret armies, and sabotaging their oil wells. It seemed to be only a matter of time before war would break out.

There was an air to the congress room that hadnt been there before. Today they were going to vote on who would rule the country, Serpentis, ORE, or Mordu corporations. It was very tense. Every corporation had bought out as many congressmen as they could, and they were going to see who had bought the most right now. After fierce debate it was time to vote. 72 in favor of Mordu, 34 in favor of Serpentis, and 14 in favor of ORE. As the news spread throughout the country, Anarchy reigned. Riots filled the streets, and in many cases one riot group would fight with another. The corporations deployed their massive mercenary armies. Sttrocities were soon to be commited, but not yet.

The Oil coming ou of the lightning star has gone down from 300% more than before the Oil Crisis, to 225%. That was still alot though. The price of a barrel rose to $70, but that was stilla lot cheaper than from other countries, whose oil costs well over $100. Of course, the amount of oil will definetly change depending on what happens during the "Oil War".

OOC: Would the above be godmodding? I don't share a border with communist rule, but undoubtly Communist Rule would see people from neighboring countries cross the border to refuel due to cheaper prices (Ex. US citizens going into Canada for cheaper medication). Once again, if Communist Rule wishes to ignore it, then i don't see why he can't.

OOC: Actually, since I am speaking crude oil, the price is very reasonable. Almost on the higher end of the median. U.S. oil companies drive it up in the 40s, mind you.

IC: The USSCR bathes in the wealth from the unexpected exodus of vehicles. Traffic is horrible, but the citizens of the USSCR already use high-speed electromagnetic monorails anyways.

OOC: Remember, if it works in real life, it works in this RP. I'm actually more interested in what happens after oil is no longer the useful and what happens to oil producer's political power. I kinda made a theory on what will happen, but i'm not going to mention it in hopes that my thesis won't bias the actions of the roleplayers.

Communist Rule has lowered their price of oil to $30. By doing so, demand for oil has shot up, raising the universal price to $79.23/gallon. Strategists say worse has yet to come, as YukosMOil supplies could run out, lowering supply and raising the price of oil worldwide. They blame communist and socialist governments for some of the recent price spikes.

OOC: He he he, this is getting interesting. My country, while still somewhat dependent on oil, uses around 15% the amount of oil the U.S. uses, even though our Economy is nearly as large. We use other sources of power as well, although we still need Oil for Plastics and such.

"Sir, the average price of oil has risen to nearly $80." the second in-command of the companies military branch informed CEO Sarpati. He was a bald, caucasian man. He seemed to be in his Early thirties-late twenties. His eyes were a bright blue. "Hmmmm, it seems that we need to drive the price up a little higher. Send the third infantry regiment. Have them deal with some of Mordus Oil-wells. That will send the barrel up at least $2."
"Understood." said the general. He saluted, and then left the room.
The CEO swiveled his chair around so that he was infront of the windows, which were now shaded. "Computer," he said," Open windows, please."
"Yes sir." Came the female voice of the computers' reply. The CEO looked over the wastelands that surrounded the building, and soon he saw his soldiers drive into the distance.

12% of Mordus Legions oil wells were destroyed in the attack. This was because the particular fields that were under attack we loosely guarded, and once the main army did arrive, the Attacker were well dug in. The Legions soldiers had to bombard the area relentlessly, causing more damage to the oil wells than the enemy.

With the dramatic rise in world oil prices, the Kanuckistani megacorp Uniphase Armouries Interversal has, without offical announcment, begun exporting refined oils and petrochemicals at prices that equate to $60 USD per barrel of crude, with volumes toping 75 million barrels per day, belived to be from stockpile.

Details are extreamly sketchy as to the source, and leave experts baffeled; while internal details have always been hard to ascertain in regaurds to Kanuckistan, the nation is not known to posess any signifigant in ground reserves of fossil fuels.

Some experts postulate that the company is simply taking advantage of high prices on the world market to sell off a portion of reserves intended for domestic consumption in the event of war or oil crisis; others counter this with sketcky data and claims that Kanuckistan hasn't imported signifigant amounts of oil in over five centuries.

Around 2200, 6 ORE oil stockpiles, with more than 500 million barrels of oil total, exploded. It is believed that competing oil companies commited this act. The Oil stockpiles were worth around 5-10 billion dollars combined. The military wing of ORE has now begun a bombing campaign of Enemy Oil Fields.

They climbed up on deck, and cut the throats of several men on night shift. One group of 5 stood guard at the top, while the others proceeded down into the holds. One unlucky sailor spotted the intruders, and was blown away by a suppresed round from an AKS74U. They got into were the oil is stored, and placed four timed satchel charges. Oil exports from Jeruselem will be reduced and additional supplies will be place into the dwindling government reserve and local supplies. The price of exported oil will be increased in line with market pricing and additional reserve wells will be utilised in the future.

OOC: I don't want the focus of the thread to shift to this, I'd rather stay on the Oil RP, so hopefully we can get this resolved quickly, as deploying a submarine could cause disruption to international shipping lanes and then the thread will be cluttered with threats of sanctions and military action.

We do not know why they sunk, we will be investigating them. We assume it was another terrorist attack. Please Doomingsland we need your help. The ships are unarmed. They are better suited for transport than for intelligence gathering and combat. We assure you that the ships will not fire on Doomingsland, nor will we attempt to gather any secret information using the engineering vessels. In fact, we ask that the Doomingsland Coast guard provide protection and aid us, because we fear that another terrorist attack might take place.

The engineering ships are there to cleanup any waste. Diving crews are searching for the wreck. Close to the island, you can see the ships dredging the bottom of the ocean.

The CONCORD Company, seeking saftey in this ever changing globe, has created the DED Corporation. 97% of CONCORD Armed forces will be in this Corporation, yet only 10% of oil will go to them. They will Produce 50 million barrels of oil a day, using the Vast oil reserves at the bottom of the Minmatar Straits and in the Jovian Sea. The Company Expects the prices being bet on CONCORD to be reduced sharply, but they insist that this was a nescesary step to protect Lightning Starian Interests in the event that CONCORD is sold to a foreign Country.
